  1. Happy Holidays! It's Connect-4 time! (Inspired by @XX_FTW's Bingo Bonanza 2019-2020) With stores starting to stock holiday merchandise, the Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas seasons are upon us. But, did you know that there's practically a holiday celebrated every day of the year? Indeed, holiday joy can extend far beyond the stereotypical ones (though they will always be classics!). Your goal (should you choose to accept it), will be to explore some of the more obscure (and sometimes wacky) holidays celebrated around the world while playing a version of Connect-4. Event Dates & Data: Start: 00:00 UTC on September 26, 2021 End: 23:59 UTC on January 31, 2022 (UTC Date & Time Clock) Spreadsheet of Participants & Games: Click here. The checkbox indicates whether you've completed the line in full or not. If it's completed, it counts towards your donation total. (Keep reading for more info!) How This Works: 1. You will go to this link & generate a Holiday Connect 4 card. It is recommended that you bookmark your card for easy access / so you can keep track of it. 2. Post your card as an image in this thread. You will not be counted as a participant in the event unless you do this. Once you have done so, I will add you to the spreadsheet. Note: Once your board has been added to the spreadsheet, you cannot generate a new one. 3. Using your card and the Holiday Calendars listed in the next section, you will do the following: You will first use the O, N, D, J at the top of your card to determine what month's Holiday Calendar you should be looking at for a particular column. O = October N = November D = December J = January Then, you will scroll down the row to find the date you need to use OR the requirement that must be met, and find a Holiday corresponding that date on the Holiday Calendars. So, for example, if I had an O5, I would need to find a holiday that was celebrated on October 5th. If you get a date that does not exist in a particular month or a date that doesn't have any holidays then that space becomes a free space and you can choose to play any game you want, irrespective of holiday, as long as it meets the requirement below. Think of it as a holiday gift! Once you have your date OR requirement, you will choose a game that somehow represents a holiday celebrated on that day OR choose a game that meets the stated requirement. Regional and platform stacks are fine. But, Auto-pops of games are not allowed. Holidays are meant to be enjoyed in full, and we'll be applying that here too. Additionally, all games must be completed to 100% or Platinum during the event time period AND the game must have a 50th fastest completion time of at least 1 hour. If a game has less than 50 completions, the very highest numbered completion must be at least 1 hour. So, if only 17 people have completed a game, that 17th person must have had a fastest completion time that is at least 1 hour long. This is meant to be a more casual event, and you can certainly use games you've already started. But, because there is donation money being raised, some effort would be nice. 4. Once you've completed a game for your board, please state the game and the holiday used when you give updates. You must do this in order for the game to count. This is so that we can all learn a bit more about the many, many unique holidays that are celebrated around the world. Once you've done this, I'll consider it checked off on the stats spreadsheet. Holiday Calendars (2021): Note: The calendars below currently show dates for 2021, but will be switching to 2022 dates at the end of the year. I have taken screenshots of the 2021 dates. So, both the 2021 and 2022 dates will be valid. If there's a holiday celebrated during one of these months that is not listed at the links below, please try to provide a link to a Wikipedia page or another source for the Holiday. (I will also try to confirm on my end. But, if there is not a source provided OR I cannot find one when I look myself, I will not be able to accept that holiday as counting for this event.) Alternative Holidays that have been confirmed are listed below the main monthly holiday calendars. I'm looking into getting a badge designed for this event. If someone would like to volunteer to help with this part, feel free to PM me. The extent of my digital artistic abilities are the banner for this post. So, I'm sure there's someone much more adept than I. The First Holiday - Complete 1 row, column, or diagonal of 4 on your generated game board. May the 4th Be with You - Complete any 4 lines on your generated game board. 8th World Wonder - Complete any 8 lines on your generated game board. Holiday Blackout - Complete all spaces on your generated game board. Additionally as the holidays are all about celebrating and being generous, for each completed level of rewards on your board, I will donate $4 USD (with a $4 USD bonus for Holiday Blackout) to World Central Kitchen, a non-profit organization that seeks to provide emergency food relief and resiliency programs for individuals, and has done so on at least 5 continents around the world. So, I think it's a fitting choice, given the global span of the holidays featured in this event. That means that a max of $20 USD will be donated for every board that hits Holiday Blackout status. Donation totals will be calculated throughout the event, with the final donation amount being given in February 2022. Closing Comments: Whew! I know that was a ton of info. But, if anyone has any questions, please let me know! And, happy holiday gaming!!
