  1. Almost 4 years on this site (it will be on July 19) and I just realized I've never had an avy. Maybe I should get one! But how?

Sounds good. Unfortunately I'm NOT tech-savvy. (Ex. I kept asking on social media "What is a podcast?" and everyone ignored me like I was joking. Eventually my sister explained it to me. Embarrassing but if I don't know then I don't know.) Hopefully I can figure this out... sometime... this... year. *sigh*

Hey Ice, don't worry about not being tech-savvy. Setting up an avatar on an online forum should be pretty easy. PooPooBlast already gave you some pretty good tips.

If you see any image online you'd like to use as an avatar, let us know and we can lend you a hand on that. :)

  2. Thanks for the follow! Or follow back I guess!

P.S. Awesome avy of Robo and Frog from Chrono Trigger! Such great memories. I actually beat the final stage of Lavos on my 16th Birthday back in January of 1996! What a moment etched forever in my mind!

Fitting for a man who has done this since toddler years on the Atari 2600!

    1. Ala-Arska

      Ala-Arska

      Thank you very much!

Yeah, Chrono Trigger was something special, it's pretty much a perfect game (that, and Final Fantasy VI, and

      A Link to the Past :) ).

I still remember when SNES came out, after NES I was just blown away how good games

like Super Mario World looked and felt like. And Chrono Trigger was one of the perfect games to play before the first Playstation

came along. My favourite moment was beating Lavos right at the beginning, at the festival, with max level character.

What a fun and weird experience that was

It's always nice to find out that I'm not the only "older" one here. Great to meet people who've been gaming since the dawn of time almost  And great to see that we've still got that drive to play new games and enjoy them as much as we did back in the day :awesome:

  3. I started Star Wars Episode I Racer and so many good memories come back. Don't worry, I won't "debug" this. Not going to stop others or preach on a "high horse" for using the debug trick mind you. I just wish to get nostalgic for a few days, that's all.

      Honor_Hand

Nice choice. I remember playing that game on my N64 when I was a kid. Think I rented it form somewhere or got it from a friend for the weekend. Never cleared it at the time, but it was a nice racing game form what I remember.

      Have fun!

  4. So I'm starting to "pick myself up" and figure out some things to play next.

I bought Mafia 2. The trophy glitch with The Enforcer is patched but it's still a sloppy remake. Why do I torture myself? I guess I had to see for myself!

Next, I'm doing Mission Mode in Fire Pro Wrestling World. This is every bit as difficult as advertised. I'll need tons of skill and some luck to S Rank... or even finish this. No wonder this Plat is an Ultra Rare! I'm not giving up!

I might also buy Star Wars Episode I Racer... money permitting of course. Ah, memories.

Doing some stuff on Switch when I need a break as well. A "balanced attack" if you will. (Fire Emblem Three Houses and Clubhouse Games to be exact).

    Until next time!

    1. PooPooBlast

      PooPooBlast

Mafia II is on the wishlist for me. However, I'm holding out until it gets properly patched. There should absolutely be no excuses for a game that's supposed to be an "enhanced" version.

And moreso I'm excited about the Mafia 1 remake. Hopefully that turns out well and most importantly, run smoothly

    2. Icebrand1270

      Icebrand1270

@PooPooBlast "Hastily made for profit" is the correct phrase I believe. We've seen it before and we'll see it again in the "remake" age. I never did Mafia 1 on PS2 so I might do it... provided it runs smoothly of course.

As for the game itself, I know I have no chance at Plat. I play on Easy and my shooting percentage is under 20%. Yep, wrong game!

I'll probably shift my focus to Star Wars Episode I Racer when I can buy it. Oh, sweet memories!

  5. I expected a slower "trophy production" this year but I didn't think it would be only 3 Plats in 6 Months. Between splitting time between Switch and PS4, needing to get a new PS4 in March (after database corruption in January) and a general mood shift all led to quite a disappointment to say the least.

I had hoped for some quality Plats in 2020 so I could "rehabilitate" a "trash" profile. Last year I earned 70 Plats... mostly extremely easy ones... as I matched my former ID's Plat count of 131. What a crazy year in more ways than one. I promised to do somewhat harder stuff but also try to reach 150 Plats by year's end. No easy challenge to be sure.

So far, I have 2 Plats that are relatively easy and 1 that truly stands out in RBI Baseball 20. (As I have mentioned many times RBI Baseball 20 is the 2nd time I'm "1st in The World to Plat" with 8 To Glory being the first back in 2018.) I've got a few ideas for my next Plat but nothing solid (as usual). Time will tell I suppose.

