  1. Chill Weekend Gaming Vibes:

So yeah, this is another one I haven't actually heard in-game for years and years due to my fondness for listening to music, interviews, and 'casts when replaying games.

I do like to leave the sound effects and voices on whenever possible though, especially with a game as chock full of charming compressed stock audio effects as this... hoo, gotta tell ya, it certainly was an experience listening to The Dark Side of the Moon (the album, not the nonexistent lunar phenomena) for the first time and hearing a very familiar coin stash sound effect...!

  2. Well, folks... I'm grounded! Err, I mean, I finally completed Grounded mode (with Permadeath frosting) in The Last of Us Part II! Compared to its original counterpart, it was a whole lot less fun... it won't be the last time this comparison is made, and I didn't even think the original was all that.

Checkpoint stinginess is all well and good(?) but at the very least have enough sense to place them after the unskippable walk and talk dialogue scenes that seem to start off nearly every tough and/or lengthy chapter. I swear, probably a fourth of the time I lost to deaths can be chalked up to repetitive bullshit of this nature... though, even more can be attributed to the lack of finer details and genuine misinformation in the guide featured on this very site.

Rather hilariously--for lack of a better word--when time lost from deaths is included, Grounded Mode took almost exactly as long as playing the game without skipping cutscenes.

@Crispy_Oglop  Give the first one a try and you'll most likely find out whether it's for you. The gameplay is good enough to cancel out the numerous story issues... and if you actually do unquestionably end up enjoying the latter, more power to you, I guess.

    3. Crispy_Oglop

Thanks for the advice :) Two questions I want to ask about TLOU2 is around something that doesn't get brought up much because it seems to get overshadowed about people talking about the really divisive storyline. I have managed to stay away from that to avoid spoilers so all I know is that it has provoked extreme and pretty intense debate.

My questions are more core gameplay and horror related - if you strip all of the controversial storyline choices away - is the gameplay good? and also - What is the horror like? Is that effective?

      Stan Lee

      Yes on both counts

I love this! It's such an iconic piece of music, thanks for sharing it :)

...You guys seeing this too, or am I just getting a major Tetris effect reaction from playing too much Arkham City again? 😰

😮🤔 Ya agreed, you better switch over to detective mode just be safe 🧐😆

      Just blow up the wall.

You arent the hero we need but the one we deserve.

    4. AK-1138

So anyway, long story short, I ended up blowing it up with some explosives... say, uhh, any of you guys plumbers? Or, if not plumbers per se, were you otherwise trained in the art of pipe fitting before straitened circumstances forced you into a life of digital achievement collection? Man, water mains are so inconvenient...

Wow these bring back some lovely memories 💞

Coincidentally enough, I was just listening to the Super Mario 64 soundtrack a few days ago, for the first time in prob a decade!

    2. AK-1138

Heh, come to think of it, I haven't heard it in about a decade myself, I'd say! SM64 is a Christmas tradition in my house, but I'm always blasting some holiday tunes with a capital CH while actually playing...

Though actually, just recently, I got a crazy notion to blast the slide level theme while getting this trophy... only trouble was, I kept on making mistakes, so I had to keep putting the song on repeat for a solid half hour 😂 Doing weird stuff like that gives me life, what can I say?

Still the best Star Wars game ever. Living in hope for any kind of a PS release for longer than I care to remember.. I don't even necessarily want a remake because its mid-2000s WRPG jankiness is too much a part of its charm to me.

    1. Copanele

Agreed here. I always thought that KOTOR is one of the best videogames ever made, even if you hate Star Wars :D

    2. AihaLoveleaf

KOTOR is one of those games that I have seen players talk fondly about since release, but never got around to playing. I’ll take a PS release too.

    3. zizimonster

Have never played the duology, but I'm excited for the re-release coming this year. :D

    1. DaivRules

Sadly, this is all too common once a business is around long enough:

Former employee Lawrence New: “It’s [Debenhams’ closure] very sad but was on the cards for many years. I believe every person from store manager above should hang their heads in shame. For years nothing was done, just collecting wages and not fighting the massive issues.

“The pandemic was the final nail, but all the cutbacks, lessening of quality and how the structure had gone pear-shaped, were the main reasons for the closures.”

Covid simply accelerated what was already happening for a bunch of companies.

Now, I don't know what the heck they put in the milk over there, but it sure does sharpen you up and get you ready for a bit of the old Rated E 10+ violence, my little droogies.

