Popular Post Lordidude
https://www.gameawards.net/ Well deserved in my opinion. One of the technically most breathtaking and incredible games of the past few years. I wonder how this will be looked upon by the video gaming community. Lordidude
This record might not get broken for a few years. Unless there is a big influx of awards in the upcoming years: Total Awards per Year: 2019 - 398 2018 - 423 2017 - 384 2016 - 431 2015 - 447 2014 - 414 2013 - 528 2012 - 384 2011 - 405 2010 - 293 2009 - 214 2008 - 205 2007 - 158 2006 - 113 2005 - 61 2004 - 55 2003 - 39

Popular Post Stardroid
NoBoDy CaReS AboUt ThE AwArDs - "But why didn't the Witcher or Zelda win though :'( 100 emoji 100 emoji 100 emoji. " Who hurt you guys? Absolutely deserved. The graphics they got from a potato like PS4, the musical score, the gameplay, the narrative. An all round well crafted package which only crime is the story it wanted to tell instead of the story most people wanted. Popular Post A_93juantheone
Wholly undeserved in my opinion. Given the fact that Naughty Dog comes from a place of inclusion, but never does anything meaningful or even respectful in those regards. Kotaku has some great articles about the problematic portrayals of some of the characters in TLOU2. I would disagree with Kotaku on a video game not deserving GOTY, because of crunch, but Neil Druckman absolutely should not have won Best Director. I won't deny that the TLOU2 is a pure technical masterpiece, but everything else is surface deep, whether it be the characters, motivations, combat, and stealth. If even one of those things was crafted with the same intricateness as the technical accomplishments, I could see it being closer to GOTY. However, beyond the veneer of an amazing technical accomplishment is gameplay and story that is wholly derivative of far better works.

Owning other consoles for 2 games is not a reason not to play them, you can sell them later. I live in a universe where story and gameplay are the most imporant aspects in vg. Popular Post Ac3dUd3-
No comment on the game as ive not played it. Id just like to drop in and say I think the amount of awards these days are ridiculous. Having 260 awards IMO doesnt make it sound any more impressive and just saying it won best art direction, best score etc is more than enough

Popular Post Conor
Before this thread gets flooded by people who have made hating this game the core facet of their personalities, I will say that it is a great accomplishment. The reader's choice categories are particularly interesting so it goes to show that those who cried the loudest don't represent how most people who played actually feel, as well as goes against the ridiculous and childish notion that the game was only liked by critics and not actual gamers (with a lower-case "g"). Also pretty funny how those who say "who cares about these awards?" or "these awards mean nothing" are the ones who have the most to say about them, especially when a game they didn't like is in the spotlight. Nothing wrong with not liking a game but a bit of maturity wouldn't go amiss. It wasn't my personal GotY (Final Fantasy VII Remake, for me) but I still liked it a lot and I'm glad it got proper recognition outside of the shitshow that is Internet discourse. But I do also hope that Naughty Dog treats its developers better on future projects. The amount seems to dillute the meaning of these awards. Nevertheless it's very hard to argue against the consensus. The problem is that a lot of people are insecure about their opinions and feel attacked when other players have a different favorite game.
Popular Post Valkirye22
It's an industry circle-jerk as usual, I loved the game but it getting or losing these awards over/to Tsushima, Zelda, Mario, RDR, Witcher or any other game I have or don't have interest in I really don't care. If it - together with sales numbers - means more recognition for the studio, more funding for future projects and better working conditions for the employees than great. Otherwise it is just another quote of praise in stars and olive wreath on the game cover art... or "From the makes of X" in the trailer of the next game. Honestly you have these is any business, beyond a cool engraved glass trophy the responsible director/exec will keep on his desk or add to his Linkedin bio not much to it

Unless by "industry" you somehow mean everyone who plays games. It also has more player voted GOTY awards than any other game in history. Now what is definitely true is that it didn't have major competition this year (no GoW, RDR2, BOTW type behemoth quality-wise came out in 2020) so the insane amount of awards is largely due to that. Personally however it became my favorite game of all time and I'm very happy to see it get so much recognition especially from players to counteract the narrative that the game is only loved by journalists.

When it gets re-released on PS5 then branding it "The most awarded game of all time" will definitely help push more sales towards people who aren't lurking around in trophy hunter forums. There's no need for people to specifically ask for these kind of games. There are a lot of people buying games non-digital. If you don't have a lot of experience then comparing covers will definitely favor the one that can boast with a broader sense of industry accomplishments. I want you to get a better point. When (if) it gets re-released you think stores will be easily duped into the same "it will look great collecting dust on your shelves" argument? Tell you what. It'll do better in case they use them award labels to hide that stupid angry face on its cover.

MandA60VISE
When I read most awarded in the title I don't know why I thought it was given out the most. "Congratulations, you passed fifth grade math, here's The Last of Us II as reward." Haven't played it and never will play it because I hate Naughty Dog's gameplay so no comment on anything else.

A year later the re-release easily outsold the PS3 version by nearly 50%. Even though there were more than 10x more PS3s sold than PS4s (85m vs 7.4m). Whether you like it or not, awards push sales. The data on that is crystal clear. Oscars push box office sales. Grammys push album sales. VG awards push video game sales. 1 minute ago, VegaMan-X4 said: Tell you what. No that's not how (primary school) math works... 10/39 is basically a 4th. After 2010 you have on average 400-500 awards a year so a game like Part II that wins 261 is twice as impressive as that hypothetical game from 2010.