  2. Yeah, Taransworld is great! I've already got it bookmarked. I'll have to check out the other one though! Thanks letting me know! And yeah, there's still a vault event on the 24-26th as scheduled. The one that's this Tuesday-Thursday is compensation for all the bugs in the game recently and for the fact that Guild Wars has been delayed. So, if they follow through, we will have two vault events by the end of the month. The notice is on the official forums at this link (you'll have to scroll for a bit to see the Dev's reply with the notice:https://community.gemsofwar.com/t/recent-game-issues/73229/60).
  3. Thank you! It's much appreciated! 😊 To be fair though, I genuinely thought you were gonna win that round. So, the results were a surprise for me. I'm sorry the comeback attempt didn't go the way you wanted. We'll see how things turn out, lol. πŸ˜‰
  4. This is way late. But, thank you for all the wonderful advice! You are completely right that the vault events are OP for resource farming. I managed to get Cedric S. during it, and because of that, was able to put together the gold farming team that uses him. It's been a lifesaver, and is a team I use 95% of the time. Side Note: There's supposedly going to be another vault event this upcoming Tuesday-Thursday! And, Rowanne + Leprechaun + Maraji Queen is also a great team for Delves and events. The Harpy Mage and getting the 10,000 renown are my next goals, I think. With that being said.... Update #3 - This really shouldn't be much a surprise given what I posted above. But, since my last update, I've made a ton of progress in Gems of War and completed several more of the DLC packs. If you need any other info, @gruffiiti & @Inuty, let me know. Color Key: Blue - DLC completed in a previous update (DLC Pack # according to PSNP in parentheses) Green - DLC completed in this update (DLC Pack # according to PSNP in parentheses) Black (Non-Bolded & Italicized) - Main Game Title List of Completed DLC for This Event (14 DLC Packs Total): Gems of War (PS4) Hero Class Update (DLC Pack 2) PvP Update (DLC Pack 3) Guild Update (DLC Pack 4) Guild Wars Update (DLC Pack 6) Quality of Life Update (DLC Pack 7) Visual Update (DLC Pack 9) Live Events Update (DLC Pack 10) Hero Update (DLC Pack 12) Guild Improvement Update (DLC Pack 15) Social Update (DLC Pack 16) Explore Update (DLC Pack 19) Epic Vault & Arena Rework Update (DLC Pack 24) Hero Gems Update (DLC Pack 26) Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale (PS3) Fearless (DLC Pack 1)
  5. Update #2 - First off, thanks @gruffiiti & @Inuty for already updating my info on the spreadsheet. It's much appreciated!! I'm posting here to make sure I keep track of everything myself, too, and to make sure we're all on the same page. Since my last update, I completed 3 more DLC packs, all in Gems of War (PS4), which brings my total number of completions for this event to the 4 noted in the spreadsheet. Also, a big shout-out to @Han_the_Dragon for unintentionally introducing me to the game by finishing off the Warband & Shine Update for their 1st DLC pack of this event. I looked the game up after you posted, and well...here we are, lol. I don't expect to get through all of the DLC packs in the game by the end of the event. But, I may be able to complete a few more in that game if the RNG for chests, keys, and resources ends up being on my side. Otherwise, I have plenty of other games with DLC I can work through in the meantime. I just don't know how fast I'll be getting to those, as I'm trying to get past the mini-hurdle of getting my 100th plat done. Color Key: Blue - DLC completed in a previous update (DLC Pack # according to PSNP in parentheses) Green - DLC completed in this update (DLC Pack # according to PSNP in parentheses) Black (Non-Bolded & Italicized) - Main Game Title List of Completed DLC for This Event (4 DLC Packs Total): Gems of War (PS4) Hero Class Update (DLC Pack 2) PvP Update (DLC Pack 3) Quality of Life Update (DLC Pack 7) Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale (PS3) Fearless (DLC Pack 1)
  6. Yay! This is exciting! I don't want to assume anything. So, I do just want to let y'all know that I would like to continue participating and be in season 34 if at all possible. This past season was tons of fun! (Though, I really do need to get back in the habit of using Discord again...I kinda fell off with that part, lol πŸ˜…)
