  1. Just wondering if anybody else thinks that arcade mode is ridiculously difficult or is it just me? I'm stuck on race 2 (Silverstone) of the intermediate difficulty, I've completed the race approximately 25 times now and can't seem to finish any higher than 5th. My best race time for the 4 laps is 7:35 while 2nd place finished in 7:28, 7 seconds over 4 laps faster than my quickest time just seems impossible. What kind of lap times were you all doing in this race and do you have any tips that could help bring my times down? I'm racing with the FXX and I've only managed to break the 1:50 mark a handful of times largely because I keep getting punted off the track by the AI when I slow down to take corners. The only "help" that I find online is "use the FXX, you'll win easily"... Arcade mode is the last thing that I have to complete in the game, everything else I managed to finish with relative ease but this one race just seems impossible...
  2. G’day mate! Welcome to the Great Australian Trophy Hunt Season 3! Basically it's an opportunity for the Australian members of the PSNP community to come together and play/discuss video games (oh and there’s also some sort of competition here too). The competition will begin at 12:00am 1st March 2018 and end at 11:59pm 30th November 2018. To be eligible to enter you must: be Australian that is listed on the leaderboard here on PSNP, have one player using your PSN ID (this will be tough to prove so as long as you don't have something like 500 games earning 7 trophies each day consistently then you should be okay) and be willing to participate in the thread (we don’t want people that are going to sign up and then never be heard from again). In an attempt to screen participants and weed these people out, you must have at least 50 posts in the forums to be considered for a spot in this competition. Scores will be updated a few days into each month, however the stats used to earn points will have a cut-off at the end of each month (i.e the first update will be in early April but only trophies earned up to 11:59pm 31st March will be considered for scoring points). This allows people some time to update their profile ready for score updates. At the conclusion of the competition, the participant with the highest number of points in each division will be declared as champions and will be forever remembered by being placed into the Hall of Fame (yes it's actually a thing). Scoring: There are 4 ways to earn points in this competition: points awarded at the end of each month for earning trophies, points awarded every 3 months for game completion percentage, backlog challenge and "fame and shame". Below is a further explanation on how to earn points in each of these methods. Earning Trophies - each trophies that you earn throughout the month will have a value equivalent to 1/10th of the points the trophy is worth on the PSNP leaderboard (i.e. bronze = 1.5 points, silver = 3 points, gold = 9 points & platinum = 18 points). At the end of the month, the total value of your trophies will be calculated and added to your overall score. Completion Percentage - at the end of every 3rd month (May, August & November) each participant’s game completion on their PSNP profile will be compared to their previous value and everybody will be ranked (for each division) based upon the largest increase for game completion percentage. 1st place = 200 points, 2nd = 150 points, 3rd = 100 points and anybody else who increased their completion percentage will be awarded 50 points. However, if your completion percentage decreases then you will not receive any bonus points (this includes the players who place 1st, 2nd and 3rd!). Backlog Challenge - each participant can nominate 10 games from their backlog (because we all suffer from this dreaded curse) that they plan to play throughout the season and earn points for completing them. Once you have named your 10 choices you won't be able to change them so pick carefully, choices must be submitted by the commencement of the competition. To be eligible for this category games must: either not appear on your profile (having not been played yet) or have a completion of 10% or less if it already appears on your profile, the game must have been released prior to 31st December 2016 and the game must have a platinum trophy (it can be a retail or digital release). You can select your backlog games from any PlayStation system! Please note that there will be a 10% bonus for backlog games you select that are from the PS3 or PS Vita. However, the 10% bonus will only apply to a maximum of 5 titles. This means that you can still pick a combination of 10 PS3/PS Vita games but only 5 games will receive the bonus, you must nominate the games you will be applying the bonus to when you submit your backlog list. Each backlog game will be worth a maximum of 400 points! The final points awarded for each game are calculated based upon rarity of the platinum trophy at the end of the month it was earned, the formula being used for calculations is 400 x (1 - rarity). Rarity will be rounded to a single decimal place and points will be rounded to the nearest .5 point. Therefore, a platinum has a 12.94% rarity will earn a total of 348.5 points (400 x 0.871 - then rounded). Nobody has ever managed to completed their backlog in the history of the competition so for anybody who achieves this almighty feat, they will be awarded a massive 1 bonus point! 