Well, I've said a lot. Thanks for reading.

  6. Platinum 134 is Super Soccer Blast! My first Plat in 2 months. Thanks to some bad glitches (read: stats resetting) this took 4 days to Plat when it should have been a 1-Day Plat. Shame as it seemed like a fun little arcade soccer game. No one cares about testing these modern games before release, do they?

Well, this was more trouble than this Plat was worth. And the stats resetting took the fun out of it. But in the end, I'm 26th in The World to Platinum this game... and the first American. Not sure it was worth the aggravation but I'm back with a Platinum Trophy.

Now to figure out what is next!

@Honor_Hand That is a great idea. The Switch does not feature a trophy or achievement system, which is perfect for "burnout" situations such as these. I have a reasonable collection of games as well (and the NES and Super NES Classics Suite via online membership). I still laugh at how my sister disguised it in a clothing box on Christmas Day! Good tactic for giving presents... and I don't mind clothing!

Congratulations on getting the plat ball rolling once more :D

  7. I know better than to force the issue but I'd like to get back into the "swing of things" with gaming. Not much else to do right now in NYC anyway (best to leave it at that).

Getting my mind to work is my primary struggle. This will not be easy I can assure you.

  8. Well everyone, the wake for my deceased father was yesterday afternoon. What a sad week. He would have been 65 this Monday. He missed his 65th birthday by just a week.

We were able to have a small wake, since his death wasn't from COVID but from other health issues that sadly went under the radar.

I didn't note this originally but he was the one who encouraged me to seek out my dream of becoming a wrestling announcer. Though the dream had some twists and turns, he's the one who said I should start. He also was an avid player of WarFrame on Steam after he retired from work and would play alongside my youngest brother (my father and stepmother's son). Fitting as he taught me the ways of the Atari 2600 Joystick as a toddler.

What an incredibly unexpected loss. One day someone thinks about the good and bad about becoming a senior citizen in America, then it's taken away just like that. So sad.

@eigen-space @DamagingRob Thank you. Family isn't always photos and smiles but he was a good man and will be missed by many. He taught me much but no one can teach another how to say goodbye.

  9. I may not be on here as often as normal for a few days (not that I'm that frequent a poster).

Back on Monday my father died suddenly from unexpected health issues (not from COVID) that I won't get into here.

He was the one who taught me to play Freeway on the Atari 2600 as a toddler and here I still game at age 40.

He was 64 and missed his 65th birthday by just a week. It's a nightmare I can never wake up from.

  10. Sorry to repost this but I had to clarify. I'm having trouble with "Recent Activities" on my PS4, not here on this site. Didn't mean to scare anyone, sorry. Could be my Internet or the fact that it's Streets of Rage 4. Just wondering if anyone else has a similar problem.

    1. KingGuy420

      KingGuy420

That stuff has been super hit or miss lately. Probably the extra server strain from everyone being at home.

    2. Icebrand1270

      Icebrand1270

@KingGuy420 I see. That makes sense now. Probably no way to correct it either. Rats!

    3. NERVergoproxy

      NERVergoproxy

It's PSN. I was playing offline for reasons a few days ago and it still register and show people the trophies I've earned/activity during my "offline" time. 😅 Guess I wasn't stealth enough.

  11. After some consideration I decided to purchase the following games from my "wishlist":

    Streets of Rage 4

    The Complex

    The Shapeshifting Detective

I'm sure I'll enjoy all of them to some extent. I'm sure I'll REALLY enjoy Streets of Rage 4 given my current mood. Whenever I can do more games I will buy River City Girls and Double Dragon and Kunio-kun Retro Brawler Bundle to keep with the brawler theme. And I Am Setsuna in the distant future when I have the cash... and focus needed for a traditional JRPG.

      Hope you enjoy.

    2. Icebrand1270

      Icebrand1270

@MidnightDragon I'll do Streets of Rage 4 first. For those who are unaware, I have the Plat for Late Shift. I bought The Bunker and The Infectious Madness of Doctor Dekker some time back as well but I've done nothing with them so far. I really need to find my unplayed backlog... and actually play it!

    3. Honor_Hand

      Honor_Hand

Oh, you got the games already... I was catching up on my updates and didn't saw this one until now, lol. xD

Good choice. Definitely do try River City GIrls later on. Looks awesome.

      Have fun there. :D

  12. Was looking if anyone could recommend a digital game in the 40 dollar and under (USD of course) range. I have some spare money left from... well, being stuck in the "hot zone" of New York City... and best to leave it at that. Don't know if I'll do it now or wait for a month or two when my mood improves (tired of social media arguments, you understand). Still, here's my "wishlist" if you will:

    Streets of Rage 4.

