[Video] Demon's Souls - Platinum Speedrun - Everyman's Guide

Hey everyone,

I've got another sorta platinum speedrun here, routed from a beginner's perspective, hence the extra title of 'Everyman's Guide' ('walkthrough' doesn't really say much nowadays!!). This comes in at approx 8 hours, it can be done quicker, but because i'm trying to keep it easy'ish as well, I lose some time because of that, and NO glitches used as well.

 

The video's are all commented, we use the Super Hyper Mode build and I do A LOT OF THINGS differently to the general routes most follow, like the TG and TW here. For an example, I do 3-1 first, then 1-2, suicides along the way are actually done in world 3, then after 1-2, we go and do 3-2 but in PB at the same time. By the time we get to 3-3, we already PW, but have already done the PB stuff there already, doing 3-3 next gets us one of the biggest boss killer spells for our SHM build, bosses will go down in 2 hits eventually!! This just a brief example of what you can expect, we do similar routes to this in all worlds, efficiently using everything!!

 

In 1-1, we also kill Ostrava, BUT we headbutt him into the fire, gets us the key, but DOESNT count as a CT kill so all is good, we then don't have to worry about his stupid questline.

 

Above are just a few examples of what you can expect, so you can decide if you wanna follow this, or follow another!

 

What is Hyper Mode?

This is when you use certain equipment that gives you a increase in attack when your health is below 30%. This sounds really risky, but when built right, you can do literally approx 10 x as much damage. Use this as a Mage and you can kill almost all enemies before they even notice you or get chance to attack!!

 

Below you will find the videos, along with a sort of checklist beneath so you can reference anything important we do in that part. I do collect a few optional things along the way, such as healing items for you guys to begin with, but mostly we just sprint through grabbing only important stuff and killing troublesome enemies that can be difficult for beginners to get past or escape from.

*PLAY OFFLINE* 

 

PART 1 CHECKLIST

- Pick Type A Female (optional, but will allow you to equip the Silver Bracelet later which rewards you more souls).

- Pick Royalty Class.

- Fragrant Ring (1/30, Royalty starts with this).

- Pick Providential Ring (2/30).

- Tutorial area.

 

1-1

- Cut chain.

- Unlock 1st shortcut.

- Get Cling Ring (3/30).

- Get 2 x Aged Spice and Old Ragged set

- Get Jade Hair Ornament.

- Get Thief Ring (4/30).

- Kill Ostrava by headbutting (very important) him into the fire.

- Get Mausoleum Key drop from Ostrava above.

- Get Scimitar.

- Get Purple Flame Shield.

- Get Flame Resistance Ring (5/30).

- Get Ring of Great Strength (6/30).

- Get Archstone Shard x 2.

- Unlock Boss door.

- Get Pine Resin x 4

- Kill Phalanx (use pine resin on scimitar, then two-hand it and just run up and spam attack) (W1+30%)

- Get Lead Demon Soul.

 

NEXUS (don't suicide)

- Talk to the Monumental and select YES!! Very slowly advance the dialogue after the custcene.

- Get Stone of Ephemeral Eyes.

- Buy Flame Toss from Freke's Apprentice and assign it.

- Level Magic to 17 (SL5).

- Talk to Stockpile Thomas, then leave and talk again and give the Jade Hair Ornament.

- Get Ring of Herculean Strength (7/30).

- Kill Tower Knight without killing the archers (stay on the steps, strafe left and right and when the knight fires magic, move to the bottom and cast your own to his hollow head, repeat) (W1+30%)

- Buy Cloak from Freke's Apprentice and assign it along with Flame Toss.

- Kill black phantom Rydell (CT+20%).

- Make your way to the altar  in the boss area to get transported to 3-2.

- Free Yurt and headbutt him off the platform.

- Kill Maneater, use Soul Ray and dodge his attacks the best you can, you can bait them around the central brazier, but beware their lunge. This is perhaps the hardest boss we can't really cheese, going forward, almost all bosses afterwards can be cheesed and will die in a few hits, this is the only one which takes a bit of practice (W3+45%).

*QUICKLY EQUIP THE RING OF AVARICE AS SOON AS YOU KILL THE BOSS FOR MORE SOULS, DO THIS FOR EVERY BOSS GOING FORWARD*

- Kill black phantom Satsuki, he will go for you as soon as you spawn, cast cloak so you don't aggro the skeleton ahead and don't go to near. Now black Satsuki with the Buckler Shield until you get into Hyper Mode, then kill him with 2 x Homing Soul Arrows (CT+20%, now at +40%)(W4+90%).