  7. Update #3 - Completed Two Pink Games @Beyondthegrave07 & @Starrk_01 Gothic Murder: Adventure That Changes Destiny | NA - PS4 | Current Progress: 100% Note: This cover has a lot of pink/orange blending. I see pink between the word "Gothic" and the girl's face (Hex: ffaaad). I ran the image through a color picker and got a color hex of ff5a68 on the rose next to the "G" in "Gothic" which looks like a dark rose pink to me. Vampire: The Masquerade - Coteries of New York | PS4 - NA | Current Progress: 100% Note: This cover does admittedly have tons of red. But, the small amount of pink on this cover is the area that is noticeably lighter than the rest of the image and seems to highlight an entrance of sorts (under the "a" in "Masquerade"). I ran the image through a color picker and got a hex of f2adae, which is a light pink. In terms of my comments on either of these visual novels, I appreciated the setting and atmosphere of both games. (Gothic Murder - A murder mystery with supernatural elements set in a 19th century manor house; Vampire Masquerade - You are a newly turned vampire that must navigate the politics of vampire society in 21st century New York City). But, in both games, the main characters seemed to lack much of a personality, and there were grammatical errors in Gothic Murder that often took me out of the story. Vampire Masquerade also lacked an easy way to return to a previous choice if you made a mistake, which made playing through the story unnecessarily frustrating, as one mistake meant starting a new playthrough. But, with that being said, of the two, Vampire Masquerade was the more interesting VN, due to the interesting side characters / side quests that made each playthrough seem like a largely unique experience, and due to the side quests, the side characters got some development, which was nice, and expanded personalities. Gothic Murder suffered from its one-dimensional characters, and linear story that didn't really have much difference between its two routes until the last 5 minutes of the game. Games Already Completed & Counted for this Event: Orange: 1. Zuma (PS3) (βœ…) 2. Little Misfortune (PS4) (βœ…) Pink: 1. Hatoful Boyfriend (PS4) (βœ…) 2. Hatoful Boyfriend: Holiday Star (PS4) (βœ…)
  8. It's been a while, but I really do need to make mass updates on all the events I'm participating and hosting in the next 24 hours, and with my family expecting a potential visit from relatives today, It's safe to say that I need to stop my attempt at binging through my remaining games for this event. Pros: I managed to bring my total up to 8 completed games, including the 3 I originally committed to, and widened my gaming scope some. Cons: I wish I had planned things a bit better on my end though, I I found myself caught in the trap of wanting trying to plan my milestone 100th plat and working through this event at the same time, lol. It also doesn't help that a few of the shorter games I played that would have fit the Halloween theme perfectly didn't hit the 6 hour fastest minimum runtime, and I didn't take as much advantage of October as I thought I would. Oh well, lol. I guess there's always next year. πŸ˜‰ I learned that I'm more open to spooky horror-based games than I thought, too. So, I don't regret any of the games I've played at all. My final list for this event is below, with the date of the plat or 100% in parentheses. I ended up making a few swaps. So, for those that I did, you'll see a little explanation of how the game fits the event. Final List of Completed Games for the Event: 1. () I Saw Black Clouds | NA - PS4 | Current Progress: 100% (Sept. 7th) 2. () The Infectious Madness of Doctor Dekker | NA - PS4 | Current Progress: 100% (Sept. 24th) 3. () The Wolf Among Us | NA - PS3 | Current Progress: 100% (Sept. 23rd) 4. () Batman: The Telltale Series | NA - PS4 | Current Progress: 100% (Oct. 3rd) 5. () Slayaway Camp | (NA - PS Vita) | Current Progress: 100% (October 30th) You complete puzzles as a serial killer and complete "horror movies" in the process. This game was already completed by another participant for this event. 7. (βœ…) Gothic Murder: Adventure That Changes Destiny | (NA - PS4) | Current Progress: 100% (October 30th) Murder Mystery Visual Novel set in a 19th century Manor House. Features ghost stories, seances, and discussions of the afterlife. 8. (βœ…) Vampire: The Masquerade - Coteries of New York | NA - PS4 | Current Progress: 100% (November 1st - before the event closing time) Visual Novel where you are a newly turned vampire and must navigate vampire society and politics.
