I am certain that bricked electronics need more than just factory resets to work again if they ever do work again.

Yeah I always thought the term "bricked" means basically completely broken. Hence the electronic device is only worth being a "brick"?

As for the shutting off, I had that issue as well. My boyfriend and I use the same PS5, and few times when I finish playing Horizon, close the game, log out and he logs in and tries to launch the game it makes the console crash completely and it needs to do that little data recovery thing. This has only happened with Horizon, never happened before with any other game ?. For now we try to reboot a console between changing users and it seemed to help for now. Had 3 crashes during the weekend. Two account changes today and it didn't crash

if your ps5 randomly shuts down, like you're playing and without warning it turns all the way off. it's because the ventilation holes on the PSU are blocked. there's 2 ways to fix it.

hard way involves taking it apart, voiding warranty in the process and cleaning it out. or you can get a electric air duster in the 500w range, stick the nozzle up your ps5's asshole and give it several long deep squirts. xD

Sony have moved to releasing buggy games now, so if your gunna waste cash on first party tripe on release day your gunna get all manner of things go wrong. i'll wait a few years before i play it, see what the dlc is and whether it's fixed or not.

Well, that's just not factually true now, is it? Sony's first party games are probably the most polished games in the industry. The game isn't technically perfect (what game is?), but anything I've experienced with the game has been extremely minor in nature. The game has been pretty much near flawless otherwise.

But aren't you the same person who said Sony release overpriced games that take the shortest amount of time and smallest amount of money to make? So yeah, I'm not surprised. Keep pushing your agenda!

Sony Boss Himself ANNOUNCED that future games would be shorter, faster.. and lo and behold more expensive. why is it fanboys are so pathetic? why is it any criticism that a 150 billion dollar company receives, there's always some little crybaby that HAS to take it personally and sulk like someone just shot your dog.

the last few major sony release gets leaked early or released with a ton of swirling controvesy and even if it's all bullshit frabrication, it still shows there's a huge chunk of sony's userbase that are pissed at them for whatever reason and they've taken a hit in sales as a result of this. yes, their numbers are good.. but they could of been better and they know it, makes me wonder how well it would have gone had there been no pandemic.

Try a fresh install.

these never work. It's generally an issue with the game software. Hence updates.

Speaking of which there was a patch to address this and various issues released today.

TLDR. But if Sony made every game $100-$120 US, ill still pay. Money isn't an issue for me. I do find it hilarious how bent out of shape people get over a $10 increase on PS5 games. Now they’re all "save $10, buy the PS4 version". $10 is nothing.

Mate, read my reply again, and then read yours. Now tell me who the one crying is. As for your other tangents, I'm not sure where to even begin as it has nothing to do with anything. I also know good, valid criticism when I see it, and this ain't it.

thats the thing here in the uk,  it is 100 dollars for a standard edition. i've got cash too i'm just not a fan of getting bent over, after they go on a spiel about how much easier it is for devs to make games for the ps5, or how easy it is to unlock the ps5 potential for a game on ps4.

then ratchet comes out and people are clipping through walls all over on release, and it's 70 gbp / 100 usd lol..

fair enough, I'm indeed salty about the whole experience so far.

they say we need to pay em more for psplus, fair enough it's only a marginal increase, but then several months later they remove features from psplus that are useful, (communities the ability to back up individual save files.)

dualsense starts drifting like crazy, i go out buy another plug it in, drifts like crazy...

my ps5 kept constantly kicking me off the internet for a second for like 6 months throwing up a notification that my ethernet cable was removed, when it wasn;t, then the net comes straight back, and it boots me from online games and the network, caused trophies to glitch out if they popped during the time it happened..

the shake up with leadership, every game releasing with some sort of controvesy or bugs.. and that they're apparently making a ton of GAS model games going forward now too.. all of it together just seems, not good for the future.

The PS5 overheats easily, I've had it with a few games and it's very upsetting when it happens xD.

Some suggestions;

- Make sure it has good ventilation all around, not too close to anything.

- Also take the side covers off and give the insides a good blowing out, no doubt lumps off dust trapped inside.

I've had the exact same issue myself in the past when playing Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart. I actually tried reinstalling the system software form scratch and eventually sent my PS5 off for repair by Sony. They simply cleaned it and said nothing was wrong. When I loaded up Horizon Forbidden West after 20 minutes my PS5 powered off again, I simply took off the side panels and gave it a good clean out and ever since it has been fine.

It is often the vents where the stand connects to the PS5 that get blocked with dust, and that where the mains power connects making it a relatively hot point on the PS5. Even when dusty most PS4 games will run fine as they hardly push the PS5, but as soon as something graphically challenging is played it really heats up the PS5 and that is when the power outage will happen.

If your PS5 wont turn back on after losing power, if you disconnect the mains and then reconnect hold the power button down until you hear two beeps which will load it in safe mode, a quick system database rebuild will load the console up like normal.

still, 100usd isnt much to me. pocket change really. I also live in Canada sooo its closer to 130ish.

