Here I am again, way sooner than i expected, as I thought this game was going to be a tough one, but it isn't.

Fury Unleashed is a roguelite shooter/platform composed of 10 randomized levels per run, where you fight your way to the exit against various enemies and bosses with a nice arsenal and a customizable skills tree. With aim-assist, auto-fire and powerful skills/weapons you can annihilate any enemy, just 2-3 bosses I found a bit annoying but anything else was simple enough.

I really liked this game and I recommend it although a bit of a grind is required for the platinum.

 

The main reason for why i give this game a 4/10 regardind difficulty is that you can save scum during the run, maybe this was added later in the game, but this makes your life way easier, so you can set your own checkpoints and reload them when you mess up. The hardest trophies require a run with 500 of combo, and a full run without never dropping the combo, which sounds intimidating, but once you level up enough you can get some very helpful skills and, combined with save scum, you won't have big problems. I was just about level 35 when i did the perfect combo+500 run which is a level you reach quickly enough.

The other "hard" trophy is to finish a run at the highest difficulty where you don't have your skills, again with save scum it won't be too bad, eventually you could also pause-exploit any boss you struggle with.

 

The grind is several misc trophies which require lucky conditions, hopefully once you get that condition you can save scum so that if you fail your trophy attempt you can revert the save and try again immediately, then you need to collect all weapons which is in part RNG from chests/shop and in part collecting blueprints found randomly in small rooms. The other slight grind may be to kill all bossess, most are optional and what you find is entirely RNG, so you may need several runs in a specific scenario before you find what you need.

 

 

I will go for Shatter from ps+ premium, which should be my last game from the sub, it looks difficult judging from the rarity so I will go for that.

This is gonna be a longer update because I have completed 7 more games since my last update.

 

Shiftlings: I played this with @Arcesius and first thing, finally a game that properly tracks all progress while playing COOP. Usually we encounter some issues when playing COOP games, be it progress not tracking correctly, trophies only popping for the host, etc.

 

You play as 2 alien-like creatures that are tied together via a cord. One alien is always small, can jump, can go through tight spaces, can interact with levers, jump cannons, while the other alien is always huge, can pull the small alien with it, can stand on buttons to activate them and act as a trampoline for the small alien. With a simple button press the roles can be changed on the spot, often necessary to progress the level.

The game has 5 worlds, each with 10 levels. Each level has 3 collectibles that often require some going out of your way. Each world introduces new mechanics while carrying over previous ones.

 

I enjoyed World 1-3, World 4 and 5 just started to piss me off. The game has platforming sections, while not getting it right what makes a good platformer. The hitboxes for the fat alien are atrocious, often getting killed by electrified gates without even touching them. The switching between big and small alien can be done by both players often resulting in confusing situations; I guess that's the point, be better at communicating but I often found myself annoyed. I prefer COOP games where I can still control my own actions and not be influenced by every single input someone else does, if that makes sense.

 

Trophy-wise. Play the game once while getting all collectibles, do some misc stuff, then speedrun each world individually. Each level can be completed seperately and a world has not be done in a single run. The times are very forgiving, often with 4-6 minutes to spare in a world.

 

 

Race The Sun: You control a solar-powered spaceship, dodging various objects on the way such as laser beams, other ships and other stationary obstacles, while gathering pick ups that can be used in game, all while the sun slowly sets on the horizon. The game ends either when you hit an object and the ship gets destroyed, or when the sun sets.

 

Downgrade the game to 1.00, use an exploit and basically get every trophy without any difficulties. Not much else to say here.

 

 

Laser Disco Defenders: A fun and short twin-stick shooter which main gimmick is that every bullet/laser you and enemies shoot stay in the level bouncing off from walls and posing an additional threat. You have to beat the story 4 times, once with each character. The characters only differ in movement speed and starting health. The slowest starts with the most hearts, while the fastest starts with only one heart, but every character can pick up hearts and get to 5 in a matter of a few levels so there is not a real downside to play the faster characters.

 

There are also 4 pick-ups with a one time use: A melee sword, very OP, a vortex that sucks in all lasers in your vicinity, a machine that allows shooting lasers for a short period that will disappear after the timer runs out and a slow-mo while aiming.

 

You also have equipment, 3 for head, 3 for torso, 3 for feet, each coming with different abilities but most are useless.

 

Story has 15 levels, all very short, with level 15 being the same boss fight for every character. There's also an endless mode.

 

If you like twin-stick shooter I'd recommend it when its on sale for 2 bucks.

 

 

 

Entwined: You control 2 entities, an orange fish with the left analog stick and a blue bird with the right analog stick. Each can only move around on their respective side. The goal is to collect power-ups to fill up the orange and blue bar while avoiding obstacles. When both bars are filled up you initiate a fusion sequence and need to avoid some more obstacles to make the fusion happen. After that you enter a small open area where you can fly around freely and collect some more power-ups without any dangers. Rinse and repeat 9 times.

