  1. Well, it's about that time. The PS5 has a launch date that's very soon (as of writing this), has its prices confirmed, and a fair set of launch titles coming with it. That, plus the recent updates to the playstation store that will be making PS3 and Vita games only buyable from those specific consoles, plus the fact it's two generations behind means the future of these games is... iffy. But, if you're like me, it can be hard to even motivate you to play what you have left! There's so many great new games coming out, and these old ones seem so dated, and they'll take forever, and what have you. I get it, trust me, I've been there. But no more! This procrastination is about 15 years in the making, there's already been so many shutdowns for major games it's not even funny. And think of all those single player games! That's what this event is for. Starting now, we're gonna get through that PS3 backlog, even if it kills us. Or, maybe we'll just get as much done as you can while having fun along the way, whatever! You get the point. THE RULES are simple! At least, I'll try to make them simple. 1. List your unfinished/unstarted PS3 games now! All of them, doesn't matter if you've got a backlog 8 billion years long, just put them all down there so you have something to keep track with. If it's really that ungodly long, you can use a spoiler tag to hide it. God knows I'll need to, I have a big backlog myself. We won't judge, that's what the point of this event is. 2. Play your PS3 games! You don't have to EXCLUSIVELY play PS3 games, that would be insane and really restrictive, but do your best to complete as many as you can! 3. Share whenever you beat a PS3 game! You don't have to do it EVERY single time if you don't want to, but at least one post a month I think is a good way to keep it. Feel free to do every time though, so we can all cheer you on during your journey! Your post might motivate someone else to get that game out of their backlog too. 4. Don't lose hope! This may not feel like a rule, but I'm making it one! When you write out that backlog, or you get a long way through this and you realize you have so much left, or even if you left it abandoned for ages because you forgot about this event, it may feel like you should just give up and forget about it. Don't! There's a great library of games out there, and even if all you're playing is shovelware garbage, at least you can throw it out afterwards and say you don't have it looming over your head anymore. If you try to quit, I'll punish you by keeping you here! Or, something like that... THE DATES are right here! A deadline is always important to keep people motivated, I think. So this event will be ONE YEAR long. START DATE: November 1st, 2020 END DATE: November 1st, 2021 What will happen in that time? How many games will you get through? Who knows! Let's find out! THE REWARDS are plentiful! I know at least for me it's hard to get into an event if I don't know I have a shiny .png waiting for me at the end of it, so that's the carrot I'm dangling at the end of the stick now. There's plenty, so don't feel like you'll need to go all in just to get something. The Participation Badge is just that. You get it for participating in the event! Complete one PS3 game, just one measly game, and you get this. Easy, right? Make sure you make a post about it so I know! The Completion Badge is also self explanatory! If you complete a good percentage of your games, probably over 75%, maybe more maybe less depending on the size of the backlog, you'll get this! There might even be a bonus shiny gold version or something if you get through 100% of the backlog you posted here. The Backlog Heap Badge is for people who were really in the thick of it at the start of this event. If you had a REALLY big backlog (which is subjective and will be judged on a case-by-case basis), and you managed to take a good chunk out of it, you'll get this! This will have less strict requirements than the Completion Badge, since it's more about quantity than quality. The Effort Badge is for those of you that really pushed yourselves through this. If you had horrifying multiplayer slogs, ungodly amounts of hours in some crappy JRPG, or pushed your skills to the limit with some incredibly hard games, you'll get this. Again, it's case-by-case, but it should be pretty obvious through your game choice. The Reporter Badge is the last, and second easiest, badge to get here. If you make at least one post here a month reporting back your progress, you'll get this. I heavily recommend you post more, though. If you're especially prolific, you might even get some bonus badge of this too! HERE IS THE SPREADSHEET FOR THE EVENT! I know a lot of people here need to get through their PS3 backlog before it all goes under, so hopefully this event is the motivation you need. Sign up now!
  2. My favorite Christmas movie HAS to be National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. The family watches it every year and we laugh every time!
