Velocity 2X

This was a pretty fun game. I had no experience with Velocity Ultra, so I didn't really know what to expect going into this one. The game was overall easier to 100% than I expected, but that's not necessarily a bad thing  

 

The last three levels in the main game have you control two mirrowed ships at once, and there is an entire DLC consisting of 10 levels using that mechanic exclusively. Initially I thought I would never manage to wrap my head around that type of gameplay, but it is really fun to see how quickly you start to assimilate that gameplay and it starts feeling somewhat natural. 

 

Overall a fun and short 100%  

 

Next up? I have a business trip coming up so probably nothing new for a couple of days. I might then jump into Neon Drive or start Fury Unleashed if @Mori isn't too busy with God of War, as we planned on giving that one a go in coop  We'll see. 

This is an indie game I can’t recommend enough to people. Challenging but fair. Hard but not overly frustrating. Tight, responsive controls. Good techno music. 
 

The DLC has stricter time requirements for ‘PERFECT’. The PS Vita version allows for touch teleport which makes the Dual Core DLC far easier. Short levels, but extremely tight on the time limit. You have to do everything flawlessly. 
 

Can’t remember if I recommended this game on your thread. Glad to see you finished Surgeon Simulator. Curious how I Am Bread will turn out, I was so frustrated with Surgeon Simulator.

 

Shame Velocity Ultra isn’t on PS4/PS5, it’s not as hard as Velocity 2X but it’s a fun indie game. Purely a shmup, doesn’t have the platforming bits.

GAME 10 DONE! ? Just in time too!
Thumper was initially set to be my final game, but I had made great progress in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War so I figured I'd go ahead and do that instead!



Like other Treyarch Call of Duty games, Cold War is split into the standard campaign, multiplayer, and zombies modes. This time around, I actually found the campaign to be really solid! It's got some great stealth missions as you work undercover in the Soviet Union to unravel information for your CIA informants, featuring the prominent Russell Adler, your long-time war friend from Vietnam...
Given that this game is set during the Cold War, you learn of the nefarious nature of both the US and Soviet Union respectively, and how they manipulate people through valour... and force.

Multiplayer isn't too bad in this game for the most part, but the Fireteam mode for one of the trophies is pretty dead so you'll have to make sure to boost that if you want a good shot, especially if you don't live in more populated countries-- the mode is full on dead for us Aussies! ? While I'm at it, I gotta say, this game's size is huge! Took up a great amount of my console's space, so that's just a heads up-- be prepared to temporarily remove some games!

And lastly is zombies. Interestingly, BO3 and BO4 seemed to wrap up the story for the good ol' Primis crew with Richtofen and the others. So in this new iteration, you're now able to play as Woods in zombies... ? That aside, it's got some great quality of life changes. Unlike BO3, you no longer need to tell your team to reload before max ammo drops, everyone just gets all their ammo now! On top of that, carpenter drops replenish your armour. You no longer need to turn your back and intentionally let zombies loose on your near-broken shield etc... you can even buy back armour at specific stations too, using up random scrap pieces that zombies drop. With that, you can also use scorestreaks from multiplayer in zombies as well! ? On that note, this iteration of zombies also features an Onslaught mode, pitting you in multiplayer maps where you must stay within the radius of a floating purple orb, otherwise you take damage. In this radius, you're tasked with killing zombies to fill it's power and complete a surge (essentially a round) before it moves to a new location on the map. Every three rounds, you fight an Elite enemy, like the Megatons on Die Maschine. I find the best strategy is to get at least a shotgun, pop a Ring of Fire which boosts your damage a ton, and you kill these things in 10 seconds max. However, it IS a mixed bag because these maps are clearly designed for multiplayer, not zombies, so more often than not you'll be training zombies only to be caught in a narrow hallway with a zombie ahead of you, and there's really not much you can do in that scenario.
And of course, Dead Ops makes a return. Reunited with Fidolina was one of the most infamous CoD trophies, since you needed to reach the very end (over 60 rounds) and beat the Mamaback without losing. No saves.
But now, they've made it so that you can return to around your last highest round, allowing you to continue. Otherwise... this trophy would've been one of the hardest things for CoD ever... So thanks Treyarch for showing mercy on us! ?

With that, I'm all done for the event, all 10 games for my tier done. Best of luck to everyone else for these final days of 2022!

Tier 2 Update - Last Minute Post

My last update was way back in April, but I figured I'd get one last post in before we close out 2022! Let's get to it.

