  1. Scarlet Nexus - It's so weird to me that most characters in this game have super Japanese first names then have Western last names. Kasane Randall, Shiden Ritter, Arashi Spring, Fubuki Spring, Kyoka Eden, Kagero Donne, Tsugumi Nazar, Wataru Frazer, Haruka Frazer... just weird.

I'm not actually a huge fan of Kasane. She's ok, but she's way too Naomi-focused.

Shes way better than Yuito. He's just typical whiny jrpg typecast imo.

I haven't played Yuito yet, but from what I've seen of him, I have no objections to his character yet apart from him being a grown ass man obsessed with a cartoon mascot.

  2. Making a game purposely not 100%-able for thematic purposes....

I can imagine how well this went over, lol.  I'm sure some people were over the top in their criticism.  But, still, if you're trying to sell something like this you really should have a better idea of what your audience/market is like.  If you're going to kick the hornets' nest this obviously, you should at least know you're doing it!

I think it's hilarious and to align completely with the theme, people who feel entitled to it can just use cheats to get it. It so perfectly fits with the theme of the game that I really appreciate it.

The people who wouldn't have appreciated the theme of the game would have rejected the concepts in the game anyway so them skipping because they can't get unlock the final achievement is no loss at all.

      Slava

I see this article shares the same idea as the game. The title promises "A great story", but in the end it's just a little "I'm 13 and this is deep" touch that can be described in one sentence.

  3. Scarlet Nexus - This plot is.... all over the place.... but in a good way?

  4. Scarlet Nexus - Haven't been playing very long, but the game looks really nice

  5. Platinum #157 - Chicory (PS4) 25.58% Rarity Difficulty - 3/10, Time Spent - ~23 Hours, Enjoyment 6.5/10 Chicory is an interesting little game for sure. Don't go into this game thinking it'll be all happiness and colorful and rainbows, because it's not. It deals with a lot of deep topics like depression and imposter syndrome. Definitely was not expecting that from a game that, from the trailers and art style, seems so joyful. The name of this game is puzzles and collectibles. Nearly all of the trophies have to do with collectibles, with a few of the random trophies being about delivery or fetch quests. There are a ton of collectibles in this game, but fortunately someone made a really neat interactive collectibles map (which I linked in the forums). Even though the map shows you exactly where everything is, getting to it might be a bit of a problem; nearly everything has some sort of platforming puzzle you need to solve, and early collectibles might be locked behind a skill that you'll unlock later. So it is a little bit difficult in that regard. One interesting thing about the game is that they really wanted to make it a good experience for the player. Don't like fighting bosses? You can make yourself invincible. Some of the timing on the puzzles giving you problems? You can slow down the movements of the moving pieces in a puzzle. Don't like "wet" sounds? You can turn them off (it's a painting game so of course there's going to be wet sounds associated with the painting). Overall, pretty decent game, but a little boring. And the boss fights were total garbage.
  6. Platinum #157 - Chicory

Pretty easy platinum but SO MANY COLLECTIBLES. Fortunately someone made a really nice collectibles map (which I linked in the forum topic asking about a collectibles guide).

  7. This wesbite was very useful for collectibles. The only thing it doesn't have are the brush styles, but you can find those post-game by using the telephone (dad will tell you exactly where all the brush styles are). https://jdavisbro.github.io/chicory/#
  8. Chicory - So. Many. Collectibles.
Some of them are fun to do at least... solving puzzles in order to get them. But there's just soooo many.

  9. Dodged a bullet... started playing The Caligula Effect and after 5 hours I still had no clue what I was doing because the battle was super convoluted. Wasn't having fun but, unfortunately, the game pops several trophies before you even progress through your first couple battles. Fortunately, though, I didn't sync the trophies so I was free to format my Vita to pretend like the game never existed on my system. Woo hoo!

      eigen-space

@XchocomanX, I thought so. I had no idea what I was doing. They gave like 30 tips during the first battle but it didn't make any sense. It's also too much for the small Vita screen imo.

  10. 100% #200 - Mom Hid My Game - It was OK for being a short 1-2 hour game... just some interesting "logic" puzzles

    1. eigen-space

      eigen-space

@ThatMuttGuy, it was enjoyable, except for the bars minigame. I liked how some of the puzzles intentionally tricked you... like some of them had very obvious solutions while others had "obvious" solutions that led to a game over... some of them were kind of funny too.