 

Everything is very simple and easy however the challenge mode (endless mode) and its trophy asks you to unlock all 5 levels and the fourth one is pretty challenging, took me a couple hours to reach the point requirement.

 

Okay-ish game, was free with PS+ extra so can't complain.

 

 

Velocibox: You control a box in a kind of endless runner. The box can move left, right or switch to the opposite side you are moving on. Your goal is simple, avoid obstacles and collect 6 cubes to progress to the next level. There are 9 levels, with the last being a true endless runner. Your goal is to reach level 9 in ranked mode, meaning no-deaths allowed. Practice individual levels is possible in normal mode. While each level has fixed obstacle patterns, they are still randomized. That means sometimes tough luck and what feels like unfair deaths.

 

I was able to get consistent at 1-4, 5 and 6 were RNG hell and 7 I only reached a couple times before finishing it. 8 is a freebie where you can just move straight. Overall a run can be completed in roundabout 2 minutes. @Arcesius the perfect game for you.  

 

 

 

Cosmophony: Oh, what a lovely and enjoyable game. You control a goddess heart though 5 levels avoiding obstacles and shooting triangles to the rhythm of Drum and Bass soundtracks. No RNG BS just gid gud and learn the patterns. Level 1-3 are fairly simple, 4 starts ramping up the difficulty and 5 goes nuts. After a couple hours and a good night sleep it was manageable and felt really good to complete. I'm hooked for more, probably gonna start Superbeat: Xonic soon. @Arcesius I highly recommend Cosmophony, though not sure if the music will piss you off.

Not Not: A Brain Buster: Lastly, a puzzle game which demands quick thinking. You control a human on a cube, you can go in either of the 4 directions. The cube tells you where to go and you have a few seconds to react to the command. Starts off simple: Up, Down, Down, Right, etc. then it introduces Not Right, Not Left, etc. then colours, then coloured text like Yellow. It adds more and more variations.

 

There are three difficulties, Normal, Hard, Extreme and around 10 rows, each introducing a new variation. Normal requires 30 steps, Hard 40 and Extreme 50 and you have to do each without dying. Hard and Extreme add more confusion, so instead of Not Right, you get Not Not Right or Not Not Down and Not Up. Extreme adds another layer with Not Not Not and other shenanigans.

 

I was able to do every row except the last one without pause exploiting. The last row introduces The Liar, so whenever a cancel icon is on a command it is actually the opposite. So: Not Not Down would normally be Down but with the cancel icon it is actually Not Down. My brain was mush after a while.

 

Then there is challenge mode, you need to reach 200 steps without dying. My record was 120 without pausing. It introduces the variations from "story" mode one by one while progressing but also decreases the time you have to react the closer you get to 200. - Whoever manages 200 steps legit, you are indeed big brain.

This is a brick breaker game so there is barely anything to say, additionally you can slightly modify the trajectory of the balls by either sucking or blowing the air and you have a powerful attack once you get enough energy, you can also summon multiple balls at once, each one takes away a life but those are quickly restored through 1UPs dropped commonly when having 2 lifes or less. I found the game quite fun, although very frustrating due to a trophy.

You have to beat the story in a 1cc, as long as you don't rush and use the pause-exploit in some circumstances it isn't that bad. After a few miscs the last trophy is the one that makes the game a difficult one, a boss rush speedrun within 10m, with the game having a total of 10 bosses. This is a tough one because the time limit is quite stricted so you are forced to perform strategies that are chaotic and you need a good amount of luck as well, sometimes the ball will refuse to bounce where you need to and that's enough to screw the run, as well as other events like not enough powerups and unlucky collisions. I spent a full day on this game, mostly in this mode, I managed to clear it right before going to sleep.

 

 

 

 

 

 

This ends my ps+ premium games (most likely), I'm surprised I managed to clear all the stuff I wanted to in time. Time to begin the quarter hunt.

Completed 3 more games from my Tier 3 since my last update :  

 

 