  9. Update #1 - It's finally time for my first update! In the time since I made my original post, I also got access to my PS3 again. So, I've added 11 PS3 games to my list to get some use out of that system and 4 additional PS Vita / PS4 games to bring me to the total 45. So, with that in mind, my key for this - and any other future updates - is below. Like many others in this thread, I've joined the Trophies for Cancer Event. So, a lot of my thoughts about individual games are in that thread. If that is the case, I've provided a link to the appropriate post in case you do want to read my opinion on each game that I've fully completed. I'm trying to be careful with my plats, as I'd like either FF8 or Singstar XMB (PS3) to be my 100th. (FF8 is my favorite Final Fantasy and SingStar XMB has a UR plat that I only have a long song grind left for). Color Key: Green: Completed Game (This Update) (100% or Plat) Blue: Completed Game (Previous Updates) (100% or Plat) Orange: In-Progress Games (The percent change since last update is in parentheses) Purple: Newly-Added Games Black (Non-Bolded): No Change Since Last Update Committed Games (45 Games) | 0/5 Swaps Used | 3/45 Games Completed 01. 10. I'll be doing updates for all of the events I'm hosting and participating in today. So, I figured I'd get myself on the board for this one, lol. I did the Fearless DLC for Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale (PS3). It's only 1 trophy but, it's still technically a DLC pack. So, I guess it counts, lol.
  11. Update # 2 - Completed Two Pink Games @Beyondthegrave07 & @Starrk_01 Hatoful Boyfriend (PS4) | Current Progress: 100% Hatoful Boyfriend: Holiday Star (PS4) | Current Progress: 100% There's really not much to say on either of these. I personally felt that beyond the bird gimmick, both of these Visual Novels, were pretty cliche / stereotypical, with the exception of the BBL / True Ending route of Hatoful Boyfriend. That route took me by surprise and made reading through everything worth it, especially when the reason behind the presence of more sentient birds hit eerily close to home (unintentionally, I know) due what we're dealing with due to the pandemic. If you do decide to read these, you do have to read them in order (Hatoful Boyfriend and then Holiday Star) in order to avoid spoilers for yourself. Games Already Counted for this Event:
  12. More updates! First @Cassylvania congrats on finishing Spiritfarer! Your review of the game, as well as realm's, were nice reads. It certainly sounds like the gameplay is a mix of genres and certainly a unique experience. I'm not able to buy any new additional games at this time (my backlog is too big). But, I'll add it to my watch list. I've also updated the event spreadsheet as appropriate. ------------------------------------------------------- I also completed two more games this weekend. You can read my specific thoughts here. But, the holiday info for each game is below, with each holiday being listed on the main calendars found in the OP: Zuma (PS3) - This fits Old Rock Day because the atmosphere of the game is based on what appears to be ancient Aztec or Mayan temples, and you have to match tribal inscribed colored rocks / ball-like gemstones to progress in the game. Little Misfortune (PS4) - This fits Nobel Prize Day because the Nobel Prize is given in Sweden and Norway, and the developer of Little Misfortune, Killmonday Games HB, are Sweedish. O N D J 19 6 28 3 23 27 31 Holiday: Errol Barrow Day (January 21st) () Batman: The Telltale Series (PS4) 30 Holiday: Puzzle Day (January 29th) () Wordsweeper by POWGI (PS4) Holiday: Nobel Prize Day (December 10th) (βœ…) Little Misfortune (PS4) Holiday: Old Rock Day (January 7th) (βœ…) Zuma (PS3) Use a holiday primarily celebrated in Europe (Any month) 1 17 9
