Popular Post B1rvine
To enter a $20 raffle, answer one or more of the following questions in this thread: What holiday memory puts a smile on your face? What's a gift you've given that put a smile on someone else's face? Honestly, have you been naughty or nice this year, and why? To enter the $500+ prize pool, play the following game below. It's starting early this year. (Play either one or both.) Holiday Scavenger Hunt Game #3 By B1rvine and Beyondthegrave07 TLDR version of the rules: Private message me your responses to each question (listed below). Only one answer per question. Your response should be the most unique answer you can think of, and will be scored by comparing it to everyone else. Whoever has the most unique answers across the board in general wins (see scoring formula). To see a bit more how this game works, see the first years contest and results, but be aware some rules may be slightly different. Full Rules: --- Entry Your forum account must be created prior to June 2021, and 25 posts upon entry (You can make your posts now, if you need to). Discord regulars may be exempt and allowed to enter. --- General Each participant must answer all contest questions #1 - 12 via private message either with PSNP mail or Discord to me, B1rvine, or @Beyondthegrave07. The deadline to respond will be Fri, Dec 24th, 11:59:59 US EST. --- Objective/Scoring: Each player starts with zero points. Similar to golf, the objective will be to end with the lowest possible score. After the deadline, everyone’s answers will be compared to each other. Any answer that is completely unique that nobody else comes up with is worth 1 point. For answers that are shared by two or more people, points are awarded equal to the number of people sharing that answer, multiplied by the number of other groups totaling the same number of shared answers, plus the number points from previous tier's scoring bracket (minus 1, by ignoring unique answer scores). Incorrect answers are worth the highest scoring bracket, plus 75 additional points. See the chart below: Quote Sample Question: What’s the name of a character in Assassin’s Creed 2? 1 player gives a unique answer of “Warren Vidic.” 3 players give an answer of “Rodrigo Borgia.” 3 players give an answer of "Leonardo Da Vinci." 10 players give an answer of "Desmond Miles." 15 players give an answer of “Ezio.” 1 player gives an incorrect answer of "Ganondorf" One player would get 1 point. Six players get 6 points. Ten players get 16 points. Fifteen players get 31 points. One player gets 106 points. --- Additional Rules All answers need to be based on PSNP's "data" (ie game names, trophy names, trophy art, series info, etc). If a game is not listed on PSNP's game database for any reason, it's considered an incorrect answer. Retail "Collections" are considered an invalid answer, unless the collection has a single trophy list covering at least 2 of the included games. Any games released after November 1st, 2021 are considered incorrect answers. Different variations of "stacks" (both region and console) are considered the same answer. All games in series with "Annual releases" (Series with 5+ consecutive yearly releases) are being treated as the same answer (except for Q11). Games where you may be able to "craft, build, create, or name, etc" things can't be used as a correct answer, unless it's naturally in the game. Any version of a game due to patches/updates is considered correct as long as it was correct at one time. If you list more than one answer per question, the first one I see is recorded. All staff members who play wont be eligble for prizes, but our answers will affect other players scores. Matching the answer B1rvine picks gets you in a raffle. If you privately ask something like "is ______ a valid answer?", I'll add it to the list of examples, if your question is answered. --- Prizes I was going to give a PS5, but would rather give more prizes out instead. 1st Place : $250 PSN, GameStop, BestBuy, or similar gift card. 2nd - 5th : $50 PSN, GameStop, BestBuy, or similar gift card. Main Raffle : $20 PSN, GameStop, BestBuy, or similar gift card. Match B1's Answer : $50 Raffle. (Anyone who lists one of my answers gets entered.) NonUSA players are WELCOME, but if you want a PSN card for your account's country, please link me to a specific store product when responding, so I know exactly what to get. Also, sorry in advance, the non-PSN type retail gift cards (GameStop, BB stores) are for USA only. The Questions! General Note : The Hints provided are not the only correct answers, in some cases. And with that... #1 : Let the holiday inbox overflow commence! What's a game that has a trophy with one of the following "exact" words: "Mail", "Airmail", "Mailbox", "Mailman", "Mailer", or "Email?" Plural versions of these words are valid. The word must be on its own and not part of another word (i.e "Blackmail" is invalid). The trophy name itself must include one of these words, not the unlock requirements, or descriptions, etc. Hint: Search https://psnprofiles.com/search/trophies for a list of correct answers. #2 : It's time to light up the holidays with candles. What's a game that has a trophy with an image of a candle?" The candle can be lit or unlit. The candle does not need to be the main focus of the image. However, the object in question should look like it