  11. Platinum #156 - Astro's Playroom 60.32% Rarity Difficulty - 2/10, Time Spent - ~6 Hours, Enjoyment 8/10 Fun game for Sony to show off the new Dual Sense controller. You got to use everything... the touchpad, the adaptive triggers, the microphone, the motionsensing. Pretty great little game. I think my favorite thing to use was the adaptive triggers and can't wait for more games to utilize the technology. As far as the game goes, the trophy list is pretty straightforward... some (very minimal) grindy trophies regarding money, some (very enjoyable) collectibles, trophies for completing stages, and some for completing misc tasks. Very comprehensive trophy list, and nothing is too hard. Oh, except for maybe the speedrun trophy that's part of the DLC, but even that wasn't terrible (I was under the speedrun time by 15 seconds with very minimal retries).
  12. Platinum #156 - Astro's Playroom

Probably the most fun I've had with a game in quite some time, which is awesome considering the game was free! Also, I don't know why I was so worried about the speedruns.... got it with minimal retries on levels and actually have the 2nd fastest time among my friends (though there's only five of us who have played so...).

  13. Astro's Playroom - Having a good time with this game so far. I think I'm psyching myself out about the speedrun part, though. I mean, if 51% of people can do it, then so can I. But I hate speedruns.

    1. Cleggworth

      Cleggworth

Videos help. I felt the same way, hate speedruns and couldn't possibly see a way to shave any time off. Then you put a video on and are able to pull off one of their skips and cut off 10 seconds. Good luck I'm sure you'll be fine 👍

    2. DaisyVilla102

      DaisyVilla102

If I can do it, I have no doubts you can do it! 💪 I managed it even without videos--I played them all and then began replaying whichever took me the longest time, eventually whittling them down enough to get the <7 mins overall time.

    3. eigen-space

      eigen-space

@DaisyVilla102, I basically calculated that you can get a maximum of 52.5 seconds on each level to reach 7 minutes exactly. So I kept retrying levels until I got under that time, most of the time beating it by several seconds. I only had one level that was over that time limit (stupid monkey suit level) and clocked in around 6:45.

  14. I decided to spend money today... all are PS4 or PS5 (with preference to PS5 if available on both)

  16. Platinum #155 - Death End re;Quest (NA) 20.86% Rarity Difficulty - 3/10, Time Spent - ~35 Hours, Enjoyment 5/10 Don't really have a lot to say about this game. The character models were pretty good, and the story was alright once you got about halfway through the game. However, the beginning seriously dragged and was too much like a visual novel with intermittent RPG elements for my tastes. The did try to do some interesting things with the battles, like being able to switch gaming genres mid-battle or summon defeated bosses to fight on your side. But it just felt a little bland overall.
  17. Platinum #155 - Death End re;Quest

It was OK. I had heard it was an amazing and innovative game, but it didn't really live up to the hype. Not a bad way to spend ~35 hours, but nothing really standout about it.

  18. I have one game on my profile that is impossible to 100%, so a 100% profile is out of the cards for me. It bums me out that this is the case because I wanted it to be a choice not to have a 100% profile-- and always have the choice to try to 100% the profile-- rather than something beyond my control. But here we are... Along with the 1 impossible game, there are also a handful of games that I don't intend to go back to. I think that my realistic ceiling is probably about 98.5-99% once I go back to the various titles that I still want to clean up.
  19. Death End Re;Quest - Just finished The Pain Area, which is basically a battle gauntlet of 5 floors with 15 battles a piece. It took a total of 3 hours to go through, but now the hardest trophy in the game is complete. Now it's basically just story-related trophies from here on out.

    1. Jens

      Jens

How many hours are you looking at until you got the platinum? And I phrase it this way because it sounds like a little bit of just getting through it still, even after the game getting a bit better?

    2. eigen-space

      eigen-space

I think probably about 10 hours left. The second playthrough should be very quick with text skip.

  20. Looks like that was a mistake on our part when taking down games. Unfortunately it's whatever is marked as the base game trophies which need to have at least one earned in the time frame. Sorry about that.
  21. Death End Re;Quest - Story finally started picking up from what I played over the weekend. This game feels a little more like a visual novel with RPG battle interludes than a true JRPG... was hoping for something a little more balanced than this, but I guess it's OK. Looking forward to seeing what the ending is like, though... the story has got me interested in how it resolves... and then during the second playthrough I can just skip all the text and be done with it much quicker lol

      Priere

I think the novel sections are where the game shines because the overall gameplay LOOKS like it would be reptitive but i actually liked unlocking new skills too. The alt endings are pretty good as well, they're not two sentences about what happened to the party off screen and slapping "ending" on it.

Hope you have a great time!

@YaoiGod, it just took a longgggg time for it to get interesting for me. Probably chapter 7ish is when it really started to heat up (or whenever it was that the "NPCs" started to glitch out). Now I'm actually interested in the event flags and especially the trips to the Real World.

