Been trying to finish the story of this damn game but i can't for the life of me trigger the FREEM hideout final quests, i've done dozens of kobal missions still nothing, replayed the game from scratch with different seeds MULTIPLE TIMES and still nothing, please can somebody tell me what the hell i'm doing wrong.

Here's what I tried:

After arriving at the FREEMs hideout, accept side quests from Kobal at Weelinden INN.

Repeat accept & clear until Kobal orders you a Haunted Mansion quest.

Spending a long game time inside the mansion may help you progress the story mode.

I don't know exact condition for it, but I think it is worth trying if you have no other solution.

If you succeed, Evan starts briefing the next mission (kidnapping two scientists at enemy's camp) as soon as you enter the FREEMs hideout

(each time you reach the next cutscene, a "?" mark appears above Evan's head).

Good luck!

No, Kobal at Weelinden INN sometimes gives you a quest in which you rescue missing children taken to the Haunted Mansion.

ok i'll try that maybe the amount of hours played has something to do with the story triggers.

EDIT: yes! finally triggered it! basically the game wants you to do at least one haunted mansion quest from kobal, but if you never do the original one from the skeleton guy in merlenheim he never gives you one ( that's why i was confused ).

The haunted mansion side quest is actually mandatory, if you speedrun the game doing only jin and kobal quests ( like i did ) you never trigger the FREEM story missions, maybe the game wants you to do at least one of every type of kobal missions who knows.

I was waiting for what I assumed must be the last story mission in the game. It took an eternity of pointless side quests to finally activate the Haunted Mansion.

By that point I had worked out, mostly by reading this thread but also playing the game, that there is a Haunted Mansion quest before every major main story episode. You just have to keep doing jobs for Jin/Kobal until you get it.

After one mission, as tinc62 said, you will come back and Thomas the skeleton will be waiting for you outside Jin's tavern, so as soon as you see him, make sure you do that or else the mansion missions will never appear as the mansion location (Numbrot Clearing) hasn't spawned on your map.

Time spent in the Haunted Mansion has no bearing on anything, you just need to defeat the Cold Barron and his minions after finding all the children.

You can skip all the repeating monster slaying quests (vampires, werewolves and so on) by just exiting the portal as soon as you arrive at the mission location, but I would say the Victor Stein quests are mandatory, as are sheep protection ones, rescue and escort quests.

After defeating the Kraken, the game decided to start corrupting my save file. Sometimes by me skipping the above quest-types and sometimes coz reasons.

I was backing up my save regularly anyway but after this started happening I had three USBs and updated the oldest save after I skipped/completed every quest. Just to be extra safe, I chose "Save and continue" and then "Exit without saving".

I honestly thought the game was glitched because there were so many pointless Kobal side quests at the end that seemed never-ending, but it was fine, the Haunted Mansion finally came up, I got it done and went straight to the FREEM HQ where thankfully, the final quest was waiting for me with Evan with a ? over her head (although the game gave no indication this was the case).

I was particularly concerned because I was given a FREEM sidequest to deliver a secret letter, but after reloading and being given a different recipient every time, none of them would trigger the required dialogue to actually give them the letter. If that happens to you, don't worry, it isn't needed.

I started the game on PS4 but had so many crashes, I decided to play on PS3 instead. I've maybe had ten crashes on PS3, some of which can also corrupt your save file, but overall, it's much more stable, and the save corruption issue is at least manageable.
