Ok so i got a ps3 again after a very long time and I was thinking of getting the platinum on fallout 3 and maybe fallout new vegas on this occasion. Now my question is: Is fallout 3 & new vegas on ps3 really that bad ? i mean the fps is really as bad as everyone say ?( for example a lot of people say that the fps in RDR 1 is terrible etc, but it seems ok to me. that is, considering that it is such an old game, it is normal to have fps drops sometimes, etc. but overall it's really playable) I know the save size bug for example if you have a save of y mb the game freezes etc. But is really that bad ? in conclusion: is it worth taking fallout3 & new vegas on ps3 ?

The frames drop dramatically once your save file reaches above 5MB or so. From then on, the game will freeze much more often so try to make manual saves as much as possible. My worst experiences occurred whenever I played the DLC content. Accessing the DLC areas made my game freeze nearly every minute. My opinion is the same for New Vegas and Skyrim. If you really want the platinums for Bethesda games on PS3, you'll have to be as patient as possible.

I have 100% in both and played through them many times before I became a trophy hunter, as they’re some of my favorite games. The majority of Fallout 3 is fine, I was able to do all the trophies in one save file without issue. HOWEVER the Broken Steel DLC in particular has horrendously bad FPS drops and crashes, I’m talking PowerPoint levels in one outdoor area near the end. I had to sprint into a door to transition areas because my PS3 crashed there at least 5 times. The other DLC have some issues as well, Point Lookout crashed a couple times, there’s a bug where two of the steel ingots you need for a trophy in The Pitt can fall through the map (I never experienced this), and there’s a bug where the Mothership Zeta DLC can fail to start properly (this one did happen to me, but I kept trying and it worked on the third or fourth attempt.) There is also an issue where enemies which are turned into piles of ash by energy weapons never despawn, which contributes to the overall bloat of your save file and will make the game run worse, so it’s best not to do an energy weapons build for your platinum save file.

Fallout: New Vegas is significantly more broken than Fallout 3. I have the Ultimate Edition disc, and I’ve heard people say the regular edition without the DLC runs better, but there’s only so long you can play before your FPS will start to tank. You can usually tell when it’s going to happen and just save and quit, restart your PS3 and it will be fine again. Certain areas in particular are really prone to FPS drops and crashes (Red Rock Canyon, the Gomorrah casino, etc.) and you will have to just get in, complete your objectives and get out. This one I completed across multiple playthroughs with different characters, instead of trying to do everything on one massive save file, although I did do all of the DLC on a single save without any problems. It was definitely frustrating, and up until I started playing Pathologic 2 it was absolutely the worst performance wise of any game I’ve decided to 100%, but if you enjoy New Vegas it’s completely doable.

I also 100% Skyrim on PS3 so perhaps I'm just a masochist. ?

I'm playing Fallout 3 right now and the game has only crashed once or twice. Frame rate drops happen when there's a bunch of stuff going on at once, but it's manageable. Trophies are a little glitchy too but as long as you save often, it's not a big deal. I had the level 20 karma trophies glitch (had to reload an old file a couple of times) and had to turn in a mission again over and over and Oasis took like 5 minutes to pop. Lol.

Fallout new vegas on the other hand had a few game-breaking bugs on my end that were much worse than 3. One where I was unable to save my game and another where a mission completely froze, and I was never able to finish that mission. I got so fed up with new vegas that I doubt I'll ever play it again and go for the plat.

I got 100% on both games, and the main problem I have was the framedrop this game gets over time and multiple crashes back in the day (GOTY v for FO3 and Ultimate Edition for FONV). If you are in just for the trophies you barely notice it, since the more you the bigger the save file and thats when you´ll notice problems, in my opinion you will have a better experience by far on a PC and in XBOX.
