Popular Post Abby_TheLastofUs
HBO's Last of Us Show Casts Game of Thrones Star as Ellie Quote The Last of Us TV show coming to HBO has found its Ellie. Bella Ramsey, best known for playing Lyanna Mormont in HBO’s Game of Thrones, will play the main role in Craig Mazin’s adaptation. The Hollywood Reporter confirmed Ellie’s casting today and cleared up rumors on another bit of casting news as well. True Detective star Mahershala Ali will not be playing Joel in the HBO series, though the actor was at one point circling the role.Ellie is one of the main characters in The Last of Us. A young orphan, she is discovered to be immune to the virus that has overtaken Earth that turns infected people into horrible creatures. A fixer named Joel is tasked with delivering Ellie to a group called The Fireflys so they can create a cure for the virus. Ramsey is best known for her role as Lyanna Mormon in Game of Thrones. The young lord of House Mormont, Lyanna served as a key ally to the Starks in their quest to retake Winterfell from House Bolton, and later fend off the White Walkers and the Night King.Casting rumors from earlier this week claimed Academy Award-winning actor Mahershala Ali will play Joel in HBO's TV series, but The Hollywood Reporter says this is not the case. Though there appears to have at least been some consideration for Ali at one point. The Last of Us: Pedro Pascal Cast as Joel in HBO Series Adaptation Quote The Mandalorian's Pedro Pascal has been cast as Joel in the upcoming HBO adaptation of The Last of Us. As reported by Deadline, Pascal will join Game of Thrones' Bella Ramsey, who is set to play Ellie. The Last of Us series is being developed by Chernobyl creator Craig Mazin and The Last of Us games' director and Naughty Dog Co-President Neil Druckmann. While they never shared screen time, Pascal and Ramsey were both on Game of Thrones and will soon set out on an adventure that will see them breaking free of an oppressive quarantine zone and journeying across a post-apocalyptic United States. This series is said to focus on the events of 2013's The Last of Us and will be written by Mazin and Druckmann. Druckmann will also be the executive producer alongside Chernobyl and Game of Thrones' Cheryl Strauss, Naughty Dog Co-President Evan Well, and PlayStation Productions Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan. Conor
She'll kill it for sure. How lucky we will be to have two awesome iterations of the same character. Looking forward to the Joel casting.
BrandedBerserk
Not bad at all. I'm thinking Hugh Jackman would kill it as Joel if there's anyone that can fit the character but I suppose he already sorta did with Logan.
den-69
It seems like terrible casting but I will try reserve judgement for now lol
StewartBros
I've never seen Game of Thrones, so have barely even heard of Bella. Thus, it's impossible for me to say whether she'll do a good or bad job of playing Ellie until I can see a clip of her in action. I'll keep an eye on how this series progresses, although it'll likely be some time yet before it really starts to take shape.

Looking forward to the Joel casting. Not sure how I feel about her as I havent watched a single minute of GoT. My picks were Kaitlyn Dever from Booksmart and Justified, or Ruby Jay from The Unicorn. Hope she kills it though.

djb5f
Ugh, everyone loved her character in GoT except for me I think. And I don’t see her as Ellie but oh well. The series is still going to rock.

Matto_lsi
Nope, no thanks, a swing and a miss. There are plenty of great actors out there who can play lots of diverse roles, and as far as Pedro and Bella are concerned, they can probably do a great job in many roles, but as far as Joel and Ellie, they aren't it. These two characters are incredibly unique and I would have much preferred using the actual voice actors (especially considering Ashley was a screen actress long before she got into voice work) if they couldn't find the perfect duo elsewhere. Looks like HBO just went and hired two of it's own, as generic hollywood as you can get. I really hope they prove me wrong, and I'll of course give them the benefit of the doubt and watch them in action before judging their performance, but I just don't have any real hope for this. And considering how awful most video games films/shows end up being, that hope wasn't very high to begin with.

kdogg_gamer_
Not a fan of either casting but maybe we will be surprised. I mean I never thought Daniel Craig would've been a great James Bond but hes the best. I don't like it but I trust it.

mcnichoj
I thought the first game was boring and linear, I wonder if this show is also going to be boring and linear and just repeat what we've seen in the game and on episodes of The Walking Dead. I really like HBO shows though, so fingers crossed.