😁 Fame and Shame - each month the player from each division who earns the rarest platinum will earn "fame" along with 10 points, likewise the player from each division who earns the most common trophy will earn "shame" along with a deduction of 10 points. So let me know if you'd be interested in participating in this competition and I’ll add you to the contest. Happy trophy hunting and best of luck to all contestants! 3. Reading a few of the posts in the thread from the past day or so has made for some interesting reading and something I didn't really expect if I'm perfectly honest. There appears to be a much larger undercurrent of unhappiness and disappointment regarding how the competition is being run than has ever been brought to my attention by anybody really. Sure I get small mentions of things here and there (as anybody who has ever run a competition here will understand) but it seems to be pretty much at the point that people don't appreciate the effort that is being put in. I mean over the past 2 and a bit years I've put in 100s of hours doing things for this competition and just like everyone else here I have other things that I could be doing with that time. The whole point of trying something different with the points system this year was to make people feel more like they were getting something of equal value to the effort they were putting in, hence the allocation of points for each trophy earned and the rankings at the end of each month being scrapped. Sure this was going to benefit the "volume hunters" and the point of having 2 divisions was to try an make it so everybody could "compete" with players close to their level, unfortunately we didn't any real interest from people around the level that would've put them in division 2 forcing me to throw everyone together. Anybody who actually read the scoring system would've worked out that this would've been the outcome when everybody was thrown together, since I made that announcement I've had a total of zero complaints. Perhaps the lack of interest from more casual players like myself is a sign itself that the scoring system is flawed but having a different system wouldn't have changed the outcome, the same players would've ended up at the top anyway albeit the scores on the leaderboard would've been closer. The purpose of creating this "competition" was to create a community for people to enjoy playing games together, sharing thoughts and experiences of games and just to have a bit of fun and give each other shit. That's why I continued to compete in and run an event that I was constantly at the bottom of, I never had any chance of winning nor did I have any expectations that I would be anywhere other than at the bottom. However, it has become clear that many of the people here don' appreciate what I've tried to build and would rather take things way too seriously. Anyway in summary, this competition has become something that is no longer fun to run and I have decided that I will be canceling it. There are too many other things in my life that I would get much more enjoyment from and my time would be better spent on them. Thanks to everybody that has participated in this competition over the past two and a bit years and I wish you all the best in whatever other competition is born as a result of this one being canned. All the best to everyone, I'm sure that I'll see you guys around the forums from time to time.
  4. Doing us proud at the bottom of the table boys, love it! Normally I just post everyone's backlog games in the OP but I thought that I'd do something a little bit different this year and post a few people's selected games each day for 6 days, more of a reveal type thing. So to start with we have: MattyH16, fmfab & spazza136. MattyH16: Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty (PS3) ** Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater (PS3) ** Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots (PS3) ** Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker (PS3) ** Thief (PS3) ** Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag (PS4) Broken Age (PS4) Final Fantasy 14 (PS4) Just Cause 3 (PS4) Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain (PS4) fmfab: Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One (PS3) ** Ratchet & Clank (PS3) ** Ratchet & Clank 2 (PS3) ** Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus (PS3) ** WRC 5 (PS3) ** Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham (PS4) Magicka 2 (PS4) Need for Speed Shift (PS3) Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit (PS3) Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag (PS4) spazza136: Valley (PS4) Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (PS3) ** Life Is Strange (PS3) ** Murdered: Soul Suspect (PS3) ** Sleeping Dogs Definitive Edition NA (PS4) Lego The Hobbit (PS4) Lego Movie: The Videogame (PS4) Assassin's Creed Syndicate (PS4) Sherlock Holmes: Crimes and Punishments (PS4) The Book of Unwritten Tales 2 (PS4)
  5. What the hell!? I'll just show myself out now then... Thanks to you both for the early feedback. As Matt mentioned, we'll be reviewing everything again come the end of the season and if the general consensus is that the points system is shit then we'll look to change it. What I'm taking from this statement is that my performance in this competition over the past few years has been so good that I've set the standard and have become the measuring stick that everyone is using to evaluate their performance
  6. Congratulations to all the winners (yes even feral, I'm using the term "winner" very loosely here)! I'm pretty happy with my output from this competition, a massive 91 trophies in 3 months is quite impressive. I'm also the only player in the competition who managed to earn double digits!