Glad to hear that the endings are satisfying. Maybe it won't feel so annoying having to redo the final battle half a dozen times for each character ending!

    3. Priere

      Priere

Fair point. I was actually refereing to the Death Endings, but yeah heroine endings are okay too i guess lol. They are pretty fun to see but most of them are way too short, except for one being the longest.

  22. Ever since you posted about pancakes, I've been thinking about making them. So today I went to the grocery store and bought some mix and then realized I have no idea how to actually cook them on my stove top so I burned the shit out of them. Still ate them though, but my husband wouldn't and wouldn't let me feed them to my child haha.

Pro stove tip: the only thing that should ever get a temperature higher than medium is boiling liquids. Liquids can absorb a lot more heat and can take it. Your pans and foods will thank you for not abusing them by cooking higher than medium.

Made pancakes again today and only burned one of them. Improvement! Putting it on low-medium heat worked well, though I don't like my stove because it's gas so the heat is uneven. I've ordered myself an electric griddle because I've rediscovered that I really like pancakes. All thanks to you 😜

  23. Just turned in my last assignment for my Neural Networks class. I didn't program a single neural network during this entire course...

    1. enaysoft

      enaysoft

It's very common unfortunately in almost any school. Educational establishments teach you bare bones or nothing at all.

You sadly need to be doing extra stuff in your spare time to compensate/be ahead of everyone else.

    2. eigen-space

      eigen-space

@enaysoft, this is my second time in grad school... had to stop going the first time due to some circumstances, but that program was leaps and bounds better than what I'm in right now (they were different degree programs... the first was was for statistics, the current one is data science).

      Jens

I wish I would be more surprised about your negative experiences with it at this point, but I'm really not...

But hey, at least it's one more thing we have in common. You and I programmed the same amount of neural networks, bestie!

  25. Platinum #153 and 154 - Atelier Ryza 2 (PS5 and Ps4) 29.04% / 40.65% Rarity Difficulty - 3/10, Time Spent - ~40 Hours / 10 Hours, Enjoyment 5/10 Atelier Ryza 2 is the second adventure you go on with Ryza and marks the first time Atelier games are available on the PS5. Note that you get a free upgrade to PS5 if you ordered the PS4 version, which is exactly what I did. In this game Ryza and company go on adventures in mysterious ruins with their mysterious fluffy friend Fi. While they try to unlock the mysteries of the ruins, it becomes clear that something sinister happened to drag this old civilization into ruins. I did not like this game very much. It seems like they tried to make everything too complicated in this game. The alchemy system-- which is one of the reasons I enjoy Atelier games so much-- is a convoluted mess, and they did away with some of the interesting features that made alchemy fun, like combining two traits in order to get a more powerful trait. Equipment in this game is a disaster... it seriously took an hour just to alchemize good weapons for my 3 main characters, and that was with using tricks like duplicating ingots so that I didn't have to spend even more time crafting them. I didn't even bother outfitting all 7 characters in the game because it would have been a huge timesink to do so... which is a shame because I never got to switch up my party to find what my favorite party was (though playing the game on Normal difficulty doesn't really necessitate using a specific party). The battle system was another thing that they overcomplicated. You can have three characters on the battlefield and it is somewhat turn-based. Basically there is a meter which shows the time until your turn as well as the enemies' turns and then you have your turn, which is done in real time so you don't really have time to think about what you're going to do (fortunately it does pause the battle if you're deciding on using an item). But you only control one of your three characters at any time... you can switch to the other characters, but there really isn't enough time between turns to be able to "use" them all effectively. You also can't set up schemas for them to follow, like prioritizing healing or something like that... the most you can do is say that they have free reign to use "action points" which allow them to use skills rather than just their base attack. It's a convoluted mess that you eventually get used to. I also didn't like how many character events there were. There are six main characters to keep track of events for as well as four NPCs that you have to do events for that are tied to trophies. Then there are 5 additional NPCs that have character events which are indirectly tied to another trophy. Each of these characters has about 10 character events a piece. And so many of the character events are inconsequential and don't really do much for character development. I miss the days of Atelier Rorona where I actually cared about what went on in the character events... and where there were fewer of them per character. I definitely do think there's a difference between the PS5 and PS4 versions as well, especially with framerate. Actually, that was really the only thing that I noticed. I don't think someone who plays just the PS4 version will have a bad time or anything like that, but if you are going from one version to the other you will notice a difference. The one upside to this game was the soundtrack. I found myself humming along with some of the tunes. Also, the monster design was good... they had so many cute monsters!
