Popular Post Dreggit
Good evening everyone, August was a fun month for me. But hey! This isn't about me! Please join me in welcoming @SlimSanta94! SlimSanta94 Standard Questions How did you come up with your PSN name? I got the name from a parody of a song by Eminem called “The Real Slim Santa”. I found it hilarious when I was a kid and it just stuck with me. What games convinced you get your PlayStation 3, Playstation Vita, PlayStation 4 and Playstation 5? Playstation 3 – Fallout 3. It was also the game that converted me to Sony, before I saw that game back in 2008 I was strictly a Nintendo kid. Playstation Vita – There weren’t any in particular since my first Vita was a gift from a relative, but I believe the first game I played on it was Sound Shapes. Playstation 4 – Fallout 4. Unfortunately I played it and couldn’t get into it. Playstation 5 – Resident Evil Village. I HAD to have a PS5 to play that. What are your top 5 game series and why? In no particular order: Bioshock – I’ll elaborate a bit more on why I like Bioshock so much later, but in my opinion you would be very hard pressed to find a better trilogy of games on Playstation. The Legend Of Zelda – This needs no introduction, every game in this series innovates in one way or another and is just amazing and a joy to play. I find myself constantly replaying Zelda games, it just never gets old to me. Metroid – I unfortunately missed out on this series growing up but I was always quite captivated by it until I finally got to play Super Metroid when I got my Wii in 2007. There was just something about the powerful atmosphere these games give off that lures you in and when it does you’re met with some of the best games you’ll ever play. Castlevania – I am a massive horror fan so I was just naturally drawn to this series. The Castlevania games, particularly the classics on the NES & SNES, have everything I love in a game. Fun and engaging gameplay, really good music and are very challenging. I recently finished Symphony of the Night for the first time and it’s still an incredible experience 25 years after its release. Resident Evil – This is another series I was drawn in by because of my love for horror but it wasn’t actually one that I liked initially. I used to watch my brother play RE2 on the PS1 and thought it looked pretty bad but when I took a dive into the series myself a decade later I found the games to be really good. There are still some that I haven’t played since I was quite late into the series but the ones I have were incredible from start to finish. Honorable Mentions – Mega Man, Rock Band, The Elder Scrolls What are your top 5 games and why? Again in no particular order: The Legend Of Zelda: Majora’s Mask – My favorite game from my favorite series. I didn’t actually get to play this entry until quite late (Around 2010) but when I did I fell in love with it immediately. It retains the great gameplay of Ocarina of Time and also provides a really in depth and fascinating story and world to explore through. Bioshock – This game is a work of art, I find everything about it to be perfect and it’s one of the few games that I wish I could play for the first time again. Doom (1996) – This was another game that I played quite late. This game seems to just age like fine wine, no matter how many times you come back to it, you will always find yourself having a blast. Overwatch – I literally couldn’t put this game down when I got it. I had never played anything like it before and its gameplay and characters resonated with me in a way that I still play it 5 years after getting the platinum trophy. Super Metroid – This is my favorite game, ever. I didn’t get to play it until I got my Nintendo Wii but when you play it the atmosphere of the game hooks you in and then you find yourself hooked because the game is just perfect. Honorable Mentions – Dungeon Keeper, Crypt of the Necrodancer, Pokemon Ruby. Which unreleased game(s) are you looking forward to the most and why? I haven’t been keeping too up to date with upcoming games apart from the Switch recently, though I am very keen to play Back 4 Blood when that is released. I put so many hours into Left 4 Dead back in the day so I’m very excited for a game with a similar format to be on the way! Do you have any other hobbies outside of gaming? I am very much into music production, practicing all my instruments, skateboarding, yoga, learning and trying new things and I’ve most recently gotten into photography. Top 5 TV shows, Movies, and/or anime, why, and would you recommend them to people? Breaking Bad – This is honestly the best show ever made, an absolute must watch for any TV lover. If you’ve already seen it then what are you waiting for? GO AND WATCH IT AGAIN! Star Trek – Preferably the 60’s series. You could say this is a guilty pleasure depending how you look at it, but I find that there’s just so much charm and it only increases with age. Who Killed Captain Alex? – I’m not exaggerating when I say this is the ultimate “it’s so bad it’s good” movie. It is a Ugandan action movie with a practically non existent budget but trust me, it’s a really funny film and there’s so much heart put into it and it really shows. Invite a friend over, look this movie up on Youtube (the full movie is on there) and get ready to almost die laughing. You can thank me later. Castlevania – The anime on Neflix. Movie/TV show adaptations tend to have a pretty bad reputation but this one is actually surprisingly