  7. Thanks for the vote of confidence mate, it's probably a little misplaced but I appreciate it none the less! I think that these two just recognise that I'm a better trophy hunter than you. I mean c'mon, you voted for yourself in the poll! It's almost like most people in this competition don't think that we're worthy of playing in the big leagues! I actually have no response to anybody that thinks this because it's probably true
  8. I can't wait to see how we all ended up doing for this event! Thanks again to @simpgraus for hosting the event
  9. There are people here that are actually going to compete!? I only signed up because it gives me a forum to talk shit about everyone else here, we all know that I'll earn about 100 trophies this year I think you might be onto something here, where do we keep the rum? I'm just giving everyone plenty of notice so nobody can complain if they don't submit the list and then miss out on the points. Although I do hope that you change your mind lol. This is a great strategy! Don't worry, we've all been trying to win his approval for 2 years now. One day... Looks like you have just hit the 50 post mark, so welcome to the competition! You'll need to PM me with your backlog list, nominating the platform of each game and which games you'll be applying the bonus to. In an ideal world I'd record the percentage a couple of hours into the competition so everyone has a chance to sync their profiles but I won't get a chance to do it until around 5:30 - 6 p.m. (Sydney time). Unless @MattyH16 gets a chance to do it earlier of course. I hope that everyone is ready for the competition to begin! Before we get going I just want to thanks everyone for choosing to participate in Season 3 of The Great Australian Trophy Hunt, without all of you there is no competition. Also a shout-out to Matt for helping run the competition, most of you know by now that I don't always have the opportunity to spend as much time on here or playing games as I'd like so his help is greatly appreciated. I also just want to let everyone know that we'll all be competing in a single division this year (a throwback to season 1 if you will) as most of the players here had been allocated to division 1 anyway, I only had 4 players allocated to division 2... It didn't really make sense to run 2 separate divisions. All the best for your trophy hunting this season! P.S. the ultimate battle for supremacy (and Tim Tams) will of course be happening again this year between @Feral and myself so keep an eye out for us at the bottom of the ladder! Just out of curiosity, I'd like to know who everyone thinks will win this epic dual so I'll add a poll to the thread lol.
  10. I think that I may have to declare you the winner and end the competition now, you just understand the whole concept of the competition! Thanks for the interest mate but as adam mentioned, I'm pretty strict on the 50 post rule as I'm trying to build a community (albeit one full of people with questionable gaming ability and tastes ) The rivalry this year is only going to intensify! I'll probably only play the same amount of games though lol. I still haven't really put any sort of list together, there are too many games!
  11. I would be happy to have him in the competition but he will need to make up the post count pretty quickly, I've turned other people away due to this requirement already. Everybody seems to put a lot of though into their backlog lists and then all new new shiny games come out and we forget about the old ones Or in @Feral's case, he drinks too much rum and no longer has the energy to pick up the controller For those who have posted their backlog games in the thread, please PM me with your list as it's just easier for me to find instead of going through the thread looking for a list that has been amended numerous times. Please also note that I must receive your list by 11:59pm on 28th February or you will forfeit the chance at any backlog points.
  12. Ah the dilemmas of choosing backlog games... I haven't even started to think about mine yet (I should probably get on that). I specifically designed the rules in such a way as to extract maximum frustration out of everyone, I'm a nice guy This is true, I didn't want to concede defeat in the Tim Tam battle for two consecutive years... You're a brave man, I like the fact that you're giving the backlog games and everyone else in the competition the middle finger by doing this. Well played sir, well played!
  13. Which brand are you using? It might be time for me to invest in some shares of the company if they're listed, or perhaps the retailer that you;re purchasing them from if they're not Welcome back mate! Now that adam has been promoted to Division 1 you'll have a good chance at taking out Division 2, well if you can beat feral and I that is.... Nice, it's always good to see people enjoying RPGs. Best of luck with your backlog this year, hopefully I get to award somebody with the grand prize of 1 whole point! I'd prefer them messaged to me so I can do the big revel thing like I did last year but a few have already posted them. Sorry for the lack of response to this thread over the past little while, I fell quite sick for a week recently (which sucked because I didn't actually have enough sick leave at work to cover the time I took off ) and have spent the last couple of days catching up with stuff around the house. Anyway, I'm going to set some time aside this week to try and get back on top of things here too so please bear with me for the next few days.