I had 0 issues with Ratchet at launch, only game ive really had issues at launch were Dying Light 2s Deathloop,  and Horizon 2 frame drop. Thats it.

most sounds like user error. in regards to drift, get the $10 warranty. Sony would still cover you, but you can just go back to the point of purchase and exchange for new within 1 year. I've done it with a launch controller. i have 5 controllers but still using my 2 white ones the most. So. no issues.

kicked off Internet seems more like a you problem. Bad connection,  shitty internet in general, try new cables. Perhaps your ethernet is shotty. Try wifi.

I'm just here to say that I be don't believe the game is the problem as much as the console itself is, when it comes to PS5 games. I've noticed it since the first month with miles morales hard crashing my PS5 sometimes, and then there's the rest mode thing where it's a 50/50 whether it'll crash entering rest mode, but ONLY when a PS5 game is being suspended.

I'll admit it's been scary, and I really regret not getting an extended warranty with it when I pre-ordered from Amazon (I was honestly just happy to get the order in), but the shortage situation is really unfortunate and I don't think these first batch consoles are the best made ones. I'm looking forward to the next revision, not to spending more money, but I expect a redesign will be more reliable.

The update unfortunately didn't fix the crashing. I've noticed that booting the game for the first time always works, but when I close or suspend it, there's a high chance the console will crash when booting it up again. So to avoid crashing, I'd have to restart my PS5 after every time I close the game. Really annoying.

My PS5 crashes with some games whenever I put it in sleep mode and then wake it up again. Happens in the Life is strange remaster and happens in Horizon. And that is like 100% of the time. Guess some games are having an attitude when woken up. It's pretty annoying tbh. Still enjoying the game very much though.

I'm sorry to hear people having issues with crashing. I haven't had a single crash yet and I've played at least 4 hours a day since launch. The only performance issue I had was a sever framerate drop on Sunday but I just restarted the game and it fixed it. Maybe some of my details might help someone out.

PS5 Digital Horizon game installed
Installed on internal console SSD

No 3rd party M.2 SSD installed
Launch day PS5
USB-C external drive for PS4 games always plugged in
I never use rest mode, close game and shut off console every night

The game has only crashed once on me but ever since it crashed, every 30 minutes or so of playing, the screen will go black for 1-2 seconds at seemingly random moments and then it'll come back on. It's like the game is struggling to load in stuff so it just goes black for a second or two to catch up. I'm also getting severe lag at the start of dialogue choice sequences now and some stuttering during fights, that wasn't happening before either. This is on PS5 btw.

For all the issues Dying Light 2 had, that game at least never crashed on me or had any major performance issues. For a first party title this is quite surprising as usually the first party Sony stuff are the most polished and optimized games, not this time. In general, Horizon 2 is the weakest first party AAA Sony title in a long time and not just because of its performance issues.

Patch 1.06 was just released and there are crash fixes in it. Hopefully that will alleviate your issues. Here are the notes from Guerrilla:

PATCH NOTES

KNOWN ISSUES

We are currently looking into several issues reported by the community. Please note that these issues are not yet fixed in this patch, but our teams are investigating them with high priority.

  • The team continues to investigate several graphical issues reported by players regarding shimmering, sharpening and screen saturation when moving the camera.

  • Some players have reported that the Firegleam icons do not get removed from the map after interacting with them.

  • Some players have reported an issue in side quest ‘Breaking Even’ where they are not able to talk to Porguf when Talanah is in Camp Nowhere, blocking progression of this quest.

  • Some players have reported that the music track “The World on Her Shoulders” keeps repeating during their playthrough. We have a partial fix included in this patch to prevent this issue from happening to players who did not encounter this issue during their playthrough yet. We are still looking into a fix for players who are currently experiencing this issue.

  • Some players have reported not being able to reach 100% in the Game Progression menu, our team is investigating.

FIXES AND IMPROVEMENTS

Main Quests

  • Fixed an issue in main quest ‘Reach for the Stars’ where Varl could become stuck swimming, which resulted in a missing prompt to [Examine the Machine Carcass] at the Glinthawk sighting site, thus blocking further progression.

  • Fixed an issue in main quest ‘Reach for the Stars’ where Varl would visibly teleport after the Focus scanning tutorial.

  • Fixed an issue in main quest ‘Reach for the Stars’ where Aloy could become stuck in a falling animation when she grabbed a collapsing climbing point and used the Pullcaster on a Grapple Point at the same time.

  • Fixed an issue in main quest ‘Reach for the Stars’ where there was a sudden change in sunlight when Aloy was traversing a certain spot inside the shuttle tower.

  • Fixed an issue in main quest ‘Death’s Door’ where reloading from a certain save would cause the Firegleam explosion to replay.

  • Fixed an issue in main quest ‘The Dying Lands’ where Aloy and her companions would get snowed on while inside the cauldron.

  • Fixed an issue in main quest ‘The Broken Sky’ where Kotallo could sometimes become distracted and stray from the task at hand, which could block further progression.

  • Fixed an issue in main quest ‘The Broken Sky’ where Aloy would be placed in an unintended pose when reloading a certain save.

  • Fixed an issue in main quest ‘The Kulrut’ where an objective marker was leading towards a blocked path.

  • Fixed an issue in main quest ‘Seeds of the Past’ where Alva could sometimes not reach the console, blocking progression.

