Popular Post ziggypossum
Yakuza: Like a Dragon Sequel Announced October 8, 2021 We recently got the sad news that Nagoshi and Sato are leaving Sega, hidden within this news though was the first official confirmation we got that the Yakuza game currently being worked on is a sequel to Yakuza: Like a Dragon. While we’ve known that Ichiban Kasuga would be the new lead for the series for awhile now but this is also the first confirmation we got that he will be leading the next game which points to the next entry not being a spin-off title. New Studio lead Masayoshi Yokoyama had this to say: Ryu Ga Gotoku’s predecessors have passed down their beliefs and know-how to each and every staff member. You can witness it in the recently released Lost Judgment and will see it in the upcoming sequel to Yakuza: Like a Dragon which will continue Ichiban Kasuga’s story. This game is currently being developed by producer Sakamoto and directors Horii, Ito and Mitake. I myself along with Takeuchi and Furuta are working on the story. Whether it’s six months or one year from now, I hope to show you a new Ryu Ga Gotoku title by a new Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio that is different but still the same, and something that will spark a feeling of “this is what we are waiting for” within you. I’d like to continue on my life as a video game creator with earnestness. RGG Studio are known for their impressive quick turnaround so despite Lost Judgment just releasing we don’t expect it to be long before we get our first look at the game. The studio has two separate teams who work on games at the same time to support the quick development of their games. https://tojodojo.com/yakuza-like-a-dragon-sequel-announced/ Edited November 28, 2023 by ziggypossum Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth
IesuHado
What a nice notice! Is good to see that they got how to use the formula and universe in different ways and is more pleasant to see that their innovation gave them good results. I haven't tried myself like a dragon yet but it call my attention a lot.

Xugoshi
Will Yakuza 8 go back to it's roots and not be an RPG this time around?

As much as I want it to be live action, it's not happening unfortunately with Ichiban as the lead. They've pretty much laid the grounds with the whole dragon quest inspired RPG which defines Ichiban's character and his interaction with his mates. At least we'll always have the spin-offs to get our live action fix.
starcrunch061
Well, as for me, gimme more Ichiban and more RPG! Yakuza: Like a Dragon was one of the best turn-based RPGs I've ever played. I want more of the same, but expanded. In particular, I want the minigames to yield more reward (particularly the darts game, which was a favorite). Gimme, gimme, GIMME!!!

If it wasn't they'd go back to the old formula? Don't get me wrong though I love turn-based RPG's heck I even grew up with them, but I just don't want them in my Yakuza games...? I wouldn't mind if they went the action RPG route though.
whodeygamer
Nice! I’ve been really enjoying Like A Dragon, I’m currently preparing for the True Final Millennium Tower. I’m really looking forward to the next one, whenever it comes out.
Ninjise
I have yet to play like a dragon, but more Yakuza is always welcome, no matter what style of gameplay it is.

tranquility101
Thank you for sharing this amazing announcement! ? When I platinumed Yakuza LAD earlier this year I was initially quite sad that I wouldn't see the story's characters any more, and so I brought them all for a final meal at one of the local restaurants ? Can't wait to be back in action with that amazing cast of characters! Here is to hoping they don't make the Sewer Area the best grindable Level-Up spot ? And the hard copies went pretty cheap quickly so who knows whether this formula will stick.
ziggypossum
Yakuza Super Talk Stage Event Will Be Streamed April 29th Sega will be hosting a Super Talk event for the Yakuza series this month. On April 29th at Niconico Chokaigi, the show will feature director Masayoshi Yokoyama who was recently made the head of RGG Studio after the departure of Toshihiro Nagoshi who left to join NetEase. The event will be streamed online although it will likely only be in Japanese as it’s exclusively being streamed on a Japanese platform. They’ve promised we’ll hear about the past, present and future of the Yakuza franchise with information that only Yokoyama would be able to share. With major changes at the studio the new heads have been trying to calm people’s fears that the series will be seriously affected by this. https://live.nicovideo.jp/watch/lv336501347

JavaNext
After strugling with the idea of turn based combat, I finally decided to get 7. Havent started yet but Im hoping ill like it. My current problem with these series is that I like the combat in Judgment but I dont care about the detective story, and I like the Yakuza story but might not like the combat... Viscera1900
Really liked Yakuza: Like A Dragon and Ichi being the new protagonist, so I’ll probably get this Day 1
YTPerfectParadox
I really should get back to finishing like a dragon so i can be up to date for 8. Loved the game but the turn based combat was such a turn off. I'd honestly rather a skip combat button and just enjoy what's left.

Ashande
Really hoping they actually balance the combat decently this time. I really wanted to enjoy Like A Dragon, but the damage and resource starvation was ridiculous to me… to say nothing of the sudden surprise difficulty spikes (especially after hour-long sequences full of cutscenes and exploration, then surprise, here’s a boss(es) 15 levels higher than you, who would be borderline brutally unfair if you were on par with them, let alone as you are now! Have fun!) Of course, the combat is just the start of my issues with Like A Dragon. It just felt “off” in so many ways, most of them hard to put my finger on, that it makes my issues with the combat stand out even further. I’ll give them one more shot, but I suspect I’m going to be stuck in spin-off city from here on out unless something big changes.