    1. Joe Dubz

      Joe Dubz

Man that brings back so many fond memories!! I know Majora's Mask wasn't received as well as it's predecessor on N64, but I loved that one at least as much, if not more 🤪

I'm also very much interested for the Breath of the Wild sequel!

    2. Stan Lee

      Stan Lee

I always enjoyed Majora's Mask more than Ocarina of Time and it honestly shocked me when I first discovered that this was an unpopular opinion

  9. Chill Weekend Gaming Vibes:

Almost manages to counteract the unnecessarily repetitive tedium of having to consult out-of-game sources to complete a needlessly bloated feather hunt. About as big a compliment as can be given.

(Please ignore the fact that by that point during both my playthroughs, I'd long switched to listening to music instead of game audio, 'kay?)

    1. rjkclarke

I feel your pain on that one!! I was in the same boat fairly recently

  10. TrollQuote.JPG

Aunt May IV be with you! Live long and thanks for all the fish! And may Grabthar's Hammer be ever in your favour...

    1. AihaLoveleaf

Thank you for the inspiration today

One of the most literal CWGVs thus far, as I've spent a fair few weekends c̶h̶e̶a̶t̶i̶n̶g̶ ̶a̶t̶ playing poker around here, especially when doing the annual JM and AM Memorial Tournaments. Not a bad place Landon Ricketts chose to settle down 😲

  12. So, who else is feeling that Degenatron hype? 😍😍😍

    1. Honor_Hand

"I'll never go to school again". xxD

That fake ad in Vice City always made me chuckle so much when it played out. 😂

  13. Wow... how can you describe a day like this other than...

Yes, as the local self-styled Spring Marshal of these parts, I now declare spring has sprung! You can't buy a day like this for all the money in the world. I've been out walking in the sunshine for... well, I stopped paying attention after two and a half hours! I also took a bunch of pictures that couldn't even capture one one-billionth of the real experience and am posting them because I don't know what else to do with 'em and my therapist said creative-ish stuff is good for me 😂

One of the few snow patches left in the woods. I saw a squirl like seven seconds after this!

From the lakeside. We look pretty safe from flooding this year, but ya never know!

The closest thing we have to a waterfall around here that isn't 93% industrial runoff 😂

Weren't even a hint of these li'l blue flowery things a week ago!

Not much action down at Feathery Corners today. Usually enough of them to make a half-decent remake of The Birds (or a superior one of Birdemic), so I don't know what the duck's up with that!

...Right, so I suppose you're wondering what's my tangiential video gamey connection for this otherwise irrelevant post this time? Uhh, well... this post is actually sponsored by that 10/10 enjoyment and 10/10 difficulty 1000+ hour Vita classic, It's Spring Again! Them completion rates are high because it's just that good! You'd better pick it up before they shut the stores down, or you'll be missing out big time! Okay, I'm off to spend my promotional residuals on, like, half a stick of gum or something! Never forget that nature is awesome and we humans kinda don't deserve it.

  14. Chill Weekend Gaming Vibes:

The response some people get from ASMR is what I've always gotten from the Thief trilogy 😀 Music is my anti-drug and low-key droney Thief ambience is the anti-druggiest of it all in terms of game-sourced tunes with a capital "Ch"!

    Have a good weekend, y'all!

    1. AK-1138

Whuh? Put up the wrong one... oh, Bonehoard is "chill" alright, just in a completely different meaning of the word 😱

(Pssst... hey, I'm going to the bear pits tomorrah... ya wanna come with? 🤓)

  15. Remote control up and died on me and I can't afford a new one until after the weekend... in the meantime, I can't switch channels, and my only way of muting the audio output is keeping a headset I'm not using plugged into my controller at all times. MacGyver would be proud! Ultimately, just glad it weren't the TV departing for the Great Home Theater in the Sky....

Umm, this has been your First World Problem Digest for the day 😅

    1. DaivRules

If you've got a recent smart TV almost all of them have apps that can replace the remote.

    2. AK-1138

      Thanks, I'll look into it!

  16. Hey, just a random guy here... just wanted to let you know you're one of the best writers on this site. Your most recent platinum reviews are a delight.

So, uhh, you're pretty good, I guess. Keep on doing them there good things and stuff.

    1. rjkclarke

Thank you so much that really does mean a lot!! Thanks for the follow as well by the way. Honestly though, that genuinely put a smile on my face to hear you say that.

