Popular Post StewartBros
See, I don't agree with the "online trophies ruin games" thing. If I look back at some of the great games I've played over the years, like GTA V, The Last Of Us, AC Black Flag, Red Dead 1 and Uncharted 4, they were all games that I really loved, and in some cases, played on both PS3 and PS4. They all had great stories, or likeable characters, or solid gameplay, or some other aspect(s) that mean that I hold them in high regard. I don't then look at their MP trophies and think "Oh, it has multiplayer. Maybe this game isn't as good as I thought it was. Better drop it down to a 7 or an 8 out of 10". The suggestion that a game can be "ruined by multiplayer" is just absurd to me. If you're not a fan of playing online, then don't play online. I do agree that some games have included a tacked-on and completely unnecessary MP component, like Arkham Origins and Tomb Raider 2013, but those MP components did not impact how I viewed those games' stories, because they are two separate entities. Arkham Origins's MP was at least fairly unique, and tried to do something different, but players just didn't take to it (or that game's story either apparently), but the story mode doesn't suffer because of it. I see some people posting here and there that they won't even play certain games that feature multiplayer. Seems to me that this is just because they're scared that they MIGHT not be able to complete said game to 100%. Maybe it's just me, maybe I'm getting (in the words of Roger Murtaugh) too old for this shit, but refusing to buy or play a game that has a multiplayer aspect that you're not being forced to play in the first place just seems ludicrous. I mean, each to their own, but that's my two cents worth.
Shinoda_2qx
The 4 x 10k kill trophies on Battlefield Hardline killed the game for me. Not because of difficulty, but because of boredom. I work full time, I don’t have the time to go rack up 40,000 kills on a single game. I wouldn’t have time to play anything else for a year. The draft trophies on the Fifa games are ridiculous to anyone who doesn’t exclusively play Fifa. I think I did 15, 16, 18, but gave up on 17 and 19. NBA 2K14... reaching top division on that killed me.

I mean, each to their own, but that's my two cents worth. The PS3/Xbox 360 generation was dominated by online multiplayer and thus the people who designed trophies/achievements had some rather grindy online trophies in them. I will say this. Red Dead Redemption is probably my #1 favorite game of the PS3 generation, but I would by outright lying if I said some of the online trophies in the game didn't give me some trouble or frustration. I had to boost Kingpin which requires no less than nine players and do advanced co-op with a team of four, that was often times unreliable. Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, very enjoyable pirate game, likable protagonist, but an absolutely tacked on multiplayer. Level 55 took me 15 hours of mindlessly playing Wolfpack over and over, and Sacred Land of course requires four people and it has to be boosted. I did all this just a few weeks ago so my memory is quite fresh. The single player in contrast was enjoyable, taking me around 33 hours to finish everything. I don't think anyone who fully did Uncharted 2 and Uncharted 3 to 100 percent completion on the PS3 is going to look back and say they were fully enjoyable, due to some nightmare stories I heard about the treasures being completely random. You have to note that this is a trophy hunting website. Over 95 percent of gamers out there couldn't care less if games get online trophies/achievements or not, because obviously they don't care about trophies. Nowadays, the trophy requirements for multiplayer are a lot less ludicrous. The games that have extensive multiplayer required for the platinum are games that were built around multiplayer from the ground up. Friday the 13th: The Game is a good example. Battlefield V. Destiny 2. Call of Duty has a mixture of both single player and multiplayer, but anybody at this point knows what Call of Duty is, and the games for the most part are going to have multiplayer. Games on the PS4 and PS5 that are mostly single player will have a couple online trophies here and there. But it certainly wasn't anything like it was back in 2008 - 2012, when a lot of games that were mostly single player had a tacked on multiplayer where you had to play for 10 - 30 hours or more. Trophy hunters on this website don't look and play games in the same fashion as your average casual gamer does.

There was a trophy to complete every single online challenge - if you don't know, it was like CoD/BF style challenges - get 200 kills with X weapon. This also included killstreaks, vehicle kills, equipment etc. To put it in perspective, you need to get a 10 kill streak with every weapon and for the camo and 200 kills to "expert" it. I did every single challenge online apart from one. It was 6am and decided to finish it tomorrow for the platinum. I woke up the next day to see that THQ went bankrupt and shut the servers. One challenge left. Ever since then, I ALWAYS look at the trophy lists, and plan out the online first to get them done ASAP so this never happens again. DAMN. that’s fucked up man…