can function properly, if you were to hold it. In other words, no jewelry shaped like candles, etc. Hint: Search https://psnprofiles.com/search/trophies for a partial list of correct answers. #3 : Everyone loves getting free subscriptions, right? What's a 2021 PS+ "free" game? December's titles are INVALID answers. Must be a PS+ title, not free for some other reason. Hint: List of PlayStation Plus Games 2021 or similar lists will have correct answers. #4 : Santa needs a chimney to deliver gifts. What's a game that has a trophy with one of the following "exact" words: "Chimney", "Pipe", "Vent", or "Smoke Stack?" Plural versions of these words are valid. The word must be on its own and not part of another word (i.e "Pipeline", "Ad'vent'urer", etc are invalid). If using "Smoke Stack", both words must be used in this exact order. The trophy name itself must include one of these words, not the unlock requirements, or descriptions, etc. Hint: Search https://psnprofiles.com/search/trophies for a list of correct answers. #5 : Sometimes, other holidays are swallowed by Xmas starting early or ending late. What's a game that has a trophy image with any of the following: Pumpkin / Jackolantern, Turkey, Heart shape, or a Shamrock / Clover? The turkey can't be food (roasted, cooked, etc). Heart shape must be a symbol, not a biological heart. Objects can be either intact or broken. General "paper mache" or general objects are okay. I'm pretty flexible on this question. Basically anything that looks like it'd fit for the holiday in question. Just in case, the holidays are Halloween, Thanksgiving, Valentines, and St Patty's. Hint: Search https://psnprofiles.com/search/trophies for a partial list of correct answers. #6 : There's that elusive gift everyone always wants, but never got. What's a game with an unobtainable trophy that's never been obtainable? In the unlikely event something is fixed after you answer, your answer is still correct. This may lead to identical answers validity being marked differently. Hint: This thread or similar ones for a partial list(s) of correct answers. #7 : There's some mistletoe above you. What's a game where two HUMAN characters share a kiss with each other? The kiss must be shown on-screen, and not implied (even if its obvious its happening.) Hint: Best Games Romance Options is a partial list of correct answers. #8 : Moderators usually determine if people are naughty or nice. What's a game that has a morality system and at least two trophies related to it? Earning one trophy must lock you out from earning the other in a single playthrough (unless you reload your save) A "morality system" is defined as the game having a VISIBLE "Infamous-like" (or similar) indicator about your character's disposition or alignment, based on your in-game actions or choices, etc. The morality doesn’t need to be “good or evil”, it can be anything. Hint: Games with a Morality System is a partial list of correct answers. #9 : The Cheater Removal Team does its best to battle no good evil-doers that deserve coal. What's a game that has coal as an in-game usable resource / item? The coal can be utilized in any manner. Fetch quests or trading/selling is acceptable. There must be a visual or audible reference you're specifically using coal. (No random black rocks.) Hint: Minecraft is a correct answer, otherwise you'll need to search on your own. #10 : Santa updated his Guide Team when he added Rudolph. What's one of the names of PSNP's latest new Guide team members? Hint: https://forum.psnprofiles.com/staff/ The three choices are Charizarzar, Roronora_Zoro666, or Vanqishd. #11 : One of the Game Information Team's duties is cataloguing game series. In honor of the 12 Days of Xmas, what's the name of a series with at least 12 stages? The series needs to specifically list "Stage 12." or list "Stage 11" and have a "No Stage" as well. Hint: https://psnprofiles.com/series?order=a-z includes correct answers. #12 : There's at least a few real life holiday games where players themselves affect other's gifts, such as Secret Santa, or White Elephant, and Dirty Santa. What's the name of someone other than yourself who is playing in this contest? Please link their account. The person needs to have submitted all 12 answers for the contest before the deadline They can submit before or after you. They must answer at least 8 questions correctly. Players only entering the raffle do not count as "playing in the contest." Feel free to name and invite a friend of yours. Hint : B1rvine is a guaranteed correct answer. Updates: Spoiler Nov 1st : Clarified Q2 and Q5. Nobody had sent in submissions yet. Nov 2nd : Added info for Q12. (Invite a friend to play!) Nov 2nd : Clarified definition of "Annual Release" from the additional rules section. Existing submissions weren't affected. Nov 2nd : Added general information about the hints. Nov 5th : Clarified Q8, the karma system must be visible "somehow" while playing the game. Multiple endings alone don't count. Nov 8th : Added definition on "any use" of coal. Nov 8th : Added rule about asking me "Is this a valid answer?" Edited November 8, 2021 by B1rvine
TugaSonic
What holiday memory puts a smile on your face? Putting and decorating the Christmas Tree with my dad. It was always fun for me as a kid although some years my dad would do it by himself while I was at school.
