Reversal: PS3, Vita, And PSP Stores To No Longer Close Permanently

Isn't that whole syncing trophies thing something completetly different than closing the stores? I heard that syncing trophies and such is all part of the same infrastructure by Sony. So syncing your trophies on the Vita, the PS3, PS4 and PS5 are all part of the same system. Is that true?

Is this true?

So we no need to worry about Sony disable the syn of ps3 and vita trophy?

Tell that to the same developers/publishers still doing sales for 360 games on Xbox platforms.

Sony are going out of their way to block any kind of sales for games on legacy hardware  that aren't cross play compatible.

Im not defending Sony at all here but even when PS3/Vita sales were still a thing we had the same few games over and over again on those lists.

Not sure what is available on sales for X360, maybe its better choice due to backwards compatibility.

This is stressing me so much tbh. Mostly because there are games that will be lost forever unless you own a PS3 or PS Vita (more PS3 tho, a lot of PS Vita games are on PS4, Switch or PC too), which will not live forever anyway. If it's really true, I hope at least we can still sync our Trophies. For sure I am backing up all my games on my PC and when my PS3 will die I could at least replay them on emulator.

Sony is pulling too many bullshits lately btw, it began a couple of years ago with censoring shit, but nothing I can do about it sadly. I will eventually buy a PS5 too when the price drops, since Switch ports don't run as good and are also more expansive, the PC optimizations suck too (at least the ones I am interested it, no doubt that The Witcher or GTA V runs way better on PC). Let's just keep our fingers crossed.

The rumour has us worrying because it's plausible. Since the PS4 launched, and especially since management of PlayStation shifted to Sony Interactive Entertainment LLC in 2016, under Jim "Why would anybody play this?" Ryan, the company attitude appears to have changed dramatically.

Backwards compatibility for anything pre-PS4 is not the new Sony's priority, because there isn't short term profit in it. Xbox commits to preservation and BC for good word of mouth, Sony (and Nintendo) don't feel they need to do that because they're already "winning" and you'll buy it again.

Take PS1 games, you buy them in the 90s, can still play them on your PS2 and PS3, some obscure ones you can't find get a digital release for PSP, 3 and Vita, so you buy them too. The PS4 doesn't support them because... no real reason except a plan to maybe sell them to you again later, the PS5 doesn't support them because the PS4 didn't and, once again, they're probably trying to figure out how to monetise it, maybe that's how they'll make PSNow worth having.

In short, it's just a rumour at the moment, but it's easy to be cynical about it and assume the worst considering PlayStation's current direction. I hope they won't do the scummiest thing.

Yet this Jim Ryan doesn't mind Low effort indies on Sony everyday, i have yet to hear his opinion on this one lol

for me he is like a comedian and by far near being a CEO.

You don't hear Tim Cook's opinion of shovelware on the Apple store either.
The CEO is not a curator and probably doesn't spend time deciding what 3rd party apps have the right quality for any given store.

My point was, since he already gave one on the other subject might as well give it here too since it's all related.

He wasn't CEO then and was being interviewed on the matter.
He didn't drop a "hot take" randomly for no reason.

Why do people overlook Game Pass? Unless most people don't care about that but most Xbox users are happy with it.

I know I'm a bit late to respond to this, and it's super off-topic, but just wanted to write out my opinion.

I'm really sick of hearing people harping about how GAMEPASS IS THE GREATEST DEAL IN GAMING AND EVERYONE SHOULD SUBSCRIBE, IF YOU DON'T WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU. Yeah, I get it, you pay a subscription and get access to a large number of games. That's great for people who have time to play a ton of games but maybe can't/don't want to purchase games.

Here's what I'm not interested in.

- Digging through a giant list to figure out what I want to play.

- Playing/Trying a whole bunch of games. (I generally stick to 2-3 games at a time, because I struggle with remembering which button does what)

- Feeling pressured to start & finish a game before it leaves Gamepass, if it's time-limited.

- Paying for access to hundreds of games, but in reality I only manage to play a very small number of games per month. (Heck, I have been subscribed to PS+ for years, but I usually don't even bother to try the Plus games unless there is something I was already interested in)

- Not being able to directly show support for the creators of my favourite games.

- Not getting PlayStation trophies.

- Using Xbox controllers. Xbox's lineup of exclusive games. Playing on PC.

To be a bit more on-topic, even if Sony does all this nonsense like shutting down stores for old systems, I am still gonna stick with them as long as trophies are a thing. I'm at the point where I feel like I'm wasting time if I'm not getting trophies. This is the reason I do not have or want a Switch. (If Animal Crossing gave me trophies I would be all over it). And I pay more money for PlayStation versions of games even if they are cheaper elsewhere because I need to be getting the trophies. Yes, I realize this sounds unhealthy.

That seems oddly worded. I dunno it doesn't look like support really knows what's going on.

That or they have piss poor customer service skills.  Either way Sony is handling this like shit

Well, to me, yeah, PlayStation Support can be quite useless at times and "Kevin" is clearly someone whose first language isn't English but he says the stores will be closing. Support workers may not be the most in the know about things but they wouldn't be saying that the stores were closing if it wasn't true. This confirms it for me. I'm going to respond asking for an exact date.

Support workers tend to be ignorant of many things, they'll make stuff up. I remember having to argue with one to get platinum trophy rewards because he kept saying it wasn't sony's job to give them out and I had to contact Square.

I can't see them just "making this up". They're clearly aware of the rumours and have now confirmed to me at least that the rumours are true, even if they aren't sure yet about whether downloads will still be available after the closures. I have had experiences too with Platinum rewards where one Support worker told me I couldn't have them, then they forwarded me to a specialist team and the specialist team gave me the codes for the rewards no problem, so I know what you mean about Support workers not being all that reliable, but to me, this seems fairly clear cut. If they were just making shit up, they would have made shit up about whether or not downloads would be available after closure as well. I don't think they'd just make shit up when it comes to something this big that so many people are talking about. They wouldn't just confirm it and then set themselves up to have to backpedal later.

Hmmm.

I'll wait until official confirmation.

As is your prerogative, but this seems fairly official to me. It'd definitely be nicer to see an official announcement from PlayStation though, I agree. I have responded back to the Support worker asking a bunch of things, including why there hasn't been any official word from PlayStation as of yet.

Or he could be thinking that you're referring to the closure of the old Playstation store and app.