**I'm swapping out Wuppo for Plutobi using the 24-hour rule (previous tier declaration can be found here).

Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD (4.29%): Growing up with Super Monkey Ball 1, 2, and whatever "Adventure" was, I went into Banana Blitz HD expecting to shake hands with an old friend. But friends change and sometimes you'll see a skeleton or two poking out of their closet when you least expect it. BBHD is much like SMB 1 and 2 except you can jump now (if this isn't peak "innovation", I don't know what is). Oh, and there's boss battles now. Surprisingly, it all worked together pretty well and I enjoyed catching up with my old friend's adventures. The mini-games though, they were the skeletons hiding in the closet. Ick.
  

Verlet Swing (0.88%): This psychodelic-first-person-Spider-man-sim has you swinging like a madman from pizza, meatballs, and ice cream cones to earn higher teacup rankings. It never tries to make sense, it just dares to exist. Though it might present itself like free asset shovelware on the outside, I promise you it has a beating heart of gold on the inside. If you want to test yourself with one of the hardest deathless platforming challenges on PS4, consider tackling the game's "Hardcore Marathon Challenge." 

Slime-San (3.99%) - Imagine waking up, taking a shower, ironing your clothes, eating breakfast, driving two hours to your 9 to 5 office job, grabbing lunch alone (again), getting back to work, driving two more hours home, watching 30 minutes of TV, and passing out. Now imagine if a platformer could make you *feel* as though this all happened to you. That's Slime-San: mundane, formulaic, soulless, and depressing. Skip it.

 

Catherine (1.95%) - Platinum #250. This game will always remind me of my freshman year in college. I was confused, stressed, struggling to hold on to the few friends I had left, and terrible at puzzle games like Catherine. None of that's changed... now I just have a platinum to look at when I'm feeling nostalgic.

Yakuza 0 (4.47%): No one needs me to tell you that Yakuza 0 is worth your time. It's one of the best experiences you can find on PS4. Incredible story, addicting gameplay, lovable cast, and some top-tier side content (karaoke, Cabaret Club management, Real Estate, disco dancing, need I go on?).

 

Star Wars Squadrons (0.65%): Pew-pew, more URs. A little grindy for my taste and the state of the multiplayer is rough nowadays, but it has a pretty good campaign if nothing else. I missed the Rogue Squadron games and had to see if this could live up to their legacy. It certainly tries.

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2 (3.51%): I thought I was pretty good at Pro Skater until I played this remake... turns out I just have a pretty good imagination. I'm a little better now though! Some of the hard "get-theres" were maddening (School II made me want to cry in a corner just like actual School), but at least I feel more capable having pushed through to the end. Awesome remake overall and fingers crossed for a 3 + 4 someday or a remake of the Underground games!

Fantasy Strike (0.65%): UR fodder that's actually fun to play. I wish more fighting games had such simple and intuitive combat. My attention span is too short to cope with complex combos.

Pox Nora (0.69%) - Nearly all of us here are guilty of playing trash for UR trophies, but this might be the worst I've played this year. If you want to go through all the effort of matching against yourself on PC to experience one of the most mediocre card games on the planet, be my guest. 

Plutobi: The Dwarf Planet Tales (3.23%) - You ever miss the days when Pluto was still a planet? Sure. What about the days when Pluto used to eat every planet in the solar system and fight the sun for dessert? I guess. What I don't miss is gameplay that feels like blowing peas through a straw. Also, if one more person plays and earns the platinum for this game, I'll lose like 26 UR trophies and that person will gain 2. Nobody touch it pretty plz.

That's it for my tier 2! There were a few other games like Sine Mora EX and Futuridium EP Deluxe that I finished while I was away, but nothing worth writing home about. I'll post my first tier for 2023's event soon!

Swapping in my third and final completed UR of the year, Medal of Honor!!

 

After a long absence from gaming of any kind for a majority of the year, I’ve been getting back into the swing of things for past couple of months. 
 

I’d first played MOH way back when it released in 2010 before trophying was a thing for me and had sold the disc long ago. Hearing of the impending server shutdown I was compelled to find a copy and have a short trip down memory lane! 
 

The campaign isn’t long, you can run through it on Hard in a few hours and it’s alright, nothing special but not terrible. Tier 1 mode is where the fun was at for me though. (This will be affected by the shutdown). It’s Hard mode with no respawns, limited ammo and against the clock. It’s really not as bad as it sounds, especially if you’re comfortable on FPS, as on all missions I had several minutes to spare.

 

As for the multiplayer, it took less than 9h to round up all the trophies, but the majority of the boosting was done in around 3. Some of the trophies require time spent in certain game modes. If you’re considering attempting this before the servers close I’d recommend starting it sooner rather than later as the MP is dead, and I mean completely dead. The most players I seen online was 37 - and that’s in the entire world ?