  3. Hell, why not? Done a pretty good job this year. Taking a page out of a couple others in this thread and highlighting some I really think others should play, since i had fun with them. 1. Death Stranding 2. Titanfall 2 3. inFamous First Light 4. God of War III 5. Need for Speed Payback (The soundtrack for this one is A+) 6. DOOM (2016) 7. Doom Eternal 8. 1979 Revolution: Black Friday 9. Hunted: The Demon's Forge 10. Republique (Biggest sleeper ever imo, one of my new favorite games) 11. Zotrix 12. Sayonara Wild Hearts 13. Mortal Kombat 11 14. Watch_Dogs 2 15. Extinction 16. Job Simulator 17. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order 18. Slayaway Camp 19. The Last of Us Part II 20. For Honor 21. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves Remastered 22. Psychedelica of the Black Butterfly 23. Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth 1 24. Life is Strange 2 25. The Sims 4 26. Deadly Premonition: The Director's Cut (Also a new favorite, wouldn't you agree Zach?) 27. Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'hoole 28. Peasant Knight 29. Nextgen Sandbox 30. Yomawari: Night Alone 31. Blasphemous 32. MediEvil 33. Mad Max 34. Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 35. Prison Break 36. Aquanaut's Holiday: Hidden Memories 37. Mindjack This was actually more than I thought I did, and it's not even counting the 100% only games I did. Some were good, some were bad, some were hot hot garbage, but it was a good year overall.
  4. Second to last update... has it really been almost a year already? It's crazy how time flies. Two games done this month, almost a third but I don't think i'll be able to finish it before December starts. Oh well, it's close, so I'm not too worried. P is for Prison Break was really trash, ahaha. I knew when I picked it up that it was going to be really bad, but WOW it was a mess. Really bad stealth mechanics, terrible fighting, what I have to assume is an extremely watered down version of the first season of Prison Break the TV show, it all just boils into a game that probably shouldn't have been made. It did make me curious what the original show was though, so maybe it wasn't completely without worth? I had to play this one entirely with a bootleg PS3 controller though thanks to the move. A is for Aquanaut's Holiday: Hidden Memories was actually really really fun! It's hard to even get your hands on this game in English, but I found a way, and I don't regret it for a second. The story was really really interesting, and for a game released in 2008, the graphics shockingly good. It's so easy to get lost in the atmosphere of the game, and though it was kind of an odyssey getting translations to all of the guides written in Japanese, overall it was still a really fun experience. If anyone has a strangely exorbitant amount of money lying around, hey, I'd recommend it. Only one month left. Mad Max really fucked me over with this one, since I think I'd actually have a shot at doing all this if it didn't shut down exactly when it did. At the very least I'll be able to complete the challenge, though I'll almost certainly have to dive into the backups, and that means no bonus for me. I was halfway done with Outer Worlds though, and X-Blades looks like it's going to be really quick, so maaaaaybe I can get it done? I'm pretty doubtful I'll get Deux Ex in that time, but maybe the full main list. Maybe. It'll be tight. Well, whatever happens, I've loved this event so much. I'm so glad I got to jump into all these games that I may never have gotten to otherwise, whether they were good, bad, weird, or otherwise. At the end of December I'll have one last update of my final progress, along with my thoughts overall on the games I played. Good luck to everyone, we're so close!
  5. Everyone has been added and stuff has been updated! Best of luck to the newcomers, and I hope things go well! As another note, I didn't count games that don't have trophies, since those are tough to count.
  6. I mean it's just me, but I would be totally okay with that. Anyone who wants to play the game, if I put forward the effort, as long as they're not breaking anything I'd be okay with that. Like someone else in the thread said, they might even find they have fun while doing it and become a fan.