  13. Update # 1 - Completed two Orange Games @Starrk_01 & @Beyondthegrave07 Zuma (PS3) | Progress: 100% While this one is your standard Sparkle-like puzzle game, I was so happy to finally get this one done after more than a decade, especially since I thought the last two trophies I needed for the gaps and coins were glitched. I did everything in one sitting in Adventure mode this time, just continuing when I died, and not closing the game until the trophies popped. It worked, thank god. πŸ˜… So, that's officially one old title taken off my backlog, too. Little Misfortune (PS4) | Progress: 100% I was not expecting this one to get as dark as it did, story-wise. To be honest, if it weren't for the fact that the 50th fastest time is under 6 hours, this would have been a perfect game for the Revenge of the 13 Plats of Halloween event, due to the events of the story and the themes the game explores. (Trying not to spoil it for those who haven't played it, but are interested). But, I honestly felt like the "love story" / infatuation included was completely unnecessary on multiple levels...though there is a pretty significant plot twist that is subtlety hinted at earlier in the game in hindsight. So, I can appreciate the structure of the narrative for that. In terms of it's gameplay, this is a simple side-scrolling point and click, which I enjoy. So, this is one of those games that ended up being a bit hit-and-miss for me.
  14. I'll go ahead and join. I definitely have enough games with DLC packs to do the 10. I do have one question though, is there a specific time zone you're intending to use for the dates, such as UTC, for example? (This would make it so that everyone starts the event at the same time).
  15. Okay! Time for some updates! Firstly, congrats to @Cassylvania and @be_minor for completing more games! And, yes, @Cassylvania that was a very clever way to meet the holiday. It certainly made me smile and I applaud the creativity! πŸ€— The spreadsheet has been updated accordingly for both of you and the holidays added to the OP as necessary. _____________________________ I've also gotten my first games on my board done. I decided to scrap my initial plan and try to place games as I complete them in the hopes that I can hopefully get two cards done for this event given how big my backlog is. So, my updated card is below, with my original bingo card at this LINK. So, with that being said, I decided to go with Wordsweeper by POWGI (PS4) for Puzzle Day (Jan. 29th). The reasoning behind that is still the same as before. The game is a variant on a crossword puzzle game. I also decided to move Batman: The Telltale Series (PS4) to January 21st and use it to represent Barbados' Errol Barrow Day, which is an annual public holiday that honors Errol Barrow, the first Prime Minister of Barbados and a former lawyer as well. Telltale's first season of Batman works because Harvey Dent is both a D.A. (lawyer) and a politician, and he plays a major role in the game. There's really not much to say about Wordsweeper. It was a standard POWGI release, and the puzzles were easily solved with a guide. But, I do admit that the last 15-ish of them were a slog to get through (you have to complete all 120 puzzles for the plat). I'll save my thoughts on Batman once I've actually finished the second season (which I'm intending to use for Oct. 30th) since the two seasons feel like one complete story to me, if that makes sense. O N D J 19 6 28 3 23 27 31 Holiday: Errol Barrow Day (January 21st) () Batman: The Telltale Series (PS4) 30 Holiday: Puzzle Day (January 29th) () Wordsweeper by POWGI (PS4) 10 7 Use a holiday primarily celebrated in Europe (Any month) 1 17 9
  16. It depends on if your location observes daylight savings time. For example, I'm in the EST time zone. When it's not daylight savings time, my offset is -5. But, during daylight savings time, my offset is -4. Since the EST time zone is in daylight savings time for me right now, that would mean that 00:00 (Midnight) GMT on October 8th would be happening at 8 p.m. for me, for example. Your best bet is to bookmark that clock I shared with you and check it to make sure that you "finish" or plat any games after the official start time so it counts.
