Attack on Completion 2021 ( Year 4)

February Update

Forgot to leave one of these last month, I'll try to be more prudent from now on. I went into this month with 3 games on my to-do list: clean up Nier after nearly 8 years sitting at 2%, start and complete Persona 5 Royal in anticipation of Persona 5 Strikers, and try to finish that game by the end of the month. I managed to get all 3 of them done with time to spare, so I've spent the last few days clearing out some smaller games from my backlog. Highlights include Carto, a map-themed puzzle adventure that I can't recommend enough; several Artifex Mundi titles, which at this point I buy almost out of habit; and the absolute pain in the neck Bridge Constructor, which I'm happy to be rid of even if it took four years to finish.

Since my plans for this month worked out well, I'm thinking I'll set a similar 3-game goal for March and use whatever time is left over to go through some shorter titles. My tentative list right now is the EU stack of Tales of Graces f, which I haven't started, as well as inFamous and Atelier Totori Plus, both of which are wallowing in the dregs of my trophy list.

Week 8 Update

Not as productive week as I was hoping for but some good progress has been made. Completed Dragon Quest Heroes fun, until post game with became grind for items, weapons, quests, and such. The ramp up on the difficulty of post game versus the main story is a giant leap, and required looking up some very specific strategies to complete some of the post game bosses. I also managed to get the last trophy I needed to close out another DLC (Aryden episode) of Final Fantasy 15.

Monday update

Already 2 months have passed in 2021.....amazing how quickly time goes. Trophies wise I didn't made huge progress last week.

Killzone Mercenary (PSVita)

Still playing all the main missions in ' Covert', Demolition' and ' Precision' style. Almost done with that. Also playing MP games so this titles is slowly progressing in terms of trophies.

The Division 2 (PS4)

Finished Aaron Keener in the NY DLC. Must have been the toughest boss from the two Division titles. Need to work on more DLC trophies.

Lord of the Rings: War in the North (PS3)

Phoee......game glitched on me and had to re-do parts of it. I got killed and when I re-spawned there were no enemies nor possibilities to progress anymore. Luckily I already turned off the automatically saving to cloud. And I could go back to a manual cloud save (lost 2 chapters)

Another month start, another update!

Didn't end up making up for Jan's loss, but I got close. Don't plan on starting new games until I clean up a bunch of the ones I have already started (AC:O, Trine 2, Dead Cells, Iceborne, FF7R, For the King) which, when all is said and done, should net me a nice positive. The only problem is finding time to actually play them haha. Basically finished Transistor, at the last boss. I want to make it my 100th plat, so I need to get a couple more before popping that. I will probably end up starting a new Vita game this month, like I always do.

Seems we are making good progress overall! We are about 13% to our completion goal. Keep it up everyone!

Not that I mind it, but I'm really feeling like I put my target too low and I might end up hitting it half way through the year - maybe I should have aimed for 80%.....

February was a good month for progress though - I finished a few older backlog games that I've been meaning to go back to, Thief and Tales of Zestiria are up to 100%, Disgaea 4 will be very soon as well so I've gotten a good bit of additional % from that. I also finished the only new game I started in Feb (Telltale's Batman), while it's not a difficult one it all adds to the completion!

No reason you can't make it a personal goal once you hit your original 75% target.

Yeah, to add to the above, I'm on course to hit my target only about half way through this year assuming I maintain the current rate of progress. If I hit 60%, I will be gunning for 65% next!

Monday update

Update and recap of the past week..

Maneater

So.... I finished up Maneater this week. The underwater worlds were well done and most regions were different enough that I never got bored with exploring. The collectibles were fairly easy to find with upgrading the shark sonar and most were got just by exploring anyways. A few weren't accessible until gaining a certain shark size but being able to fast travel back to any region made this no big deal. The game was a lot of fun and was refreshingly different from most games Ive played lately. I'm not going to lie it was pretty satisfying to level up to Elder and be able to thrash those pesky gators to bits that were such a pain early on. It also made me laugh every time jumping out of the water and bouncing across the beach to snack on sunbathers. The only bad I can give this game is that it was too easy and didn't offer much in the way of challenge past baby shark stage but I guess they don't call the shark an Apex Predator for nothing.

The Gardens Between

Breezed through this game in an evening but the concept was pretty neat. Its basically a sidescroller puzzler but each level rotates as you go. Its also got some time manipulation in order to solve the puzzles but its hard to explain and would be much easier to check out gameplay videos instead. I liked it for what it was but YMMV.