  7. Guess you completed the "Stare" activity then.
  8. Quick one done in just a couple days. Happy to have another online game out of the way. Mindjack Remember this game? Yeah, neither does anyone else. I'm really disappointed, since I thought this game was going to be an under-appreciated little gem. Unfortunately, it's yet another piece of generic cover-shooter trash from 2011. The characters are all snark with zero depth, the setting is boring yet also unexplained, zero effort was put into worldbuilding or character building... I mean the mind jacking mechanic was cool but that can't carry a whole game. The story made zero sense too. Really can't recommend this one, but it was made a lot more bearable playing with a partner for half of it. COMPLETED GAMES The trash never ends. Got some more "fun" games ahead.
  9. Did this game ever get crossplay with PC or anything? Tried it out a while back but never got too far into it.
  10. I'll give them a pass on Worms. I mean, there's like 5 PS5 games out right now, there's not many options to give away. Just Cause 4... I mean, at least it's a AAA game? Rocket Arena just looks like shit though. Not a great selection.
  11. Good news everyone! The spreadsheet is here! THIS IS THE LINK to it, but it'll also be in the main post of course. Please let me know if I got anything wrong in your list of games! For the most part I was able to catch if you just listed a collection (like the Ratchet and Clank HD collection, for example) and not all three games individually, so I was able to add accordingly, but I got lazy with some of the people whose games were in the triple digits and didn't check them all. So if it looks weird, just give me a holler! Big shoutout to the people who counted for me too, haha. Also @black__bunny and @Vynzen for whatever reason I am unable to open the spoiler tags in your guys' posts, and therefore could not count the games you have. I don't know why that is, so... yeah. I did my best with what I had. Let me know if you would be interested in me making customized lists for each individual person. I can make full charts for everyone with ALL of your listed games there, where you can track each individual thing you've done. If not enough people care though I might not do it, because that's a lot of work, haha. The "Reporting?" tab is a work in progress, I'm still trying to figure out how to get that to work properly. Congratulations to everyone who's been making progress! I'm sorry I haven't been a very good OP and haven't been around to wish everyone luck, but I've moved recently, and that's been a huge hassle, but I hope to keep people motivated going forward. Especially to all the newcomers as well, who I've also added! And in celebration, I've got a new game complete too! Aquanaut's Holiday: Hidden Memories This is probably the rarest game I own. I somehow managed to come into possession of an English copy of this, and I really enjoyed it! It's an Endless Ocean type game where you swim around in a sub and explore a tropical Atoll, and it was really engaging. It's really pretty, even with the dated PS3 graphics, and despite some slightly shoddy translations, the story was actually really fascinating. It's a very rare physical only game, even more rare in non-Japanese, but if you can get it somehow, I would heavily recommend giving it a shot. It was a shocking amount of fun. From here on out I'm going to keep a completed games tab on each post, so it'll be easier to see how far I've come through the year. COMPLETED Keep it up everyone! And to all the Americans out there, Happy Thanksgiving!
  12. This is the first time I've ever actually seen a dev do this. What a bunch of bros. Wish this was more of an industry standard.
  13. It does not affect trophies in any way, and it won't matter for anything other than small gameplay changes. All the nemesis transfer is is an orc or two getting transferred between games. I didn't even notice it happening, so all should be fine.
  14. Time for my first update since the beginning of the event! Guess that every week thing didn't work out, haha. Still, I've been enjoying myself, and seeing the many... wonders.. of the PS3 library. Prison Break Yeah, not all the games I listed were good, haha. This is a video game adaptation of the first season of then-popular TV show Prison Break. I hear it's actually really good, but this game definitely isn't lmao. It wasn't too hard or too long at least though, and hey, it's one off the list! Hope everyone else has been enjoying the challenge so far. I'm working on putting together a spreadsheet to keep track of stuff!
  15. I feel like any DLC or such you might want to buy on the PS3 should be done ASAP. It's only a matter of time until it bugs out completely, and then we'll all be screwed.
  16. I just wanna have some fun with the games, man.
  17. I don't think it's rude, they're just curious. There's been plenty of times in the past where a seemingly unobtainable online trophy somehow managed to work itself out again, like Demon's Souls, anything with Gonespy, etc. They just want to know, I don't think there's anything wrong with that.