    The Shapeshifting Detective.

    The Complex (yep, I know, I shouldn't)

    River City Girls

    Big Pharma

    I Am Setsuna

Double Dragon and Kunio-kun Retro Brawler Bundle

Yu-Gi-Oh Legacy of The Duelist Link Evolution (PS4)

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated as always. Trophy difficulty is only semi-important as my hunting of trophies has been terrible this month to begin with.

I can understand that.  I had a somewhat... unsettling experience with Final Fantasy 7 that made it very... difficult to finish.  I did eventually, but it was a bit of a roller coaster.

To be fair, I probably didn't give the game a chance.  It may have a good story, so take that with a grain of salt.

Sometimes everyone gets an urge to punch something xD

    3. Honor_Hand

      Honor_Hand

Sadly, I haven't played any of those games as to have a more complete opinion on them.

HOWEVER, out of those in that list, I'd go for River City GIrls. I really, really liked what the developers (WayForward) did with Double Dragon Neon back in 2012. I know a lot of people weren't particularly fond of that reboot, but I thought it was awesome. Nice music and very addictive to play. River City Girls appears to be much of the same, but with a cooler art style.

Streets of Rage 4 looks like a good option, but I haven't really read or watched anything about that one, so I'm only basing my opinion there on the previous titles in the franchise.

    4. Icebrand1270

      Icebrand1270

@Honor_Hand I did Double Dragon Neon on my old ID when it came out. If I ever hear the music for Stage 2 again, I just might start singing, dancing and making a complete fool of myself! And I won't want to stop either!

  13. I should update my About Me again... for a multitude of reasons.

I've hit "First in The World" status twice now (8 To Glory, RBI Baseball 20). I only have 8 To Glory listed.

I now have more Platinum Trophies as OohYeah127 than I did as Icebrand1270. I need to list that.

Sadly, I have to alter my "ECPW alumni in the big leagues" list as Luke Gallows was among the many roster releases right after Wrestlemania. (I'm sure he'll be all right career-wise but don't ask if I have inside info. I couldn't tell you if I knew and he already "made it" by the time I started in 2008.) At least there is one ECPW alumni in the "bigs" right now in Sonny Kiss of AEW. (Not that I watch much of WWE or AEW or Impact or the other big leagues... if at all. My shows and health matter more to me personally. Not a popular viewpoint but there it is.)

I'm sure there's other things to alter... I'll just have to think about them. All in good time, yes?

    1. eigen-space

      eigen-space

I see you have 127 in both your usernames. Care to share its significance?

    2. Icebrand1270

      Icebrand1270

@eigen-space Certainly! January 27 is my birthday! But I devised my original username back in 2008 when I wasn't so outgoing and much more shy. Therefore I put a zero on the end as a sort of disguise. Thanks to my work with East Coast Pro Wrestling, shy is not an option.

As for the rest, Icebrand is a popular name for Ice Swords in Final Fantasy games (paying homage to old-school RPGs there). OohYeah is a reference to WWE Hall of Fame wrestler Macho Man Randy Savage. I lost the "Icebrand1270" ID in September of 2017 due to a bank card hack.

    3. eigen-space

      eigen-space

I thought it might be birthday related. Nice origin story for the usernames :D

  14. [GreedFall] I finished my first playthrough and I have 43 of 59 trophies... including the trophy for the best ending! I have absolutely no idea how I got A Better World instead of A Big Step Towards Peace but I won't complain!

Through strategically placed saves I might get a few more trophies quickly... maybe. We'll see.

A Better World is also Gold Trophy 1000! CRAZY!

    1. Glowbugg

      Glowbugg

How many playthrus does it take to plat?

    2. Icebrand1270

      Icebrand1270

@Glowbugg That depends largely on 2 things: clever use of save points and whether you are willing to do Extreme difficulty right away. The bare minimum is 2 due to having 4 romance options. Vasco only likes women, Aphra only likes men and Kurt and Siora like both genders. Each one has their own trophy. (Not unlike Dragon Age Origins, come to think of it.) There are 5 different endings as well but clever use of save points can cut down on time... somewhat. I'll need more than 2 since I missed a potential romance with Kurt and I didn't play on Extreme difficulty right away. Plus some other choice-based trophies that keep you on your toes.

  15. [GreedFall] I have 29 trophies so far but I feel like a buffoon playing chess... if that makes any sense.

    SPOILERS INCOMING!

