Metal Gear Rising done!!! This one was crazy. Despite the years, this game is still amazing. And it is a Kojima game, so if you aspect character full of craziness, you will be not disappointed ? combat system is remarkable but you have to get used to parry system and it will take a bit of time. For sure in the top 3 of hack and slash games.

I haven't posted in this topic since March, but I finally have another completion in Fantasy Strike. I saw the new way to cheese wins in survival from the published PSNP guide without getting stuck in an endless loop of online matches, so I hooked up my PS4 and just challenged myself anytime I needed to recover. Got both the 35 and 50 survivals done in four hours, 50 took quite a few tries because I wasn't paying attention to my character's health at times (and the game crashed because... it does that). Just used Rook and his basic and attacks, nothing else was needed.

Here is my first update of Tier 2. I've decided not to have a planned list that I keep swapping all the time (a habit from the contest last year) and just complete games as I go along.

First up, I'm happy to say that Driver: San Francisco has been completed as the first game on Tier 2!

Star Ocean: The Last Hope done for the second time and made it my platinum #200 milestone.

 

Took 420 hours in total, an improvement from the 550 hours it took me back in the day on the 360. I found it easier to grind this time as my setup nowadays allows me to watch videos on the side as I grind unlike before where I used to play games on a big screen TV away from my computer.

Yet another VR Ultra Rare game cleared, this time not platinum.

Unearthing Mars 2 - I would say its a simple shooter where you can abuse slow-motion, and pretend you are God Of War's Kratos , but with a gun.

Multiple boss sequences of over the top action, somewhat interesting story about aliens that inhabited the Earth before us , and a leftover knowledge capsule that includes a sentient AI, that OFC wishes to transform humans into their own species, but there is another AI alien in there that wants to protect humans. 

Game is alright if you want to just go in VR and shoot some stuff after work.

Although, you do have a kill all bosses without dying, which doesnt have to be in a row or anything like that, but its still a bitch to do.

This game grew on me a little slower than it seems to grow on most others but I was hooked by the end.

 

Unpopular opinion: the Dunwall Trials are the best thing about this game. Yes, it is unnecessarily difficulty/RNG-based to get By My Hand Alone and Daredevil. And yes, Headhunter and the three star requirement for Bonfires Expert are also bogus. But the trials were still my favourite part of the game. Stripping down the many components that Dishonored brought together for each of the 10 trials were what made the game shine for me. Those custom built levels brought out the best of me and I thank the game for that.

 

I have now started Dishonored 2 and it seems even better thanks to strong first impressions. Other than that, all other gaming efforts are almost entirely put towards this event as I chip away at the remaining five games:

 

N++ [57% earnt, 4.11% completion] and Grip: Combat Racing [39% earnt, 2.76% completion] are looong burns but I'm working through them at a steady pace.

Slain: Back from Hell [5% earnt, 3.95% completion] graced my PS4 this week for the first time. It looks and sounds incredible.

Superhot [61% earnt, 4.01% completion] is next in my crosshairs as it should take the least amount of time. I'd like to hit September with some momentum. The end of the year is fast approaching.

I'll swap out Dying Light (too long!) for Clustertruck [57% earnt, 1.11% completion]. Maybe I can revisit that game and try to defeat that prick of a final boss.

8th game cleared, +5 points.

 

Bleed 2 (2.72%)

Difficulty: 8-8.5/10

Fun: 7/10

Time spent: 25h

 

The game works like the prequel, a shooter-platform where you fight some enemies and lots of bosses. This time though, deflecting bullets is almost mandatory, however they can be of 2 colours and you can deflect just the one of your character, so the game becomes also a bit luck based, as it is perfectly possible to get trapped by projectiles that you can't deflect.

The slow motion trick from Bleed 1 has been removed so you can't use it too much anymore but at the same time the game is a bit less dependant from it.

Same weapons as the prequel but you can't upgrade your character anymore, which means less health and slow motion.

Also, now the game barely offers normal enemies and is more focused on bosses, some of them can be super annoying if you are unlucky.

 

The platinum is harder in my opinion, due to the changes mentioned above, also this time the spike in difficulty from Hard to Very Hard in arcade is super massive, like playing a new game: one hit can take you almost 1/4 of your health, some bosses are super fast and they can overlap 2 attacks which means you can be trapped if unlucky and not reactive enough. While it is true that now you have some Health Ups scattered around (to restore a bit of health), it is only 6 of them for a 30min run, and each only restores 1/4 of the health (for Very Hard), not to mention that 4 of them are all located before the stages become quite tough, so from the hardest part (from stage 5 to 7) if you are here with full health you can only afford to be hit a maximum of 6-7 times. That part was so brutal that I have eventually almost mastered the previous stages where i'd get hit mostly due to boresome. Stage 6 has a boss fight composed of 4 phases (although the 4th can be easily cheesed), each of them has at least one bullshit attack that can annihilate your run, in fact on phase 1 you can be surrounded by some bots who all will shoot you with both projectiles' colours, so you may get trapped if the path you try to escape from gets filled with your opposite colour. On phase 2 there is an attack that will cover all the screen except for a small portion where you must go in time, however the game may prank you by putting a zig-zag path from one side to the other multiple times in a row, so you could eventually not make it to the next gap once your slow motion ends, and on phase 3 the boss has a teleporting attack that may force you to heavily use your slow motion which may end while the boss still wants to heavily pressure you, not to mention her laser almost instant-triggering and that I found best to dodge by circling around but the boss may teleport on your path, hitting you.

