Do games lose their replay value after you Platinum / achieve 100% trophies on them?

after getting the plat or acheiving 100% trophies, does anyone tend to go back to the games ever again? or do they go on the shelves and eventually collect dust, or sold off on ebay?

i find after all mind that i dont really go back to them, unless another entry to the series is due to be released and might play on easy to be refreshed on story

I have to say that for the vast majority of games, once I get that platinum, I tend to move on to something else.  Very few games have gotten me to go back, even when DLC trophies are involved.

I do still occasionally pick up Binding of Isaac, but I have long since given up on 100% of that game.  Still enjoy the odd run through.  I have re-played games that had another trophy list come out (Final Fantasy VII Remake comes to mind).

I think Hades may be one of the few games that could keep me coming back, but I am still a ways away from the platinum, so we will see how I feel then.

I cannot quite put my finger on it, but without trophies, some part of my brain seems to think that playing games on my own is just a waste of time.  I get that it doesn't really make sense, but trophies give me something to play for, and that makes me feel better about it all.  That being said, playing games with Mrs. Bee or other friends is a completely different story.  I will happily play almost anything they want, regardless of trophies or console.

Usually yes, as getting the 100% usually means I have done everything this game has to offer and more, so the only reason to return to it is if the gameplay itself is immensely fun. Usually I return to strategy games, sometimes good RPGs too though, rarely anything else.

Not always, but the existence of trophies has raised the bar somewhat.

Now, with so many games available, and at such low cost, a game has to really be incredible for me to replay it in it's entirety. There are a few I regularly replay - Prey, Invisible Inc, Portal 2, Hitman, Super Mario World, A Link to the Past, Chronotrigger etc...

....but for the most part, I tend to see the plat as the end of the journey.

On the flip side though - give me a remaster with new trophies, and if I liked the game already the first time, that probably makes me more likely to replay it - so it's swings and roundabouts I suppose!

Several rare exceptions exist, but almost always, platinum/100% results in immediate deletion from the HDD. Now, there are a number of games I'd like to replay, but I just can't justify spending my limited time doing so, considering my enormous backlog of cool stuff.

They definately do, I never touch the game again once the platinum is achieved as I see it as a waste of time when I can use that time to start a new game and work on my next platinum.

In every game I played the platinum required you to exhaust what the game has to offer anyway, with the exception of Persona 5 royal. I really considered doing a second playthrough for the extra bosses, completing the thieves den rewards and fusing the last persona, but ended up not bothering as there was no trophies for it and I had gotten the platinum in one playthrough very easily, and saw all endings except the vanilla ending.

For me if there is no trophy for it, I tend to not do it. I certainly wouldn't have bothered with all those mini games in KH3 if it weren't for the trophies

I've got a couple of games I go back to. Mainly No Man's Sky, it's pretty much my resident chill out game and has been since it released (all I want to do is fly around and explore!). Also go back to Dark Souls III every few months, sometimes to run through it, sometimes to help random people out with bosses, dropping random items, fight club. Right now I'm on my third playthrough of Red Dead Redemption 2, earned the platinum about three weeks ago but I recently started a youtube channel so I'm using RDR2 to practice editing videos mostly. Didn't realize how much work went into editing, recorded for about three hours, and edited for over eight hours for a 25 minute video.

I get dragged back into GTA online on occasion by my friends too, usually because they need money and want me to use the infinite casino heist method, then we end up doing other stuff, races, deathmatches, sumo is a brilliant game mode. One day, I've no doubt go back to Skyrim, been resisting the temptation for about three years. Really want to play the Talos Principle again too, but I'll wait a year or two until I've forgotten the solutions for the puzzles :P

I only go back to Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3. I've been playing it for almost 10 years now. It's my favorite fighting game and I used to compete in it hardcore back in the day. Now I just casually play with my buddies who I used to compete with. Even though I love fighting games and would love to get good in another one I don't have time to invest into them anymore so I usually just do enough to get the platinum then delete them. All other games I delete instantly and never go back.