So far, I screwed up a potential romance with Kurt by only partially succeeding his second of three companion quests. At least he remained loyal for this run.

I caused enough disfavor with the Coin Guard that I never gained Friendly status with them, despite completing their questline. OUCH!

I gained Friendly status with the Theleme... and lost it. Furthermore, the Mother Cardinal did NOT reveal the stone tables to her people. DAMN IT!

So I'm ineligible for the best ending. The other 4 endings are still in play, of course. But this hurts.

At least I enjoy this game... but I HATE making mistakes like this! I suppose the phrase "Better luck next time" is appropriate, yes?

  16. [GreedFall] 27 Trophies earned so far. Keep in mind that one of the 5 endings is (likely) locked out due to screwing up some side quests. Better luck next time I guess. And I'm playing on Easy difficulty since I die every now and then, so a run on Extreme difficulty will be saved for when everything else is done. Whenever that is.

I still have a LOT of the plot and some companion quests to do. I do love side quests in Action RPG games, go figure!

Pity I went in blind and didn't know much about what mistakes to avoid (ex. romances). Then again, if I had paid attention I would have realized you were looking to cure a plague. I honestly thought you were playing as a pirate! Don't ask me why... wishful thinking maybe?

  17. [Greedfall] Starting this game and my first thought is: OH did I ever guess the plot incorrectly! I thought there would be pirates, not a plague! OOPS!

At least there are many ways to fight and it does look nice (not that I care much for that sort of thing). I did die 3 times against the "prologue boss" on Easy difficulty so maybe this isn't for me. I'll still do it as I don't mind "going the long way" to a Plat (Read: Do everything before Extreme difficulty), provided I enjoy it of course.

Now to figure out how to avoid needless dying... remember to dodge!

  18. I've seen people in my personal life talk about days blurring into one another. I'm inclined to agree. I check the day once a day and that's it. With the world gone mad, I only know what day it is due to essential workers among friends and family. Not good.

    1. PooPooBlast

      PooPooBlast

Agreed. I'm still trying to not fall into that trap. Once those days passes you by, you end up feeling like shit. At least for me anyway

    2. Honor_Hand

      Honor_Hand

Yeah... I've been feeling that for the last 6-8 years now. I don't remember when it started, mind you. :hmm: Nowdays, with the coronacrisis, I can't help but feel like everyday feels like fucking Sunday. No kidding. 😅 But yeah, I know what you mean.

  19. Platinum 133 is Story of a Gladiator! Completed in just over 6 hours, this was a fun time and tougher than its 71% Platinum "success rate" would suggest. At least it was to me because I was terrible at blocking but okay at rolling. The trophy glitch with Favor of the Gods has been fixed for some time now.

I do not know whether I will go for the DLC trophies (it is free DLC that was added automatically with version 1.02). I don't mind the challenge but can I handle the stress of 15 waves of combat? I honestly don't know.

Anyway, if I don't do that, what is next? I have GreedFall ready to start and The Outer Worlds is 3 trophies away (2 difficulty trophies and and a grinding trophy). I also got GRID (PS4) from GameFly (still shipping amidst this madness) but I haven't been able to get around to patch it due to Internet issues. Possibilties, yes?

  20. Anybody here played GreedFall? I see it's 50% off (24.99) on the Spring Sale right now. I still have some money left over this month to spend on games, seeing how I'm stuck indoors in NYC and all. (And let's leave it at that. My stir-crazy self is healthy but tired to say the least.) Saw a trailer but we all know how misleading those are. Keep in mind that graphics are uninmportant to me and I know the game has multiple endings and difficulty levels. But I need to know more before I commit to it (story, control schematic etc). Also, a long game doesn't sound bad at all. Something to get lost in, to be sure. Trophy list is also only semi-important as I've been away from that style of gaming for a bit.

    1. Icebrand1270

      Icebrand1270

UPDATE: Bought Greedfall and Story of a Gladiator. Will probably do Story of a Gladiator first since it seems to be shorter.

  21. I'm going to reconstruct a trophy checklist I haven't done since 2017. As you might imagine I put down "Results Coming... Eventually!"

My problem is simple: I have good stuff (Fallout 4), obscure stuff (Ashes Cricket, Floor Kids), trashy stuff (Ratalaika, Lightwood etc) and some very interesting milestones among my 132 Platinums (1st In The World to Platinum 8 To Glory and RBI Baseball 20). Not sure who is going to be interested in such a hodgepodge of stuff. I know a traditional chronological order is completely out of the question, to be sure.

Suggestions are greatly appreciated. Perhaps I will go look at some checklists and see what the best and brightest have designed for themselves!