We Were Here

Already had this platinum from last week but decided to play through it again with another friend and help them with it. It wasn't as much fun the second time round as I remembered most of the puzzles so it went very quick. I will definitely be picking up the next 2 games and working through them blindly again.

The Playroom

Knocked the last trophy I needed out with my kids on the weekend. It only took a couple tries to learn where we needed to be to make sure we cleared all them pesky ninjabots from the level.

The Playroom VR

My kids also helped me with this one as some of the mini games need 2 or more people to complete. They had a great time and really thought the VR was a cool experience. Its now complete and I'll likely move on to Astro Bot Rescue Mission and Astro's Playroom.

Abzu

Started on this one last night and made it through the first chapter but was too exhausted from a busy week/weekend to play much more. I'll finish this one up sometime during this coming week as it is fairly short.

I ended up starting too many bigger games and not finishing them yet this month, but I at least went back and finished up a few plats from PS3. God of War I/II weren't too bad, but the ICO speedrun was fairly frustrating as the escort NPC can do some really dumb things at times. I also learned that it's possible to delete 0% games from your trophy list and I was very sad to see that PSNP already didn't count those towards average. Oh well, at least the list is a bit cleaner now! Sometime in March I'll hopefully get back into Nioh and Control to push them to plat (and likely beyond).

Woah this is so cool! Guess I can't join in by now? ? I came back to trophies after playing FF7R last earn and slowly regaining my interest in trophies as the game went by (I've being away from it for many years, a shame cause I lost the opportunity on many plats) and this year I want to clean quite a chunk from my backlog, just even reinstalled my PS3 and finished Infamous festival of blood this week, so it would be fun to participate too if still possible.

My current % is 51.95% and with 5% that would mean 56%, didn't thought about a target but I'll say 60%

I really need to go back and finish MHW so I can finally increase my percentage by a decent amount, but I just started Super Meat Boy (I want to make it my 100th plat) which will probably take me a while to complete. In the meantime I'll probably finish Shiren the Wanderer on my Vita, which I've been playing on and off for well over a year. Both of these games will take me a while, so I expect my percentage to increase very little this month.

On a personal note, I probably won't achieve February levels in March. I'm going to be adding at least one new game to my list (possibly more if Disco Elysium releases this month as planned). But I made a promise to not be too hard on myself as long as I'm not losing percentage.

I was originally down for the week thanks to starting Forager, but I made enough progress in a couple other games to get even. And then I played Forager so much that I ended up gaining .25% Not huge, but better than being negative.

Games played this week:

Donut County - Bought it in the Indie Sale. Cute, short game that took about an hour to plat.

Persona 5 Strikers - Just past the 6th Jail. Stalled on this when I started Forager, but I'm focusing on it again to make sure it's my 75th Plat.

Limbo (PS3) - Working on this for the Ultra Rare challenge. Got all the hidden eggs and beat the secret area, but I'm stuck on the 5 death run. Gonna try again this weekend.

Forager - Tried this for the Kill Your Completion event and it took over my life for the last 6 days. I only need 4 more trophies in the base game and then the 3 Nuclear Update ones.

So I accidently started Rachet & Clank on PS4, because I forgot the one I already started was the PS3 All 4 One game. I was pretty mad when I realized what I did.

My PS4 slim freaked out one day a couple weeks ago and started doing a safe mode loop and resulted in me losing the save files for Batman Enemy Within, Final Fantasy 15 and Control.

Normally this wouldn't be a problem because of PS+ backing up the save files. Except the PS4 Slim is in my truck and doesn't have 24/7 internet and I forgot

to manually upload those save files. So, I lost several hours of each game. The biggest loss was Control. I would've got the platinum for it already if this didn't happen. Very upsetting.

The good thing about having an already low completion percentige is when I do start a new game, it only goes down like .15%. So, it's not that hard to get back what I've lost.
My PS5 should be here next week. So, I will be starting several new games that I've been specifically waiting to play on PS5.

The PS5 will also be the reason I finally play some more PSVR games that I've already started and some I haven't. Performance is just better when it comes to loading and some have had resolution patches, which is why I just put them on hold for the time being.

Overall it was a pretty good month and a half for chipping away to the 50% goal. I'm sure I'll add a few platinum's this month, but no clue what they'll be. As you can tell from my list, I have no plan. I just play whatever.