I've really enjoyed writing those platinum reviews over the last few months, I'm almost a bit annoyed at myself I hadn't started to write them sooner, because there are so many games I've played that I'd love to share my thoughts on. I might get find a place to add some of them at some point if I can figure out an appropriate place to put them. I can't really put a platinum from 2010 in the Most Recent Platinum thread haha.

Seriously though thanks for posting this, its really nice to see someone has actually been reading and enjoyin them, I find them really cathartic write, plus its always nice to read other peoples views on games you've played or maybe plan to play. I worry I'm maybe a little too positive sometimes, but I honestly just try and see the best in things, if theres something I don't like though I won't hesitate to mention it.

Apologies for the long rambly reply haha!! I guess that tends to be something I do without thinking. Again thank you for the kind words, they really are much appreciated.

  17. Chill Weekend Gaming Vibes:

So this just came up in my weekly Spotify release radar thing which I invariably listen to without looking through... basically, what if Balamb Garden, but Hogwarts? It would have been even more perfect if you fought a certain three-headed dog in Balamb instead of the other Garden 😏

Have a great weekend, and may your gaming hours be copious! :yay:

I genuinely look forward to hospital visits in EB/M2 just for that bassline! I swear it has actual curative effects... they should consider blasting it on real hospital PA systems just to see what might happen.

    1. SnowxSakura

Whole game has some amazing music

  19. Okay, Sony... cute long-form April Fool's joke and all that. Respect the amount of effort and detail went into it. Feel free to tell us the store shutdown thing was fake any time now...!

    1. stealthlevel100

    2. MrGarland

      Oh, if it was fake.

  20. Chill Weekend Gaming Vibes:

(Yeah, I'm gonna make these a regular thing starting now because... well, just because. Wow, is anyone else hungry for eggs and bacon and a couple of weird leaves for some inexplicable reason?)

  21. Lesley-Is-AQTE.jpg

Umm, guys? I came across this QTE marker while out walking today, but it's not responding to my input. I am now stuck with no way to move forward... help? 😟

Any onlookers when you were walking? - they might be asking why the controller in your hands :hmm:

    4. AK-1138

Okay, so the good news; as is evident from my typing this, I made it home alright. The bad news is, the story of how it happened is too long and convoluted for me to recap in this comment section, and besides, thanks to involvement from [EXPUNGED], the matter is now bound by confidentiality as a matter of international security. The movie rights alone could make me millions, but a man's gotta do his civic duty.

@xEl_Cidx The people not walking around with a DualShock 4 in preparation for any given situation are the crazy ones, alright? The ignorami possessing the temerity to ask usually retract their question at the sight of my Mark XXVIII Custom Thagomizer Ray Gun... and no, for the last bloody time, that isn't a euphemism!

  22. 20210322-135043.jpg

Now, I don't know about you, but in my view, Shadow of Mordor is the greatest action adventure action fantasy fantasy game of the early 2010s. Pioneering stuff, pal!

Two actions is cool. But imagine what an action action action game would be like!

    3. AK-1138

@Alderriz Hmm, so, like... a "triple A" game, you mean? I don't know why, but that sounds to me like a guaranteed recipe for success!

    4. ShonenCat

I remembered going into it with such low expectations but came out of it surprisingly satisfied. Execution kills never got old for me 😂

  23. Watching the two-parter season opener of Star Trek: The Next Generation (I have never actually done a Star Trek before) because I've randomly struck up an improbably close social media friendship with a woefully undercredited artist who worked on the show.

    ...Life is strange.

    1. Crispy_Oglop

Season 1 and 2 are a bit of a mess because of how much Gene Roddenberry interfered with pretty much the entire production process. But after that it starts to get better and better and at times some of the best Science-fiction ever to grace the TV screen :).

    2. Darling Baphomet

      Darling Baphomet

What Crispy said, if you find yourself struggling with TNG, I recommend consulting a viewer guide - a few of the episodes like Code of Honor are just indefensible trash that I would feel bad for making anyone who isn't already a seasoned Trekkie watch.

Whuh? What in the world is this? I don't remember writing this... and I certainly don't remember whatever I felt like expressing inordinate fondness for at the time. Best as I can figure I might have been trying to post some kind of compliment to someone else's status and gotten distracted by something... I weren't exactly 100% sober last night either.

Oh well... "I love" is pretty much an accurate summation of my new life philosophy these days, anyways 😅
