Attack on Completion 2022 ( And so It Begins)

For those that don't recognize me, I am Spacey_Dweeb, I just changed my name on a whim one day. Now it's time to report in for the week. This week was busy with work projects. I am salaried and usually that works to my advantage as I duck out the door at 11AM on a Friday because I'm all caught up. But the past couple of months, I've been involved with a big initiative with no new resources beyond myself. So, I've been banking a lot of extra hours, I was supposed to be working on badges for a couple of events that are wrapping up this week, but got a lot on my plate so needed my free time to destress and play games myself.

 

I'm a manager for a big ecommerce company, but I work inside of an underfunded department. I basically do all of our reporting, write SQL for ad-hoc data needs, plan events, run meetings, speak as an SME on many projects, etc. That's on top of running my own team and having strong influence on two other small teams within our same dept. They basically escalate issues to my team, so their problems are kind of my problems. Now, I am learning Python for work too. I already automated something I spent about 90 minutes a day doing before, so that is cool. I'm also studying for some certification tests to formalize my tech credentials. Almost everything I know tech-wise was either self-taught or learned on the job so this is just kind of making it official. So if I do decide to move on one day, I have some bullet points on the ol' CV. I'm an old man and still don't know what I want to do with my life haha. I also am a registered EMT, have a bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, and am a few credits shy of an associate's degree in Visual Art & Design. So my skillsets and knowledge areas are pretty diverse. Anyway, on to the games!

• Wintermoor Tactics Club - This is a cool, little strategy RPG. I wrote a guide while I was playing it, which will be published soon. So you keep an eye out for that. You basically are a student at a boarding school and solve all your problems by playing a tabletop RPG game. The main plot is pretty stupid, but there's a lot of nice stuff just under the surface. I'd recommend it if you like turn-based RPGs or are a fan of D&D. It's not voice acted beyond like grunts and things like that when you get attacked. If you're curious about it. It's digital only. The game is on the easy side and will take about 20 hours.
• Deep Rock Galactic - I've been interested in this for quite a while. I listen to some podcasts about games frequently and hosts I like have been saying its a must play indie since it was in early access. I was excited when it finally was announced it was coming to Playstation. Unfortunately, my experience has been glitchy. It caused my PS5 to crash several times. A couple even required me to unplug/replug it in to get the PS5 to respond again. My external USB drive I was storing PS4 games still won't work from the second crash. I'm going to have to reformat it and download all that crap again. Anyway, uninstalled for now. I'll be back in a few months when it's patched up a bit. 
• Fall Guys - Nothing special here. It looked like fun to me and I was tired of avoiding it because of stupid trophies. I figure I can earn most trophies and leave it unfinished. I really shouldn't be stressing about 100%s. It's just my organizational compulsions that like to see every little thing checked off. Anyway, the romance for this game is gone, but I'm still having fun with it, but only play in small spurts. I usually play a few rounds to knock out the daily challenges and move on.
• Scarlet Nexus - I dabbled with this but probably only played an hour or two of it this week. I let Wintermoor Tactics Club distract me. This will be focused on more this upcoming week.

I should probably report in on my progress since the year rolled over. As I mentioned a few pages back I decided at the end of December I was going to pop a trophy or two in a dozen or so games I have been meaning to get to and this would force me to play them this year ti recover the completion loss. Because of this my completion tanked by about 7%. I started with a few of the quicker to finish games and have gained some of it back already.

 

The Wolf Among Us

Been meaning to play this title for awhile and even though it is not a new game to me (I played it on another account) it is still just as good now as it was the first time I played it. Something about taking Fables and building a whole new dystopian world around them creates magic and lets us see the characters in a whole new light. I still think that Tales from the Borderlands is my favourite Telltales games but this one is not far behind.

 

Little Nightmares II

Finished up Little Nightmares and man what a game. Not only did it live up to the hype I had built up for it in my head. The level design (atmosphere the game created) was extremely well done and at times even bordering on making me nervous and anxious. The hospital level in particular is truly the stuff of my personal nightmares... I will definitely be replaying this at some point, likely around Halloween as its that good.

 

Tohu

Not much to say about this game other than it is a point and click adventure that I impulse bought one day so I figured I should play through it at least. It was decent as far as point and click games go. I do have a soft spot for them though as I grew up playing a lot of these.