Denzel doesn't look anything like Malcolm X. Anthony Hopkins doesn't look like Richard Nixon. DeNiro looks nothing like James Conway. Woody Harrelson doesn't look like Larry Flint, Jim Carrey doesn't look like Andy Kaufmann, Gillian Anderson doesn't look like Margaret Thatcher (thank heavens), and Cate Blanchett sure as hell doesn't look like Bob Dylan! I liked GoT, and and liked the girl fine in that - never seen that Star Wars thing, but recognise the guy from GoT - he was fine on that too, so we'll see. It's gonna all hang on tone with this one, just as the game did - it's not a particularly original story, but the tone was what gave it it's personality, so the direction, cinematography and the score are going to be what makes or breaks this show I think. Frankly, if they can bring even a fraction of the quality of Chernobyl to this show, it will be well above the (admittedly low) watermark of previous video game adaptations. I can see Pascal as Joel even though he is a mediocre actor at best, but I have a harder time seeing Ramsey as Ellie though. At least we won’t get the Netflix adaption where Pascal plays Ellie and Ramsey plays Joel. I was really hoping we would get Hugh Jackman as Joel. But who knows both actors might surprise us and nail their respective roles. So I am keeping a open mind since I adore both TLOU games. dieselmanchild
I thought she was great as the fiery tongued little Lyanna Mormont in GoT, but I’m not going to lie... I’m having a really hard time picturing her as Ellie. Hopefully she ends up doing a good job. Edit: Removed my comments on Mahershala Ali being looked at for Joel, as apparently the role has already been cast as pointed out in OP. Also, you know who would have been a great casting for Ellie? Kaitlyn Dever! Tell me you don’t see it. Edited February 11, 2021 by dieselmanchild

Those movies would kick ass, as the actors would be able to play their part so well. Edit: also, let's cast a lion in the "Flipper" (1996) remake. And, of course, when they do the "Sunshine" (2007) remake, please let us cast the moon in place of the sun. I identify myself as an albino vampire. I can't stand the sun. I know you are being facetious to try and make a point, but I don't think it really applies here. You are a Churchill fan, I assume? (You have a quote of his in your signature) If you google actors who have played him over the years, you find a hell of a lot of people, and aside from being white males for the most part, they have nothing physical in common - and in a lot of cases, some of the best performances of the man have come from actors who look least like him. (Personally I think John Lithgow in The Crown, Gary Oldman in The Darkest Hour, Timothy Spall in The Kings Speech and Brian Cox in Churchill are amongst the best) 23 minutes ago, dieselmanchild said: Also, Mahershala Ali being looked at to play Joel.. Wtf?? I’m a big fan of his work, especially recent efforts on TV like House of Cards and True Detective. He’s a fantastic actor. But I really can’t see him playing Joel to be honest. I mean, I’m sorry to state the obvious elephant in the room, but he’s black. Joel is supposed to be a middle aged white redneck type from the Deep South. I can’t help but feel like this reeks of Druckmann and company once again “challenging conventions” and showing us how progressive this franchise is. If they really want to change characters so drastically, I think they should just create an entirely new spin-off show set in the world of The Last of Us but without all the familiar characters the fans have come to love. I feel this would be the smartest and safest move. Because by potentially making such drastic changes, they are risking taking an L of biblical proportions and alienating fans of the games. Just my 2c. He isn't, but to be honest, I think any 'fans' that would be 'alienated' by the casting of an actor of the calibre of Mahershala Ali just because he is black, most likely already feel 'alienated' by what they see as 'progressive' story elements in The Last of Us Part II. The most vocal of whom have most likely been bleating about their regressive views on the subject on forums since it's release. Ironically, they are most likely going to be the one audience the show creators can truly count on - they will hate-watch the crap out of the show, just so they have something to bemoan on 8-chan afterwards.
