High Stakes Treasure Map - Help Please

I’m trying to get the high stakes treasure map as I’m currently on level 8 for the explorers challenge (needed for 100%) trophy.

 

first time I saw the randomly spawning hunter I didn’t realize I had to rob him.  He had a good chat and he left - no map!

 

second time I saw him on the cliff edge north of strawberry I was prepared to a

lasso him but accidentally pulled out a pistol and shit him once, he fell off the cliff and died.  Went down to his body.....  no map.

 

ive been unable to find him again - will he respawn?

 

ive only met him twice so his map is not at the fence - needs 3 encounters 

 

any ideas/thoughts/suggestions?

He should respawn if you didn't loot the map, but if you have one, load an older save... Also keep checking the fences as sometimes it takes days for items to show up. Also, if I believe you can just look up where the treasure is on YouTube and collect it and would still count for the challenge since only the first challenge requires you to get a treasure map, the rest is collecting treasure.

if i just collect the treasure that would put me on Level 9 - one level short,  Ive done the other treasure hunts in the guide is there any other trasutre I could get to gain one more level?

in the end i could not get him to spawn or finish the reasure hunt.  I found another treasure hunt at https://levelskip.com/action-adventure/Red-Dead-Redemption-2-Explorer-Challenges that used to be PC specific that counts towards explorer challenge.

I had problems with this too. I ended up using the Landmarks of Riches trail which starts from an Obelisk at the far west of Big Valley (https://reddead.fandom.com/wiki/Landmarks_of_Riches_Map).
