Popular Post mcnichoj
While many games can run better on PS5, some others do in fact have issues running on PS5. Games I have tested are played off of the PS5's internal SSD. External drives have been reported to have issues on PS5 and plus that would add more variables (different manufacturers, specs, age or size of the drive, etc.) for getting proper and consistent results. Regardless how you play it's possible you can experience different or none of the issues listed at all. I plan to include videos and photos in the future. If you have encountered games with issues, it would be super helpful to provide photos and/or video of the issues you are experiencing too. I highly suggest you play the game off your internal SSD as well for best results. It's possible Sony or the developers can patch these games but I doubt that will be the case for most if any of them. Better hold on to your PS4 if you haven't got rid of it yet. I've marked special games with trophy specific issues using the secret trophy icon. Games that are currently on this list and playable off of PSNow streaming servers will be marked with the PlayStation icon. Playing the game on PSNow will avoid any issues listed here but the caveat is that you might not be able to take advantage of certain features like higher resolutions. Some of the info in this thread has been obtained from here: PS5 Backwards Compatibility: All PS4 games with benefits | ResetEra (Current total tested games listed is 566) Some of these games can have their issues fixed by reverting to a previous patched version of the game, you can read more about that process in this thread: List of Exploitable Games via Patch Reversion Games that can't be downloaded/installed/booted: Afro Samurai 2 Revenge of Kuma Volume One - Delisted and refunded/removed from some peoples download history. Fortnite - The PS4 version is not playable on PS5, trophies will auto-pop in both versions if you decide to play on PS5 and then go back to PS4 or vice-versa. Genshin Impact - See note for "Fortnite" above. Hitman Go: Definitive Edition Just Deal With It! Robinson: The Journey - This is a VR game. Shadwen We Sing PS4 Games with Known Issues: ABZU - Locks at 40fps. Agents of Mayhem - Turning on HDR crashes the game. (Game had its servers shut off, Plat no longer achievable on any console if you missed the multiplayer trophy.) Ape Escape 2 - Distorted textures everywhere during gameplay. Assetto Corsa Competizione - With 1.50 patch it has resolution issues. Baja: Edge of Control HD - Visual issues. Batman: Arkham City - Playing unpatched will allow you to play with 60FPS. (Arkham Asylum/Arkham Knight are locked at 30 on all consoles regardless if it's patched or not.) (Game is available on PS Now but you'll be playing it with the most recent patch so it will be capped at 30.) Call of Duty: Black Ops III - Reflections in split-screen are messed up. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare - (2019) Pre-rendered cutscenes may have stutter which causes audio to de-sync. Dark Souls Remastered - Lightning doesn't render properly (this is also the case on PS4 Pro but not earlier PS4 models) Daylight - Massive screen tearing and multiple momentary game freezes. Dead Nation: Apocalypse Edition - End of every campaign level crashes. Skipping the end of an Arcade runs stats will corrupt your save file. Detroit: Become Human - Most of the game runs fine but towards the end you may experience graphical issues, inconsistent FPS performance and small freezes/game judder. Closing and rebooting the game may fix the issues. Doom - (2016) After prolonged hours of playing bars appear when pulling up the weapon wheel. Dying Light - Two side missions will not appear on PS5. You can go back on the PS4 to play them with the same save file. They are needed for a trophy. Also minor occasional FPS judder. Entwined - Major visual issues during cutscenes. Fallout 4 - Visual issues on top of the screen. Ghostrunner - Max resolution of 1080p. Gravel - Turning on HDR caps FPS at 30. GRID - (2019) Small performance drops with smoke and rain. Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice - Minor glitches. King of Fighters 2000 - (This is for the PS2onPS4 version and not the ACA NEOGEO Archive port) Minor lines of distorted pixels stay on screen while you play. Knack - Minor visual issues when playing above 1080p. (Game is available on PS Now but you can't play higher than 1080p, you're better off just locking the resolution on your system and downloading the game.) Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris - Major visual issues later in the game. Lumines Remastered - Audio skipping. Mafia III: Definitive Edition - Issues with day cycles, locked at 720p. Manhunt - Text is messed up. Metal Slug Anthology - Minor pixel glitches when loading a game to play, no other noticeable issues during actual gameplay. Monster Energy Supercross - Locked at 1080p, turning on HDR locks game at 30FPS. Mortal Shell - HDR issues and save files can randomly delete themselves. Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit Remastered - HDR must be on before setting game to performance mode otherwise it can crash and possibly corrupt your save file. Need for Speed Payback - Tutorial videos stutter. Okage: Shadow King - Some distorted textures. Prey - TAA issues. Primal - Texture issues during gameplay. Rad Rodgers - Fluctuates between 60-90FPS and has screen tearing. Roundabout - Some cutscenes are missing audio. Saints Row the Third Remastered - Game is unplayable during night time if HDR is on. Sea of Solitude - Major graphical issues. UNPLAYABLE! Senran Kagura: Estival Versus - Minor visual issues. Senran Kagura: Peach Beach Splash - Minor visual issues. Shadow Complex Remastered - The disc version can't be played, only digital. Shadow of the Colossus - Some flickering floor/rock textures. The Last Guardian - Playing unpatched will allow you to play with 60FPS but enabling HDR may crash your game. (Game is available on PS Now but you'll be playing it with the most recent patch so it will be capped at 30.) The Surge - In the games settings set "lensflare intensity" to 70 or less or you'll get a giant glare glitch making it hard to play. The Walking Dead - Minor visual glitches on main menu. The Warriors - Text is messed up. Trails of Cold Steel IV - Game will hang for a short time during DLC checks like when booting up the game. Utawarerumono: ZAN - Texture glitches during cutscenes. WarHammer 40,000: Inquisitor - Martyr - Occasional minor visual glitches. Games that may need further testing: Duke Nukem 3D Anniversary Edition - Supposedly crashes a lot, I have not experienced this. Heavy Rain - Some users have reported visual/performance issues on their initial boot but usually a reboot of the game is all that's needed to fix it and the issues never return. This doesn't happen consistently with everyone so it doesn't belong in the main list but making note of it down here. Star Ocean: Till the End of Time - No issues experienced in first 20 minutes of gameplay, maybe issues further in. This was on the "bootable list" from Sony. Sword Art Online Re: Hallow Fragment - I encountered brief minor stutter during opening cutscene, not sure if more issues further in game. It received a small patch after PS5's release, may have fixed some issues. All alternate region versions of games that aren't the same region as your PS5. (One user reported not being able to boot a digital European version game on their US system. I've tested a Hong Kong digital game and a Chinese disc, both worked.) snakebit10
I haven't tried a lot of PS4 games on PS5 yet but one that has issues and it was already know is AC Syndicate. It has some kind of weird flashing but is only noticeable during day time in game. During night time you can't notice it. I would say it is still playable. I only needed a few trophies for the plat and decided to just go ahead and finish it on PS5. One thing that did happen is when I tried playing the game from my external drive it kept crashing on the title screen. once I transferred it to the SSD It didn't crash one time. Other than that I haven't had one issue with the external drive connected to my PS5.
OpenScars
Dead Nation (PS4). Every game on Endless that I've quit after dying has crashed the game and asked me to submit the error.
SeedersPhD
Man, I wasn't sure how a PS5 emulating a PS4 emulating a PS2 was gonna go but I tried Ape Escape 2 like you mentioned and man, that was rough...It's still entirely playable and you can have a good time, but textures do really like glitching out and sometimes text will just be flat out unreadable. Oof, one of my favorites on PS2
mcnichoj
Re: Hollow Fragment has a patch, I'm guessing this is to address performance or issues on PS5. It's an old game that's a port of an older Vita game so I really don't see the patch being loaded up with new content. Crysis also has a patch. I had issues running with everything with max/on but it never occurred to me to add it to my list. On default setting it runs fine. Maybe games with performance/quality modes should be their own thread and this will just be for games on default settings or obviously ones with no setting to change at all. Not gonna bother adding Cyberpunk 2077 as that's gonna get constant updates and everyone knows about it anyway.