  22. Note to Self: When playing a game called Grand Theft Auto III... poor controls notwithstanding... get better at driving... or play something else. Just a thought.

I guess I could always grind my 2000 kills trophy by driving like a maniac, if you catch my meaning!

      Dr_Mayus

Oh I don't care about graphics either but controls and mechanics have to make sense.

Like I am playing Wild Arms 3 right now and to find new dungeons and towns you have to know where they are and just keep pressing :square: until you find them. So you could be out of the hit box by 1 step press :square: and miss it but not realize you have to step one step to the left.

Like think about that in real life. Imagine being in front of Walmart and knowing it should be there but until you do a certain dance it doesn't show up...makes no sense :(

    3. Honor_Hand

      Honor_Hand

I remember it took me a while to get used to how the game works, and yes, GTA III has some ass-backward camera and movement control scheme. Certainly, not the scheme we are used to today's games. But don't worry, it gets much better in the next games in the series.

    4. Icebrand1270

      Icebrand1270

@Dr_Mayus Reminds me of searching for items in the first Dragon Quest game (1990). Erdrick's Token sound familiar? That and I wouldn't want to dance in front of any retail store... I'd like to not cause a scene!

Anyway, the PS2 era was known for bad camera angles and bad controls thinly disguised as "innovative" or "experimental". (Considering Heavy Rain pulled the same garbage in the PS3 era in 2010, I guess some things never change.) Just a thought.

  23. Now that my Trophy Cabinet is sorted out (The 8 games I'm in the "1st 50 To Plat" List) I bought Bully off the Spring Sale. I had it when I was still Icebrand1270 way back when and it was a Platinum in those days.

I'm thinking whether I should buy the Grand Theft Auto PS2 Trilogy on PS4 since it is also part of the Spring Sale. Never did them before so I'm "Going in Blind" so to speak. I know their reputation of course. And bear in mind that graphics, both good and bad, are meaningless to me, so I couldn't care less about the "dated" look. Any thoughts?

@PooPooBlast Probably in over my head, more like. Not what I normally do but I'm in the mood for something different. I know the trophies are a rough time but I'm tired of the "trash" Plats. Well, feast or famine... as the saying goes!

    3. DamagingRob

      DamagingRob

@PooPooBlast I don't know who doesn't agree, but I sure do. Lol. I only replayed my favorite one, Vice City, so far. The controls are awful now. Not to mention the car physics. Those stupid ambulances flip over if someone blows on them. :P I'm very unsure if I'll play the other two..

    4. Honor_Hand

      Honor_Hand

I went through the whole GTA trilogy recently and I enjoyed my time on them. They do have a dated-feeling to their gameplay, not so much as to how they look in terms of graphics. Even so, I still had fun with them. There were a number of issues with the emulation on those games, so be sure to set things accordingly on your TV to offset that.

Out of the three, I enjoyed Vice City the most, mostly due to the 80s Miami vibe it has going on. It has the most annoying trophy out of the bunch, Take the Cannoli, which will probably make you go insane grinding helicopter explosions, but yeah, all in all good, enjoyable games even to this day.

  24. Looking to update my "Trophy Cabinet" from the ground up. Not entirely sure what happened but it went missing one day and I only noticed after my RBI baseball 20 Platinum. No biggie. But what do I put in there?

2 were obvious choices: 8 To Glory and RBI Baseball 20. I'm 1st in the World to Platinum both so of course they're in there. But what else?

    1. PooPooBlast

      PooPooBlast

That should be a personal decision for you to make!

Some people like to put UR plats to show their achievements while others like to put in games they really enjoyed. I fall in the latter category. It's up to you :)

    2. Icebrand1270

@PooPooBlast I'm leaning towards games I'm in the "1st 50 To Plat" Lists for. I have quite a few of those. As you said, the final decision is mine.

Awesome! Just saw your recent status update. Pretty decent collection.

  25. [The Outer Worlds] Enjoying this so much that I decided to buy this off the Spring Sale today and send the GameFly copy back to Pittsburgh (which is the closest warehouse from New York City if you didn't know). I also have 29 Trophies now and I haven't even finished my first playthrough! Not bad for a guy who had a rough start!

Nice! Can you be the jack of all trades in this game are you limited by level caps and skill points such that you have to choose carefully?

In this game or are you*

@PooPooBlast There is a Level Cap of 30 and you get 10 Skill points per level. Also a Perk point every 2 levels. Plus you choose starting attributes on a scale ranging from Below Average to Very High (1-5 essentially) that cannot be improved later.
