Your opinion about female Twitch streamers

39 posts in this topic

Posted (edited)

I think all streaming is stupid so it isn't a female/male thing with me. Why would I watch someone I dont know play a videogame badly while trying to be "funny".

There are very very few Youtube people I actually watch and lately that number was brought down to just 2 as even Zero Punctuation has begun to get really hard to watch.

I now only watch Phelous (who I have been watching since 2010) and Pitch Meetings on Screenrant.

So to answer your question about why attractive women would go on twitch? Because it makes them money. It is no different than why attractive people become bartenders or waiters...take away tipping and trust me they would all quit those jobs in a second.

Shallow men will always chase shallow women. If it makes you feel any better I’ve seen many of your posts and imo you’ve got a hell of a lot of substance and courage.

You should feel like the woman this song is dedicated to.

First of all, you should talk to your bf about it and say he shall stop.

If it already bothers you that much, he either will agree with you or not.

2nd you are not the only one who is not happy about it, but that's how life is.

There are people who like Digimon and there are some that don't.

You have options how to deal with this:

1. Live with it and try not to care about it as much. There are deeper things to care about.

2. It's 2021, so get offended by them and report this to Twitch/ect...

3. Watch a hot male streamer to show your bf how it feels, evillaughingface.

4. Become a streamer yourself

Just suggestions.

There are ofc many more options, but in the end, you know what's best for you to decide.

It's the internet, so you know how it is.

this is the danger of social media - it makes girls who dont feel as attractive even worse.

as a guy i similar feel it applies for guys too - white guys tend to get more love and attention than ethnic guys.

at the end i switch off it all. screw them. i'll enjoy my life in other ways, like simply playing the game for me and me only!

Couldn't care less. I don't have time to waste watching other people trying to be funny.

I have to say this is probably the best advice.

Because let us not beat around the bush...the reason guys like channels like this is because it is "porn" that they can get away with. I know there isn't actual any nudity but you get to stare and interact with a hot girl and you don't have the stigma of porn or the rejection of trying it in real life.

If your BF is actually interested in the content, that is one thing but if he is just doing it because she is hot then that is a form of cheating and you have the right to confront him about it and make your feelings known.

Oh haha thanks I didn’t expect this. I always think people might think my opinion is over the top/dramatic. I tend to overthink so...

Oh yeah I spoke to him about it and everything is fine. But I don’t forget this stuff, now and again I would think about it for example when I see one of the people I follow make a video with a famous female streamer then I also just think “ugh” and don’t watch the video. And as soon as I find a chill respectable female streamer, as soon as you go to her instagram its just filled with “look at how fit I am and look at how big my booty looks by arching my back so much it almost cracks” pics which immediately just changes my view of that woman.

There are indeed deeper things to care about. It just occurred to me so much, I had to see other people’s opinion. And tonight was just another moment where I thought about it, lol.

Oh yeah I tease my bf by saying how hot Johnny Depp is but it doesn’t affect him or he doesn’t show at least haha I do it in a funny way though

Yeah it does. I mean before I made this thread I found similar posts about girls finding this subject annoying, especially when their boyfriend would be watching them, but not to “my extend of annoyance”. They would be pissed off with their boyfriend watching titty streamers or watching females every single day, my bf doesn’t do that. But even doing it once, triggers me.

I never heard that opinion before btw. Over here where I live, people tend to be more attracted to non-white people (it became like a weird trend to have mixed kids too like tf). My female friend used to feel the same as you but she has also accepted herself and you should too! There is a person for everyone.

Male here, and I agree with you. I've had the exact same thoughts and frustrations regarding all those things.

Something just happens with male players, when a female player enters the lobby. It's ridiculous and quite cringy. I guess that's just an unfortunate side effect of being "biological beings" 😂 well, and immature.

It's also unfortunate that a female streamer will ALWAYS initially be judged by her looks by heterosexual male viewers, but I do think that most of them will stay beyond that for her commentary, gameplay etc., if they do like her style. Eventually, an interest in the streamer's personality will overtake that initial "Oh my god she's pretty"-thing that made him click the video. I BELIEVE.

I mean, this isn't really true. You're generalizing. One of my favorite streamers is ZeplaHQ. A female streamer who is a hardcore raider in FFXIV. She doesn't sexualize herself in any way and very clearly loves FFXIV. I found her because I found her content on YouTube where she made some funny skits about the game. For a long time, she didn't even show herself on camera. Now she does a lot more, but the fact that she's a girl doesn't matter in any way.

Women have been using their sexuality to make money and advance themselves for years. There's plenty of examples in basically every form of media. But not every woman does that, and there's plenty of successful women who aren't considered classically good looking. A couple examples that come to mind are Sarah Silverman and Kristen Schaal.

