Popular Post xItsLesterx
Update #3 Here we are, with what might be my 2nd to last update ? I was able to squeeze in another full game before the event ends. Finished up Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor. I really needed a chill game like this. Good game. I ended up having a harder time doing the trophies for the trials in the DLC than the main-story trophies. Story was ok, but I am playing its sequel so hopefully it'll expand it a lot more. 1 - Nioh (10% => 100%) 2 - Nioh 2 (0% => 100%) 3 - Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor (1% => 100%) Great to see everyone's progress and how you guys got a lot more done than I did ? We'll just keep the moment for the Spring Challenge.
Popular Post KimBongUn420
Final Update: #141 Ghost Recon: Breakpoint Difficulty 4/10 Grind 3/10 Enjoyment 4/10 So this game gets a very bad rap, for lots of valid reasons. When it released it could be charitably described as "complete dumpster fire" and 2 years later a substantial portion of the game is still not good. The UI, in particular, is by far the worst UI of any of the ~200 video games I've played in my lifetime. It takes up almost 50% of the screen when everything is enabled and the menus are a complete mess. The first generation of BMW's iDrive is easier to use than this game, no joke. The map is a total pain in the ass to get around because the terrain detection is so janky. The GR devs must have had a sliding fetish bc half the time you traverse you're sliding down rocky hills, until you run out of stamina and start flailing uncontrollably down a hill like a stunt in a Jackass movie. The easiest way to get around the map is to buy the most expensive helicopter and fly everywhere, which completely defeats the purpose of the large, open world map. The facial animations look like a PS2 game. The story is horrible, keeping in fine tradition with previous GR games. The villain of the main story is entirely forgettable and I'm not sure why all the baddies have horrible southern accents. Also, gear score makes yet another appearance, since Ubisoft seems hell bent on turning every single one of its open world games into The Division. At least there's an option to disable gear score for the campaign, although it's still required for the raid. Speaking of the raid, I didn't do it because I was so burnt out on the game that I didn't want to spend any more time than the 35 hours I put into it. The Ghost War PvP mode is fine, borderline good even. The sad thing is, underneath all of the mistakes and crap that Ubisoft put in this game, there remains a very competent shooter with good gun feel and endless customization options. Had Ubisoft simply iterated on Wildlands, which was a great game, I really thing Breakpoint could have been something good. The added content that Ubisoft put in the game in an effort to salvage its disastrous launch is pretty decent. Episode 3 in particular is well done, and the crossovers with other franchises are a reminder of the glory days of Wildlands and previous GR titles. The next GR title is rumored to be a Battle Royale which is proof that Ubisoft has no goddamn idea what to do with this franchise. It also probably marks the end of me playing this series, which is a shame as it's been one of my favorites. Wish they'd just Old Yeller it like Splinter Cell. Overall 4.5/10, and the only reason it's that high is the core gameplay is still decent, it's an ok way to mindlessly kill some time, and Ubisoft's fixes and added content since release have taken the game from "LOL KILL IT WITH FIRE" to "deeply mediocre." An ignoble end for a once-glorious franchise. Now, onto what was probably the most disappointing game I played this entire challenge: #142 Life is Strange 2 Difficulty 2/10 Grind 3/10 Enjoyment 3/10 Ugh. This game was a massive letdown. I enjoyed the first game and Before the Storm, though both had their considerable flaws, but LIS2 took all of the good ideas and things from those games and chucked them into a woodchipper. I'll do something different and start with the good things first. The music is great, as always. The art and visuals are good and significantly improved from the first games. Episode 3 is one of the best episodes out of any of the first 3 LIS games. Onto the bad. The writing is utter shit. It's David Cage levels of awful. Nearly all of the characters are somehow overwritten and underwritten at the same time, a paradox that is so incredible Schrödinger himself probably wouldn't believe it. Sean is a completely forgettable main character. I assume the writers wanted to make Daniel be as insanely fucking annoying as possible, because I spent the first 4 episodes trying to figure out how to get the cops to come arrest him so I didn't have to deal with him anymore. In the 5th episode, he makes a face turn that's so unbelievable, Vince McMahon would be proud. (I realize that turn has to do with my choices, but still). There were at least 20 times in the story where the characters made uncontrollable decisions that were completely devoid of logic, purely in order to further the plot. 19 of these occurred in Episode 4, which is by far the worst episodes of this entire franchise and had plot holes so big you could drive a convoy of eighteen wheelers through them. Karen randomly appearing at the beginning with almost zero explanation gave me flashbacks to the opening titles from Rise of Skywalker (the Emperor's back you guise!!! He was alive all along!!). I was actually laughing at the end when the church is on fire and after 5 minutes of doing nothing as the church goes up in flames around