Good morning. And in case I don't see you, good afternoon, good evening and good night!

  2. waiting on PostNL (who the fuck are they?) to deliver my copy of F.I.S.T. from Play-Asia. Says arrived in my country, but that doesn't mean jack shit in the grand scheme of things considering people are still paranoid about some stupid super virus that "kills".

PostNL is the former royal Dutch mail service, now privatised. I would trust them to deliver my covid cure any time.

  3. I knew eventually my thread for GTA V would be deleted because of an uproar regarding how controversial it was. Because of the imminent server shutdown for GTA V on PS3 I believe the thread blew up for that reason and keeping it on the website would have ended up in months of drama regarding the game's modded lobby situation, at least all of that will come to an end once and for all on December 16th. Then it'll be exciting to see it start happening to the game on PS4 ;)

More than anything, it will finally put the CRT out of their misery concerning this shit show of a trophy. The situation around RLTW and PSNP has always been vague at best. Even mods themselves can not seem to agree on a definitive stance. Deleting the topic sure fits into that. But that's all I ever see mods do here anyway: closing or deleting topics (one of the many reasons trolling is so effective here.)

  4. Platinum #148 - WRC 5 (Vita)

    L4673ac.png1L0dcd00.png

Danger!!! Hard brake. Trashy rally game ahead-- Whoa, that was dodgy

Perhaps, just perhaps, changing developers and expecting a new team to churn out a new rally game in a short time frame and with a limited budget on 3 very different devices is a recipe for disaster, wouldn't you agree? I often think that messing up a racing game takes some sort of special effort. After all, there's not much you can do to make the very act of racing boring. Turns out, there are ways for it to go very, VERy wrong. Kylotonn Games was put in charge of the WRC franchise in 2015, in exchange for the already-established Milestone folks. I had the chance to experience their very first game in the franchise on the PS4 a couple of months back and I thought it was a somewhat passable experience. Very barebones, somewhat mediocre, but still solid enough to be played all the way to the end. The Vita version on the other hand... Oh, man, it's anything but! Hands down, the worst rally game I've ever played with almost no redeeming factors.

    Oha4Lgs.png

Ah, Germany. Known around this time of the year by their popping vineyards and uber frame drops

The very first thing that stands down is the horrendous visual presentation of the game. We know the Vita isn't exactly a powerhouse, but come on, that's not an excuse to deliver N64-level graphics on the handheld. Vehicles with limited definition, weird reflections, extremely drab environments with nauseating textures all around, lots of warped textures and jaggy visuals all over the place. The game just looks bad. The only good thing it has going for is that it does have a good draw distance, but at what cost? There are huge pop-in issues with objects literally popping into existence as you drive through, and it all comes spiced up with a very choppy frame rate. Germany, Finland & Italy in particular have frame rates that would often dip into the low 20s, high 10s. You would think that the gameplay would somehow make up for it, but no, no it doesn't. Even though the driving model is similar to the one used in the PS4 version, the simplified nature of the courses for this version of the game coupled with the Vita's limited degree of control makes for a dreadful driving experience. Driving the earlier vehicle classes feels painfully slow and boring. Once you get up to the higher vehicle classes, things get slightly better, but you'll still find yourself fighting with the awful driving mechanics and design.

I was actually surprised the game didn't crash that much on me after reading the many comments online. It did crash like 3 times on my very first rally, but after that, it never did it again. Must've kicked itself into overdrive or something... Many of the in-game systems don't even work. This is something that goes on par with the PS4 version, but here on the Vita, everything s exacerbated and made x10 times worse. The damage and wear system features random tire degradation that makes no sense, cars that love to "self-destruct" for some reason as you drive them (effectively making stages like Sweden near-impossible to traverse), glitchy bumpers that love to go flying off your car when you spawn on the map, et cetera. Even the sound and directions spewed out from your co-driver sound dodgy, poorly implemented, and are accompanied by some annoying audio issues. Sound effects are passable on some cars, downright poor on others. Why some cars sound like farts when shifting gears I have no idea... You can check @pinkrobot_pb's post on this thread if you want to know more about the issues with this game.

