This wouldn't be a huge problem weren't for the Z-rated games =/

Just wanted to say I got an almost identical email on my Hong-Kong account, so it looks like this isn't limited to japan.

Well this just made everything worse. I was just looking at a 5000JPY VPreca and now they're out of stock. Bought 2 3000JPY but I don't know if I can get what I want with two cards. Plus all this hurdle, no real guides how to use them and language barrier to deal with.

I don't really dabble on other storefronts, but is PayPal not an option to get around this? Or would you still need a card linked to that PayPal?

Paypal as a payment option is also being removed from PS3/Vita stores. It still has constantly updating security requirements just like credit/debt and it looks like they’re gutting all of that out.

That makes sense, but wouldn't it still be an option on PS4/5 which would verify your account, or is that separate across devices?

Unfortunately it looks like it was designed in the worst way possible, at device level, instead of at account level.

Apart from the CERO Z part, which I don't completely understand, isn't this old news? Well it's confiming it for the japanese stores of ps3 and vita but months ago it was said that, due to security reasons, you would have to add funds via pns cards only on ps3 and vita. So, apart from the cero z, nothing's changed?

Only Euro region was affected before. You could still use paypal/credit/debit in other regions

Oh, I thought it was going to be global from the start, just earlier in Europe.

According to VGC (Video Games Chronicle, see link below), you need to use your store wallet to make digital purchases on PS3 or Vita starting October 27.  This is a global initiative, affecting all regions including the U.S.

This means:

  • To buy digital content for your PS3 console or PS Vita system, you must first add sufficient funds to your wallet on PlayStation Store.
  • You can add funds by redeeming a PlayStation Store gift card, using a credit or debit card, PayPal, or other available payment methods via a desktop computer, mobile device, a PS4 console or a PS5 console.
  • PlayStation Store gift cards, product vouchers and subscription vouchers will still work on both PS3 and Vita.
  • Impacted customers on this change:  In Japan, purchasing age-restricted games on PS3 and Vita will no longer be possible after the update as buying products with a CERO Z rating on digital platforms requires a credit card to verify the customer’s age.

Bottom line, can't purchase games via credit or debit cards or Paypal on the PS3 or Vita starting October 27.  This is a global initiative.

The only big, new issue for those that are impacted is that you can no longer be able to purchase games in Japan that have a CERO Z rating (starting October 27) because there's no longer a way to verify age.  Verification looks to be localized on our PS3's, not on our accounts, which is why you can continue using a credit/debit card and Paypal to purchase CERO Z rating content for your PS4 and PS5 games in the same affected region.  Unless new information is released, all other regions can continue to purchase any available digital content on PS3 following the new methods above starting October 27.

Btw for CERO Z Rating games it may not be just the physical games but all dlc that will be age restricted as well. So if there's games you own you want that the dlc for get them now.

Btw has a list been started on what games are available only digitally or have a physical available?

You can buy CERO Z dlc without needing age verification. I used ps wallet funds to buy the dlc for Onechanbara Z Kagura with NoNoNo a few years back

So we just have to add money to our PSN wallet on the web store or PS4/5 store using our card and then buy content on PS3/Vita if you don’t want to use PSN credit?

Does anyone have a list of PSN-only CERO Z games that are affected by this, by chance?

Maybe not a bad thing to work on, if anyone has the ability/time!

I receipt the same e-mail on my main account (EU) but is not the same because they don't talk about pegi 18 restricion but for everithing in ps3-vita store, so for buy something you need to charge the wallet from ps4/web.