very good. Play, Watch, Listen – This is actually a podcast so not sure if this counts. But it’s hosted by 4 people that are closely connected to the video game industry in very different ways. It’s very interesting to get their insight on how the industry works and on other topics, I highly recommend, as it’s nice and chill to listen to while gaming. Top 5 favorite music bands/group/artists/composers/ost? Alice In Chains Linkin Park Nobuo Uematsu Devin Townsend Ghost Also want to mention TetriminoVGBand on YouTube, they have some really good video game music covers. Your favorite platinum and why? I would say Overwatch, because in all my time hunting for trophies, I have never worked on a game more satisfying than that and probably never will again. Your least favorite platinum and why? It absolutely has to be Jump King. It was a pretty fun game but having to complete a game that is designed to purposely annoy the player as much as possible 22 times, with each playthrough adding something different to make it more difficult and annoying was actually a complete nightmare. Have you ever been tempted to switch over to the Xbox/Nintendo/PC gaming ecosystems? Not 100% completely, but I do own a Nintendo Switch that I play regularly! On top of trophy hunting I am also a shiny hunter, so I play a lot of Pokemon! If you could have one game from any gaming generation be remade or re-released, which one would it be and why? Silent Hill 1, that is a game that is in desperate need of a remake. It’s such an important game and I feel it’s not one that can be appreciated fully nowadays because it’s honestly aged pretty badly. How far are you willing to go for a platinum? Previously if there was a platinum trophy that I really wanted I would probably do whatever it took to get it, but recently it’s very much the same but within reason. The main thing I’m interested in now is just having a good time, if I’m not having a good time then I’ll likely move on, I guess I can attribute that to doing this for so long. If you could give Sony direct feedback of business decisions in the last year, and the latest console generation, what would you tell them? I know game development is very expensive, but regarding the PS5 launch, either make your games longer/include more content or make them cheaper. Nobody likes paying £70 for a 5-10 hour game. What is your favorite thing about PSNP? I very much just like the convenience of the site as a whole. It’s very easy to use and it’s very simple to keep yourself organised and on track with certain games using it. From my experience I find the community to be supportive and helpful of one another also, it’s a wholesome thing to be a part of. What is your least favorite thing about PSNP? I’d honestly say that there is quite a bit more toxicity in the community than there used to be, but that’s to be expected with any community on the Internet. If I had one complaint about the site it would be that I wish the search engine for games was a bit more refined, as finding a certain game can be a bit tedious sometimes. Other than that I don’t really have anything bad to say. Is there anyone in the PSNP Community you would like to give a shout out too and if so why? There are some people I’d like to mention as a matter of fact. @Froopy the Temmie – Very nice person, arguably one of the nicest people I’ve met during my time on this site. They also created the Cowbear trophy bot for Discord and use it to regularly run trophy events. They generally just do so much for the community and I think that’s just amazing and that they deserve all the praise. @Beyondthegrave07 – During my time as a PSNP mod Beyond was and still is a very kind, supportive person. During that time I also got a glimpse of the stresses that go into managing a site like this and how much that needs to be dealt with on a daily basis. I have nothing but respect for Grave and everything he does. Everyone in my Discord server – You guys are amazing. My old Destiny 1 crew (GamesFreak1, AfcWill97, Fixlarz, MrMaximusHTO, HiddenNorris, Frui7yPebble86, MadDawg_7) – Some of my fondest gaming moments were with these guys, moments that I’ll cherish for a long time. I honestly feel blessed to have met you all, thank you. PSNP Community Questions Which instrument would you ban from existence never to have to listen to it again as a sound engineer? Probably not an answer anyone would expect but 100% the snare drum. So many wasted nights trying to get the perfect snare sound on my mix. If you talk to any engineer they’ll express similar sentiments, getting that perfect snare in a song is our worst nightmare haha. Where is the is reason in treason? It’s right there. T -> reason. After the “T” . In seriousness I do like that song by Kasabian, It’s great! Knack when? Maybe when you finish Bad Company What compelled you to do Crypt of the Necrodancer? Getting the platinum trophy for Necrodancer wasn’t something I actually planned to do or even thought was possible for me until quite late into my playtime. It basically started when I was studying for my teaching degree, a friend of mine on the course recommended the game to me as we were both very much into music and he thought I would really enjoy it. I bought the game shortly after and sure enough I immediately loved it, but at the same time I took one look at the trophy list around 3 hours after playing and just thought to myself “Yeah, don’t even try”. So I just played the game casually