Trumpet_Boi_208
Getting Iceborne will add another trophy list to your collection, making your overall completion percentage lower. However, the higher quality gear you get in Master Rank allows you to kill low/high rank monsters much more quickly. If you’re willing to put in some time to play through Iceborne, then grinding those final crowns hopefully won’t be as painful than doing it with high rank gear. In short, yes it will. The gold crowns in IB will require you to get the mini and great crowns for DLC update monsters from MHW (e.g. Lunastra and Devilhjo) in addition to the Iceborne monsters including Elders dragons and Guiding Lands monsters which require you to level up regions etc. to unlock. So yes it will be a grind.
Sendai-Horatio
I just finished both games platinum last month For the base game go after the Elder Dragons first on High Rank(preferably using Iceborne Gear) Then everything crown related in world can be done through high rank crown events with once exception being Black Diablos which appears in an iceborne Crown event. Crown events make things go way faster. With Elder Dragons you only have like 9 to crown snipe in total for the base game because there's a quest that gives you a large crown Teostra. Iceborne you need Lunestra and Deviljho, but get Lunestra on high rank and Deviljho can be done through a high rank event quest. But there are 14 other crowns you'll need to snipe for on top of Lunestra. Everything else can be done easily through iceborne crown event quests. It is insanely challenging to fight some of those monsters. Many times you'll think it's a crown and it won't be as im sure you dealt with in base game. It is the most ideal to actually have iceborne right away so you can make the most of your time spent. I plat both games in 350hrs and that was achieved because i went into iceborne asap..got insane gear and came back to base game. This was pre fatalis and alatreon. You can do iceborne if you enjoy the game but crown farming in iceborne is rough if you don't get fatalis gear.