    IZoQOUc.png

Where do I go? I can't see shit with all these shining roads O_o

Trophy-wise, thankfully, there's nothing particularly hard in this game. It is a bit time-consuming (around 20 hours to complete, maybe?) as you need to become champion on all categories of the WRC. A good thing is that, as soon as you find yourself ahead in the championship, you can pretty much skip rallies. Which is something I did to avoid playing as much of this trainwreck as I could. After you're done with that, you'll need to complete all stages in all rallies in Quick Stage mode, which again, it's not hard but just time-consuming. There are no online trophies or online modes to speak of (even though the game's system voice believes there is one...) and there's only one multiplayer trophy that can be done locally with one Vita. To avoid frustration with this game, I set my realism to high but completely disabled the damage and wear system. I also set the difficulty to easy. For some reason, Rally France has some weird times that you'll struggle with even on the easiest difficulty. All the others were super easy to beat, but this one seems to be bugged as, for some reason, the AI would always post some impossibly fast times. Just keep trying, drive good, and hope you get lucky with the fake and random AI until you can win this one.

    8Spgw7z.png

I mean, come on, don't tell me the game doesn't look hideous >.<

TL; DR: WRC 5 is a hard recommendation as a rally game. Kylotonn Games' later offerings have been much better. If there's one version of WRC 5 that you have to play out, stick to the PS4 version. If you happen to see the Vita version, throw holy water at it and run like hell away from it. Don't even think about trying it out unless you're looking to have a miserable time. 8D

Congrats on the plat and thanks for mentioning my post on this game.

@AiphaLoveleaf WRC 4 on Vita was excellent. I have not played WRC 3 on it, but I expect it to be good as well.

WRC 4 on PS3 was good too, fun to drive and decent graphics.

On PS4 I recommend to skip WRC 5 but starting from WRC 6 the games did get a lot better. The driving is more direct (which takes some getting used to after the earlier games) but the games look decent and drive alright too. The trophy lists did become way too grindy unfortunately.

  6. In the past we'd look at GOTY editions for PS3 games as a cash grab and we'd say the same about remasters, but with the very real possibility of the store shutting down on the platform they are a blessing. Although Sony cancelled the store shutdown this time around, in the near future they'll probably announce and go through with the store shutdown and in that case the GOTY edition that has all DLC on disc for some games will be the only way to get that DLC and the same will apply to some remasters for old games, being able to play the game on a more recent console when it's no-longer available on the older consoles.

    1. pinkrobot_pb

      pinkrobot_pb

In most cases I consider both DLC and GOTY versions (and remasters) pretty easy money for the studio. I remember a time when DLC only became an option if a game had sold well. Those times are long gone unfortunately. I will be buying some digital PS3 DLC in the upcoming weeks/months, but consider myself lucky to not feel the urge to 100% everything. I do not want to be condoining those practices, even if they are already pretty much widely accepted by gamers nowadays.

  7. Sometimes a nice tedious grind is just what you need. Especially if you just found a new podcast or bought a new audiobok.

    1. pinkrobot_pb

      pinkrobot_pb

I agree. I do not really need a big challenge after a long working day. Grinding for rare trophies while listening to some of my favourite YouTube channels is perfect for me.

  8. When you get a friend request and accept it, only to find out they see your SMB plat and want you to SharePlay and get it for them too 😂 That is definitely one that needs to be earned, I don't know how people can feel satisfied letting someone else do all the hard work for them... Oh the audacity!!

My advice would be to just enjoy what you are doing yourself. If this is what makes you happy and you are not in it for the YouTube fame and money, then it should not matter that you only have 100 views after 1 year.

  10. I tell ya, its a pretty terrible place to be, being so close to a platinum and yet losing all sense of fun even attempting the last handful of trophies.

To be fair, "as soon as possible" will not matter anymore once you invent time travel.

  12. I'm starting to find that I enjoy games much more when I play them in spurts, rather than binge playing them like I did more so a couple years ago.

I don't see how people can play for 8 - 10 hours every single day and not feel a bit miserable. I used to do that back when I was younger in the mid - late 2000s and that ended up killing me. Now that I'm older I just can't do that anymore, I need to take periodic breaks between gaming sessions.

There's a number of Twitch.tv and YouTube gaming live streamers that I've followed for the past 5 years or so and I am impressed with how long they can stream. Some guys go for three - four hours at a time without even pausing their game and going to the bathroom. Other guys stream for 8 - 10 hours, because that is their full time job and they get paid for it, plus any donations the viewers want to give them.

Like sugar and candy, I game for no more than a few hours on most days and by the end of it I need to take a break. I had to cut sugar off, eliminating all the crappy junk food has given me a lot more motivation. Since I cut gaming by a couple hours I feel a lot better.