It's really just easier for attractive people (yes people, not just women) to gain popularity. This is in part because of basic psychology. People are far more willing to trust an attractive person than an unattractive one.

But there's plenty of normal people out there who have found success on platforms like Twitch. Focusing on the few that reinforce a stereotype is what's really harmful. Both to your own mental health, and to the platform.

As a lady gamer myself, I'd say that a lot of the problem here just lies with your own jealousy, personal insecurities and pre-conceived ideas about other women gamers.  I definitely feel you should work on your self confidence and not measure yourself against other people.

Overall, Twitch, YouTube and streaming platforms are over saturated with content that it's difficult to get noticed - regardless of whether you are a guy or a girl.  I have several guy friends who put out great content but they barely get over 12 people watching their streams.  I'd even say it's probably harder for male gamers to get noticed on streaming platforms,

Now I will say I actually enjoy some of Valkyrae's content, outside of her being a "pretty face" she's also funny and makes pretty decent content  I'm curious to if you have watched any of the content some of these lady gamers have put out?  Or if you're just immediately hating on them solely for being pretty?  Remember these ladies didn't get successful overnight, they've actually put in the hours of making content.  You're not going to be immediately successful from doing one or two streams.

Do you think that your views on meeting other lady gamers online might come from a place of "only girl syndrome"?  I mean you already said you have some stereotyped ideas about girl gamers so I imagine you're immediately on the defensive when meeting one online.  You need to know though that we're not terrible, we're not trying to steal your BF or flirt with your guy friends - we're really just the same.  Trying to play a bunch of games, have fun and maybe make some friends.  If you offer an olive branch out maybe you could develop some healthy, organic friendships with other girl gamers and it would help you in the long term.

Yeah I’m just immediately disliking them without having watched the content. I scrolled through their instagrams and felt a despise for them. And yeah I stereotype female gamers but like every single one that I met did exactly that. They either flirt and try to act quirky, want male attention, like to be in the center. Its just so fucking annoying and I have not met a single woman on Playstation who does not do this. I mean, for example, me and my guy friends were all playing and this new girl joined in and instead of acting normal she starts singing in party chat like an angel and suddenly the dynamic of our group changed, suddenly my guy friends acted so differently as if they all got a boner from it. Everyone had to introduce themselves to her which never happens when a new guy joins in, it really bothered me because just why treat her like a queen and a guy not like a king? This never happened with new guys. But with this random new chick they suddenly started drooling, disgusting. Its just bullshit to me and I quickly left the chat after that. You are right though, I do get defensive straight away when there’s another female in the chat and somehow they always find a way to annoy me. And you know what’s funny? Well not really funny but you know what I mean. I have like this whole complex about disliking females on Playstation very quickly or instantly and then I get to hear from my friends that the female likes me. And then I kind of grunt and feel bad waaah

But yeah I’m aware of needing to work on insecurities etc.

I mean it's bad that some of these gals (i think its Pokimane, not 100% i actually dont watch streamers) are almost certainly playing up to the lonely/neckbeard/beta/addstereotype crowd.

That said i have no problem with them making money in any legal way they choose.

Im at an impasse. Sorta.

Hmm. Sooo basically we need to re-educate people in particular all them nerd stereotypes i sadly mentioned before. About women, dating, socialising, other forms of entertainment and free porn on the internet.

If they wanna give money to streamers after that, so be it.

Crude but eh...

I think the main problem is the viewers and the platforms who are giving streamers with zero talent the money and recognition for sitting in a chair for hours mindlessly mumbling chat messages for a few dollars. But it's basically a product of supply and demand: People go to Twitch for low quality content, and there is lots of supply! Also lets be honest, it's easy to have no talent but just look good on camera, but extremely difficult to be talented on camera. There is hope out there, for example Codemiko is an extremely talented and an actually entertaining female streamer, but people like her are unfortunately few and far in-between, especially on sites like Twitch, which really isn't a game streaming site anymore if we're being honest

As far as online lobbies? That's always just been the norm in online gaming on my opinion - people are always trash talking anyone and everyone they hear in chat and you really don't know what to expect, especially with games like Call of Duty. I always thought it was funny that there was an expectation that as soon as a girl entered the lobby that everyone should stop all the trash talking and name calling each other and all of a sudden be different than the wierdos they've been xD Not gonna happen, game chat is game chat. My advice has always been to trash talk them back, point out what they're doing sarcastically, and have fun and embrace it. Funny enough I've made lots of great friends that way over the past decade. There's the flirty and goofy people you mention too in game chat, and I would just point out how goofy they are being, typically they'd laugh and just say you're right

Best thing to do to resolve that is have good group of friends to play with and watch and support good content

I really don't have an opinion on female streamers, as I don't watch any. Not saying that because I avoid watching them, I watch streamers based on the game I am interested in watching and then whether or not they are interesting/entertaining. I think I only follow five streamers. 😁

The main issue I think the OP is dealing with, is that streaming video games is not longer a niche market. The pool of both male and female is larger along with the viewers...thus leading to more bad apples. I've seen hardcore male gamers playing hardcore games getting into fights with their chat on what's the "right way to play" or for not being good enough.