After all that you must then beat the last stage which has 5 bosses, where the second one is super fast and may trap you sometimes, and the last has double-health and is very fast, sometimes he may overcome your speed when he wants to hit you with his sword... on my successful run I somehow reached him with plenty of health, and lost almost all of it.

 

 

Some people recommend to use some other characters for Arcade, but I found them horrible to control.

 

Anyway, the pain is not over yet, in fact the trophy list is heavily glitched: an arcade trophy will most likely glitch if you "get" it at the same time of another trophy, so you will have to repeat the run again. Then the story completion trophies with various characters may glitch out, I think you have a sort of limited available runs in Story before the mentioned character trophies perma-lock on your save, forcing you to start from scratch. And the Endless mode (random generated levels, which are taken from Bleed 1) cleared 3 times in a row is heavily glitched as well, I had to wipe my save twice before getting the trophy.

 

 

My ps+ premium will be over soon, I think I will push for Siren since I really love horror games and have a few days free from work.

I tried to clean this one up, but getting every question right in a 9 round game is just too damn lucked based. So many of the questions are just not searchable because they are so obscure, and there are several that don't even have the correct answers meaning you just have to guess and pray. I just can't deal with the level of luck needed to get good questions.

I always forget how much slower the older sonic games are then the modern ones. Yeah they have sections of speed, and the games can be completed stupidly fast if you know what you are doing. But for the average player there is a lot more slow paced precision platforming then you would think for a character know for going fast. It controls in a very slippery way as well compared to most platformers, which makes sense when you are going fast, but less sense when you are moving slowly.

 

It's also actually pretty damn hard. If I couldn't save anywhere in this I would not have even finish it. Save scumming was my saving grace. As far as ultra rares, you got two. Online Racer for winning 10 online games, and predictably only ultra rare because its an online mode that no one ever played, even when it just released on PS3. I got this done four years ago when I got my second PS3. Conquering Time is the second ultra rare for speed running the game in under one hour. Not particularly hard as far as speed runs go. You can clear the game with 10-15 minutes to spare. That said you do need to make a save at the start of every new stage so that you can practice until you get a good time for the level. Being not very good it did take me far longer then I am willing to admit to complete some of these levels with a good time.

 

The only other annoying trophy is getting all the chaos emeralds. The mini-game you play to get them is awful. I hated it. Controls terribly, has a ton of blind sections where you round a corner to run into bombs, and the ring requirements are super tight. Took me many many attempts to get them done. Again gotta praise save scumming because I would have lost my mind if I could not save after I completed the stages of this mini-game. That said I think the only reason this has ultra rares is because it was on PS+ in the past. If it had not been the tricky trophies would likely have been very rares.

 

Fun fact: This is now my longest completion time at 11 years and 2 months to get it done. First trophy was on June 28th 2011. Last was on August 27th 2022.

Another plat, another few changes. 

 

Finished Operation Warcade. Certainly not a great game, but it was pretty much what I felt like playing, a mindless gallery shooter. 

 

Started up Sonic Forces and remembered that I enjoy like 95% of Sonic games before a couple of challenges really get under my skin. Overall, I have enjoyed my time with the game. Hunting down the red star rings, the number rings and the silver moon rings was pretty fun. The levels are short and snappy. Most of the challenges were no problem. Maybe 2-3 were really annoying. The time trials of the 2 last bosses were a decent test and a grind on a patience. All of that is behind me, just need the daily challenge trophy to pop the plat and 100%. After Generations and Forces, I think the logical next step is Mania. Def not interested in beating my head into the brick wall that is Unleashed. 

 

Removed Bulletstorm and Lone Survivor for now. Just not feeling Bulletstorm, or any FPS, really. Lone Survivor may be coming up soon for the spooky season. I left LBP3, since action platformers with challenges still have not worn out their welcome, despite Sonic Forces.

 

Added Rez Infinite. Recently did Thumper in VR, and I sense Rez is probably as fun and slightly easier. Still in the mood for some rhythm and shooting. Should be quick to knock out.

