RIP PSN Communities [Video]

I participated in a hundred of them. I met a lot of people, friendships, partners for boost, had some incredible communities about sharing screenshots for example (my source for profile covers lol) and, incredibly, it was possible to discuss some cool things there. However, the structure of the communities was limited. Few characters, inability to upload media or links, clutter in posts. The "activities" service, that social area of PSN, has always been terrible. the truth is that Sony provided a very poor service in this social area, but it was the only way to meet people within the platform.

Communities went downhill the second they allowed people to post whatever like disgusting pictures and porn. The amount of non gaming communities on there makes you just feel sick.
Banning people that got reported for it obviously wasn't working too well, they rather remove it completely than try to fix the issue.

I use to be in several communities around when they were first introduced and thought they were ayt but after awhile I just started to realize how shite majority of them were. From my experience they mostly ended up turning into a dump for screenshots of easy plats where folks would hardly ever engage in any sort of conversation other than (plat #2555 title - some pile of wank I bought just for platinum but I swear I actually enjoy em). Then you have the twats who come up with more communities than sluts in shitty brothels do stds that pester you with invites every day and the lovely bots who are so kind to offer you nudes without even getting your name... won't be missed.

By the way, I have nothing against easy plats as I do play a lot of them myself but there's a difference between easy triple a or indie games and something bought only for the trophies which you'll drop after only 5 minutes because it's been obtained, those are the ones I'm on about.

The sad thing is that with the PS5, u cant even see the "Whats New" section where u always saw what ur friends were up to which games and trophies they got and all that. That was the least they could include, it feels like u cant keep in touch with ur friends and fellow hunters anymore, no shared screenshots, where u can comment and like stuff, no section to check out what's up with ur list nothing.

I had not been online for about a week so after I installed the patch, I get a ton of messages saying that new posts had been posted in my communities.

Of course when I clicked those updates that apparentely were "a few hours ago" it said the features had been removed.

It's a pretty unsettling path Sony is taking in the past few month. I never used the comunity function that often, but in some cases ( like for small games ) it was a great feature to find perple to help you out. I do think Sony cuts out everything that doesn't generate enough ( or any ) profit

* PS Plus won't have monthly PS3 and Vita Games anymore...

* Vita and PS3 games can't be bought via browser anymore, only via console later...

* The whole PS3 Vita section will be down.

* No more communites...

* New psn store ( at least from a pc perspective ) is a complete mess up ( wishlist, order system etc... )

I mean, okay from an economic point of view I do understand that a billion dollar company has to focus on money and profit margin, but loosing the focus on more and more smaller topics, customers do care about might take revenge at some point later on. And I really do feel that Sony has a very lousy customer loyalty nowadays.

There are even many more things they did in the past I can't understand, like the trophy reform ( raising the level to 999 with the most stupid conversion factor ever ) or the utterly stupid dhashboard for the ps5 ( where are my fucking custom folders ?? )

Let's wait what will come next = )

I have been a member of a few Communities over the years but most of them were either dead or dying and had been for a long time, plus I can think of a couple I quickly vacated due to the toxic, horrible atmosphere they created because the owners didn't care and just let people get away with murder. Of the active communities I was a part off, most were just screenshot fests so stagnated in double quick time so I rarely bothered with them.

Communities may not have been used by many for the purpose it was once designed for, but the feature was amazingly effective in getting help in the Soulsborne games (setting up passwords for matchmaking).

It was also fairly useful for asking questions for games that don't have much internet information available and only other players had the answers.

I will admit there were plenty of dead communities, or those with no other function than a twitter feed of screenshots or status updates; no conversation of any kind.

Was it at any point available on the PS5?

Makes me wonder what other feature will they be stripping away next. :/ I was a part of a few small communities and I'll miss them.

The PS3 and Vita had a ton of stuff hacked out of them over the years so it won't be long before the PS4 feels the full brunt of Sony's shears. My guess is the Apps and streaming options will be the next thing to be pruned, since I can't imagine Sony cares all that much for some of them. I also wouldn't be surprised if Sony eventually cuts more stuff from the PS3, Vita and PSP, even though the loss of the respective storefronts is a fatal blow in itself.