  • Fixed an issue in main quest ‘Seeds of the Past’ where reloading the save after killing the machines outside of test station Elm would spawn Aloy stuck in the floor.

  • Fixed an issue in main quest ‘Singularity’ where reloading a certain save would cause a certain line of dialogue to play again incorrectly.

Side Quests

  • Fixed an issue in side quest ‘The Blood Choke’ where Atekka would not move into position when needed, thus blocking progression.

  • Fixed an issue in side quest ‘The Promontory’ where reloading from a save after the ‘Investigate the bridge’ objective would place the player in Plainsong.

  • Tempered the vigilance of machines in side quest “The Wound in the Sand”, so that they no longer enter a suspicious state immediately upon reloading from a certain save.

  • Fixed an issue in side quest “A Tribe Apart” where reloading a save created after opening the metal flower at Riverwatch would cause the vines to respawn.

World Activities

  • Fixed an infinite black screen that would occur after stashing the Champion’s Spear and then starting any Tutorial or Challenge in Chainscrape Melee Pit, or a fixed loadout challenge in the Arena.

  • Fixed an issue in Cauldron Mu where a platform at the end of the cauldron could stream in late, trapping the player underneath.

  • Fixed an issue in salvage contract The Stillsands: Pristine Bellowback where the incorrect machine corpse was spawned when reloading from save after defeating the machine.

  • Fixed an issue in Machine Strike where the player was no longer able to attack after selecting to repeat the instructions regarding unit combat power.

  • Fixed an issue in Machine Strike where the compass would appear on screen after the player retried a match they lost.

  • Fixed an issue where a wild loading screen could pop up while in the Arena menu, after returning from a challenge.

  • Fixed an issue where scavenger machines would not appear after killing other types of machines in certain habitats.

  • Fixed an issue with dome views where the icons would not display correctly after reloading a save.

  • Fixed an issue in Salvage Contract: The Lost Supplies where the quest could not be turned in under certain circumstances.

  • Fixed an issue with the track "The World on Her Shoulders" repeating if the player used fast-travel after climbing a Signal Tower. Please note that this is not fixed for players who already encountered this issue, we are investigating a separate fix for this.

UI/UX

  • Removed haptic feedback when standing next to a campfire and when fast-traveling if the Vibration Intensity sliders are set to 0.

  • Fixed an issue where a Vista image would appear in front of a Black Box collectible in the menu.

Graphics

  • Fixed multiple instances of objects in the world visibly popping between different levels of detail.

  • Fixed an issue in Photo Mode where parts of Aloy’s outfit and body would become blurry in certain poses.

  • Improved visual differentiation of the attack and move indicators in Machine Strike.

  • Fixed a cosmetic issue with underwater cubemap.

  • Fixed an issue where a blurry artefact was visible around the Heavy Crossbow when using it in combat.

  • Fixed several instances of the camera jittering and behaving in an unintentional way.

  • Several craftable quest items had the incorrect model in the workbench interface, those have now been replaced with the final assets.

  • Fixed an issue with Parallax Mapped Foam by removing variable height scale in favor of a constant value; when original dynamic input value got too high it started separating the parallax layers. To fix the nasty separation of the layers at glancing angles the height scale is set by a bit of fresnel based logic.

  • Fixed several instances of NPCs in settlements not displaying the correct level of detail when playing the PS4 version of the game.

  • Fixed an issue in the Chainscrape tavern where moving the camera in a certain spot would cause sudden changes in lighting.

  • Improved noise reduction on screen space ambient occlusion.

  • Reduced the intensity of the vignette screen effect when activating Valor Surges, and when Aloy was at low health.

Performance and Stability

  • Multiple crash fixes.

  • Fixed multiple assets that would pop in or stream in visibly during cinematics.

  • Fixed several unintentional loading screens/black screens that would trigger in specific points.

Other

  • Aloy will not mention her stash quite as often as before.

  • Multiple localization fixes and text alignment corrections.

  • Multiple visual and audio improvements to cinematics.

  • Fixed an issue where Aloy would freeze in a specific pose when switching weapons during a charged heavy melee attack.

  • Fixed an issue where remapping the controls for Primary Fire to R1 would prevent the player from throwing rocks.

  • The spear impact when using ‘Strike From Above’ was missing a sound effect that has now been added.

  • Fixed an issue where the player would lose control of Aloy if sprinting and sliding into the water at a specific spot in the ruins north of Landfall.

  • Fixed an issue with the camera during the end credits.

  • Fixed several instances of the mount behaving erratically in specific locations while riding on roads.

  • 4 weeks later...

I personally played the game on PS4, no problem, but when I autopoped my platinum save on ps5, it almost crashed, and I had to restart the game and load an earlier save because not all the trophies were pop.

I'm glad I did the ps4 version instead of the ps5, I have friends who did the ps5 version and had quite a few problems

I've put over 100 hours in so far and only had 2 freezes, no crashes though.  The second freeze straightened itself out after a couple minutes, and I have a feeling if I hadn't been so quick to restart the system the first one would've done the same.  I only ever use rest mode to download patches and games and never suspend software.
