Death Stranding could get new story content and a possible upgrade for the PS5 according to a new rumor that comes from a reputable source.

 

Navtra has accurately leaked information related to PlayStation exclusives in the past. This leak was the one who first posted about the Final Fantasy XVI announcement at the PS5 Games Showcase and that turned out to be accurate. Navtra has also shared some leaks on Final Fantasy VII Remake and other Square Enix projects in the past.

 

The most recent rumor also comes from Navtra who first dropped a small teaser regarding Death Stranding. “If you’re interested in Death Stranding but haven’t played it yet, it might be worth it to wait a lil bit, ” Navtra posted in a thread on the ReseteERA forums.

 

When a user asked if this news will come with a PS5 patch announcement, Navtra replied: “Even if there’s an upgrade path I think it will be paid since there’s new story content in this version.”

 

For long-time fans of Metal Gear Solid and especially Hideo Kojima, this news might not be that much of a surprise. Kojima has previously released an expanded version of his Metal Gear Solid games. He did it with Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3, while there was no such expansion released for Metal Gear Solid 4 and 5, but the last one is understandable due to the troubled development that led to Kojima leaving Konami behind to start his own studio.

 

It is possible that a similar “expanded” version of Death Stranding will arrive on PS4/PS5 and that could also offer a native upgrade to PS5 users. Death Stranding is also a major first-party IP from Sony that launched back in 2019 but hasn’t received any update unlike Days Gone to add support for PS5 enhancements. The game did launch on PC in July 2020, but 505 Games published that version.

We could argue that MGS4 had a second release when they added Trophys in etc. (and surely it had all the Patches on the Disc etc. etc. which I'm pretty sure added the ability to fully Install and stuff) buy sure it didn't have any extra content.

 

Kinda cool I guess and I still haven't played Death Stranding but I grabbed it Brand New for $20 when it was on Sale during the Christmas period, cause why not, it's $20 ?

Dunno if I'd personally be up to go through it all again. Hopefully there is a new region or something because I don't want to have to lay down all those roads and Ziplines again!

This reminds me I still need to finish Death Stranding. I'm at the beggining of Chapter 8 and I have a solid zipline base (I hope it's still there). I will probably jump back to it after I finish the 100% on Hitman 2.

Even though I liked the story the grind was tough and half  of my playtime of over 100 hours considered in grinding. I would not want to do it all over again. Really not.

I kinda hope it's gonna get a separate trophy list, I'd love to platinum it again. It was a weird experience, I was expecting to be bored to death, after 2 hours was bored to death, then it clicked and 70 hours later I wanted to do it all over again. Weirdly, as intriguing and surprising as the story was, I don't really care much for the new story content or even a potential sequel. It was one of those stories that are great but also  complete and feel like a one-time thing.

This is all just rumors, an "article" about a literal forum post. I'm not even sure how they could continue the story given how everything ended. I'm sure it'll get a new-console upglow, but that's way different from new story content.

Not sure i can be bothered to go through death stranding again to platinum it. The grind is huge. I enjoyed every minute of the game but i wont run through it again anytime soon.

The Half-Life stuff would stay PC exclusive much like all the other Half-Life platform exclusive content out there for Super Meat Boy, Final Fantasy XV and Fall Guys did.

It's kind of crazy to me how this whole PS5 upgrade thing turned out. When we found out this was going to be a thing I figured only a small handful of the top titles were going to get this luxury...but it feels like, every time we turn around, another game is getting the PS5 upgrade treatment. I'm really wondering how the process works at this point because it seems like devs have literally remastered their games in a fraction of the time we've seen from the last 2 generations alone. 

 

I have Death Stranding sitting on my shelf ready to play. We'll see if I have a PS5 by the time I'm ready to play it.

It was kind of the same way last gen. First a couple PS3 games got ported to PS4. They were either late PS3 releases or very popular titles so it made sense but eventually every 'literal who' got a port that most people weren't asking for.
