ziggypossum
Microsoft is acquiring Activision, the troubled publisher of Call of Duty, World of Warcraft, and Diablo The deal will value Activision at $68.7 billion, far in excess of the $26 billion Microsoft paid to acquire LinkedIn in 2016. It’s Microsoft’s biggest push into gaming, and the company says it will be the “third-largest gaming company by revenue, behind Tencent and Sony” once the deal closes. Microsoft plans to add many of Activision’s games to Xbox Game Pass once the deal closes. With the acquisition of Activision, Microsoft will soon publish franchises like Warcraft, Diablo, Overwatch, Call of Duty and Candy Crush. “Upon close, we will offer as many Activision Blizzard games as we can within Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass, both new titles and games from Activision Blizzard’s incredible catalog,” says Xbox chief Phil Spencer. Xbox Game Pass now has 25 million subscribers, as Microsoft continues to acquire studios to boost the subscription service. Microsoft’s deal comes after months of sexual harassment claims against Activision Blizzard. Last July, the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing (DFEH) sued Activision Blizzard for promoting a culture of “constant sexual harassment.” More employees have come forward with more allegations of sexual misconduct ever since, and the company reached an $18 million settlement with the US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission in September. That settlement is being appealed, and reports indicate that nearly 40 Activision Blizzard employees have reportedly “exited” the company since last July. Microsoft doesn’t detail exactly how it will approach solving these issues, and the company says Bobby Kotick will continue to serve as CEO of Activision Blizzard. “As a company, Microsoft is committed to our journey for inclusion in every aspect of gaming, among both employees and players,” says Xbox chief Phil Spencer. “We deeply value individual studio cultures. We also believe that creative success and autonomy go hand-in-hand with treating every person with dignity and respect. We hold all teams, and all leaders, to this commitment. We’re looking forward to extending our culture of proactive inclusion to the great teams across Activision Blizzard.” Edited January 18, 2022 by ziggypossum

Popular Post PooPooBlast
Holy guacamole that's a boatload of cash. It got me thinking though that I probably won't miss out much if any if activision games were to become Xbox exclusive. - COD? Don't care. Stopped playing since the modern warfare trilogy ended - Overwatch? I don't play MP games anymore - Diablo? I can see fans being upset but this isn't my genre so again, don't really care. - Crash bandicoot? Same as above However, with all that said, it makes me wonder what's the next big company Microsoft will buy given that they've clearly demonstrated they have money to burn...

Pretty sad that microsoft has to buy some of the largest 3rd party publishers to get exclusives, rather than cultivating them in-house. Sailar91
Wow that’s incredible, but I think it’s not a good thing for all players using only a console made by Sony or Nintendo

POEman553
Here's something I'm wondering if it will happen: What will become of PlayStation servers for Activision Blizzard games? Will Microsoft/Activision Blizzard shut those down to be a 'fuck you' move to PlayStation owners (trophy hunters like us)?
Popular Post arcanehornet_
Nice, can’t wait for Microsoft to have a stranglehold on even more franchises, after ripping Elder Scrolls and Fallout away from PlayStation users. You
They're perhaps trying to compete with Tencent, who seem to be pretty much buying every game studio in the East at the moment (and the West too) Microsoft up to their old tricks of just buying up the competition.

Popular Post I-CatHasTrophy-I
I am laughing so hard right now. Back in the days when this trash of a company bought Blizzard Entertainment, every Blizzard game went straight downwards within no time. I always said, that there is no company as bad as Activision in the whole gaming industry. And this is just the cherry on the top. Selling the company after this huge scandal, just to get their dirt washed off without moving a little finger. This was just a huge waste Microsoft. You'll fully regret that.

Microsoft would be dumb to not have Diablo multiplatform. As majority of its player base prefer co op. Popular Post dieselmanchild
Sweet lord Jesus that is a lot of money. Microsoft has been getting really aggressive with their expansion and acquisition of these big name franchises. Where Sony has been gradually cultivating their development talent from within and building a very impressive catalogue of major exclusives over time from the ground up, Microsoft is just straight up buying their way in. It’s kinda sad.