You guys in your late teens and early 20s, just wait.

    1. pinkrobot_pb

      pinkrobot_pb

I work from home but never feel the need to play games instead of working. Sometimes I will play for 15 minutes during a lunch break or whatever, but I would not be able to enjoy it if I played when I knew I should be working instead. For me gaming is pure relaxation and that feels best for 1 or 2 hours after a productive day. And when you gain some trophies along the way, it's even better! Even during the weekend I will only play around 3 or 4 hours a day and only when I have nothing else to do.

  13. Anyone that wants to boost MotoGP 13 online trophies (Vita version), let me know. The online is so dead on that game to to the point where it isn’t even funny.

    1. pinkrobot_pb

      pinkrobot_pb

MotoGP 14 on PS3 is completely dead also. Even hard to find a boosting partner for these games, let alone a normal game. A bit weird when you look at how popular the real thing is but oh well.

  14. I got a warning point for posting "Im not going to not play a fun game because it doesn't have a platinum"

It said "That is not the place to post that games are more important than trophies"

A little silly if you ask me. I was not saying that, hell even I play games specifically for trophies! My post literally just said I wasn't going to not play a game, SPECIFICALLY because it does not have a platinum. I didn't even say anything about games being more important than trophies.

Now I have to stare at this silly warning point on my profile for an entire year smh

    1. pinkrobot_pb

      pinkrobot_pb

It's probably not your fault that you did not understand the problem at hand in the first place, so a warning point is a bit harsh tbh.

Whichever console manufacturer is struggling in their race and also acts as a service provider will always try harder when under pressure, and subsequently deliver much better experience for the consumers. But this August, enjoy Draw Slasher with your PS Plus! PlayStation very much stopped trying once online became paid, PS4 came out, Plus went down the drain. The games aren't free, you're just opening a lootbox every month for a few rentals.

    1. pinkrobot_pb

      pinkrobot_pb

The double discounts thing is a bit of a silly thing to do but I do enjoy shopping in sales. In fact I have never bought a game 'new' in the store yet I think. It's a marketing scheme of course but as long as you realize that it's not too big of a worry. Just like the huge discounts you will see in normal stores where a product will be "25% cheaper than before!" but what they won't tell you is that they recently upped the price by that amount or even more, just so they could make that bold claim ;) In the end it all boils down to not believing them outright but being a critical consumer.

  17. Good luck with platting MW2 and let me know if you would like some co-op company. I know most of the tricks by now :-D

    1. pinkrobot_pb

      pinkrobot_pb

I think I found the MW3 spec ops to be a little easier going than the MW2 ones. "Server Crash" was the hardest for me because it's pretty long and the bit with the vehicles at the start can be very frustrating if you're not very good with the grenade launcher like me :) But with MW3 I feel there are simply more missions where you can stay in cover, which definitely helps. I should take a look at both mission lists to say for sure though, because MW special ops nowadays blend together a bit in my memory :P

I mostly played MW3 survival online with very skilled randoms, trying my best to not get in the way too much and they seemed to mostly just enjoy/tolerate my presence haha. I played with a very cool guy on the last (supposedly hardest) levels and that was an awesome way to pick up the last trophies. So survival was mostly just having fun for me.

Anyway, good luck and if any of you wants to play either MW2 or MW3 feel free to add me on PSN, I still enjoy the heck out of those games.

    1. pinkrobot_pb

      pinkrobot_pb

Snatch & Grab: I tried that running tactic but could not make it work as I am not very fast in MW3 (which is odd because I'm also a bit of a defragger). Instead I opted for the tactic of taking it slow and steady until you reach the intel. Right after that you enter the broken plane. First pick off the people below you (*) and when they are all dead, quickly drop down and run past the first plane on the right. There is a gap there to get on the other side of the fusilage. And here's the catch: the enemies can not reach you there. Take it slow again to take them all out from your hiding place. When they stop coming, first lure the new ones out by quickly dashing out of your hiding spot and back again. When they are all dead, run for the smoke.

(* keep an eye on your radar though because sometimes a juggernaut will come up from behind before you have killed the people in front of you)

Ah, so that explains that. I did notice that playing with my brother, but only in the mission Homeland Security and not so much in the other ones. I remember us playing Snatch & Grab co-op for example and that one was fine for us but Homeland Security was almost unplayable at times.