The one thing I find weird about this site though is the completion percentage itself. Here I'm at 45.5%. But, over at TrueTrophies it says I'm at 48.3%. Almost 3% higher for the same trophy list.

Also played through and got to 100% the Original Ratchet & Clank on PS3, decided I'm going to try and the entire series. I've already previously done the original trilogy on the Vita, and the remake. (Do yourselves a favour if you decide you want to play the trilogy, play them on the ps3, the Vita versions are a bit harder, due to the controls).

Next on my list will be R&C 2, 3 and probably deadlocked, then I'll probably do something differant before coming back for the rest of the series.

I also have a wek off work coming up, so considering having a proper go at doing Mein Lieben (*Shudders*).

They calculate it differently. TrueTrophies has a formula of total trophies earned divided by total trophies available. With that each trophy is weighted equally and platinums count towards your completion. On here the formula is total trophy XP earned (minus plats) divided by total trophy XP available (minus plats) to be the same as the formula used to determine completion for each individual game and that gives more weight to gold and silver trophies over bronze and games worth more trophy XP have a bigger effect on your completion than ones with very little.

Also it should be mentioned that low completion doesn't have any effect on the amount each game affects your completion since you commented that it did. The effect on your completion is determined by the percentage of your total available trophy points the new game would be worth. So the more games with a lot of XP, the less of an effect each game has. Adding a non-plat game with only a few trophies will have less of an effect than adding a game with a plat as well.

TL,DR: Another week goes by with peanuts to show for trophy progress due to a RNG experience that has boiled over my frustration into the realm of pure anger. Went to bed last night absolutely frustrated and woke up today with this sarcastic attitude of "welcome to another day of rolling the dice to see if I can get a single crown". Lord help me. The last platinum trophy I earned was over 3 months ago now. I wanted a memorable #50 and Monster Hunter World is going to be a memorable one alright... for all the wrong reasons, explained below.

I am going to be honest with you all, I am insanely burnt out. I have spent this entire week going after Namielle (one of the Monster Hunter World: Iceborne elder dragons) and failing to obtain her large gold crown... and I still have 7 other monsters to go after her that require the same levels of "luck" to RNG their crowns.

Literally spent all of last night, from 6pm-1am (which has been a recurring theme this week) going after her crown and NOT getting it... again. I've been close so many times it's not even funny. Last night I had several 15 minute kills where the results told me I was within 2 measuring units shy of her gold crown (2498.67 and I believe at this point her gold crown starts at 2500 units big), which basically broke me.

Loading up a mission, staring at loading screens for 2-3 minutes between runs, running up to the monster and trying to measure how tall I am compared to it, thinking it's large enough, doing a 12-15 minute battle only to have the game tell me "nah, you're THIS close"... because, you know, there's no way to actually tell how large it is without killing it... then repeating 2-3 minutes of LOADING SCREENS before I can load up another mission, stare at loading screens, find the monster... with a 3% chance that the monster is actually going to be the large gold crown? Hours... and hours... of loading screens, and podcasts, and Kitchen Nightmares/Hotel Hell/Maury/Steve Wilkos/Road Rage compilations... I'm.. so... over it.

I am not having fun anymore, this grind is absolutely killing me. If not for the stubborn bullheadness to want to see these games be #50 and #51 as worthy milestones, I'd have taken a break so long ago. I'm almost doubly pissed now that these plats aren't ultra rare as a nail in the coffin, but whatever.

Currently the game says I'm at 360 hours played, but between all the save scumming I've done I'm easily at 400+ hours now, easily. I'd be much more happy if the game made you powerful enough so I could at least shut my brain off when I get to the fighting portion, but it doesn't. Several times I've actually FORGOTTEN how to fight because it takes you hours and hours to actually find one large enough that you THINK is the right one, that the controls just go out the window for me.

I know that there is many other plats that are more time consuming (Necrodancer, Fortnite, Last Hope) or skill based (Super Meat Boy, Wolfenstein, etc) but my goodness. Never have I come across so many layers of RNG that have completely soured a game for me like MHW has. It's not even skill based, it's just pure and utter garbage. If there was ever a game that is making me question why I am trophy hunting, I have finally found one. Last Hope was 10x better of a grind than this game. At least you can become uber OP in that game and shut your brain off.

yea... The mhw rng is terrible... I'd recommend playing other games. You can always save one trophy so you don't pop the plat and save your milestones. GL...