- Get Talisman of God.

- Get Soul Remains x 6.

- Get Crescent Falchion +1.

- Get Copper Key.

- Kill Vanguard Demon.

- Free Graverobber Blige and talk to him, buy Soul Remains x 10.

- Get Regenerator's Ring (13/30).

- Get Graverobber's Ring (14/30).

- Kill the Adjudicator, stay on the top floor, attack from the ledge with magic, when you hear the bird tweet, move back until he attacks where you just were, then resume a position near the ledge and attack again till you hear and tweet and repeat. He will die in 1 or 2 hits if using Hyper Mode and the Homing Soul Arrow (W4+45%).

- Get Stone of Ephemeral Eyes.

- Get Official's Gloves (Fat Official on platform above the gate lever drops these).

- Unlock gate via lever.

- Ed's Sharpening Stone x 2 (ICOE).

- Unlock Blacksmith Ed via lever.

- Cross lava pit, to do this, equip the Cling Ring, Flame Resistance Ring and the Purple Flame Shield. Make sure your health is full, then walk across with the shield up and roll once to the steps ahead when within rolling range to reach (Video Timestamp).

- Get Official's Leggings (Fat Official after the lava pit drops these).

- Get Kris Blade (have this equipped in your other hand when casting magic for extra damage).

- Kill Armor Spider, if you use Cloak before you enter, you can get really close to the boss before it sees you. You can also stand by the curved part of the wall to the left just before the boss, web can hit you here, but not fireballs so you can easily cheese him with your magic

- Get Hard Demon Soul.

 

2-2

- Kill lizard.

- Kill black phantom Scirvir, he is really easy to kill if you use Soul Remains to distract him, then use Hyper Mode Homing Soul Arrow (CT+20%, now +60%) (W2+90%).

- Get Talisman of Beasts (Scirvir drops this) 

- Use Evacuate Miracle to warp back (IT'S OK NOW).

 

NEXUS

- Level Strength to 10 (SL53).

- Kill lizard.

- Kill lizard x 2.

- Get Hands of God x 2 (keep these with you).

- Kill Flamelurker ( 2 x Homing Soul Arrow in Hyper Mode will kill him).

- Get Searing Demon Soul.

- Level Vitality to 18 (SL55).

- Kill the Dragon God, during the last phase (3) when he is almost defeated, equip the Hands of God in each hand and finish him with those (to easily beat the Dragon God, ALWAYS hide behind pillars and destroy debris with your magic safely from a distance, if you are visible for more than a second or 2, he will likely kill you).

- Get Master's Ring (17/30) (near the 2nd ballista).

- Get Legendary Warrior Soul.

- Get Dragon Demon Soul.

- Level Vitality to 20 (SL57).

- Kill lizard.

- Give Blacksmith Ed the Searing Demon Soul (talk/leave until asked).

- Upgrade Short Sword as much as possible (max +8) with what Large Shards/Chunks you have, the Filthy Man above sells basic Hardstone Shards for 500 each.

 

2-2

- Kill lizard.

- Get Official's Clothes (Fat Official just left of archstone drops this).

- Kill lizards x 2, at the bottom of the lift.

- Kill 2 x black phantoms to get Stone of Ephemeral Eyes x 2.

- CAREFULLY assault the lizard nest and kill approx 10 x lizards and loot them all (this should net you the remainder of what you need to upgrade the Short Sword to +8, the basic Shards come from the Filthy Man).

 

2-1

- Upgrade Short Sword +8 (no higher, if you need to, assault lizard nest again or consume normal souls and buy basic shards).

- Craft the Morion Blade (crafting this means we must do World 4 in NG+, but this is the weapon that allows you to enter Super Hyper Mode and makes you a beast. The time spent completing world 4 in NG+ is offset by the time this will save and then some! You will now one-shot most bosses and can kill most mobs with 1-3 firesprays xD).

 

2-2

- Get a Gold Coin (farm the Fat Official around the corner, kill him quick with 1 x Homing Soul Arrow, then jump down the elevator shaft to respawn).

 

NEXUS

- Talk to Sage Freke and craft Firespray, then attune this along with HMS and Cloak (Firespray is a beast in Super Hyper Mode).

- Give Satsuki the Makoto, make sure you have it in your inventory unequipped. Close app after trophy pops quickly without opening inventory or picking up items in order to spawn before and get Makoto back DO NOT KLL HIM as it will knock down your WT.

 

5-1.

- Get Istarelle

 

NEXUS

- Level Vitality to 23 (SL72).

 

5-3

- Kill Maiden Astraea WITHOUT killing Garl Vinland.

