GTA 6 is reportedly in development hell, Red Dead Redemption Remastered coming to PC

OCTOBER 31, 2021

Rockstar Mag’s Chris, who has been a reliable source for leaks regarding the GTA series, has shared some details about Grand Theft Auto 6 and Red Dead Redemption Remastered.

According to Chris, Grand Theft Auto 6 is currently in development hell. Rockstar has restarted its development right after Dan Houser left the company. Not only that, but Take-Two was originally planning to announce the game in 2020.

As Chris noted, Rockstar has changed the story and other game elements too many times since 2019. From the looks of it, GTA 6 is the most chaotic project Rockstar has ever developed (and even worse than the original Red Dead Redemption game).

Although Chris did not provide any additional details, he claimed that the game will take place in 2 time periods.

Lastly, Chris claimed that Rockstar is working on Red Dead Redemption Remastered for current-gen consoles and PC.

This remaster will be similar to GTA Trilogy: The Definitive Edition. In other words, it won’t be a mere “resolution increase” remaster, and it will feature new graphical features.

However, Chris claimed that this remaster won’t come out anytime soon.

Below you can find the video in which Chris revealed all the aforementioned details (head over at 14:23). Do note that the video is in French.

Lastly, and as with all rumors (no matter how reliable a source is), we suggest taking everything you read with a grain of salt.

GTA 6 should be announced the day it’s released, preferably in about another 10 years, with all the components functioning. No early previews, no teasers, no trailers, no beta testing, no review copies, nothing.

It’s another title some people are going to be in an uproar no matter what gets released. Rockstar doesn’t need the pre-orders, they don’t need marketing. It’ll sell based on its name alone, and it’ll sell a boatload.

Im at a point right now, where i don't really care anymore. GTA 6 will come when it comes.

I have a pretty big backlog, so i'll just play that. Of course, i'll buy GTA 6 day one, and i will be hyped, but i'm done being excited or listening to rumors.... Waste of time. Give me a trailer and a ball park of when it will come, and i'm happy.

I'll echo some of the above, my worries are too with the fact 'development hell' is probably due to trying to figure out how to implement Shark cards into single player or make it unplayable unless you subscribe to some additional R* bs. Which itself requires 80hr work weeks without paid overtime for the devs.

I doubt it's due to efforts in making a worthwhile SP experience, interesting missions, new takes, or planning worthwhile expansions to scratch that 'DLC itch' T2 and other like it have.

GTA V has been milked so much the proverbial cow has turned inside out. I don't care much for remaster of the trilogy, RDR... etc. A GTA VI on par with GTA IV quality would be preferable but probably highly unlikely. I hope I'm wrong and it comes out whenever it does / and is finished. We don't need another Cyberpunk on games of this scale or have another legendary title reduced to mindless successors with grey-goo of content raking billions on popular IP's (ahem Ubi)

Given the tremendous level of polish in Rockstar games (evidenced by GTAV and RDR2 at least)... it wouldn't shock me that a game without clear direction would find itself in a bit of trouble with its development path.  But "development hell" at Rockstar is probably not exactly like most studios, I think they'll pull themselves back together once they know what they want to the game to be.

Though also, it's a notoriously controversial series and the world has changed a bit since 2013... so there's probably a bit of soul searching when it comes to satisfying their creative vision and trademark humor... and not making something that will incite the gaming community (which is incredibly easy to do) from them either pushing it too far or not pushing it far enough.  I remember reading something around the time RDR2 was coming out about (paraphrasing) "how difficult it would be if we were making a new GTA game in this environment" and I'm sure there's some truth to that.

and I bet the games going on Now and Gamepass are because hardly anyone was pre ordering.

No. When they uploaded the Definitive Edition trailer they opened the pre-orders and announced at the same time that GTA San Andreas would come to Game Pass and GTA III to PS Now.

Rockstar scrapped the planned single player DLC for GTA V, probably because they felt that it wouldn't sell as well as the crap they've pumped into GTA Online, which is their cashcow.

I have a feeling that the next GTA will be more online focused as that is the general direction the industry is heading towards. Live service, in-game advertisements to remind us to spend more money on crap we don't need, the list goes on.

Cyberpunk has crippled CD Projekt, at this point in time I expect there to be another big controversy with another game that isn't going to deliver on what was promised by the developers. Rockstar in contrast is a far bigger company and has had past experience in dealing with controversy, whereas Cyberpunk was practically released unfinished and the Twitter mob responded in turn. CD Projekt is still recovering from the Cyberpunk disaster, and it will be a long while before people will regain their trust in the company.

Ok, now i have to put in my 2 cents here :)

People (not only you), whine and complain about GTA Online. But to be honest, what other developer puts out so much "DLC" or extra content to their online, after so many years?

Like it or don't, but i can recall :

Heists update

Tuners DLC

Bikers DLC

Rockstar editor DLC

Doomsday Heist DLC (That was AWESOME, and had a crazy story).

Executive update

Lowriders update

Import/export update

After Hours update

Arena war update

Casino heist update

Cayo perico heist update

And that's just the bigger ones. Theres countless small updates with cars/vehicles and clothes, and stuff like that.