I figured, it would be better to just do a summary when I'm done with the Tier since I knew this month will be packed.

 

Nidhogg:

The premise, you fight in a 1v1 against another player/AI with a sword equipped and you have to reach your opponents final screen. Killing the opponent grants you the "Arrow" which allows you to continue. If your opponent kills you, you loose the Arrow to the opponent.

All trophies are very straightforward, some can be boosted. The only real "challenge" lies in the campaign or whatever you want to call it, in which you have to beat 16 AI opponents back to back without loosing once. There's a simple trick to avoid loosing progress in case you get killed. Just let your opponent win the round and you restart at the beginning of that fight (e.g. AI 4 kills you, let him get to your final screen and win - Fight 4 restarts)

 

The AI can be a real asshole, sometimes braindead, sometimes sitting in your final (winning) screen (you dont spawn there anymore) and he just needs to move to the left but instead starts teabagging and jumping around as if there is still danger ahead. 3 out of the 4 maps have nice strats that work most of the times and minimize RNG. Often times its best to just hop over your opponent and continue to the next screen.

@Baker this one is for you. A true masterpiece. A game that will still be remembered as the best game ever in a thousand years. It's groundbreaking game mechanics, beautiful visuals, enchanting sounds. It is truly a game to behold.

 

No, just kidding. It's shit. Save scumming the more difficult trophies and yet it was annoying as hell. No need for more words on this game.

 

 

Fantasy Strike:

It seems, I really like playing shit games.. Fantasy Strike is a budget Fighting Game. It runs like shit on PS5, constantly crashing, ruining progress on some trophies that take longer like survive 50 opponents. Most trophies are so easy, it is actually mind boggling that almost all of them are Ultra Rare. I guess because it is f2p but most trophies are locked behind a DLC pack you have to buy.

 

 

Slain: Back from Hell:

Finally, a decent game again. Story-wise I have no clue whats going on. You are some dude awaking back from the dead with a gigantic sword and have to battle your way through several locations, killing everything in your way in 2D. This is soley a close-combat game, magic exists but I decided to do one playthrough, so I was not allowed to any. Unfortunately there is also a no-death trophy, so I had to back up my save regulary. I really disliked this part, its successor Valfaris had a 10-death trophy and also range weapons and so was much more manageable. 

In Slain I encountered too many BS sections and one boss in particular had these amazing attack pattern which, if you are unlucky, cannot be dodged/avoided. 

 

Overall alright experience, however I prefer weapons I can shoot.

 

 

Absolver:

Most of you probably know what Sifu is about. Close-Combat punching with style. Absolver is its predecessor. It is a very short SP experience and its main focus lies in PvP. Now, there are over 150 different moves you have to learn and using them, in my opinion, is way too complicated. You can switch between 4 stances, each stance can be assigned with 3 different attacks and you can't just put any attacks in any order because some don't work with other because you switch stances between the attacks as well. Sounds complicated already? Now you can block in all 4 directions but reacting to your opponents attacks is often times impossible, at least reacting with the correct block.

 

So I cheesed the SP part with very easy combos, the AI isnt that bright. I self-boosted the MP part (wins mainly) and @Dzware was so kind to teach me all the moves/attacks in a matter of a couple hours. Thanks again  

 

 

I am Bread:

At first I was playing Giana Sisters but this game drained the life out of me (more later), that I thought it would be a fabulous idea to instead play the infamous Bread game. Everyone knows what this game is, so I save myself from explaining it.

 

However I want to give a brief summary and rating of the 5 different modes:

1. Bagel Run is probably the easiest. You roll through very short parcours trying to land on the plate in time. The times for A++ can be tight but you can abuse the restart at checkpoint to gain much better control over tight turns or even obstacles that have a checkpoint right after it, so you dont loose much momentum.
2. Zero-G lets you fly as a bread with small rocket boosters equipped to all 4 corners. At first the controls are very confusing but after 5-10 minutes I got the hang of it and was able to finish the mode in less than an hour.
3. Rampage.. seriosuly fuck that mode. You play as a baguette and the controls or how the baguette reacts to your inputs is just horrendous. You have to cause as much damage as possible by destroying glasses, plates, frames etc. Keeping up the combo is crucial but with a good route in mind, this becomes doable with after some tries. Also, attaching an item to your baguette allows you to fly through the level, making this much easier.
4. Story is the main-game, you play as a bread and you need to reach a source of heat to toast yourself. Orignally this mode can be very difficult but with the "Small-Item-Fly" glitch, it becomes much easier. The glitch basically allows you to "fly" or jump much greater distances than usual when you attach a small object to your bread.
5. Cheese Hunt.. oh dear Cheese Hunt. You play as a crispbread and need to find and attach 5 cheese to you. The "SIF"-glitch becomes crucial here (I know people completed it without the glitch but I didn't want to suffer even more). Every level was ok, but Garden was an absolut nightmare. It felt like I spent the same amount of time in that level alone as I did in everything else in that game.

Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams - DC:

A platformer where you switch between two sisters at a fly. One can jump and spin/fly while the other one can do a dash and eliminate enemies. When switching between the two, the enviroment, enemies and hazards change, e.g. imps become birds, rabbits become frogs, thorns retreat into the ground while crystals now become a hazard, etc. You have to switch quite a lot to progress through the levels.

 

Trophy-wise this game drained the fun out of me. You have to play each level at least 4 times, if you dont mess up the no-death run or the 5-star run (less than 5-6 deaths and 90% of gems collected). Each level has at least 300 gems and more often than not its around 500-600. I did not enjoy that at all. Granted the gems are often found in large amounts but if you end up missing one or two huge chuncks hidden in secret areas, or you die one too many times, well have fun replaying. Usually I dont mind replaying levels a lot in platformers but this one simply didn't feel quite right. There are over 40 levels in total and some of the levels take 9-12 minutes when collecting most gems and trying to be careful about not dying. The speedruns of each level were the most enjoyable.

 

Don't Die, Mr. Robot!:

Quick and short game. You control a "Blop", trying to avoid enemies and collecting fruits, which in turn explode and kill enemies. Levels come in all kinds of variations, kill x amount of enemies, collect x amount of fruit, survive x amount of time, some come with restrictions like, you can only move on a vertical or horizontal line, a certain fruit is deadly, you can only move around in a closed area etc. 

There are also some other characters you have to unlock, each having a different ability and quirk.

 

You need to achieve platin in 50 levels, then do some misc stuff that is very easy. Quite enjoyed the game.

This is a horror-stealth game that I don't know what it talks about, in fact the story was so complex that I barely understood something, but looks like the typical ritual thing story that turns everything into monsters.

The trophy list is not hard, it's the game itself to be that, in fact the map is very dark and there's plenty of fog so you can't see well what is happening a couple of meters away from you, you can use a special ability to see through the eyes of the monsters to have a bit of an idea about where they and you are, yet stealthing can be a annoyance. You play as multiple characters, some have weapons and some haven't, the combat system is a bit weird with you and the monster having a 1v1 melee fight where it's all a matter of timing and maybe some luck, but whatever you kill they will respawn shortly afterwards.

 

Overally it was a good game to play, it has some issues regarding controls and the gameplay itself but it's a ps2 game so I can't pretend much. There is a good video-guide in order to 100% the game which is required for several trophies. after that there are a few quick trophies left before finishing the list. The guide is a huge lifesafer, otherwise the difficulty would be around 8 or 8.5 since there are a lot of super hidden actions to do in order to proceed in the game, as well some annoying parts where you can be killed in a second without a good strategy.

Ultra Rare Cleanup 2022 for poetic_justice_ (August Update)

Some progress this month with the 100% completion of Predator Hunting Grounds. It's a decent game with buggy trophies and unnecessarily long grinds. Lots of movie tie-ins though, which was impressive. Arnold Schwarzenegger narrates the Dutch Tapes, the first time his presence has been in anything Predator since 1987.

 

I’m frustrated that my July NG+ Ultra Hard playthrough of Horizon Forbidden West does not count as ultra rare. This DLC is free to all Horizon FW owners, and I believe its trophies should be considered on equal footing with the base game. I know this won’t change anything on PSNP, but the logic of “DLC trophies should be considered separately” should not apply to free DLC, as financial accessibility is not an issue. Rant concluded.

I finally finished tier 1!

 

7 days to die - 100%

This is one of those survival games without a story where you just do whatever you want and survive. So when it comes to trophies that's the only thing that gives the game an actual goal. I did the online trophies with @VirtualNight and while it looks like he didn't have any fun base on his post, I managed to get some enjoyment out of it. If you are into building stuff it can be a lot of fun. It is a shame the console version got abandoned. The trophies aren't difficult but take a while.

 

Mercenaries 2 - 100%

This is a game I had played before it even had trophies (14 years ago!!!). A few months ago I came across a used copy so I decided to pick it up and now that the servers are closing I decided to give it a go. Fortunately the online stuff are quick and managed to knock them out in one night. Big thanks to @Shlomo_Sheckles for the help. The game is fun but unfortunately it doesn't reach its full potential because of the bugs and overall jankyness. Again there isn't anything difficult but there are some rage inducing moments like trying to capture the HVTs while their comrades kill them or they just die for no reason lol.

Persona 4 Arena Ultimax - It was fun to plat this game, especially after dealing with the original release in the same year. Lists don't even compare, Ultimax felt like a breeze compared to the OG one. 

Also for some reason the PS4 version is way more unstable than the PS3 one.
