Tell Me a Joke dolls?

I just started playing this game after not playing it for years (I used to play it on the PS3 when it first came out) ... I don't remember these little guys hidden around that have little wooden masks on them. 

 

When you approach them, you get a prompt that says "Tell Me a Joke"

 

Is there any hidden reason to these? Or are these just a fun little addition with no meaning at all?

Eh fellow Ontario Northener playing this game now & ran into one of these & all you get is mumbo jumbo responce too bad there wasn't an actual joke. What a great game except for the load times sort of disappointed that I never played it earlier on ps3.Bob & Doug says Hi stay warm.??