them, the pastor tries to recreate the prom scene from Carrie, for absolutely zero reason. The game clearly wants to make a statement about injustice and racism, but it's written so terribly and with such a heavy hand that it becomes completely impossible to take seriously. Instead of taking two or three moments where Sean and Daniel are treated poorly (for being transients, half-Mexican, or both) and focusing on the reasons and the relationships behind them, the game has like ten of these moments and continuously beats you, the player, over the head that all of the people who oppose Sean and Daniel are purely evil and beyond saving. For a game that's all about decisions and making choices and understanding character interactions, this makes absolutely no sense. It's yet another example of where the writing and characters are not very well done. At the end of the day. the game fails its story and characters, fails at being a realistic narrative tale, and fails in its messaging. I do give it lots of redeeming points for Episode 3. Shame the other 4 episodes aren't even close to that caliber. Overall 4/10. With that, I'm 100% done with this challenge! Good luck to everyone trying to finish in the next two weeks and see y'all in the next one. The last 4 Bronze were a pain which had me Grinding to level 270, defeating 2 end game bosses (lvl 280+) on the hardest difficulty, and beating 12 hardcore missions solo (since my internet sucked up until a week ago....yea starlink). Pushed all the way to level 300 just to give myself the level and stat boost needed to beat these challenges, but even then it took several attempts to do. With the next challenge starting in just over 2 weeks I do not think I would be able to finish Digimon Cyber Sleuth Hackers Memory in time, so I am going to let that one sit on the back burner until March and pick it up then. For now, I am going to start God of War 3 Remaster because I believe I can get that one done in these last few days. It feels good to get that one done after 7 years. I was stuck on 8-1 until I got a good Barbara's Easy Blaster and leveled it up and modded it enough. That let me finally beat that mission and then everything else was much easier after that. I wish I had a reason to keep running around with my now fully leveled up Blaster, but the online is shut down. Maybe I'll look into that XLink Kai stuff at some point, but for now the backlog calls. Popular Post YaManSmevz
Toasty War Journal #21 2/14/22 What's up everybody? A happy Valentine's Day to you all, and I hope it finds you with lots of nice, fluffy love in your life - be it romantic, familial, friendly, or otherwise. Murdered: Soul Suspect was a good time! A heavily flawed game, but that's only noticeable because of how good it is and how much potential it had to be great, if that makes sense. A solid concept with excellent atmosphere, but they just tried to add too many things on top that didn't work so well. And 200+ collectibles?? UNNECESSARY, MY GUY. Started Sleeping Dogs, and man. What a fitting title, cuz I been sleepin on this one for far too long. A great story, a fun world to explore, and addictive gameplay. Can't ask for much more than that! If I can get this close to completion (at least) by the week's end, I'll be on track. Was gonna start Ethan Carter this week, but it looks like I could knock it out in a day, so that one has become my new final game for the challenge! Besides, the genie's out the bottle at this point... I'm having too much fun with Sleeping Dogs to bother with much else! Which brings me to RE 5. Bro, Desperate Escape on Professional was rough! After a while it just turned into a speed run where I hoped the RNG would be nice to me. Got it taken care of though, and now it's down to the final playthroughs (with infinite magnum and rocket launcher, wooooo) and multiplayer, which I'll be dippin into this week as well. Some of y'all are so close, you've got me inspired to finish strong!! Congrats to @KimBongUn420 for getting the early wrap-up, great reviews as well! Popular Post KunoGuy
Update #6 Been extra busy right now so I'm starting to use some more swaps. Did finish some really fun PS5 games as well as Kaze and the Wild Masks on PS4. Kaze was a bit challenging for me, especially the no hit runs, but it made earning the platinum that much better. I also really enjoyed Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart on PS5. It's been a great example of the better graphics and really fun storytelling albeit someone shorter. But it's a solid gem to me. Another great game was Astro's Playroom on PS5. It's a good demonstration of the dualsense as well as having some neat easter eggs strewn throughout the levels. I wish they could make a sequel soon. I am swapping these last two in since time is running out. As far as theist goes I've pretty much completed one solitary mission on Sniper Ghost Warrior which in truth is no better than the first update Away from the challenge I managed to get the Wildlands season pass at a good price so made a start on the DLC from the last challenge. Popular Post rebeccafar
So this will be my second last update! I have used another swap as I've just not had much time at all, I bought myself Subnautica: Below Zero for xmas so I played it this week when I had a bit time over Resident Evil 2 because I just don't think I have the time to finish that game atm. Can't recommond Subnautica games enough though I really enjoy the exploration of the game, really great games! I'm so close to finishing Superhot I have like 3 challenges left to get through so really hoping to finish it before February and maybe get the last bits of Dead Island done too. Among Us (100%) Carto (100%) Dead Island - Definitive Edition (88%) Gris (100%) Life is Strange - Before the Storm (100%) Mafia (100%) Resident Evil 2 Subnautica: Below Zero (100%) Superhot (73%) Undertale (100%) Vampyr (100%) (2 swaps used)