Lonemankane
What holiday memory puts a smile on your face?: I enjoy putting up all the small balls and little things on the xmas tree and just the warm feeling of the home at winter What's a gift you've given that put a smile on someone else's face?: I remember I think it was 2 years ago I got my mum a bit of music that she missed and it was something she loved but forgot all about for many years till she heard it off the disc and yeah she cried and smiled and hugged me when I got it for her and yeah that is one memory of a gift I gave that done something like that to someone. Honestly, have you been naughty or nice this year, and why?: I am not sure why I feel it but I feel I have been nice this year, I have tried my best to do all I can to keep a level head in a lot of things and help all I can and yeah I have seen a change in my mood and outlook and I feel it is for the better. Also like to ask if it is at all alright to use a trophy that has the word email in it like say it is called Gun nutter, Read all emails of tom dick and harry so on. I remember the joy of watching A Christmas Story when it was still a new film and it not used as seasonal fodder. Giving my baby sister a Golden Girls jigsaw puzzle. Belly-laughter on Christmas morning is always great. Honestly, I guess it depends on who you ask, but I've probably been a bastard and deserve coal in my stocking. Aecesaje_
Interesting concept, this should prove to be more random than it usually is and bring more people to the competition. I just have one question on the trophy image with x in them questions, since I don't see anything about it on the rules. Does the whole trophy image need to be the item on the question or can it be a background item? Imagining you have a trophy image of someone holding a candle or a trophy image of a person using a necklace with a heart shape. Would this type of images count? The object is there, just not the main focus.
GUDGER666
What holiday memory puts a smile on your face? For some reason my dad got me an expensive RC Plane one Christmas. Next day we went to a club that teaches you how to fly them, my cousin accidentally broke the tail so we couldn't fly it, following week it's fixed. A guy starts the engine and gets it flying and then I take over.. engine immediately cuts out and the plane smashed into ground. My dad paid £800 for it. Why didn't he get me an RC Car!? We sold the remote and parts to a guy who used them on a robot in the BBC 2 program Robot Wars. The robot got smashed to bits. LOL! What's a gift you've given that put a smile on someone else's face? Bought my sister a years supply of Super Noodles. Honestly, have you been naughty or nice this year, and why? Bad, instead of losing weight I gained weight... Again.

In general, a young child (maybe 6-7 years old) should be able to identify your image as whatever you're saying it is, possibly with the extra step of an adult having to explain it to them. Q2 is more about the candle itself. It needs to look like it could function as a candle. It can be in the background, or someone holding it, etc. Q5 is more about the shapes in general, so anything goes. I've updated those two questions with additional info to reflect this. Golden rule : If you have to ask because it's a reeaaaaally fringe answer, it's "probably" wrong. Edited November 2, 2021 by B1rvine

What's a gift you've given that put a smile on someone else's face? Honestly, have you been naughty or nice this year, and why? That time when my brother tipped me off to open the biggest present on Christmas eve (opening one present on Xmas eve was tradition). He whispered it would keep us entertained all night. I did, and it was the NES. My father looked quizzically at us and asked why I chose that one. After a pause I said, 'Because bigger is better?' He laughed, and it took me several more years to get why. I purchased my nephew a Wii. I stood outside of a Best Buy at three in the morning on a freezing day to get a number to go back later that day to get a Wii, which were selling out all over. He's loved video games ever since. I'm too nice. No idea why. The naughtiest thing I did all year was sneak cookies amidst talking about dieting.
BrilloHD
What holiday memory puts a smile on your face? Watching the old 1960s Batman movie and Sharknado with the family. What's a gift you've given that put a smile on someone else's face? Those mugs where you can put pictures on it. It's always an A+ gift. Pro tip. Honestly, have you been naughty or nice this year, and why? More nice than naughty. I don't get out much (partially for obvious reasons haha) and I try to be reserved online.