Depends on the game for me personally. UFC 4 for example, I tend to hop back on pretty frequently after I got he platinum last year because I'm a fan of MMA and it's still fun to slap people around online from time to time lol. Also games like Hitman, Fallout, Skyrim, and No Man's Sky to name a few aren't ever REALLY done. Yea you may have gotten all the trophies for them, but there's still fun to be had with side quest, exploring, or finding more creative ways to kill people.

This. Mostly.

There've been a few excceptions, mainly for helping out others.

Once that 100% is achieved I consider the game conquered. Loads of trophies require you to do stupid things that would normally be quite suicidal (looking at you Dead Space melee attacks) or run like a speeding bullet through otherwise beautiful surroundings (screw speedruns).

Yeah the speedrun stuff never appealed to me. I love to take my time even if the game requires multiple playthroughs and I have already seen everything. But I do think they should remain. For the most part they're a single play trophy and you never know that at some point you may indeed feel like a new kind of challenge experience. That being said, I would rather they stick to chapter speedruns rather than 'complete the entire game in such a time' type thing. As all that does is give you a shite experience of just running none stop throughout the game, taking hits, having next to no inventory for when you do have to fight the boss etc etc.

I think the problem a lot of devs have is that they make a list which implies they only want you to play there game. This is the only form of media that does this as its obvious people are gonna want to experience different games, just like we do with movies, user vids and music.

I did a bunch of stuff in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt after I obtained the 100%. The trophy list doesn't come close to the amount of things you can do in that game, which sort of disappointed me but at the end of the day, trophies are really just icing on the cake.

Very few games entice me to come back to them after I finished them so they have to be exceptional in some category. For example, I have no intention of playing Assassin's Creed Odyssey any time soon, found completing those locations to be incredibly boring and far too much the same. You can definitely tell Ubisoft copied a lot from The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, as did other open world games, but Odyssey wasn't anywhere near as engaging in its side content. I definitely enjoyed Origins more.

I think there are games that despite the Platinum has a limited arrange in terms of the actual gameplay for a title (in which the trophies specs are just very specific and can cover a multitude of tasks, being mindful or not by the player), the first play through is always the deciding factor into replay it or not. In my case, I finished many games, and I've been playing them long after finishing them, as sometimes people are tracking down help into certain trophies and want to boost, and sometimes by the pure fun's sake.

Aside from that, the Platinum should show that you really enjoyed the game in first place. I mean, you're putting time into it, so to some degree it has that appeal that in the end made you to look everywhere and within the game frame to gather all those digital rewards for exactly that: having a wonderful time with it and finishing whatever challenge you put in yourself. But of course, there are games which are complete trash that you just care to finish it and never return to them ever again; in that case the thing is paradoxically true, as you actually distaste too much that the simple contempt it brings to you makes you complete it because the feeling to leaving it "for later" is unbearable, so better doing it now that never.

Hence, yeah. I still play games long after grabbing Plat/100%, and they are fun because that's the intention. Just be selective about what you want to play because it's your time and money, of course.

I agree with all of this...it's even getting to the point now where I lose interest after beating the game, let alone fully completing it.

MP games are the exception. I tend to play those even after earning everything.

Pretty much. If I have the Plat or 100% then I did everything...nothing to really go back to. Plus I have a hefty backlog, I can't be sitting on the same game forever. Hell, I even get a little antsy in RPG's once I hit that 100 hour mark, I feel like it's time to move on to something else. It's always mind blowing to me when people say they have like 1000+ hours in a game...I would get so sick of looking at it long before then. It's also a little difficult for me to Plat games that need multiple playthroughs...because once I beat the game once I want something new.

Borderlands 2 is really the only game since Trophies have become a thing that I have gone back to multiple times after the Plat...but that had a lot to do with playing Co-Op with friends. Pre-trophy days you pretty much had no choice but to replay the same set of games over and over, so it's nice that I have plenty to choose from these days.

Now I'll obviously replay a game I like if it got a new trophy list, like say a remaster came out. I'm doing it right now with Spider-Man. But it feels like the first playthrough again of something slightly new, even if it's familiar and I know what to expect.