for a long time and just saw what would happen. It wasn’t until around 18 months later when I unlocked every trophy except for two, messed around with Coda a little and got very far with her when I decided to take the plunge and make the push to get the platinum. I ended up making the choice because I thought I was capable and this was around the time difficult platinum trophies became more and more appealing to me. What innovations would you like to see in the future of rhythm gaming? Good question, while I do really enjoy rhythm gaming, I feel a lot of them strictly follow a similar formula gameplay wise. Recently I’ve found myself drawn a lot more to unique experiences that do something new and exciting with the concept and I think I would love if a AAA franchise came along that took note of this and did something really unique and not seen before. Apart from a gameplay perspective there’s not really anything you can do to innovate in a rhythm game. I’d also like there to a more streamlined way of being able to practice certain tracks. I find with most rhythm games there are very little options for actually being able to practice certain sections of songs or levels. Guitar Hero and Rock Band had very fleshed out practice modes but since then there has been nothing. I feel like that should really be the norm because it is so inconvenient trying to practice stuff you struggle with in most games. Very impressive trophies. What do you have in mind for plat #300? Thank you very much dude! I normally don’t plan milestones, but for the longest time I was considering either Bloodborne or The Elder Scrolls Online for #300. Most likely the first option since the Emperor trophy still seems very intimidating to me.. Are there any games that made you give up on them? You have Cloudberry Kingdom and Injustice 1 on your profile. Do you ever plan to going back and finishing them? I tend not to actually give up on games unless I’m not having a good time while playing them, I’ve stopped playing quite a few games due to the fact that they just don’t appeal to me long term. The only games I’ve given up because I feel they have been too hard for me are the Street Fighter games. I have been playing Cloudberry Kingdom on and off recently, I’m not expecting to complete it but I’m currently sat at level 297/320. Injustice is one I probably won’t return to, since I don’t particularly enjoy Star labs or battle mode. Do the games you play simply happen to have Ultra Rare 100%\Platinums, or are you actually pushing yourself to get as many Ultra Rare 100%/Platinums regardless on how appealing the game itself may be? Maybe a mix of both? If I’m being honest my ultra rare count isn’t something I’m particularly interested in. I’ve been doing this for a long time and I feel as time goes on you sort of get to a point where the only thing you become interested in is just having a good time while doing it. I’ve always loved a challenge so I’ll usually just play games I’ve heard good things about and/or have a reputation for being very difficult. There are occasions where I will play games just for Ultra rare trophies, but these will be just for competitions that are run regularly on Discord. What's your opinion about super easy and cheap Platinums? I’m not in a position where I can sit here and tell someone what they can and can’t do with their money, if it’s what they want to do and if it makes them happy then more power to them and nobody can take that away from them. However, I do take issue with how generally exploitative these developers and their business strategies are slowly becoming. I think it’s completely unethical and it preys on people that want that quick dopamine rush. It’s also made the leaderboards completely redundant for people that were invested on climbing it, but that’s a whole can of worms I don’t want to open. When and how did you find out that Santa Claus doesn't really exist? How was your reaction? My brother told me when I was 6 years old, I was telling him how Santa was going to bring me a Nintendo 64 this year and I was really excited about it so I kept saying it. I guess he got mad and just came out with it. At first I didn’t believe him and then after asking my mother I cried myself to sleep that night. What would be your piece of advice to a trophy hunter just starting out? Never sell yourself short; you never know what you’re capable of. Do not forget to have fun and don’t say anything is too hard for you. Are they're any genres you would love to excel at but don't have the skill for? Beat-em-ups and Shmups. I love both genres but am terrible at both, which is a shame because I would seriously love to have completed Ikruga and Street Fighter someday. What do you think about game delistings and server shutdowns? It’s always sad to see when the servers for your favorite games are announced to be closing but it’s sort of inevitability with every game with online and I think it’s something every trophy hunter should come to expect. How's your day going? Pretty good thank you! Hope your day is going well too! Most played song on Clone Hero? Beast and the Harlot – Avenged Sevenfold What new game do you have planned for your PS5? At the moment I’m planning on getting a copy of Hades and I think that’s it for now. I’m currently trying to save. Knowing that you play quite a few instruments (talking about RL now), is there one instrument in particular that you would say you have more fun playing over