It happens too often that i search for a game, and instead of getting it on 1st place, it's many pages later. Example: today i was looking for ff7 remake. Considering "remake" word is rare in games titles i've searched just only for "remake". From a search like this i expect to find ff7 remake at first place. but no, its maybe at 7th position while before it there are games that dont even have word remake in its title (i assume there are trophies with "remake" in it). while if i digit final fantasy vii remake, i get first ff vii (standard). examples are countless and search results are never what one should expect. now, i dont want to completely "remake" search engine. an option that search only for digited words should be enough, and i think it will be the preferred method by anyone 38 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

XpanderFX Posted March 4, 2021 Author Share Posted March 4, 2021 problem is: search input is discrete: it means that we have to input correct words with no errors or aliases (gta/grand theft auto). excel style search results arent discrete: it means that results are "google style". results are based not only on the game title but also on the trophies names/description and maybe even more stuff (content) a search like this should be ONLY discrete. in fact time ago it worked well. this is also a standard search method, the easiest to program. then, one day, someone had a brilliant idea to make it more fancy, confusing, and unreliable, not mentioning harder to program as it uses custom parameters (that normally are selected by end-user using ADVANCED search option, and not set as default). perfect example of screwing something perfect even if "old", in the name of progress (like the new playstationtrophies.org forum) 1 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

PlayStationTrophies is a lot worse as far as searching because most often if you're not specific to a "T" on the spelling nothing shows up. I get that other games have the combination of ‘rad’ somewhere in their title, and so I accept that they will appear in the list of results, but there is no reason I can think of that the game with the exact match to the search term should not be the top result. Oh, and, for what it’s worth, if I was looking for The Escapists, I would type “The Escapists” - and I would expect the top result to be The Escapists, regardless of how many other games had the word “The” in the title. If that makes me an idiot, then fuckit, I’m an idiot... ...but it doesn’t. Because that’s the name of the damned game. It should just put the exact match at the top if it is found, with underneath something like "maybe you also meant..." if you really want to show more stuff than the exact match. Search came back with the "additional list" in first place (not the main list, the list where it had to split it into two with the second half of the list, that's what came up first for the PS4 version)... and then a bunch of POWGI games afterwards.