Last 2 games done for the year!

FIFA 09 was just on my profile because my cousin played on my profile for 5 minutes back in the day, so I never actually properly played the game. All the offline trophies were either just simulating matches, doing a bunch of menuing/transfers or just playing on amateur difficulty scoring a couple goals and idling the rest of the match. Easy trophies, just very boring and only did it to increase my completion a bit.

 

Resogun on the other hand was a lot of fun. I got the plat for this a few years ago, but back then wasn't confident in my abilities at all, so just got carried for the veteran playthrough.. ?

This time around I actually properly played the game and it wasn't nearly as hard as I expected. The only challenging trophies can be done in co-op to reduce the difficulty by a lot, so all in all there wasn't anything frustrating, though I feel like it's quite doable solo as well (except the no dying in local co-op trophy maybe).

 

Tier 5

Zombie Vikings (4.35%, PS4) - 100%

FIFA 09 (0.04%, PS3) - 69% 

Resogun (0.37%, PS4) - 100%

 

So that concludes the year for me trophies wise pretty much. Pretty happy with ~500 UR trophies and 43 UR completions, though I'll definitely slow down for next year as I want to focus more on good and challenging UR games rather than just racking up the numbers with whUR games, which I've done a bit much this year ?

Just managed to achieve my 300th platinum trophy last night and sneak in my final UR Clean Up submission for 2022! I’ve been playing this game off & on for 2 years now. It requires many playthroughs and worst parts of the platinum journey (mostly online parts) are very tedious and grindy, which caused me to burn out a couple times and move on to other things for awhile, but I would always come back.

 

Max Payne 3 is, without a doubt, one of the greatest third-person shooter games ever made. Everything about it is dripping in style and sprinkled with Max’s moody existential nihilism. The visuals, the music, the characters and set pieces, the intense gunplay, and the witty, sarcastic commentary from Max all mix together into what I can say is easily one of my favourite games ever.
 

Although I got burnt out on the grinding and boosting a couple times, I never really got tired of playing through the story itself, which was a blessing considering you are forced to endure the same cut scenes and scenarios dozens of times in the quest for the platinum. Very few games would not overstay their welcome after so many runs, but somehow Max Payne 3 never really does.

 

In my most recent return, I ran through the game 2x on hardcore for practice and to refamiliarize myself with all the enemy spawns and painkillers again, then I ran through NYM mode. By this point I was pretty much channeling the skills of Max Payne himself, and my NYMHC run only ended up taking me 4 attempts which was a big relief! I did a write up on my experiences with Arcade Mode here.

Tier 3 Game 1
 

Little Nightmares

3/10, 10 hours Seemingly a cute horror game, playing as a kid trying to run away from a house filled with 20 meter giants , different types of giants each signifying each of the 7 Sins. Game is very open to interpretation,this is mine ,so take that into consideration. Giants hold captive small kids and some kind of babys with triangle heads. Those kids can be hugged, which actually counts as a collectibles type. Game takes around 2 hours for the full 100% run. Then comes the UNDER 1 HOUR SPEEDRUN AND NO DEATHS PLAYTHROUGH. IT AINT THAT HARD AS IT SOUNDS. Guide has it as a 3/10 and it's an UR cause people get scared very easily from reading trophies. Each of the 3 DLCS follows a different kid ,all set during the base game. If you liked base game ,dlcs will also be a fun thing to do. 

 

Tier 3 Game 2

 

Race The Sun

3/10 , 4 hours, 7 years 6 months - Infinite Runner game , minimalist style, simple ,but quite enjoyable. Doing it legit is hard , but if depatched to 1.0.0. version makes the game into a 3/10 since a glitch makes everything count as 1 run. NOTE: Even with the glitch there are a few no hit runs ,but they still fall into the 3/10 rating. Shouldn't have a problem with em. Bit of a longer comp time, seems to be my 4th longest yet

I actually finished Puyo Puyo Champions a few weeks ago, but I forgot to update it. I actually played this game purely because I got Stockholm syndrome from playing it in both Yakuza 6 and Judgment..... Yes I apparently couldn't get enough of those minigames and decided that I wanted EVEN MORE ? 

 

So play it I did, is it good, yes, but in small doses, this is quite literally only an ultra rare platinum because of the extreme grind involved... So if you are looking for something to play for the event next year, and you don't mind a little grind, it's definitely pretty relaxing to play whilst talking to someone or listening to some music. 

 

There's some good tips on the game forum about making a few trophies easier so check those out.

For 2022, I only managed to finish three backlog games and three points.  However, I did get position 69!  So I win!
