RIP Konami?

It's weird, though.  They're still healthy financially.  Why don't they just let the big three use their IPs and give them royalties like Disney does with theirs?  I grew up playing games like Contra, MG, Gradius and Suikoden.  These are for of my favorite franchises.

That would be nice. Lets hope for the best.

Good ole Suikoden, I forgot they made that game.

I think the Konami we have in our minds when we think of them have not existed for a long long time. Those days are well and truly over since they railroaded themselves into the gambling industry while sitting on some truly genre defining and iconic IP's.

I hope that this restructure is because they plan on re-opening their game development.

But if it's because they just want to run a tighter ship and double down on their gambling gig, i hope they just sell those IP's before vanishing into casino mode.

I have this long running hope that Capcom or Sony will step in and just make a lucrative offer for the rights to stuff like MG and Silent Hill.

Think quite a few people saw the words "Konami" and "dissolving" and thought that meant the IPs were up for grabs. Can't blame them really. Konami has treated some of their (former) big franchises awfully these last few years that many want to see them done justice.

Metal Gear being back under Kojima would be a blessing to the fans,

Isn't Kojima fed up of Metal Gear now?  Even if Kojima Productions did get the MGS series, chances are that Kojima himself wouldn't want to do yet another game.

I always thought it was more that Konami wouldn't give him the time/budget to make the game that he wanted and kept interfering, hence their falling out. I think he'd be more likely to do another game if he were given control over the series.

Doesn't necessarily have to be Kojima Productions. I was just spitballing about giving a well known franchise to someone who is going to do something other than make pachinko machines based off it.

Very sad. Konami developed a number of games that catered to the West.

There was a local Chuck e' Cheese that had The Simpsons Arcade which I ended up spending many quarters on. Arcades were practically already on their way out considering this was several years after the game came out that I finally got around to it. Was far too young to play any of them really, but I remember seeing the Konami logo pop up on The Simpsons and it was a blast playing it with others.

Later on I played Metal Gear Solid 2 & 3 for the PS2. Didn't play well because I didn't know what I was doing half the time. But god were they epic. Silent Hill was another awesome franchise Konami held.

I think it's best Konami moved on really. Their attempt on Metal Gear after Hideo Kojima left was an utter failure. They were putting the pressure on him when Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain was being developed, heard many people say the game really starts to fall apart by the second half of it. Metal Gear was the only franchise Konami had going for it, as Silent Hill went kaput a long time ago. You had those two Castlevania games in the PS3 era, but a lot of people just seemed to overlook them. I don't know if I'll have time to play through them or not.

In truth, Konami appealed to the kids of the 80s and 90s who are now in their late 30s and 40s. Today they're no different than 2K Games, EA and Activision, in many ways I think Konami is worse because they haven't put out anything worthwhile in several years now. I've played several of their casino games, but I couldn't get into them.

Can't say I care anymore, either way. Some of the most prominent and talented people who once worked under their umbrella appear to be doing fine elsewhere—IGA with Bloodstained, Toyama did Gravity Rush, and Kojima obviously has Death Stranding. I'm fine with franchises like Silent Hill being concluded; would rather see new, original stuff anyway.

Konami was good. WAS. What has Konami done for me lately? Jack. A lot of their talented devs have left them and are doing fine, as ScarecrowsFate said. If they shut their doors, oh well. The time to mourn for Konami was when they went downhill.

There are some Konami IPs I'd like to see sold off to developers who would use them. Why not sell Gradius & Salamander/Life Force to G.Revolution, and Castlevania & Contra to M2? As for Metal Gear, I think we've seen all of it. Konami would probably rather let it die than sell it to Kojima, considering their bitter breakup. Kojima could probably make a new not-Metal Gear franchise that plays similar while being different enough.