Pretty much everyone who has done the Kingpin trophy will have boosted it, I'd imagine. It must be next to impossible to earn legitimately. Anyone could claim to have done it legit, but you could never prove it. 12 minutes ago, AJ_Radio said: Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, very enjoyable pirate game, likable protagonist, but an absolutely tacked on multiplayer. Yes, the online in AC IV was a grind (I even did it on both PS3 and PS4!), but like I said in my previous post, MP grinding doesn't detract from my enjoyment of a game's single player. I know, but some people on this site just take trophy hunting far too seriously, like it's a job where anything less than full completion is viewed as failure. For example, I'm currently playing the GTA V Heists with a few guys, and our main "rule" going in was not to take it too seriously and just enjoy ourselves. We've made mistakes, we've failed missions and had to quick restart. We've accidentally run each other over in our cars, accidentally shot each other or blown ourselves up, or been sliced up by helicopter blades when our pilot flies in to pick the rest of us up. But you know what, we've had a lot of fun and some great laughs in the process, and that's what co-op play should be about. We're also not bothering with the Elite Challenge or Criminal Mastermind trophies, as none of us want to overshadow that fun with 30+ hours of frustration by playing the missions over and over again and trying to meet multiple criteria per mission. Going for those 2 trophies possibly WOULD ruin our enjoyment of GTA V, which is why we're happy to leave them alone.

PostGameBlues
Assassin's Creed Black Flag. I loved that game and pretty much did everything in the game. I tried to power through the multiplayer mode to get the online trophies but it's way too boring and tedious. I might go back to it at some point and finally tough it out but yeah, the MP mode killed my liking of the game as a whole.

To be honest I wasn't sure if I was ever going to go back to Red Dead Redemption having earned the platinum back in 2016. But a boosting group on PS App convinced me to go back and get the rest of the online done. The normal co-op missions were fun, but the advanced co-op requires at least a couple competent players. I was sort of carried with two others, the third guy with me was basically a scrub but we got all the missions done. The River was by far the most difficult due to its length. I did Posse Up and that Free for All trophy completely legit. I sunk over 200 hours in Red Dead Redemption online, mostly back in 2013 - 2014 before I was concerned with trophies. 1 hour ago, StewartBros said: Yes, the online in AC IV was a grind (I even did it on both PS3 and PS4!), but like I said in my previous post, MP grinding doesn't detract from my enjoyment of a game's single player. Thinking of stacking Assassin's Creed Rogue, since it's more of the same naval combat and style I loved in Black Flag. 1 hour ago, StewartBros said: For example, I'm currently playing the GTA V Heists with a few guys, and our main "rule" going in was not to take it too seriously and just enjoy ourselves. You need a real serious team for those last two trophies in the GTA Doomsday Heist. I will probably never get it, but I'm going to try to get those Survival trophies in Uncharted 4. With the number of people willing to carry others in that game, I don't see why I shouldn't jump at that chance.

shaneyboy619
For me it's the "Wanted" trophy from GTA IV, it's the last trophy that I need for the platinum and I worked so hard towards that platinum back in the day but in the end that grind was just too much for me and put me off the game entirely for a long time. I actually tried going back to it years later but in that time I had bought a new PS3 and so I no longer had my save data and I just couldn't face starting the grind from scratch again. I also absolutely hated the "Auf Wiedersehen Petrovic" trophy and the fact that I got that but not the platinum makes it that much worse.

Vampirehunter145
One example that comes to my head: Darksiders II. In a franchise with 4 games heavily depending on hack'n slash and a single-player adventure/history/narrative, they had to stone 1 miserable online trophy on Darksiders II. ONE ("Pay it forward"). The year i decide to hammer away at the game (because i love the character of Death being one wise badass MF and also the older of four siblings just as i am in my family), i discover the online servers of this game were shut in 2016 stripping me away of one nice plat. Just because of this, i am considering buying the "Deathinitive"Edition on the PS4. Edited May 18, 2021 by Vampirehunter145

Guardian_owl
Binary Domain. After you suffer through a literal week of boosting the competitive multiplayer mode with a group, you still have to complete the horde mode on 3 different maps. Each run involves setting aside about 3 hours to do all 50 rounds. If anyone temporarily loses connection during that 3 hours, they get dropped from the game and can't come back. If the HOST happens to lose connection during that 3 hours, host duty migrates to another player, you get STRIPPED of all your purchased gear, and the round restarts; ensuring your inevitable death if it happened above round 35 or so. I'll probably never get the plat as all my runs kept getting thwarted by mine or my teammate(s) losing connection.