• Ghost Recon Future Soldier, a 3rd person shooter, is scheduled to shut down on September 1st alongside other Ubisoft PS3 titles and since I've had this game on my hitlist for a while, I had to bump it up as my top priority. The first thing I would like to talk about is the crappy servers that this game has. It's easily the worst servers for a game I have ever witnessed. Me and my boosting partners could look up for the same game type at the same time and end up on two different lobbies. Go figure  I remember being unable to connect to anyone for 3 days in a row when I first tried. At that time I was really hesitating about fully committing myself to it because I was worried I would end up with unobtainables. Basically I had to contact my internet provider to ask them to open ports on my router. I also put my PS3 on DMZ "demilitarized zone". All of this worked wonders, I was able to connect with everyone. In fact, it worked so great that I was victim of my success, everybody was messaging me because they needed me to host in order for everyone to be able to join the lobby, which wasn't possible with other hosts ? Once those connection problems were behind me, the game proved to be very enjoyable. I made a lot of friends when going for the multiplayer grind which made the whole process less painful. I also enjoyed the campaign a lot. You play as a member of a military squad, you can do the campaign with up to 4 people. If you decide to do it solo, your 3 other teammates will be AI. And don't think you're losing the exchange because the AI is pretty good. In fact most challenges were easier to do with the AI than with boosting partners. All in all it was a great experience and I'm really glad I didn't throw in the towel when I first had those server issues ? You can check on my checklist for a full review of the game. 
• EVE: Valkyrie - Warzone is a 1st person spaceship shooter slated to shutdown on August 5th. The game got delisted without notice so I had to buy 2 different physical copies (NA and EU) and get it done quickly before the deadline. It was mainly a boost with my alt doing some boring grind like getting 50 wins in different game modes, getting a kill with all ships and a grind to level 50 that has to be done in public matches. The level trophies autopop from one stack to another but the rest of the grind has to be done all over again. I'm glad I got it done in time but it was a pretty forgettable experience. 
• In other news I finished the online components of Driver San Francisco, Killzone Shadow Fall and Rigs which means I'm up to date with all the upcoming shutdowns in the next few weeks. All I have to do now is tackle the single player for all these games ?

I am very happy to report that Eve: Valkyrie - Warzone has been completed!! Just in time for the server closure.

 

This now means that Tier 1 is finished for me I am going to get a list ready for Tier 2 and I'll update when it's ready!

Everybody’s Golf done. Had a lot of fun with this one. I may go do the PS1 classic now. Towards the end grinding out the 120 tournaments got a bit annoying though. In case you’re wondering I did use the glitch to get the condors but I felt guilty and got a condor legit on the Akigase dlc course. It actually wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be. If  anyone else is interested in this game there’s still time to finish before the servers close at the end of September but I would strongly recommend not waiting any longer.

Just finished Viking: Wolves of Midgard, bring my total up to a whopping 3 games completed

All in all a pretty fun game. The only trophy providing any level of intensity was the Finish Permadeath mode (Valhalla mode) on the Hardest difficulty.

You can definitely prepare for it with upgraded weapons stored in your stash from a previous playthrough and you can back up your save to cloud in case you happen to die, so it's not all that bad.

All in all, a fun game.

I'm also going to swap out Earthworm Jim and Bulletstorm and add Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 and Everspace.

Finally, took me 60 hours total but I felt like it took 100, JC2 did not age well. There's nothing challenging on the list, you basically have to finish the game on the hardest difficult and get 75% completion, it's possible to do everything in one playthrough but, since I was not liking the game at all, I chose to play on casual first. Hardcore doesn't make that big of a difference, enemies takes more shots to get killed and you die faster. Getting to 75% gets really boring after 60%, the progress is soooo slow.

Update:

Finished up Rayman Legends. Took a bit of will power to keep on with the daily and weekly challenges, and it was worth it in the end.  The main campaign and the bonus levels from Origins were really fun, even the challenge replays were cool. Even if the platinum grind does not seem appetizing, the game itself is a very solid and entertaining arcade platformer.  Ultimately, I was left wondering if I should dive into Origins and snag that plat as well.

 

Also played Pixeljunk Shooter Ultimate. A quick and relatively simple platinum. The multiplayer trophies are trivial. Effectively, its a twin stick puzzle shooter.  The levels and the power ups were pretty ingenious, but it felt like it went on for quite a while. It isn't really long... maybe I just mainlined it too intensely and ruined the fun.

 

Also, swapping out Brawlout and adding Fallen Legion, since I am about half way thru my plat journey. I will probably end up swapping out a few more of the tier, as I have made a personal stretch goal of finishing the Gaming by the Numbers using UR platinums. Wish me luck!

Considering it originally released on PS3 as 2 separate games it does feel overly long if you plow through it despite not actually being that long.

#10 I Am Bread

 

Difficulty: 6.5/10

Enjoyment: 5/10

 

I am bread is a simulation game containing 5 different game modes, each containing a different objective, such as toasting your bread, racing a bagel or collecting cheese. The game is designed with awful controls in order to frustrate the player as much as possible.

 

The biggest challenge consisted of earning an A++ on every stage from every mode. Each mode contains the same 7 locations to earn an A++ on.

 

 

Not a whole lot to comment on this game, especially as it's fairly well known. Thankfully a glitch allowing the player to fly when holding a small item makes this game very achieveable, I cannot imagine how difficult this game would be without it.

All the difficuly came in from the "cheese hunt" level(s) which require the player to find 5 pieces of cheese in predetermined locations under a tight timer in order to achieve A++. To top things off the cracker you use in this mode is VERY flimsy and recieves damage from any hard falls.