 

Sniper Elite 3

I was hoping to finish this up by the end of last year but I just couldn't get motivated to finish that last dlc off. I did however spend the time to get it done last week so it is now complete. Really had a lot of fun with this game and am looking forward to SE5 which is supposed to drop towards the end of 2022.

 

Ghost Giant VR

Pulled out the VR unit for the first time in many months just to play this game. I had randomly came across this game at the library the other week and then it came up the very next day in a conversation with @DrBloodmoney so I felt like the universe was telling me to give it a try. I had forgotten how cool VR games could but was immediately reminded as soon as I was immersed in the game world. It had some really neat puzzles and collectibles that needed to be found while doing tasks to further the story. I think it took me just over 4hrs to complete which included a blind first playthrough so IMO the game is the perfect length for a single session. It was an interesting concept and made for an enjoyable evening even if I was stressing about the move controllers dying for the last hour.

Monday Tuesday Update: Been busy, but I wanted to report  3 more points for the monthly challenges:

 

1) Complete a game for another event: The Solitaire Conspiracy. I enjoyed the game as it has some chill elements, but also felt good to get the time/speed related trophy. Sounds like some may have had it easier, but I feel like others when I was approaching the final wave for the trophy, thinking "can I do it?". 

 

2) Complete a story mode from a game that you have not played in a year or more: Beyond Eyes. It had been almost two years since I last played this game. So yeah, it was due to be finished. I renewed my interest after learning it was being delisted from the store, and wanted to finish it while I could. Even though it is also a non-platinum, I felt it fit this category better.

 

3) Snag 100 trophies: Went from 8,152 trophies at the start of this year to 8,276 trophies ATM. 

 

I should have 5 points total then. Completion went from 72.56% to 73.03%. Finished 4 Plats so far. Hoping to knock out some PS3 games from the backlog/shelf. Goals are to get longer games like Dark Cloud 2 done, creep that percentage up, and just have fun while doing it. So, back at it...

So I've been having a think about the best way to approach this challenge. I kind of signed up on a whim as opposed to any strong or planned desire to tackle my backlog. 

 

Currently I'm playing Deep Rock Galactic, AC Unity, My Friend Pedro and Control. 

 

DRG is probably not going to be done this year. So chipping away at it is fine but ultimately I don't want to pour too much into it. 

AC Unity is nearly done but I've realised that completed games does not equal platinum trophies. AC Unity has DLC (Dead Kings) so I would need to do that too and I'm frankly a bit saturated with it. 

My Friend Pedro is nearly done but god damn I'm not the best at it and those S Ranks are a pain. 

I've only just started Control and it is enjoyable but it's early on. 

 

So with all that in kind, what's my strategy going forward? Last year I was very much working on my ranking - the aim of the game was to break into the top 30K of players in the UK and I did that but that kind of meant trophies from any source, including cheap and easy ones. 

 

If my understanding of the system is right, starting say, Gone Home right now wouldn't actually help my percentage that much as say, playing something already in my backlog because I'd be introducing another game to the overall percentage. 

 

So instead, I need a system that focuses on trophies that are achievable that are currently on my list. My first thought was Uncharted 4 but that apparently has DLC and that looks bloody crazy. 

 

I've got Spyro 2 and 3 today, both of which are on my list, I have no trophies for yet and would be straightforward playthroughs.

 

Finally, I need to tackle the PS3 games and I'll start with the oldest one on my profile to net some Event points - Ratchet and Clank. 

 

I'll probably get the plat for AC Unity first, purely because the trophies will help the percentages and I can always come back to Dead Kings in a few months time.

Currently working myself through Mad Max.

Started this game in 2020 and was lucky enough to get the scrap crew challenges done before the server shutdown.

Made all strongholds accessible, build the scrap crew projects in all of them and achieved my goal.

 

Now I try to complete this game.

I do not hate open world games, but the world in this game is so empty.

Also this game has no good music to make this lousy trip even comfortable, so I love the music streaming options through the console itself while playing.

 

Just hoping that "Reaper of the Harvest" will not bug out, but looks good so far.

/edit Currently 7 scavenging locations left on the whole map, Reaper of the Harvest is showing 184/191 and Statistics shows 220 Scavenging Locations completed.
==> Since 184 + 36 = 220 everything should be fine with the challenge, Lucky me

My Friend Pedro is nearly done but god damn I'm not the best at it and those S Ranks are a pain. 

I've only just started Control and it is enjoyable but it's early on. 

