One requires you to beat a friend's recommendation, which would need an online leaderboard or something similar. The other one is for reading a news article, which would be something posted by the devs and updated using an online server. I haven't played the game myself, so someone would need to confirm this. Looks like this games trophy/achievement list was bungled pretty bad when it comes to online/offline tags. The whole game is a wreck without online.