  17. Per the OP, the time zone used for this event is GMT+0. So, the event, to my understanding, starts at 00:00 (Midnight) GMT+0 on October 8th, and ends at 00:00 (Midnight) GMT+0 on November 30th. Here is a GMT Clock if you need it: https://time.is/GMT Based on that clock, it is currently 4:44 p.m. on October 7th. So, the event would start in roughly 7.5 hours.
  18. I know it's rather late. But, I think I'm gonna throw my hat in the ring for this challenge, as my backlog has become a rather massive behemoth, and I need someone to hold me accountable for actually killing it off, rather than adding to it....πŸ˜… (Seriously, it's become a problem...) I'm going to list 30 to start and then add in additional sets of 5 once those are complete. (for easy tracking on my end.) There will probably be a LOT of overlap with other events that I'm doing. But, that's okay. Anything to improve my completion % is worth it. Committed Games (Round 1 - First 30) - 0/5 Swaps Used 01. King's Quest: The Complete Collection (PS4) | Current Progress: 41% 02. 19. I also got directed to a bunch of mask advertisements. I ran the image through https://image-color.com/ and clicked on the bag and came up with an orangish-color.
  20. Of the images you shared, the only ones that have definitive pink or orange in my opinion are these two. The Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault one has a small amount of noticeable orange on either of the characters. While the Mary Skelter Finale one has a lot of pink. The Deathend re;Quest one is questionable for me. The text looks like it MAY have some orange highlighting. But, you'd have to get someone to do some color matching for you there, as the highlighting looks more red than orange to me, personally, and I confess I don't know how to do the color matching myself. It looks like it could pass for the Soap Orange noted in the OP? Anyway, I hope that helps at least a little! πŸ™
  21. Oh, this sounds great! Count me in! I'll have to keep an eye on my backlog and see what other games I have with Pink and Orange in the thumbnail that I know for sure I can get done in that time frame. But, I love the cause! My mother is a cancer survivor. So, this mean a ton to me personally. Right now, my games are as follows: Pink 1. Nurse Love Addiction (NA - PS Vita) 2. London Detective Mysteria (NA - PS Vita) 3. Punch Line (NA - PS Vita) 4. Hyperdimension Neptunia: PP (NA - PS Vita) 5. Tales of Berseria (NA - PS4) 6. Hatoful Boyfriend (PS4) 7. Hatoful Boyfriend (PS4) 8. 22. Congrats, @DoctorDrPepper & @be_minor for completing your first couple games! The spreadsheet and OP have been updated appropriately. Let me know if there are any issues.
  23. Ah, gotcha! Okay. No problem! Take all the time you need, and thanks again for taking part in this! πŸ™
  24. Thanks for joining us! Your game card has been added to the spreadsheet. And, yeah, I don't know why your 9 is appearing like that...I've never seen the generator do that before....πŸ€” NGL, it does kinda seem like it's saying to pick your November 9th holiday first, like kingofbattle8174 said, lol. Also, I'm so sorry the rules of this challenge are confusing! That wasn't my intent at all! I'm going to put a tl;dr version here in a spoiler that will hopefully help. If you're still confused let me know, and I'll try to clear things up to the best of my ability. Again, I hope that helps, and thanks for posting!
  25. Thanks for letting me know about the new games and the errors! I really appreciate it! Everything has been updated in the spreadsheet. Let me know if any other changes have to be made. And, yes, you can absolutely already start clearing games. That's no problem at all!