  14. Welcome back mate! I'm glad that Mr. PS3 himself is back! Yeah last year you dropped off a bit towards the end but it's always good hearing what you have to say about the games you play, especially because I have most of them sitting here unopened. Good question, I hadn't actually thought about it. I would have to say that unfortunately they can't be changed, so if you're going to pick games that are likely to have their servers closer this year (I'll probably do this myself) then I recommend knocking them over as soon as possible. Welcome to the competition mate! It's always good to have another completionist among the ranks, I was starting to get sick of these VN skipping, double/triple stacking, Lego playing muppets! Welcome back mate! Do you think that you'll be able to get the monkey off your back and actually complete your backlog after coming so close last year? Well if you're committed to being more involved this year then I'm happy to have you, welcome back mate! He's back, the inaugural champion and sensei of shame! Welcome! Looking at the field that's starting to gather, you'll face a bit more competition this year than in the past.
  15. Just out of curiosity, since you got a mention in my last round of replies have you been swatting away the women throwing themselves at you everywhere you go? Or are they waiting to see your name appear in the Hall of Fame first? Ah CJ, always good to have your banter around here! I think there are a few muppets claiming to be serious contenders but they must've been too young to remember the sensei of shame wiping the floor with everybody in the competition... Thanks for the interest mate. We would like to have you in the competition (we definitely need more people for Division 2) but unfortunately you don't meet the minimum post requirement. You still have some time to get a few posts by actively contributing to other threads (although don't spam them with nonsense to get your count up). Welcome to the competition mate! Your updates of current games always makes for interesting reading in simp's competition, not to mention your impressive performance so far as well. Welcome back mate! Although I have a feeling that the Tim Tams will be coming my way at the end of the season (please don't send back the ones I gave you last time)! TheWayne-o vs Feral v3 is almost upon us, I can feel the excitement of all the fans! Welcome back mate! Last season was an impressive demonstration of how to annihilate your fellow competitors in Division 2 but Division 1 is a whole different beast, I still think that you'll do relatively well though. Ugh, those backlog games... One day I'll actually get around to finishing some of them.
  16. Well my next game is Wipeout 2048 so I think you're pretty safe lol. Thanks for the score update mate! I always plan the backlog for every competition with the best intentions and then life, uh...finds a way (to ruin my plans)
  17. Thanks for the interest mate, last year you were barely active within the thread so I want to ensure that you're planning to get a bit more involved before confirming a spot for you this season. I'm not saying that you have to respond to every comment ever made here but a couple of posts a month with an update on what you're playing and what you think of the games would be nice. Welcome to the competition mate! Hopefully your performance will be slightly better than your current efforts in simp's competition! Although I shouldn't really be throwing banter like this around considering I lost my dual with feral last year in my own competition... Welcome to the competition mate! Prove away, although I'm not sure too many of the doubters will be checking in to see if you make it into the Hall of Fame. Welcome back mate! Don't worry, I've already bought a wooden spoon and have organised for it to be engraved "Feral". I'm trying to be as prepared as possible for this season! Welcome back mate! You're on fire at the moment with your haul in simp's competition, if you carry it on here then you might be near the top come the end of the year. Welcome back mate! Are you sure that you want to put yourself through that again!? Thanks to everybody showing their interest in the competition, I aim to respond to every single person who wants to join but I'm doing them in small groups at a time (you'll quickly learn that I'm a special individual and it takes me considerable amounts of time to do anything).
  18. Thanks mate! I'm not getting too carried away yet because I know that you're probably going to pop #41 soon and pull ahead again lol. Don't worry, feral is in the competition so you can't possibly finish last! 😄
  19. Welcome to the competition Ethan, I was wondering when you'd join us here in the big leagues! Welcome back spazza! Lol join the club mate, I get the feeling that I'll make my backlog list and then server closures will be announced which will largely determine what I play this year. Welcome back simp! I'm sure you've discovered that running a competition ain't a joke on here, well it's about time that you got back to just focusing on playing games and earning them trophies.
  20. Platinum #40 = Severed It just so happens to be my second backlog game completed as well, I just managed to sneak it in there before the end of the month! However, I won't be attempting backlog game #3 (Crash Bandicoot: Warped) due to the upcoming server closure of Wipeout 2048 on Vita. I'm not even sure that Team Australia will need me to earn another trophy anyway given how far we are ahead! (thanks for carrying me guys!)
  21. Glad to hear that you're looking forward to it mate! . Just finalising the last couple of things now so the new thread should be up soon, we will be starting the new season on 1st March and it will run until 30th November.