  18. Aaaaa this is so cute. Thank you so much for putting the time in to do this! Sorry for being impatient earlier, hope all is going well! I love it already.
  19. The hype killed me on Andromeda, but I'm actually really excited for this. Even if they continue the Andromeda storyline, there's still a lot of potential there for a good game. ME1 was rough too, so I'm willing to let bygones be bygones and get my hype train rolling yet again.
  20. It's always such a shame to see things like this happen. These threads are always full of people who didn't quite make it at the end. This time, I can't even blame them, because this particular thing takes real time and isn't even based on skill. I got the challenge and the plat this month, but it still took forever. To all those who got an unobtainable for this, don't despair. I got fucked by Portal 2, and my whole username is a reference to it! Just keep going and don't worry too much about one game. Shit happens, there'll be more.
  21. Yeeeeeah! So nice to finally take my New Years' decorations down. Loved this event, and played plenty of great games for it. Thank you so much @Spacey Dweeb!
  22. Alright everyone! In some time zones this event's already begun, so get on to it! Happy Halloween to everyone who it's not past midnight for yet, haha. Good luck! I'm going to go ahead and keep the invites open for anyone who wants to join in through the year, since after the PS5 comes out I'm sure there'll be more jumping on the train, haha. Good luck everyone! I even completed a PS3 game a few days before the event started, and it wasn't on my original list because I knew that would happen, but I'm the creator of this event and I can do whatever I want. So let's kick it off with one! Castlevania: Lords of Shadow This game's not too bad. I enjoyed it anyway! It came out in October of 2010, so I only missed the mark by a decade, but that's fine! The DLCs were way too expensive (ten dollars each, these days? Geez) but overall it was still a good experience. If I can get my hands on the sequels I'll even play those too, though I need to clear out a bit more backlog first, haha. To everyone else, do your best, don't get discouraged, and keep on playing! I know you can do it.
  23. Has anyone gotten this sale to work at all for them? I can't even access it. All the other ones work fine.
  24. I think as a runner of the event you did fantastic, honestly. You were really active in the thread, and the idea behind it was super solid. If you're worried about timing, I've done a couple winter/holiday events, and I generally keep the timing about the same. Since the "christmas month" is December, i give it two weeks on either side of it. So, it starts halfway through November, and ends halfway through January. That way people have time on either side if they get busy with stuff, and it still feels like the time of year it should happen. In terms of announcing it I've generally gone with two weeks to a week and a half ahead of when the event starts, and then allowing more people to join for a little while into it. Obviously doesn't really work when you have teams, but it's just an idea. But yeah! This was still great. Good luck with the badges, I'm looking forward to updating my signature again.
  25. Well I was right about Mad Max, haha. That game took me fucking FOREVER, though it doesn't help that this month has been super busy for me in real life anyway. I only got one game in for October, which is kinda worrying for the rest of my list, but as long as I crank it hard through the rest I think I'll be okay. Might have to dip into those backups, but hey, we'll see. Hopefully no massive 80 hour games known for being time consuming and glitchy will be getting any shutdowns by the end of the year, hahaha. At least the game I got is fitting for the month! C is for Castlevania: Lords of Shadow is alright! I wouldn't call it amazing by any means, but it was a serviceable enough God of War clone, and an interesting outreach from the rest of the Castlevania story. I don't really see why they decided to portray the main character as this horrifying figure who's committed the ultimate sin, when really he wasn't that bad of a guy in all honesty. Oh well, the gameplay was fun at least, and though Paladin mode was hard, nothing was too unstoppable for me. However, did you know that the DLC for this game is TEN BUCKS EACH? They barely give you any content, just two levels with new content each (the first one technically has three but the first level is just reused assets), and the second DLC is basically one long boss battle. The worst part is, you need it to even understand the ending! It's a total scam, and definitely the spookiest thing for me this month. Kinda sad I only got the one, but I think it was worth it to knock out what will now be an unobtainable. Really hoping I finish this list by the end of the year, but it'll likely be cutting it close now. Here's hoping!