Pyre Swapped for Agatha Christie: The ABC Murders Resident Evil 4 Swapped for Wreckfest Time for another update! Anyone fancy tying my hands behind my back to stop me from quoting the Muse song I keep thinking about every time I think about the end of the challenge?..... I'm sure you know the one, if not, why not. I ended up getting a little distracted last week, for one reason or another. Real life, that sort of thing, you guys know the drill. I didn't game all that much, but I did manage to get two more completions knocked out. I've basically got a week to kill off four games - one of which is quite long? Can I manage it? Who knows, I can only try - I guess I could go all Carl from Beholder and just not sleep for a week, but I fear if I did that, then I'd likely not be able to take part in the spring challenge as I'd probably have to spend the entire spring sleeping I can live with losing a tiny bit of challenge progress to be able to finally have a gaming session with @YaManSmevz though, that was awesome. Even if we were just shooting each other in the face in the hot African sun in Resident Evil 5 - plus I almost got Resident Evil 5 to 100% myself, so I'd consider that a bit of backlog progress anyway, even if I can't include it in the event! So what did I think of the newest completions? Thoughts on Wreckfest Damn! What an absolutely surprising game this was....no seriously, it really was. The upside to going into games with practically no expectations is that every now and then you can have a really enjoyable time like I did with this game. Is it the best game I've ever played? No, nor the best racer - but I'd be very comfortable in saying that it's actually quite good. It's got some brilliant attention to detail with it's various states of difficulty, which is pretty cool. It essentially allows you to play the game however you wanted to. Fancy a thrilling knock about where you can cause as much carnage as possible, whilst racing? You can do that. Or..... if you fancy something a little more simulation-ish turn the damage to realistic and fiddle around with the A.I difficulty and you'd get a pretty interesting almost arcade-simulation racing hybrid. There's just a lot of variety - if you have this on your backlog from when it was given away free on PS5 and think you might enjoy it, it definitely can be a fun little time. If you wanted to read a little bit more about my time with it, like frantically driving away from some Big Rig Trucks in a three wheeled car (yes if you're from the UK the kind you're thinking of,) then I'll leave a link to my thoughts here Thoughts on Agatha Christie: The ABC Murders Oh dear.... This is one of those times where I found the game to neither be good, or bad - just inoffensive and a little bland and flavourless.... I was really looking forward to this game, and I had genuinely high hopes for it. I imagine this is what it feels like if you went to order one of those ultra luxury pizzas that have truffles and gold leaf on them. Then.... when your order arrives it's a circular disc of cardboard with some red felt-tip pen all over it it, some hay instead of cheese and some sliced hot dogs with pepperoni written on them with a sharpie. ? Ahem.... anyway, it's been at least a week since I've made a hackneyed strange analogy, so I had to make another one at some point soon. AND IT FEELS GREAT..... ? Yeah, The ABC Murders is fine - it's just not going to blow you away, or probably do anything exciting for you really. It isn't a waste of time - but it also isn't probably a good use of your time. These are the games that frustrate me the most - where, it's not even bad enough to be mad about it, or good enough to really even praise it, what an odd situation. On the off-chance that you stumbled through the street, then fell directly onto a lit crackpipe and inhaled (hey you never know, stranger things have happened,) and you'd like to hear in detail exactly why I couldn't quite get on with The ABC Murders I guess I'll leave a link for that here too. At least I can say that I've seen Hercule Poirot become one with a table, I guess I never expected that one. Anyway..... I've taken up more than enough of your time! Keep up the awesome updates people! We're in the final stretch and so many of you have been absolutely killing it still, so it's nice to have plenty of inspirational things to read, which is a big help in keeping me motivated! Catch you in the next one folks! Edited February 21, 2022 by rjkclarke

Popular Post Static_Rook
Final Update - 2/21/2022 Didn't make any more progress on any games on my list, and I don't want to try and binge anything before Elden Ring so I'm gonna go ahead and call it a week early. Ended up at 11 of 31 games complete. I didn't expect to finish all 31, but I was hoping to hit 20 or so. Eleven is still more than I would have completed without taking part in the challenge though so I'm happy with that number regardless. Cleared out some games that were on my backlog for 7+ years as well as a couple big, recent titles. I'm also happy that I managed to finish Freedom Wars before the end of the challenge, too. All in all, another fun event that kept me motivated through some dreary months. I enjoyed reading everyone's updates and I'm looking forward to the Spring challenge. See you there!