  22. G’day mate! Welcome to the Great Australian Trophy Hunt Season 2! Basically it's an opportunity for the Australian members of the PSNP community to come together and play/discuss video games (oh and there’s also some sort of competition here too). I’ve decided to overhaul the points system for this season so the competition will now be split into 2 divisions, the winner and runner up for each division will receive a custom trophy for their signature and more importantly, bragging rights! To view the first season of the competition, use the link below: https://psnprofiles.com/forums/topic/33139-the-great-australian-trophy-hunt-season-1/ The competition will begin at 12:00am 1st March 2017 and end at 11:59pm 30th November 2017. As mentioned above there will be 2 divisions, each consisting of 12 players. Participants will be allocated a division once the registrations are finalised and this will be based upon a few factors like your PSN level, number of platinum trophies, trophies earned per day, etc. Basically it’ll be split into the Vegemite Division (division 1 for people that play lots of games) and the Tim Tam Division (division 2 for people that may not get a chance to play as many games). To be eligible to enter you must: be Australian, have one player using your PSN ID (this will be tough to prove so as long as you don't have something like 500 games earning 7 trophies each day consistently then you should be okay) and be willing to participate in the thread (we don’t want people that are going to sign up and then never be heard from again). In an attempt to screen participants and weed these people out, you must have at least 50 posts in the forums to be considered for a spot in this competition. Scores will be updated a few days into each month, however the stats used to earn points will have a cut-off at the end of each month (i.e the first update will be in early April but only trophies earnt up to 11:59pm 31st March will be considered for scoring points). This allows people some time to update their profile ready for score updates. At the conclusion of the competition, the participant with the highest number of points in each division will be declared as champions. Scoring: There are 3 ways to earn points in this competition: points awarded at the end of each month for earning trophies, points awarded every 3 months for bonus categories & backlog challenge trophies. Below is a further explanation on how to earn points in each of these methods. Earning Trophies - each trophies that you earn throughout the month will have a value eqivalent to 1/10th of the points the trophy is worth on the PSNP leaderboard (i.e. bronze = 1.5 points, silver = 3 points, gold = 9 points & platinum = 18 points). At the end of the month, the total value of your trophies will be calculated and each participant will be ranked from 1st through 12th in each division. However only 1st through 10th will be awarded points (1st = 25 points, 2nd = 18 points, 3rd = 15 points, 4th = 12 points, 5th = 10 points, 6th = 8 points, 7th = 6 points, 8th = 4 points, 9th = 2 points & 10th = 1 point). Bonus Categories - game completion percentage & average rarity. At the end of every 3rd month (May, August & November) each participant’s game completion and average rarity on their PSNP profile will be compared to their previous value and everybody will be ranked from 1st through 12th in each division (largest increase for game completion percentage & largest decrease for average rarity). However, only 1st through 6th will be awarded points for each category (1st = 36 points, 2nd = 30 points, 3rd = 24 points, 4th = 18 points, 5th = 12 points & 6th = 6 points). To be eligible for this category games must: either not appear on your profile (having not been played yet) or have a completion of 10% or less if it already appears on your profile, the game must have been released prior to 31st December 2015 and the game must have a platinum trophy (it can be a retail or digital release). - Of the 10 backlog games 6 games must be for the PS3, 3 games must be for the PS4 & 1 must be for the Vita. If you don’t own a Vita, well then that’s your fault for not purchasing this excellent piece of hardware! In the event that you aren’t able to meet the above requirements for all games then you will only earn points for the games that do meet the requirements. - Points are awarded for obtaining the platinum trophy only, each participant will be awarded 15 points for an Ultra Rare, 12 points for a Very Rare, 9 points for a Rare, 6 points for an Uncommon and 3 points for a Common. Platinum rarity will be taken from the date that the next update occurs. So let me know if you'd be interested in participating in this competition and I’ll add you to the contest. 23. The goal is always to add to the wooden spoon collection! Jeez, there was no need for that Ethan! Yeah I'd go ahead and get it engraved mate, we all know that feral is going to "win" the wooden spoon . I've just been caught up doing other stuff recently. I'm planning to switch the consoles back on this weekend when the girlfriend goes out, a few hours to sit down and get in uninterrupted gaming time lol. Or perhaps I just stopped playing because Beach Buggy Racing is the pinnacle of video games and I know that I'll just be disappointed by everything else?
  24. Isn't this the reason to go out to any sporting event?