- Get Ring of Sincere Prayer (25/30)

- Get Pureblood Soul.

 

NEXUS

- Buy all Miracles requiring soul currency (not boss souls) from Saint urbain.

- Buy all Magic requiring soul currency (not boss souls) from Sage Freke.

- Buy Recovery spell from Saint Urbain, costs Colourless Demon Soul x 3, we will get more shortly but you should have enough.

 

4-2

- Farm the black skeleton above the 4-2 archstone, or the one further below behind the illusory wall until you get 1 x Pure Bladestone.

 

NEXUS

- Make sure you have the Gold Mask, Pure Bladestone, Gold Coin and Talisman of God in your inventory.

 

4-1

- Trade with Sparky the Crow the following;

• Talisman of God > Colourless Demon Soul.
• Gold Mask > Colourless Demon Soul.
• Pure Bladestone > Ring of Longevity (26/30)
• Gold Coin > Ring of Uneven Scales (27/30)

 

NEXUS

- Kill King Allant.

- Get the Soul Brandt.

*DO NOT INTERACT WITH THE FOG GATES*

 

2-1

- Craft the Northern Regalia.

 

NEXUS

- Head back down below via the new archstone and go through the fog, DO NOT kill the Maiden.

- Get Maiden in Black Demon Soul

 

 

 

Checklist 8 and 9

*NG+ CLEAN UP, SEE BELOW*

- All we are doing now is getting through every world again in order to acquire all boss souls. Don't use any boss souls, save them for the end of NG+.

- Kill Ostrava in 1-1 again by headbutting him in the fire just like before, we want him dead so that we don't have to run around looking for him later.

- Along the way, do the online trophies, but keep World 3 PW.

- Along the way, make sure you rescue Sage Freke, Saint Urbain, Patches, Biorr and Yuria.

- On 3-1/3-2, there is 1 Ring we are still to get, the DULL RAT'S RING (28/30). As you go through 3-2, make sure you grab the 2F CELL KEY which only appears in PW, then what you need to do is go and free Rydell in 3-1 and he will give you this ring as a reward.

- You will have to do World 4 again btw because we used the Storm King's Soul to make the Morion Blade in NG, plus we need to rescue Saint Urbain anyway.

- Once you get to the end of NG+, save backup if you want, then buy ALL THE MIRACLES from Saint Urbain to get the miracle trophy, then close the app while his shop menu is still open in order to respawn with all the boss souls back (no need for a save backup/restore then).

- Then buy ALL THE MAGIC from Sage Freke and Yuria to get the the Magic trophy.

- After getting the magic and miracles trophy, then kill the 3 x NPCs on the Miracle shop side of the Nexus, be sure to loot Saint Urbain for the RING OF DEVOUT PRAYER (29/30), then kill the 2 x NPCs on the magic side but NOT Yuria. With them dead, go and kill Patches and Biorr, you will be at PB CT at this point. With them dead, save & quit to reload the Nexus, then go to the 2nd floor and accept Mephistopheles quest to kill Yuria. Now go and kill Yuria, then report back to the quest giver to get the final ring, FOE'S RING (30/30).

- Now head down the hole in the Nexus when ready and get the bad ending by killing the Maiden, netting the final 2 trophies  

- Restore your earlier save when done if you wish or if you were not using save backups, then the platinum will put you just into NG++, no earlier way to do it as you need the Soul from the good ending, and you need the trophy from the bad ending!!

 

And that is it!! Quite a mission, but it's all there if you want a sort of checklist, the vids are they for better reference, and any questions, please fire away!!

Is this better/easier than what's mentioned as the step by step guide within the trophy guide on this site? This one seems longer due to what looks like an extra play

through. The trophy guide on this site only has one playthrough

 

I'm completely new to the game so i can't tell

 

Of course it's a matter of opinion, mine is faster and easier yes, better though, that's up to to decide 

 

Both guides are 2 playthroughs btw (has NG+ at the end), I kill perhaps 2 more bosses is all, but mine is more optimal and gets you a OVERPOWERED build (once ready, literally almost everything including bosses die in 1 to 2 hits from a distance without glitches). My guide may look longer on paper, but it's much quicker.

 

Some examples: Most guides have you continue Ostravas questline for his key which can get pretty complicated and a little RNG later on, but I kill him in 1st encounter, end of quest, key required.

 

Another instance is most guides have you suiciding after each boss in the Nexus, these are WASTED DEATHS. I actually suicide on levels strategically so later on, a level is already at a certain WT, less trouble and more efficient.