Sounds like the problem lies with the male gamers.

Come on, it's not as simplistic as blanket blaming a certain demographic.

I'm not going to talk about streaming because in all honesty I've never been remotely interested in it, so I really only have one piece of advice: talk to your boyfriend. Maybe explaining your opinion and how you feel will open up a conversation in which you two can bounce your different perspectives off each other. Might open both your eyes to how or why the other does or watches what they do.

There’s very few Let’s Players/streamers I bother with.

In my opinion, PewDiePie, Markaplier and JackSepticEye never should of gotten famous. None of them are talented. PewDiePie was just there at the right place at the right time. He got big because he covered some obscure horror games and made childish screams and sex jokes. The kids caught on and he became the #1 most subscribed YouTuber.

DarkSydePhil is even worse. How he even got anywhere on Youtube is beyond me. He’s a despicable piece of shit who plays horribly in every single game he does, screams and yells. Blocks any criticism at him making it virtually impossible to have any means of communication with him. So I don’t bother.

The people I do watch include Angry Video Game Nerd and Angry Joe. James Rolfe is still entertaining to watch, he doesn’t ridicule his audience. Angry Joe, while I don’t think he’s nearly as good as he used to be, can still make a good review.

Unfortunately for every good streamer/Lets Players there are at least a bunch of bad apples.

A lot of girl streamers use their good looks and tits to draw viewers. That’s not talent, that’s not caring about the gaming hobby, that’s a cheap attempt for attention and money. iJustine did this for a good while, she used her bandwagon fans to help her make more money off of a useless YouTube gaming channel.

The real problem is it’s all overly saturated. Any no talent hack can make a gaming channel, throw in a webcam and play a game. James Rolfe stood out because he was one of the first. Now he’s not all too different than a thousand other guys in their 30s and 40s covering games.

I don't really watch streamers, but hating on female streamers for being cute and saying "it's the only reason they made it" seems unnecessary.  Now if they're peddling sexualized content... sure, I think that proving any more successful in the mainstream than honest effort is a step back for female gamers and females in a seemingly male-dominated industry who just want to play and work honestly.  Is there a male equivalent to "titty streamers"?  (Is that the proper lingo? lol)

With the way streaming has grown... just like Hollywood celebs... the attractive, marketable people have a leg up.  Or at least those who clean up well.  The people who don't fit that bill have always had to rely more on being funny, creative and actually working for their success.  It's just the unfortunate truth.

Looking at my follow list, most of them aren't male. The thing is I, and I'm sure this is true of others, don't actively seek out streamers based on their gender. More, I'm looking for someone interesting to listen to while I putter around on Steam or some other task that's going to keep me near my PC. With the inclusion of some friends who I'll chat with while they stream. I've found many games I've otherwise wouldn't have looked at or known about just from spending some time with a good conversationalist playing over it.

Well, it was interesting to see many different opinions. It definitely gave me some more insight. It didn’t change my opinion much (yet...?) but I get where people are coming from and I will keep it in mind. Thank you all and also for being understanding!

IMO, if a guy wants to watch a pretty girl streamer, it's fine. And if a girl is attracting viewers by being cute and hot, it's also fine. Just don't break the TOS.

If a guy donates insane amounts of money because a female streamer says his name and smiles, it's the guy's fault. Should be smarter than this.

20 hours ago, LoveInHell said:

they take their attractiveness to their advantage

I'm pretty sure some male streamers do that too.

Quote

no one clicks on these girls for the game that they’re playing. They are clicked on for their pretty face

Yeah, well, viewers find streamer through games, or because they see a pretty face, but ultimately stay for the personality. If the streamer is a good entertainer, the games they play, or their appearance become less relevant for the regulars. But between a funny streamer or a funny and cute streamer (and there are plenty of those, too), people will probably always choose the latter, that's just how things are.

On the other hand though, there's something to be said about the nude models that use Twitch to promote their Patreon/Onlyfans where they sell adult content. One - it's kind of shady, it's some kind of a grey territory, because this content is not allowed on Twitch. And two - some of them don't even care about games really. Although Twitch is more than just a platform for games nowadays, you can now stream yourself doing squats and be fine.
