Persona 5 Strikers, Deep Rock Galactic, and Dirt 5 are January's PS+ games

Deep Rock Galactic is launching as a PS+ game, and it's been hailed as one of the best multiplayer games in recent years. It's a co-op FPS where you're exploring and completing tasks in procedurally generated caves. It's been compared favorably to Left 4 Dead.

 

Persona 5 Strikers is the musou (Dynasty Warriors like) spin-off/sequel to Persona 5, taking place after the events of that game. It's one of the better received musou games.

 

Dirt 5 is a racing game by Codemasters that was well received by critics, but its reception among other fans is more mixed.

 

From a trophy hunting perspective.

 

Deep Rock Galactic isn't out yet on PlayStation consoles, but if the trophy list is similar to the game's Steam/Xbox achievements, it might be a tough platinum as there some achievements that would fall into the ultra rare category. Someone more familiar with the game will have to fill you in, but things like earning a gold promotion for all Dwarves (classes), and completing 100 solo missions are going to be grindy. There are also some achievements that are a combination of planning, luck, and skill, such as being the last dwarf standing, with no primary or secondary ammo left, just when a Dreadnought spawns. Then there's an achievement that requires you to complete five weekly tasks with only one available per week, so the platinum will take at least 5 weeks. All in all, this probably going to be a tough and lengthy platinum if the list is the same as as it is on Xbox and Steam.

 

Persona 5 Strikers' PSNProfiles guide by BeforeJam, LuckySIime and ObsiEez gives the game a difficulty rating of 4/10, requiring only one playthrough that will take about 50 hours. PowerPyx's guide also gives it a difficulty rating of 4/10. There's only one trophy listed as missable and it's also been reported to be buggy. Nothing too challenging, just grindy. 

 

Dirt 5's PSNProfiles guide by OverlordOfRacing has the game at a difficulty rating of 3/10, with the platinum taking 25 hours. Two trophies require an online connection, but neither are difficult or require you to play with anyone else. There was a grindy trophy for driving 1,000 miles that was buggy at launch but it has since been patched. The PlayStationTrophies.org guide gives it a difficulty rating of 4/10, with the game taking 150 hour to platinum, but that was before the requirements for the grindy trophy was reduced from driving 10,000 miles to a 1,000 miles. There are 4 DLC packs you'll have to buy if you want to 100% the game.

aw, normally I am pretty lucky with, not buying a ps+ game prior. but p5S breaks that trend :/

Deep Rock Galactic is a phenomenal game, in my opinion. I'm less interested in it being on PS+ as much as I am in the fact that this is confirmation for it getting a console release.

Already got DiRT 5 for PS4 thanks to that infamous glitch a couple of months ago, but i'm gonna get it anyway since it includes the PS5 version.

Had a moment of thinking dirt 5 was alreayd of plus, then realised that it was just glitched to be free instead lol. Will be good to have the combined 4+5 version as the one from the glitch doesn't seem to have the dlc linked to it properly on the store.

They are very smart in terms of Marketing : a multiplayer game that would be dead empty without this gift, a great sequel but implying you better buying P5 or P5R if you wanna enjoy the story of P5S, and a racing game but with 4 DLCs to sell if you really want the 100%.

Nothing interesting for me but the Persona 5 franchise on its own is worth the yearly subscription for those who haven't started it yet.

Had planned on grabbing Deep Rock on a $10-less sale down the road so I’m glad I don’t have to buy it now. Was happy when it was announced for PlayStation finally. I’m not sure it would have sold all that great as it’s been out awhile and they run the risk of someone owning it on another platform. I’ve heard good things about it though!

 

The other two are meh for me. I’ll try persona but not sure I’ll bother with Dirt as I didn’t care for the previous one I played.
