No story mode sadly.

Honestly, does it really matter at this point? Not being snarky here, just want to point out that I haven't found a decent campaign mode since Bad Company 2. BF1 and SW Battlefront II were bearable, but they seemed to be more a tutorial for the MP. If they are not going to take the time and dedicate the resources to make good one, just ditch and focus on MP; that's just me I guess.

In any case, the trailer looks encouraging (and fun) and didn't make me want to spray myself with pepper spray like the BFV trailer, but I have been duped before with BF. Hoping for the best here.

I was really hoping for a new Battlefield 2142 set in the far future.

In my opinion 2006's Battlefield 2142 still is the best. It had everything the current Battlefield games do but it also had Mechs, hover tanks and large flying bases called Titans. I still remember landing drop pods on the enemies Titan, fighting your way to the core, detonating it then running and parachuting off the side before it exploded.

The Titan game mode was the best and Dice haven't topped it since.

Battlefield started out as a multiplayer only game so them making the choice to ditch singleplayer is no surprise. It gives them more money, time and resources to put into the multiplayer. Battlefield players barley touch the singleplayer any way.

yes back in 2001 putting it at full price for a multiplayer game was the norm. it is very brave when theyre are so many free to play games that offer the same things that battlefield does.

I'm excited! What is the cross-gen bundle tho? I'd assume you'll also get the PS4 version when you buy the PS5 Gold/Ultimate edition. However, the store lists it as "only playable on PS5" but also "optimized for PS4 Pro". I mean, what?! Did someone already pre-order the Gold/Ultimate Edition and can verify you'll get both platforms?

Trying to answer my own question:

Pre-ordered the Gold Edition, the name of the game in the confirmation mail is "Battlefield™ 2042 Gold Edition PS4™ & PS5™". I also can't buy the PS4 standard edition anymore (this still worked a few days ago, even after pre-ordering, but not anymore, just checked it) because it says it conflicts with my purchase "Battlefield 2042 Gold Edition Pre-Order". However, Battlefield 2042 is not listed in my PS4's library. It is only listed in the PS App as "in library" but only with the PS5 badge and still listed as "only playable on PS5".

So I think everything is going as expected with the cross-gen bundle but it takes some time to be visible in the PS4 library. Maybe it's not there until the game releases, who knows.

As far as i understand it, you have no cross buy in the standard edition (ps4 70/ ps5 80 bucks). Gold and ultimate edition are cross buy.

Are you guys excited? How do you feel about the setting? Are you upset there isn’t a campaign and did you pre-order?

Personally I’m hoping for something in the vein of Battlefield 3/Battlefield 4 but with the movement and fortifications features of Battlefield V. I would like more customization options and hopefully not as much dependence on micro transactions.(Though this is EA so I’m not holding my breath) I know Battlefield V suffered a lot at launch and I didn’t like it much when I first picked it up but I’ve been playing this and Battlefield 1 and I think Battlefield V gets a bad wrap. (Though it was well earned at launch)

I pre-ordered because I am very excited for a return to the modern setting and I’m interested to see what DICE brings to the table.(I also have a PS5 so I wanted the last-gen and next gen copies because my wife doesn’t have a PS5 yet)

I am slightly concerned about the shift from classes to an operator centric approach with special gadgets. It can either be really great or reviled by the community. I’ve played every Battlefield game since Bad Company 2 and my wife and I play Battlefield V a lot together.

It seems the big Battlefield 2042 new mode reveal has leaked ahead of the official announcement. This new mode is called “Battlefield

Portal,” and it will give players access to content from past Battlefield games — Battlefield 1942, Bad Company 2, and Battlefield 3.

This new mode, which is being worked on by Ripple Effect Studios, is a highly-customizable, community-driven experience where players can build and share their own custom game modes that can be played straight from the game. The main Battlefield Portal menu will feature three options: one for DICE-created experiences, a second one for community-driven modes curated by DICE which rotate, and then the editor itself.

This Battlefield Portal includes content from three classic games mentioned above (BF 1942, BC2, BF3) with specific weapons, vehicles, and gadgets, The Portal will also bring back six classic Battlefield maps which include Caspian Border and Noshar Canals from BF3, Battle of the Bulge and El Alamein from BF1942, and Arica Harbor and Valparaiso from BC2!

All six maps have been rebuilt from the ground up in the Frostbite engine and reimagined with modern tech. The map layouts are as close to the originals as possible, but older maps from BF1942 have destruction physics added.

For the editor, players will have unprecedented control, as the player can select the game mode they want to focus on (which includes Rush which isn’t in the BF2042), and they even have the option to “center” each team on a specific Battlefield game. Say, you want WW2 soldiers to go up against BF2042’s Specialists, you can do that. This applies to weapons, gadgets and vehicles too. Players can customize these and control which ones are available by enabling or disabling over 100 options.

In fact, I already pre-ordered and I'm super excited. I'm more excited for the Portal than BF2042 itself.

According to a post on Reddit, the Battlefield 2042 beta will be available to pre-load on September 3 at 9pm BST

The Battlefield 2042 beta dates appear to have been revealed ahead of schedule.

EA recently confirmed plans to hold a Battlefield 2042 open beta in September. Furthermore, it was announced that pre-order customers will get early access.

While Electronic Arts is yet to officially announce dates for the Battlefield 2042 beta, a recent leak appears to have shed light on the matter.

Pre-order customers will be able to start playing the Early Access beta from 9pm BST on September 4.

Fortunately, there's not too long to wait for the beta to launch in full, as the open beta kicks off at the same time on September 6.

If the leaks are to be believed, the beta ends later that week on the afternoon of September 11.

It's a pretty extensive beta period, lasting a full week for anybody who pre-orders the game early.

Once the beta comes to an end, EA has just over a month to put the finishing touches on what is shaping up to be one of the biggest games of the year.

I really hope that the classic maps will be or become available in the other modes as well. Loved bfbc2 and im very excited for valparaiso and arica harbour. Also norshar canals tdm is fast paced and fun. I already see them handling portals as a custom mode without any xp gain or stats progression... -_-

No, they don't. Fortunately.

Earn XP no matter how you play. Progression is shared between Battlefield 2042 and Battlefield Portal, which means you're constantly feeding your rank and Battle Pass.

Set in Kourou, French Guiana, the Battlefield 2042 Orbital map lets players experience a race against time in hostile conditions as they battle around the site of an imminent rocket launch. Sectors found in this map include the Assembly Building, the Launch Platform and the Crawlerway connecting the two. Turns out the digital PS4 standard edition will have a free upgrade to PS5. So you can pay for the $59.99 to get two trophy lists, I would assume.

There are no shared PS4/PS5 trophy lists so yes, two trophy lists. Which of course will lead to the same inevitable threads we’ve now seen dozens of times…
