Wow. This is not a good remaster.

Let me start with this- I love first life is strange. I was excited to replay these two games. 

 

I am nearing the end of the first chapter and it's not good. Speaking of the quality of the remaster itself, not the game. The textures were supposed to be better, the devs told about improved motion captured facial animations, etc. The only thing that I legitimately think is better is lighting. 

Issues I have encountered so far: 

 

Models disappearing and popping in.- When Max is walking from the dorms to the parking lot in the first ep there are few camera cuts to make it more cinematic, you can see her model popping in and out of existence for split second before camera changes

 

Edges of models are often flickering, giving the same effect like old ps2 games. 

 

The mo-capped facial animations? Sure they are a bit better in some places, but after I saw the animations in True Colors (they were genuinely amazing) I hoped for much more

 

Texture/high res models popping in when the scene loads in. No need to say more, example:

 

Stuff like this car looking like it was shimmering gold glitter:

 

 

I am playing on PS5, is this an issue with backwards compatibility, or does it have the same issues on PS4. 

 

If I was playing those games for the first time I would probably look over those issues, but I got the remasters for the sake of well remastered graphics. Anyone else experiencing these issues? Or is it just me? (To be honest I am known amongst my friend for having an aura to break even the most stable games ever)

I haven't experienced any sort of this what you've experienced, I think for every console its different or it can be something that is easily fixable if you notify the developers, personally I don't think ranting helps here since you won't find your answer here. I bought it for the sake of relieving the game and story.

Yeah I’m having a lot of darkness and light change in scenes, and also code on screen when I enter dialogue or interact with something. Pretty poor quality remaster, but I’m enjoying it regardless. I love the franchise so I have alot of patience for it

I am having the same issues, not so frequently but I had some. Im also playing from PS5 so I can't confirm wether it is an issue with the backwards compatibility. 

Not an important issue but I also had notifications in the top left not dissappearing, kinda annoying.

I mean, I bought it to replay the story as well obviously, but you could do it with previous version wouldn't you? I bought it to replay, experience the story and get trophies again, but the "remaster" part was what justified the cost for me, since I already have previous versions. The graphics upgrade was the sole marketing point with this game 🤷‍♀️ I don't see how pointing out the problems is "ranting"?

 

I still love the game and I will replay it and platinum it, but if I knew what quality was the remaster I would've waited few months for sale.

It seemed like you were ranting on here trying to find for answers, I can be wrong though because everyone can have their opinion, but like i said this is best if you notify the developers, I mean they even posted on Twitter about if you experience anything unusual.

Let's all address the fact you make a remaster and not make a PS5 version?!?! I pre-order the PS5 Ultimate edition true colors to get a PS4 version of a remaster. They said PS4 and PS5 not PS4/PS5

This type of post is actually really good for people that want to buy a game but need a more honest opinion about the game's technical issues.

If anyone wants to buy it now, I'd suggest waiting for some patches. It's by no means unplayable, you can enjoy the game just fine, it's all very small things but damn they add up

It’s absurd but if I had to guess it’s because companies know they have a fan base they can squeeze more money out of. Koei Tecmo is like that with the Warriors games but instead, they just copy and paste knowing fans will still gobble up the newest installment. I have been guilty in that department.

It's fascinating to me that these publishers & developers can't even do a same-console remaster correctly.

 

In the days before patches, if your game released broken, you were screwed! Unbroken releases were once a thing, which means it's entirely doable nowadays. Even more fascinating is the collection of consumers that line up to defend shit like this.

It's incredible that Rockstar remastered a PS2 game for PS4 and somehow made it worse.

So I got some crashes and other bugs while playing this. No subtitles other than program code for subtitle input, crashes in episode 5 that had me suddenly having to do the locker, gather bottles 3 times, and some rather creepy camera angles. My advise is to wait for a patch!