the others? And why is it the drums? Haha how did you know? It’s difficult to explain, I just feel very comfortable behind a drum kit, I always have. I find it’s what I’m best at as well, so I think that also makes it a fair bit easier to have a good time with it. Also, do you still find and make time for practicing playing music? And having to practice so many instruments, do you have a schedule / plan on how to keep up with everything? Unfortunately since the pandemic began I haven’t had much time between work and everything else to have the energy to practice my instruments and I sadly don’t have a drum kit at home anyway. I don’t really set a schedule or a routine for it, it’s just usually whenever I’m in the mood to play and I have some spare time to I will just lay on my couch and play my guitar or bass at this moment in time. If you could spend a day with any celebrity, who would it be and why? Emma Watson. For… Reasons. Because she seems very pleasant to be around of course. How low long can you see yourself hunting trophies for? Honestly? I don’t see myself having a lot of time left for trophy hunting. There’s still a lot more I would like to do with my life and I just can’t see myself trophy hunting in any serious capacity for too much longer. I think I’m close to achieving everything I would like to achieve with trophy hunting. What games would you play just for the fun of it, if trophies/achievements didn't exist? I was raised on Nintendo from the very tender age of 5 and I still play Nintendo games regularly to this day so if trophies didn’t exist I would probably be playing a lot more Nintendo games than I do now! Guitar Hero or Rockband? I’m a Rock Band guy personally! It’s just way better overall I find. How many total hours of Crypt of the Necrodancer have you played (across all consoles/PC)? How many hours did it take to "git gud?" 820 hours on PS4, 25 hours on Switch and 6 hours on PC. You never really git gud with Necrodancer, no matter how many hours you put into it there is always something new to learn What's your go-to video game job/class in video games and what video game job/class would you have in real life (Warrior, Bard, White Mage, gunner, etc) and why? My go to would definitely be a healer/support role. It’s usually my go to in every game I play, because I’m happy with just taking a back seat and helping everyone else. You’ve played a nice variety of games. Can you name a game from your experiences that was critically panned (e.g. Metacritic < 70) that you thought was actually good? Likewise, how about a game the critics adored (e.g. > 90) that you thought was overrated? Thank you! I wouldn’t say It’s a good game from a technical standpoint but Sonic 06 has always been a guilty pleasure of mine, so I think I would pick that for my <70. This is probably a hot take but I would say that The Last Of Us is somewhat overrated, I understand why people like it but from a gameplay perspective I just don’t find it to be anything special. Absolute legend. At this point, do you believe in “difficulty” in games? Or is “difficulty” just a matter of sinking time, where your goal will eventually be reached if you pour enough time into it? Thank you very much! That’s a very good question. Let's say theoretically, Crypt of the Necrodancer came out with stacks... Would you do it all over again, more than once even?! I think I would have to say no. The grind for my last two trophies took a lot out of me mentally, I don’t think I want to put myself through that again or even put any large amounts of time into Necrodancer in the future for that matter. Do you solve puzzles with or without walkthroughs? I love doing puzzles, so I will usually avoid using a guide, unless I absolutely have no choice but to use one. Is Sayonara Wild Hearts one of your favorite games ever? Please note a lot hinges on your answer. =P It was definitely one of the better rhythm games I’ve played so far, it’s such an incredible experience. I’ll definitely be getting it on Switch to play on trips. As a holder of a few rhythm game plats myself, do you miss the music games like Guitar Hero and Rock Band? I don’t think I miss them honestly. Clone hero itself is a very good substitute for Guitar Hero and is only getting better with new updates. Also there are newer rhythm games like Taiko, DJ MAX and many others that are fantastic in their own right and do a good job at filling that void those games left behind. I know you're slim but are you phat? Sadly no. I’ve been 2 stone underweight for the majority of my adult life, so yes the name is quite accurate. _______________________________________________________________ Let us give thanks to all that participated in asking questions to our interviewee Spoiler @Rally-Vincent--- @PanBuk69 @DesmaBR @Vextens @stealthlevel100 @Silver-I-Chariot @KenjiCBZ @AJ_Radio @LancashireLad87 @zizimonster @Deadly_Ha_Ha @Aodir @DJ__Beatroot @Arcesius @Miles @Beyondthegrave07 @DrEvilGuapo @SakiSakiSakiSakiSaki @Joe Dubz @BigBossImBeamer @visighost @starcrunch061 @Dead Weight Please join me soon in where we finish off the August interviews
Beyondthegrave07
Nice interview and thank you for the shout-out! It means a lot to me. I didn't know you were such a Super Metroid fan! I recently played it on the switch and it absolutely blew my mind how well it has aged in 20+ years. Man, now I'm wondering where your hype meter is on Metroid Dread, @SlimSanta94... I already got it pre-ordered.
