That's a false myth. The problem with this is that old Nintendo stores (and so did most failed stores) had mostly games that are mostly forgotten, while Microsoft and Sony have everything in their stores, from shovelware to AAA titles. Popular Post Raidou Kuzunoha XIV
11 minutes ago, enaysoft said: Probably the biggest elephant in the room might be trophy syncing. And basically Sony just deleting our trophies. Many games back on PS3 I sold, and also my original PS3 died with YLOD. I have them of course on Sony's servers. But one day they might close down that service too. Why wouldn't they? There are 3.5 billion trophies tracked on this site. Imagine how much more there are in Sony's entire database? That number is going to be exponential. Who wants to foot that bill? Unless you have a PS3, run the game again and sync your trophies, you don't have them. Not anymore. In other words, we sync all our trophies because we earn them on several systems. The final step is for Sony to just abandon storing our trophies. The Wii store closed but that had no achievements. Sony don't have to store our trophy data, forever. Maybe by PS6 there will be a new trophy system, or some other reward system that replaces the current one. I have a ton of unlocked galleries on PS2 games. 100% completed! However that achievement dies along with the memory card it runs on. Trophies are just data stored on a server. One day they might go too. It's genuinely something we/you all need to start thinking out. Not being able to buy games is very annoying, not being able to download games we are already bought, that's incredibly annoying. But not storing our trophies anymore... This may sound far fetched, but seriously. People need to really think about their life priorities. If you found out by 2024 all your trophies would only remain on your systems, what would you do? Nothing lasts forever... At this point, I almost wouldn't doubt that Sony decides to come out and say "oh, also we're deleting all your PS3 and Vita trophies. Thanks for your continued support!" But I still doubt. I don't think trophies take up enough of Sony's data for them to care. But maybe a decade from now? Who knows. The thing that baffles me is Sony announcing the end/closure of so many things all around the same time. Playstation Video, communities, the new webstore, and now potentially this. Just... Why? Do they think they're appealing to anyone by announcing the removal of things back to back? It's personally just making me really disheartened with Sony, even when I don't even care about movies on the PSN store or communities. Getting rid of features is rarely ever a good thing. Features can often just be ignored, and removing them is just going to piss off people that do use them. If things continue as they are with timed digital releases (NES Fire Emblem re-release and 3D Mario Collection on Switch), subscription services like Game Pass and PS Now, more and more games being digital only, less and less ownership over your purchases, more games releasing broken at launch and more online only BS, I see myself just no longer buying new games or consoles in the future. Maybe I'll just get a gaming PC for the games I really, really want. I have enough games to last me the rest of my life now anyway, and a backlog of un-played games to last me another 20+ years. I've been gaming since the PS1 and N64 and it's honestly really depressing seeing the direction gaming in general seems to be going nowadays.

Popular Post Honor_Hand
Hmm, I'm not entirely sure about the validity of this piece of news. If anything, I'd rather wait for an official confirmation itself from Sony before engaging in Panic Mode. One thing is certain, though. Given how Sony has been misfiring on all cylinders with most of their recent decisions, I wouldn't be too surprised if this ended up being real. Again, I hope this isn't the case, but my trust in their decision-making has been slowly going down over the last few months. Digital does bring a veritable number of benefits to the gaming world, we've all reaped those benefits as we move forward. However, if this eventually ends up being real it's going to suck so much ass... Not being able to acquire those games from a legal storefront is a detriment both to gamers and to the developers and publishers who made them happen. Personally, I still play a ton of PS3 games. For reasons outside of my control, I cannot really take part in what modern gaming has to offer as far as the most recent tech and products that come out. That being said, I do happen to find enjoyment and comfort in playing old games. There's still a lot of fun to be had on them, and being deprived of legally acquiring them to build my profile and have fun around them is just terrible.
El Duderino
I was thinking about this scenario for a while now, but not expecting it to happen so soon. I've just finished the Witcher III GotY on XBONE and was unsure what to play next. Well, now I know. My PS3 backlog is waiting. More like arrogance and idiocy has no limits.
Atoya
Like if they are shutting the ps store down for good at least make one last big sale for the ps3/vita, the prices are unbelievable like who the fu*k is willing to spend $50+ on some old ps3 games, and the DLC’s are very expensive, the store was unbearable anyway, I am honestly tired of there stupidity. They designed there network in the worst possible way which even made day one features like psn name change, or backwards compatibility for ps3 become something almost impossible to implement.

