Popular Post Shikotei-kun
So on top of getting a 'revamped' hunchbacked webstore that's lacking all but the latest 2 consoles (and TBH hasn't got any real functionality restored since launch), one of which is hasn't been properly available for months now (unless you like forking over 150% retail price to someone who's looking to make cash with the high demand and catastrophically low supply)... we also get the missing other consoles digitally strung up to dry? I don't mind that some games (still available on disc) get removed from a store, or that licensed games get delisted (nothing we can do about that short of having forked over enough of our gold to make a renewal financially interesting).. but that DLC and other digital-only content gets removed is a little sad. Many disc games do not get a DLC-on-disc version (and a lot of GOTY have that as a download code which will be useless coming summer) so that content is basically down the drain and lost to the ages. Even more games never even saw a pressing on disc; those are going to be (quite literally) unplayabe on the console if you didn't buy it. No, what really bugs me is the short notice of it all. Yes we could have foreseen this (and many see it as a 'logical' next step after last winter's dumb move): - First thing was the PS3/Vita stores didn't get the security upgrades (which is why credit cards and other methods of topping up your wallet don't work there anymore) - Secondly the removal of the consoles from the PC-based stores. We can only voice our complaints, but in the end we're the minority and can only vote with our wallets (and maybe have already voted when Sony reviewed the revenue of the axed stores). In the end all PSX, 2, 3, P, and Vita game data is going to be dead weight on their servers (remember, we can still re-download all we ever paid for). So uhh.. one last wave of 'old' games before they're shelved next to retro consoles like Wii? I had a handful of games on the PS3 that were on my watchlist, but I think I'll now simply never get them. And 30 EUR for a three-part DLC of 10 years ago is simply too much. Also no matter what we do Sony will think it was the right move: - A lot of us buy most of the wishlists, generating one final spike in revenues and therefor make the shutdown worth it. Sony made more in the past 4 months than in the past 3 years -> win! - We collectively shrug and vote 'no' with our wallets and unceremoniously drop our wishlist in the trash. The whole shutdown yielded nothing more than past years and silently died. Nobody cared! Why keep it then? -> win!

That’s probably why they’re killing off certain games because they weren’t profitable. Sony couldn’t care less about Knack 2 or Nex Machina because well, they didn’t sell all that well. But put out another Last of Us Part II, they’re raking in the money. Pretty soon we may have to pick up physical games on the legacy systems thru some second hand retailer or if you’re real lucky, someone on eBay will sell the game you want at a reasonable price. My main issue is the lack of time. A few short months just isn’t enough. This is going to get piracy to increase for the select few who still care about the older games. Some asshole like Jim Ryan steps in, someone who probably wasn’t familiar with Sony products prior, and everything starts going downhill. It’s happened to many other companies in the past. Just look at EA nowadays and tell me they still care about the ‘art’ in video games. That’s how a lot of big business works. If you think EA's bad, wait until you realize Activision is in the same, if not worse, position since someone who never, EVER sees gaming as art (Bobby Kotick) has been a CEO since the 90's. EA had got the bad change sometime on the way to the 2010s.

I would hope PS3 PSN or PS3 DLC purchases would appear for it based on a person's account but everything I've seen with the new store layout makes that seem impossible. If it's disc based emulation, that's less of a problem (just pop it and the PS5 recognizes it as a PS3 game). But so far with PS5, Sony hasn't given me any confidence. I imagine if they do anything it would either be through ps now or through a new emulation app called PlayStation legacy or something similar. Either way, it seems unlikely to be disc based it that's only my opinion and I don't know anything about how hard game emulation is to provide x)

I usually wait a year or two and see if a physical ever pops up, and if not, I wait until they're on sale for a reasonable amount. Even then, I still have a few hundred digital games across all my platforms with no physical alternative. With the PS5/XSX, I got a feeling more and more games are going to start becoming digital only as the generation goes on, and their likelihood of getting even limited physicals willl probably be even less than what it is now. There's already some games "this" (8th) gen that I'm kinda surprised didn't get physicals. Some games have gotten physicals later, like Hellblade and Hollow Knight, but it's always kind of a toss up whether or not something will get physical down the line, and it's generally only the at least semi-popular games that do. Really wish I could just stop buying digital games, but I know there's always going to be digital-only games I want, and that's going to overpower the other half of me that's "fuck digital".

Yeah, they are slowly phasing out physical with their products the wording just years of slowly getting away from retail copies it just gives them more control which also gives them potential for more profit. Lava_Yuki
I'm so gutted about this, I always play by vita and just platinumed persona 4 golden today. I have a lot of digital games compared to physical, good thing I've played most of them and downloaded all. If they are removing the store and also apparently the messaging system on vita, will the ability to earn and sync trophies stay or will they eventually remove that as well? If they do, then I would stop playing the vita for good but it's such a great console for trophy hunting on the go.

Caesar Clown
I'd really suggest buying any physical games you want now as well, because the market for physical PS3 games will change for the worst when the digital option is gone. None of us signed our soul to Playstation. I'm sticking with them too but just because I prefer their games and their developers to Xbox's. If in 5 or 10 years time, consoles don't have exclusives anymore and you can stream the other console's games to yours, I would have no problem playing on Xbox. The ones that "jumped ship" to PS4 did it because Sony was doing good stuff while Microsoft wasn't. Now they're going back because Microsoft is doing good stuff while Sony isn't. IMO it's more pathetic to say you'll only stick with one brand and you'll accept everything they do wrong and mock others for going where they'll get better value

Popular Post Caiphon
Honestly, not much to say that hasn't been said before. The most appalling thing in my opinion is how shady Sony has been in delivering these news. I know for a fact that not everyone has received their mail notification (as several of my friends found out by coincidence alone), there hasn't been a post on the PS blog, a tweet, or a video uploaded to their Youtube channel. As if they were hoping to sweep this under the rug despite "celebrating" their legacy in games like Astrobot. Not to mention the amount of gems that will cease to exist once the store shuts down. Games like Muramasa Rebirth or P4G for Vita (which at least released on PC but someone please remind me why there's no port on PS4/5?) or the countless PS classics like Alundra or Battlefront 2. Especially considering that any games that leave the PSNow service after the closure will essentially dissapear. As someone who was cautiously optimistic about the "Digital Age", this news have grounded me considerably. I was thinking about getting a PS5 later this year to play Demon's Souls or Spiderman: MM but that thought is going straight into the backburner because I have no guarantee that 5 or 10 years from now Sony won't try to do this exact same thing to the PS4.
