Each episode is sold separately, which is pretty much add-on content for episode 1. There's also games like Skate 3 which require a share pack, which recently became free. It works on a marketing perspective because it forces the person to buy all of the episodes in order to play the full game and get the trophies. To me DLC's are extra content.
