No way to PAUSE game?

Is there no way to pause the game once you've entered a map?

Neither bringing up the objectives (press touchpad), the so-called pause menu (press start/options to bring up menu with Resume option), nor pressing the PS button to bring up that menu, does anything to freeze what is going on -- the NPCs keep talking and moving around.

I understand the pause would be disabled if Julianna is on the hunt, but what if you need to answer the phone or get a fresh beer in the middle of a map?

You can pause if you change it to single player mode (click on colt in the top left when you're selecting a level to enter). Pausing is handy obviously but I found playing in Friends only mode to be the best for trophy hunting as Julianna will only invade if one of your psn friends invades you.

I don't know if this works in this game as I haven't played it yet, but I know in other games where there was no pause when I went into the menus, I did this and it worked. I press the share button as if I'm going to take a screenshot...the overlay appears at the bottom to save your screenshot. If you stay on that, your game is paused. Again, I don't know if this method works in this game specifically, I just know I have done it in the past in other games and had no issues with enemies trying to attack me while I went away from console. Everything was halted.
