Do you report people who send "hate messages" in online games?

Block... done... enough said, pathetic people will always be pathetic, letting them rile you up and responding to them just makes you as bad as them really, and all your doing is fuelling them, giving them an excuse to carry on doing it, bc your response is exactly what they want lol just block em lol

I remember back in the days of ps3 when it was every open lobby, was just the culture, and it was more of an effort to manually mute them as it was to just say something back, but at some point you need to kinda grow up n just ignore it, and the added fact that everyone is extremely sensitive now.

my point, why waste your time at all?
So many times playing BF5 or D2 or basically anything online these days I’ve wanted to message some noob who’s topping lobbies using some sort of cheat or enhancement, like dying to a hand cannon or scout rifle in the crucible that fired an entire clip faster than a sub machine gun.

but I’m old school, I remember when online gaming was fair for everyone, and it all came down to your individual skill because everyone had the same thing you were holding, not some noob that’s binding 4 to 5 inputs with a press of a single button, like those sprint/slide/shotgun noobs, or rapid fire noobs emptying bolt action clips in half a second, it completely destroys the balancing of the game, it’s cheating, but I don’t waste my time because that’s gaming now, everyone’s doing it, because everyone wants to be on a level playing field instead of getting owned while you n your stuck hitting respawn every 5 seconds with your DualShock, but I get over it, it’s a game, there’s enough hate going around, gaming is supposed to be chill so.

I don't really play online games any more, and the few times I do, it's strictly with people I know, and randos get muted. So I don't really ever get "hate messages".

But I did used to get a few back in the day. If they weren't particularly "hateful" and just the general shit talk like calling me a noob, I'd just ignore and block 'em. If it was something along the lines of telling me to kill myself or making some kind of threat (that wasn't an obvious tongue-in-cheek one), then yeah, I reported that shit. I'm fairly thick skinned and I don't really care what strangers that I'm never going to interact with on a serious or daily basis have to say to me, but there's vulnerable people and kids out there that WILL take that stuff personally.

And as dramatic as it may sound, telling someone to off themselves may be just enough to break the camel's back for some people. You have no idea what the person on the other side of the screen life's is like, and words that won't faze someone may emotionally scar another. I'm sure the whole "words will never hurt me" crowd will claim otherwise, but I personally find it very hard to believe that there's anyone out there that's gone through their entire life without having something said to them that left a negative impact to some extent.

Being a half decent human being costs very little, but being an asshole can literally cost a life.

No. The world doesn't need pussies who are easily offended. We have enough of those.

I played 2000+ hours of CS:GO, and the level of toxicity is through the roof. I can't tell how many russians have wanted to have sex with my mom, or kill me. I just laugh it off. And if people wanna bang my mom, be my guest, as long as she is willing ;)

So no, i let the weak sissys of the world report people. I take it like a man, in calm, peace, and laugh it off.

Lol, no.

What’s the point? Most of these people (myself included) will have alternate accounts so they’ll still be playing those exact same games.

I personally think reporting people for hate mail is pathetic and sad. It speaks more for the person reporting than the one they’re reporting.

I grew up throughout the 2000’s as a teenager, so to me hate-mail, vitriol and gross language and insults are just par for the course when gaming online and don’t phase me at all, make me laugh and I’ll either respond with something snarky but ‘snowflake safe’, or ignore them.

But sadly, we live in the generation of snowflakes and wokeness where everyone bitches, whines and cries about the smallest things and claims it as a ‘micro-aggression’ and honestly it’s ruined a lot of the joy of online gaming now.

Its rare you hear anybody on a mic or chatting in games, as they’ll stick to a party for their fun as the risk of being needlessly banned and reported is way too high now

Due to my bad performance in the last of us's factions mode, I've been receiving numerous hate messages (1f639.png) that are very funny in my opinion. I'd like to reply and join in the fun like old times, but I won't risk my account as Sony is a pussy now. on steam you can offend at will and there is no risk of banning or restriction. so i was thinking i could report it and get some account suspension or even permaban, but i'm not a resentful one, i don't see any reason to end a person's account because of an unassuming online swearing. What about you, report people for "toxic behavior"?

Yeah, I had also lots of shitty comments when I was active in Factions. Never reported any, because I mainly just laughed off to these clearly insane people.

No.  If someone does send something nasty, I'll just respond with "WHO IS THIS" and see where it goes.

I think the only time I've reported people was for obviously using a lagswitch in NHL (ie. starting a download or torrents on their end creating convenient lag spikes whenever I'm about to do something).  Just learn to play the fucking game you fucks.

I find there’s not always a reason to report or respond back. Or even block straight away, it’s definitely situational.

I’ve received a few messages saying “you suck get off the game” and I’ve responded with “I know” and a sad face and they usually reply back saying “I’ll help you get better” which is nice actually ?

Very rarely will I receive true hate messages and I might respond with a witty remark and see what happens, but mostly I block people who harass me as I tire of idiots. If I ever end up reporting someone then it must’ve been quite bad. It’s just quicker to block and move on.

Occasionally yes, but in most cases, I would just mock them with film quotes like this, followed by a swift block. Later, I realized that I could restrict messages to friends only in my privacy settings, so it hasn't been an issue since. I highly recommend doing this; so peaceful!

I used to get those kind of messages when I played Uncharted 4 MP and when I invaded on DS3. I never responded, they just made me laugh.

I had to disable messages from strangers due to bots sending porn a couple years ago (among other stuff). I still have them disabled because I grew cautious of random messages.

I miss the hate mail.

No. I don't block people either. To me, if you start shit and I block you...you win. It means you got under my skin enough that I had to resort to silencing you. Sure I get some basic peace of mind, but it just means whatever you set out to do, you succeeded at. Trolls should never win...and reporting them isn't really solving the problem either. Staying calm and showing them that it never mattered to begin with is the ultimate slight to their ego.

I don't really play multiplayer games that often anymore but when I did, no never reported anyone. My technique was just talking a bunch of shit back until one of us gives up, and even then I'd send some shit back randomly like a week later because fuck'um lol...