Pottercito_
I already bought all my PS3/VITA remaining titles and DLC. But... I accidentally downloaded the DLC of Sonic Adventure twice. Is it possible? I mean my PS3 downloaded it first and then I accidentally downloaded it again. So the dlc is twice downloaded. Nothing to care about? Unlike you, I can call both platforms out, but will also give both credit when due. As for backwards/forwards, good to know you enjoy your semantics. Popular Post Elvick_
I wouldn’t be surprised. It’s going to happen eventually, sooner than later. The web store dropping these games and systems is proof they give zero fucks about people who invest in the PlayStation platform and especially the Network. Whether or not this rumour is true, it’s going to happen and it’s stupid. Webstore would let them keep them up for as long as the licenses exist, but fuck you I guess. Digital is the future!

Popular Post AJ_Radio
My issue with all of this is the fact that Sony is throwing down bad decision after bad decision. They have literally done a bunch of bullshit this past year that has practically taken away our options. Personally, I don’t care about any movies on the PS Store, but removing that this summer just sounds like a bogus decision. Granted, I can expect that barely anybody watches movies and gets them through Playstation. I still have a Netflix subscription that I use from time to time, just not all too often. There is an audience out there for the movies on Playstation, whether we think there is or not. Recently I’ve noticed we haven’t had the options we did on the PS4 years ago. I can’t send a message in a Friend Request on PS4, I don’t know if I’m just forgetting something or what, but it’s not there for me. Sony is not only pissing on the pooches that are the PS3 and Vita, it’s taking away options on the PS4 as well. Movies, Communities, Playstation Video, the option to send messages in Friend Requests, etc. I couldn’t find themes and avatars for the PS4 on the new web store either. They’re taking away so much that were nice features. Not entirely essential but nice to have. I’m looking at the PS5 UI and it is a horrid mess. Disorganized, you have to take one - two steps to do the same tasks you do on the PS4. That’s not to mention Sony’s constantly meddling with censorship on various anime games, to where some developers are flocking to Xbox Series X and Nintendo Switch. Sony Studio Japan? Another bad decision that was poorly made. We can expect Sony to make more bonehead decisions in the future. Yes, I would of been angry even if this rumor of Sony taking away the PS3/Vita stores was entirely separate and everything else they’ve done were good decisions. But these drastic decisions, to end Sony Studio Japan, take away Communities on the PS4, remove the entire movie lineup on the Sony Store, and now this is really souring the respect and praise I once had for them. Maybe before too long I will just end trophy hunting as a whole, sell off my Sony consoles and stick to Steam on PC and buy a Nintendo Switch for its exclusives. I can’t see myself going back to Microsoft, they are just as scummy in many respects regarding their DRM crap, and axing many of their once good exclusives. It’s a terrible time for digital, when we’re still living in the COVID-19 pandemic. Now they’re pulling this shit.
Popular Post TrophyChief
Time to get to work fellow gamers. Even if this is not true, it is a stark reminder to complete your PS3 & Vita games sooner rather than later. We all know it was eventually going to come a time when this would occur. By all means, vent, express frustration, cuss if you need to but don't let that anger or disappointment last too long and get busy if you care about trophies on those games. If it's a concern about game preservation, that's another discussion worth having. Edited March 23, 2021 by MrTrofyHunter

Well we thought this too when rumors were abound last year in September regarding the removal of PS3/Vita content on the web stores. In a few short weeks, the change was made in October on top of changing the trophy system. Should this happen this summer I am going to be legit pissed. Pray_4_the_End
I'm glad I started buying up all the physical Vita games I can over the past year, I kinda figured we would end up at this point sooner rather than later. It just sucks I appeared to have jumped on the Vita train a bit too late. Oh well, I've almost got all the games I've been wanting to play for it. Around 30 physical and 20+ digital. Look's like I'll just need to pack my memory cards and I'll be set. I don't play the PS3 so that part doesn't really affect me, pretty sad though as I know a lot of people still play the shit out of it. Let's hope this isn't true but I wouldn't be surprised if it is.