You can hate it if you want, but Rockstar has put out ridiculous amounts of stuff (quality), for free...

No one, and i mean NO ONE, forces you to spend real life money in the game. I've never put real life money in the game, and NEVER bought a shark card, and i have 100% in the ps4 version :)

If you spam the cayo perico heist, it's piss easy money, and you don't need shark cards...

Just because Rockstar has found a ticket to the lottery, in their shark cards, there's no need to hate just to hate.

I could see your point, if they made Online, and left it to die the same year, and cashed in on shark cards still... But they have updated the online since release and spit out new quality content at least yearly... come on man...

You completely don't see where I'm coming from here.

If GTA Online is your thing, that's great. But for those of us who supported Rockstar for decades, we are getting tired of them constantly milking GTA Online, which is becoming laughable at this point in time. I want them to focus on other projects. I want them to take risks and throw themselves out there, set the standard like they used to do in the old days.

I haven't spent a single dime on any shark cards in GTA Online because I don't indulge in that crap.

Videos like this just prove my overall argument:

Rockstar re-releasing this once again for the PS5/Xbox Series X when they already have a strong steady flow of cash rolling in, and having hoards of people express their anger and frustration at the company should be telling enough.

AJ - I understand what you are saying, but im not sure you understand my point.

Just because YOU don't think GTA Online is a good experience, there's OBVIOUSLY other people who play it. If not, Rockstar wouldn't make money.

I also want GTA 6, or maybe Bully 2... But i know it's far away, and that's just too bad.

But i don't see the point in hating on Rockstar, for doing what they do... They made an amazing online, and are still supporting it 7-8 years later with BIG updates. Many companies wouldn't do that.

You can be a Rockstar fan boy who is blind, but you can also be a hater just to hate. That's my point.

And again, just because something isn't YOUR cup of tea, doesn't mean it's a pile of crap to everyone else :)

I don't understand COD, but obviously others like it, since it sells insanely good....

And once again, you're completely avoiding the point I'm trying to make. I'm willing to bet you didn't even bother watching a bit of the video I posted.

This post confirms you have a problem with accepting opposing opinions. You have this black and white view that haters hate everything on the subject they're discussing. That fanboys have no criticism or nitpicks on a company they support.

I still enjoy Rockstar for the games they make. I would be outright lying if I said so otherwise. But I'm not going to be somebody who just blindly accepts everything they make, and that especially goes with how they've handled GTA Online these past couple years.

You probably aren't even aware that Take-Two has been attacking fan modders for making content that Rockstar has basically ignored. I saw the trailer for GTA V for the new consoles and I criticized the hell out of it. You can still be a long time fan and be a critic.

You might as well go on every YouTube video that is bashing something that you yourself like and say "just because something isn't your cup of tea, doesn't mean it's a pile of crap to everyone else". That holds no water whatsoever.

I don't understand Fortnite, just like you don't understand Call of Duty, but there are kids within my circle of friends and family who love it. Because it's insanely popular, there's nothing wrong with it right?

Accept what criticism is and just don't throw out assumptions that anybody criticizing something is a hater.

AJ - Dude, what happened to you? when i came to this site, you were not this pissed off and negative... honestly, it's a little sad to see all the posts you make, with negative themes.

You're litterally not reading what im typing... You keep talking about milking the dead cow (GTA Online). Im making the point that it's not a dead cow, since it has a huge player base that obviously enjoys it, and are willing to through money after it. It's YOUR OPINION that GTA Online sucks. To me it looks more like YOU who has a problem with me having a different opinion than you.

The one thing you understood and got right, from my post, is that, YES, there's NOTHING wrong with Fortnite. I don't play it, it's not my type of game, but i can appreciate others liking it. Just like COD, AC and other games i don't play. I don't have to have a negative opinion about other peoples taste in games.

Seriously, go out and enjoy the sun, get some fresh air. You seem negative and depressed dude.... I hope you soon come back energized and happy! :)

The first few comments in this thread were right on point. I'm sorry, but you're not seeing the full picture.

I actually want to see and look at Grand Theft Auto VI, but I have come to understand that it will more than likely be a long time before we get to see it. As Daiv said, people will be in a complete uproar because it has the Grand Theft Auto label on the game, it will likely break sales records. There doesn't have to be any trailers, beta testing or review copies. The game will sell big because of the name alone.

I'm skeptical about the Red Dead Redemption remaster, because we don't know much about it. That doesn't mean I won't play Red Dead Redemption 2, I still want to play that game in the future. Even if I didn't care about trophies, I still want to look forward to that experience, since I absolutely loved and adored the original Red Dead Redemption.

Actually, there is a whole series of problems with Fortnite, but I won't bother to mention them here.

Just agree to disagree, because that's the best we can do on this subject.

If you wanna talk moneygrabbing and pissing on fans, let's talk Call of duty, Assassins creed and Far cry... That crap has not seen new thought since the first game in the series...

I cant speak for Call of Duty or Far Cry, but that is blatantly untrue for Assassin's Creed.  They keep a lot of the mainstay ideas, but introduce new things every couple of games or so.

You preach against "hating just to hate" but then turn around and do the same thing