 

 

Lots of little things like this plus more, the biggest thing is my OP build which you can't use on other guides.

 

You could always watch mine, but also read the Walkthrough here, and decide then and if any questions why I do this differently or that, you can always ask here or on the video comments.

I’m already more than halfway through the game but coming back after a long break. I think I will restart the game and try this guide. I got the platinum for Hollow Knight following your guide and enjoyed it. Also Resident Evil 2 in the past, I think.

Question on farming pure black bladestone, for some reason this skeleton doesn't drop it for me (at the moment) . Since you need it for the Ring of Longevity is it also possible to try to get/farm it in NG+? And if so, do you come to 4.2 during NG+ in PW or PB and does it make a difference in drop rate of a pure black item?

The skeleton will drop it mate, ur just getting bad RNG. We do PW in NG+, iirc, PB is near the end of NG, then we reload to go back to PW.

 

I guess what you could do, assuming we pop the trophy after we go into PB briefly, is after that, go and get the drop from the skeleton, get the trophy and THEN revert back to PW!

You have to go PB don't you to get that item from the NPC quest in the Nexus. Well we get that last so that we can reload and go straight back to PW after with little fuss.

 

Is it the Mephistos questline, I forget his name??

 I haven't got to that yet. Will have a look at your vids (NG or NG+?)

 

Alternative would be is to follow your guide and do a NG++, go to 4.1 all the way to the arc stone, farm the skeleton. I can go as black as I can/need to go. The trade is in 4.1 anyway. So get the trophies for all the rings the last. Or am I overseeing something?

If you don't do PB when I do, it's going to mess up the order, unless you wanna go in2 NG+ as PB, but then the game will be harder and NG+ is harder anyway.

 

PB decreases the damage you deal and increases the damage you take iirc, it makes NG+ much harder.

 

The PB questline gets you a Ring iirc, but you must have progressed the story so much first because the NPCs need to be available in the Nexus that advance the PB questline. So it's not a case that you can do this quest whenever.

I think I understand it now, you are referring to this in your guide:

 

After getting the magic and miracles trophy, then kill the 3 x NPCs on the Miracle shop side of the Nexus, be sure to loot Saint Urbain for the RING OF DEVOUT PRAYER (29/30), then kill the 2 x NPCs on the magic side but NOT Yuria. With them dead, go and kill Patches and Biorr, you will be at PB CT at this point. With them dead, save & quit to reload the Nexus, then go to the 2nd floor and accept Mephistopheles quest to kill Yuria. Now go and kill Yuria, then report back to the quest giver to get the final ring, FOE'S RING (30/30).

Ah yea that's right mate, or you can go afterwards, but that is the questline I'm referring to so you're on the right track. Good job finding the info, I forgot I wrote it all down actually and was trying to remember via memory!!

• Talisman of God > Colourless Demon Soul.
• Gold Mask > Colourless Demon Soul.
• Pure Bladestone > Ring of Longevity (26/30)
• Gold Coin > Ring of Uneven Scales (27/30)

Or just do it all together after I have the Pure Bladestone

@Optinooby awesome guide I didn't know this existed when I played throughs the game.  you been making some of the best guides Ender lilies and Salt and sanctuary are two I used.  Hoping you make one for Salt and Sacrifice when it drops!  Thanks for all your hard work!

Whatever you think is best mate, that's when we go into PB so that's the best time to do the farming at least if you think PB may affect the drop rates. I was never confident how helpful PB made the drop rate as end of the day it's still bad RNG, I had done PW and PB farming and neither seemed better so I just went with PW.

 

Anything else like you mention, just switch it around as suits you, just being careful you don't mess anything up, I can't say for sure myself and I don't recall all the requirements surrounding stuff

tried it with PBCT and turned the world into PBWT, got pure bladestone on my 5th try with the skeleton behind the illusory wall.

Is it possible to follow this guide only from the point forms? I don't want to miss anything but I do want to explore everything and take my time without watching the video. I'm curious if you have important info in the video that I need to watch so I don't mess anything up.

How do you mean, do you mean all the text steps enough without the videos??

 

There is always important info in my videos, I break things down and stuff to explain.

 

You could follow the text steps, and then if you get stuck anyone or need more info, just try to find the spot in the video for some clarity.

 

I use a Super Hyper build btw eventually, we one shot bosses eventually!!

Basically. I want to just use your shortened text to guide me through instead of watching the videos especially since I want to kill every enemy and take my time, but I don't want to miss anything. I just want to make sure that if I only read your text, I won't miss any trophies or screw anything up. Could you confirm that?