The difficulty in this mode compared to the others was apparent instantly although it was still very manageable until the dreaded "garden" level.

Honestly this stage alone took the difficulty from a 5/10 to a 6.5 for me, the gaps you had to clear while still being extremely precise made it really finicky to do ontop of the already tight timer allowing for next to no large mistakes. To make things worse the load screens on this game are SO LONG. Even on a ps5 a load screen would take 10+ seconds when you would retry a level, and the start of the level requires you to make a precise grab which was almost random that I would hit a little less than 50% of the time.

After a bit of grinding and luck I managed to pull off a fairly clean run securing the A++.

The garden is the second last level and it was almost hillarious how easy the final level felt after completing garden and learning all these small tricks of the cracker. I finished it second try achieving the platinum.

The second COD with the biggest amount of UR's was easier than my group anticipated.

• Multiplayer: Extremelly fun, after BO2 (and not considering MWR because that's a remaster) it was the first COD with an actual good MP, I remember playing the beta for like 70 hours in 4 days and grinding like crazy when the game came out. MP trophies are easy, just play the game for a bit focusing on some stuff and you'll get them all.
• Campaign: Not that bad, WAYTOODANK imo (here's a good example). Veteran was easy, some miscellaneous were annoying.
• Zombies: Undoubtedly the most unique atmosphere in the franchise, unfortunately this wasn't enough to make me consider one of the bests, I found it to be way too slow. Here's where we were expecting trophies to get tough and it that was not the case, playing with a group of friends definetely helped (some steps for the EE's must be hard af solo) and we basically one shoted everything.

An overall pleasant experience for sure.

Hello again, time for another update after half a year. I get easily sidetracked and Elden Ring had me replaying it for 4 months straight so yeah, if a FromSoft game releases I just let my massive backlog unattended and starving to death like a methhead's baby. Sorry for that. I mean, I'm the ultimate trophy procrastinator already(almost 10 years and Vanquish is still incomplete, what the fuck?) now pair that with Elden Ring being released and the result is trophy hunting laziness squared.

 

Anyways, enough excuses:

 

Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus

Rarity: 0.95%

 

This game doesn't know if it wants to be full blown satire or if it wants to be awkwardly serious in a Twitter kind of way, it doesn't know if it wants to be a badass, kickass out-of-bubblegum shooter or a stealth game. The end result, of course, is a myriad of half-assed components failing to impress on even the simplest of levels: The comedy is more miss than hit, the graphics are good until a dog that looks like it's still trying to render shows up, the characters are all annoying stereotypes or whiney babies (what have they done to my BJ... nothing but a 24/7 whiney bitch now) and the gameplay is as half-assed as literally everything else. 

 

So in the end, a trophy like Mein Leben feels like a slap in the face. A trophy that demands perfection from the player in a game that is closer to perfection's antonym instead. Want more? Wolfie 2 also has a ridiculous, pointless grind of one thousand helmets which is already bad enough but adding insult to injury, there's no way to track said trophy. This is a game that has a bunch of pointless statistics mind you, with one of them being "amount of joke-enemy-type-that-only-appears-once killed" but they can't make a tracker for the fucking helmets... Did the idiot that made the trophy list even play the game?

You can add unskippable cutscenes and glitched trophies to the cons list as well, with "Starting a collection" and "Ghost" being the usual culprits. I was affected by the former.

 

Anyways, enough ranting. 

 

One quick look at my ultra rare platinums and you'll see that this and Bulletstorm (an easy ultra rare) are my only UR FPS. That's because I'm not a FPS fan (except for ?Bioshock?, OMFG Ken Levine please come back you fucking dramaqueen!) What am I trying to say with this? That perseverance is all that it takes in order to tackle this, so even an FPS noob like me can do it... Mein Leben took me 6 days, with 1-3 attempts per day.

 

Personal difficulty rating: 8/10

 

Maybe I could have finished Killzone 2 after all... RIP... Its ok, K2 is one of my several battle scars now. Unattainable platinums only make me stronger.

 

Anyways, I don't know if my words rustled any jimmies in here, these are my opinions, but always remember: watch Dr Strangelove for actual, competent WWII satire. The clowns at MachineGames actually tried to reference said masterpiece with that Fergus scene... only they forgot to make it funny, lol.

Before I forget again. I completed Baja: Edge of Control the other day. It was a good off-road racing game. Nothing mind-blowing but it had some nice ideas for the time. The rarity is due to most of the trophies being bugged to hell depending on which version of the game you play. Most can be popped on version 1.00 but you'll need to update to 1.02 for the mileage ones. I'll develop my thoughts more on this game through a status update whenever I have time for it.

 

 

At this rate, I may be able to finish my Tier 1 list before this year is over, lol.