Z1MZUM
Had no problems using external for ps4 games. Out of all of those only manhunt has a bit of screen flicker every now and then, the text is fine for me. I've played allot of PS4 games on PS5. OpenScars
WRC 5 has quite bad screen tearing, but it's completely playable. (Disc)
HuntingFever
Duke Nukem 3D: Anniversary Edition is a mess anyway and runs like shit on the PS4 so I can only imagine how badly it runs on the PS5.
Jeffboy24
Gran Turismo Sport crashed a couple of times for me while booting up and using picture in picture mode. Edited December 21, 2020 by Jeffboy24
Spacey_Dweeb
The Surge has a weird display glitch that will eventually make the game unplayable until you reboot it. However, @rwd1997 pointed out that adjusting lens flare will eliminate the problem. I've tried and tested that fix myself and it did the job!
Berzerkgod313
Not sure if this is PS5 only, but me and my buddy have had multiple crashes on PS5 playing COD: Advanced Warfare, specifically while running exo zombies.

saiyanbloodstyle
I've run a game as old as PES 2015 and it works perfectly (on disc) also the original Spelunky works without issues too, i've yet to run into any problems with the PS4 games i've tested, very happy with he backwards compatibility, even loading my old saves onto them works. Z1MZUM
I'm beginning to think compatibility with external HDD's if that's what people are using? It doesn't look like our problems are all the same. I'm using a 4tb portable for PS4 and had no issues except the manhunt flicker. One guy claimed he had trouble loading his PS4 cloud save on to the PS5. I haven't used it at all but I haven't really seen anyone else mention this problem. So maybe a one person/one time issue type of thing. On 12/22/2020 at 10:03 PM, Z1MZUM said: I'm beginning to think compatibility with external HDD's if that's what people are using? If this was the case then shouldn't I experience the least amount of issue playing directly on the HDD? I think a huge issue is that even in the launch batch of consoles from PS5 to PS5 some have slight manufacturing differences. Another variable that didn't occur to me is what resolution you're playing in. Rebooting up Okage now while playing on a 1080p monitor got me different issues as did The Warriors. Then yet ANOTHER variable to factor in is PS5 system updates. I hadn't touched my PS5 since the end of November and I know it did at least one OS system update. Maybe moving around a couple 1's and 0's magically will make certain BC games run different without having to actually patch the game. I tested another game; Senran Kagura Peach Beach Splash. Seemingly no issue during the tutorial.

DesmaBR
The campaign in Modern Warfare Remastered is unplayable on PS5. It gives this error on very specific spots in the campaign every time, making it impossible to keep playing. EDIT: It happens to me on one spot in the "Crew Expendable" mission; tried it on PS4 and it worked fine. Will keep playing on PS5 to see if it happens anywhere else Edited December 30, 2020 by DesmaBR
mcnichoj
I have COD4 installed on my PS5 but I never got around to testing it. Still I completely overhauled the rest of the thread. Mr_Tenno777
I played some PS4 games on the PS5. The games I played on there are Overwatch and Wolfenstein New Order, which played with no issue at all. Doom 2016 when played on the PS5 has a bug where 4-5 bars will appear while using the weapon wheel to swap weapons.

diskdocx
I’m not sure if it was just a bad download, and it’s a niche game, but I had a ton of problems with the Grand Tour Game on PS5. Game would randomly freeze during races for 10-20 Seconds. Happened very frequently. Often had to restart the race. I was able to plat the game but it was very painful.
mcnichoj
Removed GoW since it's getting a patch today. Added a few games. Edit: Added Division 2. See footage below from Digital Foundry, I have it time stamped if you just click play to jump to the relevant section. First it compares it to Xbox but after it goes to comparing with the PS4Pro. While still completely playable, you will lose a little atmosphere on PS5 until Ubisoft patches the game.
