#No. 218 - Wildcat Gun Machine
Well...this game sucked cat ass. This is a "bullet hell"-lite (is that even a genre?) where you play as ...this girl (I will dub her Wild Cat, she has no name) shooting alien meat monsters in an izometric space. Who are you and why you do that? Shut up, glue your finger on the R2 button and START SHOOTING!
Game looks something like this:
And really, you are simply thrown into the game, no explanation why are you doing all this. The most confusing part is when you die, you ...sacrifice a spectral cat to revive yourself. Getting back to the checkpoint obelisk resurrects the cats, which means your resurrection cats get replenished. I shit you not this is the game. There really seems like the devs threw in pure random crap in this game.
Why I called this game Bullet-Hell lite? well because it's mad easy. In fact it's so easy that you will manage to finish the game before even getting to buy half of the weaponries that are offered in the store. Yes you can buy new weapons and new upgrades...but out of all of them, I'd say 90% of them are useless while the 10% are overpowered.
The game also gives you a dash that makes you invincible for 1 second. If you manage to correctly dash at the end of your previous dash, you can link the dashes and be invincible 2 seconds. Link one more and ... you get the point. I ended up spamming the dash button and the shooting button and simply obliterated the entire game, barely dying (except the final boss who is a severe ramp up in difficulty, your dash and weapons are removed).
Thank god that I did a backup save because there are trophies that ask you to buy everything from the shop. Believe me you will have to die and reload from checkpoint a LOT in order to grind all the required currency for the useless weapons.
Overall I would say that despite the "interesting " graphics (the only good point of the game), Wildcat Gun Machine just manages to waste one's time. Don't bother, play something better. I recommend Curse of the Dead Gods (not a bullet hell but it is a good game

Congrats on the plat, Copanele. ^^
I thought this game might've been interesting with its whole "cat" thing going on, but it looks rather simple (reminds me of a cheap mobile game), and, from what you've summarized, its gameplay is rather dull too. Mmmm, not sure I'll get this one, but I may be open to trying it out for a very steep discount just because I like the genre. If you want more compelling twin-stick shooters, I'd recommend Housemarque's games, they're damn good. Two I can personally recommend myself are Dead Nation and Nex Machina. I know they have a whole slew of others but I haven't gotten to them yet.
And yeah, the genre of pew-pew-pew games has a huge variety of sub-genres: you got shmups, danmaku (or bullet hell), run n' gun, isometric shooters, top-down shooters, twin-stick-shooters, on-rail shooters, space shooters, cute 'em ups. You can also divide them whether they're horizon or vertical scrolling. Anyways, there's quite a variety to how you get to do your pew-pew-pew is what I want to say. xxD

@Honor_Hand yeah I really checked the genre now and my dear god there's a TON of them!
I...think I'll steer clear from the genre, screens filled with pellets scare me for some reason
-
@Copanele Ooh, they can be quite scary, that's for sure. I'm playing one right now and it's just...too much, lol. No idea how some people can play these games and still know what's going on the screen. xxD

#217 - Dead or School
The second weirdest game I've played this month, after Kill la Kill IF. This one is a 2D action/Hack&Slash with an underground dweller girl, Hisako, who fights zombies with the sole aim of freeing Japan and going to...school of all places. Horror indeed.
Despite the simple plot, this game is actually pretty damn good! You have a wide array of weapons to use in battling the hordes of zombies : close range weapons (katanas, buzzsaws, chainsaws, a ...guitar), long range guns (machine guns, snipers, laser rifles) and heavy weaponry (rocket launchers and particle cannons). I'd say that the game really gets deep into looting and shooting, you having to match and augment weapons who best suit your playstyle. Add to this mix a pretty developed skill tree for each weapon type and you have a pretty fun action packed game.
And you will have to really invest into weapons, because the enemies can get really challenging from the midpoint of the game onwards. A special mention to the bosses as well, they are well designed and can hit really hard if you decide to sit in one place.
Even the plot fooled me at first. All I expected was just schoolgirls and guns and that's it. But no, there was actually a pretty detailed plot in the background, it even surprised me at some points. Nothing convoluted mind you, but the story was written well enough to keep me invested from start to finish. That and anime girls
Overall, this game is way better than you'd expect. While not breaking any gaming boundaries ,Dead or School is a fun way to pass the time shooting and zombies and megazords.
Japan won't let something as silly as a zombie outbreak to stop them from going to school 😂 that's determination!

I can see the link, but still can't visit it unless I change my DNS to something else.
Nevertheless, the "Great fireWall" is coming in a few years, so changing my DNS will no longer work. 😢

Sweet! Nice completion here, Copanele! You sure had a blast playing this one. ^^
I've had my sights set on this one for a while. Even before @AihaLoveleaf praised the game, I was already sold on it. But now that you two guys have gone through it with such a glowing opinion, well damn, I really need to get my hands on it at some point. I'll be sure to do so next time I see it on sale. =D
As for the game itself, what can I say, the Japanese really love their school settings. xxD I know the motivation in this one is kinda silly, but come on, Hisako really wants to become a cute schoolgirl in the end. There's nothing wrong with that in my book. ;D Gameplay and soundtrack always looked kickass on this one. That and the premise of controlling a hot anime chick as she battles hordes of zombies and other monsters is more than enough to sell me to try this game. Here's hoping others can also give it a go, too! ^^

@Honor_Hand it's a given that you will enjoy this game
it has all it needs for a successful zombie shooting with schoolgirls
I really am curious which loadout will you use in your playthrough! Me and Aiha used completely different weapons and I can confirm that every weapon is viable in this game, depending on the build!
QuoteI know the motivation in this one is kinda silly, but come on, Hisako really wants to become a cute schoolgirl in the end
Yeah it just cracks me up how Hisako can go in the purest anime style while shooting some berzerk zombo who can't comprehend human speech "I will defeat you and achieve my DREAM to go to SCHOOOOOOOL". Maybe she heard of the legendary elite government system that is the student council in anime 😂

Street Fighter IV - Man, I've missed this game. The feel, the soundtrack, the combos, the characters...despite being 15(!!!)years old, this game holds up big time even today.
Fired up the original PS3 version for the plat difficulty challenge. I heard this version has way tougher trials than the Ultra SF4 version that I played + it has Survival & Score Attack mode.
All I can say is...Ryu Hard Trials done
Man, these combos feel way more natural and "human" after going through the absolute nightmare that was Persona 4 Arena trials. I used to be scared of Guile, but after experiencing Mitsuru...yeah double flashes ain't shit now 😂
(yes yes I know, C.Viper is the worst in this game. I will get to her, all in good time
)

Nope, I will leave her second-to-last, because I know I will get angry while going for her trial
for now I will do the rest of the characters (then leave one trial for last e.g. M Bison so I can pop the platinum as a milestone
)
I think she can count as the hardest, because I have to do the 360 like my life depends on it.
HOWEVER she's not the most awful to me. El Fuerte is (still). I HATE THAT CHARACTER!
But at least I am done with Time Trials and Survival. Man they took a LOT of time.

None whatsoever. The moment i saw her spamming cannon spikes i just blocked and lariated her ass. Also jumped over her Ultra and Lariat again.
The only one that was a headache in Survival was...Dan...his Dan kicks had priority most of the time and he would randomly raw Ultra me 😂
Also El Fuerte again, dashing around and belly slam me. But overall the modes were a complete joke
Just took a lot of time