 

So with all that in kind, what's my strategy going forward? Last year I was very much working on my ranking - the aim of the game was to break into the top 30K of players in the UK and I did that but that kind of meant trophies from any source, including cheap and easy ones. 

 

If my understanding of the system is right, starting say, Gone Home right now wouldn't actually help my percentage that much as say, playing something already in my backlog because I'd be introducing another game to the overall percentage. 

 

So instead, I need a system that focuses on trophies that are achievable that are currently on my list. My first thought was Uncharted 4 but that apparently has DLC and that looks bloody crazy. 

 

I've got Spyro 2 and 3 today, both of which are on my list, I have no trophies for yet and would be straightforward playthroughs.

 

Finally, I need to tackle the PS3 games and I'll start with the oldest one on my profile to net some Event points - Ratchet and Clank. 

 

I'll probably get the plat for AC Unity first, purely because the trophies will help the percentages and I can always come back to Dead Kings in a few months time.

I find myself in a similar situation, joined up on whim without really checking my backlog. I  was looking through it this week and unfortunately there are a ton of games I can't do anything with. Most of my backlog is on my PS3 but I don't own many of them and on top of that my PS3 no longer reads discs. 

 

Looking at the math, to reach 90%  I'll need 250 or so trophies from my backlog. Looking at said backlog, only 150-170 seem feasible at this time sadly. Looks like 88% might be the zenith I can reach for the time being. ? Looks like most of my points will probably be from monthly challenges. (Need to brainstorm some more for Kingofbattle8174 to add ?.)

 

If you're tired of AC Unity, maybe burn through Spyro 2 and 3 then circle back to finish it. The Dead Kings DLC isn't too long but it does add another stupid coop map to complete so the longer you wait the deader it will be.

 

Uncharted 4 should give you a nice boost, it does have 10 DLC trophies. 9 are pretty easy but the last is what breaks most people. You have to 3 star all maps on the hardest difficulty.  Personally, I never bothered with it but I might go for the easiest trophies this year for this challenge. 

 

Ratchet and Clank should be a quick clean up, I mopped up A Crack in Time last year and it was quick and easy.

Ok so two weeks in and my first update!

 

I'm currently up .7%, after busting out the majority of the trophies in Bleed.  However, given what a pain in the ass that game is, I'm also working on Tales of Arise.  I did add a new game with Legend of Mana but I'm holding off on finishing that until closer to April, so I didn't do myself any favors.  Still, up .7 isn't too bad given I just need to go up 5%.  I'll update again towards the end of the month!

Yeah so PS3, I've got a bunch of stuff I'll never finish - ModNation Racers, Fifa games, Resistance games etc. I got a PS3 a year before the Ps4 came out and only started trophy hunting about 2 years ago so there's tons I can't do a great deal with too. That being said, I could get the games again and do all the single player stuff go at least up the percentage to the highest possible degree. 

 

I'm pretty close to a Unity finish but I think I'll certainly give it a a break after the main game. The Co-op stuff I've read I can mostly do solo bar one or two trophies like reviving a team mate and synchronised kills. 

 

Uncharted 4 would be good to get a trophy boost for as I didn't target any last time. So at least half of them are still needing attention. Might be something I look at as time goes on. 

 

Ratchet and Clank is an easy one as you say and I'm about 75-80% the way through the platinum for Dead Space and there's no DLC for that either

Use this guide to get 1.0 unpatched PSN download versions of games: 

==> Is the same like using a disc version of a game and never patching it.

 

But if using an unpatched version of the game helps getting the 2 challenges which can no longer completed because of the server shutdown I do not know.

Watch Dogs: Legion 83% -> 85% -> 97%

 

Havn't really been in the mood for gaming this week tbh, managed to get all the Bloodline trophies done for Watch Dogs Legion, but havn't gotten around to starting Resistance mode as yet.

 I had a ton of unfinished PS3 games too. So I actually bought a PS# again this year, they are pretty cheap. And most of the games I either had 'bought' as Plus or are in the Now subscription or if that fails I buy them for a couple of Euro's . It is surprising how many people are still playing PS3 games.... As for FIFA; I am in the same boat as you but I am not trying to get those done anymore.

I even do not recommend this game (Mad Max) in any form.
Story is okay, but the grind for the collectibles is horrible and even the hunt for the scraps can bug out.

Guess I am Lucky: Reaper of The Harvest challenge completed with 191/191 and the corresponding trophy Looked Everywhere popped.
Ground Combat challenges are completed.
Working on Car Combat and Wasteland challenges now.