Honestly, have you been naughty or nice this year, and why? A memory I have that puts a smile on my face is playing the Grinch and Nicktoons Racing on Christmas morning while we waited for my mom and dad to wake up to open presents. A gift I have given that put a smile on someone else's face was my old neighbor when I got him a ps4. I've been probably more naughty than nice, but I've tried to be nice at least, because I have tried to avoid people so much all year lol.

Eagle
Gonna be a bit unoriginal here, but I'd say a fond holiday memory is spending time with my family, putting up the decorations for the Christmas tree and hoping Santa Claus would put the gifts under it the next morning. As for the "naughty or nice" question, maybe a bit too self-indulgent, but I'd say I've been really nice. Sometimes, I may come across as too brash on here (as much as I try to avoid it ), but the truth is that, IRL, I'm the guy that couldn't even harm a fly more out of sheer incompetence than anything but shh nobody needs to know that. Thanks for hosting this yet again, Birv! Didn't do so well last year, but let's see if this changes now.
Mesopithecus
What holiday memory puts a smile on your face? First Christmas my husband and I spent together, we got a real Christmas tree (which shall forever be known as the spider tree) and had great fun decorating it, and just having an all round awesome Christmas with lots of home baked goodies What's a gift you've given that put a smile on someone else's face? I bought a friend tickets to go and see a musical they were a huge fan of Honestly, have you been naughty or nice this year, and why? I'd say I've been fairly nice, spent a lot of the year studying, recovering from surgery and generally just trying to improve myself. Even at my worst of times I've tried to maintain being kind to people, rather than letting any bad mood vibes get the better of me
Ashbo
What a great opportunity this is, thanks guys for running it, very generous. What holiday memory puts a smile on your face? The birth of my daughter nearly 5 years ago. I enjoy Christmas, but nothing tops that moment. What's a gift you've given that put a smile on someone else's face? I bought a family member a behind the scenes zoo experience where they got to feed, clean, interact and learn about the animals and daily tasks carried out by the zoo keepers. They fully enjoyed it. Honestly, have you been naughty or nice this year, and why? The world is on it's arse at the best of times, so I try not to add to it and behave myself where possible.

Nieird
What holiday memory puts a smile on your face? When I gave my sister a WII and my mother played for the first and only time a video game(WII sport). It was everything you can imagine of someone that never played a video game.. What's a gift you've given that put a smile on someone else's face? I have young kids so pretty much every gift put a smile on their face but if I have to pick one, last year I gave my 3 years old daughter an empty amazon box just to see her reaction. She was really happy and we had a good laugh. Honestly, have you been naughty or nice this year, and why? My mother kept telling me that the box thing was'nt nice, so I guess I was naughty.

VigilantCrow
What holiday memory puts a smile on your face? When I was a much younger man my lobster captain once let me do Christmas on his docked boat. Nothing could beat an ocean view morning, home grilled bacon/egg breakfast and a pretty girl. I miss being young lol. What's a gift you've given that put a smile on someone else's face? 2 years ago I gave my niece a picture of a week old Golden Doodle Puppy. She was very pissed off at a cheap present, but was all smiles after I told her she was getting a puppy when it was ready. Honestly, have you been naughty or nice this year, and why? I've probably been more naughty than nice this year. Between dragging my buddies into Back 4 Blood and being a pain for poor Grave to deal with, definitely naughty.
B1rvine
Just a quick update for newcomers: To make sure nobody gets an advantage, I really don’t want to confirm if answers are correct in DMs, because an answer is on the borderline. As mentioned earlier, “a younger child should agree” with your answer. If you feel the need to explain a creative answer, or lesser known fact, etc, in your submission, that’s fine. However, if I’m scratching my head wondering how it’s a correct answer, it’s probably wrong. If it’s so “out there”, but “technically correct” but not in the spirit of things, it’s likely wrong. Example: My first contest I asked about a train, since people put up train sets during holidays. Someone asked if it has to be a “locomotive” train, since the definition of train includes other meanings, such as a pack of camels. That’s the sorta stuff I don’t want. In general, I’ll try to be lenient. Also note, there’s an appeal process after the results are released. Above all else, I hope you all have fun with this game!
