7h gameplay no first boss no upgrade

21 posts in this topic

7h of gameplay and I didn't kill first boss. Can handle him alone or with summons (Playing mage, astrologer I think). SO I went exploring map and fighting semi bosses. Having a blast finding new stuff. I found some weapons and amulets and upgrades for flasks and so on but nothing to upgrade me, mage. no weapon for scaling magic no new spells... still can't fight first boss and I don't really want to farm runes in opposition to just exploring.

How are you guys doing. Did you kill first boss? did you find some cool gear upgrades before fighting first boss? Is magic not way to go in Elden rings?

What you all think?

I haven't started yet but based on past souls games and what I've seen from Elden in streams. Magic is overpowered and trivializes a lot of mechanics, you just have to get to the point of making it work.

I have put few points in intelligence but no mayor damage upgrade. If you are right I think I need to find someone to tech me new spells then ;)

I have done nothing but put points into intelligence and mind and I still struggle doing damage on bosses, it might've been nerfed on the 1.02. I'm not sure but oh well.

yeah but like I said I just find dudes that can sell me str and or dex stuff and ahes for melee for now.

I am experienced souls player so my instict was to switch to sword and hack and slash ;)

I'm having fun so I don't want to reroll but now I play hybrid mage/warrior and like I said first boss kicks everybodys ass. amount of signs is insane in front of his gate and like I said those dude I summon don't know how to handle him either. for me his wind up is messing with me a lot, I can't time my dodges properly, I guess I am used to fast hitting bosses...

well for now I will keep exploring east side of map and maybe tomorrow will spend more time on boss...

For magic:

Magic just seems so underpowered in this game. Like something's wrong if Glintstone Pebble is still one of the best options you have despite having unlocked an arsenal of spells. My friend who plays confessor however says that incantations are faring pretty well. Regardless though magic just needs to be buffed, at least the sorceries.

I started with samurai and now, after 38 hours of gameplay I barely started to go with main storyline (I mean, I got past Godrick and now I wonder around Rai Lucaria). I used katana all the time, found another one in Stormveil castle and 2 magical katans yesterday so I'm pumping int now and I guess I'm gonna rock both of them throughout my entire playthrough. Once I get some more int, I might try out magic.

There is a sorcerer trainer in some ruins to the east of the lake with the dragon in it. There is a giant flower in the ruins that you can fight if you want. Nearby is a stairway down into a boss fight. It was one of the easier bosses so far, and after the boss fight you could talk to someone that sold spells. I picked up some scrolls that expand what they sell. However, I was not paying attention to when I got those since my character isnt a mage. Anyway, I hope that helps you find some new spells and get through the first boss.

I was about to go down there after flower boss but there is no waypoint around so I left it for now. Good to know. Would love to find some better weapon/armor so I can start upgrading

23 hours this weekend.  Started two classes to get a feel.  Pure caster and a faith/tank.  I'm going to pick one and run with it becuase i'm getting confused with items i have collected with each one.

Anyway, done the first boss, about level 27.  Just been exploring a lot and getting lost in side bits and not really doing much of the main path.  I'm not at what i would consider the first "real" boss and excited to lose more sleep to this game

you could consider summoning help for the boss fight.

24 hours in, beat one (trophy) boss so far. In love with the game and exploring so much. Haven't had this much fun with a game in forever!

I'm 11 hours into the game, explored most of the stuff in Limgrave, went to check the other areas, already killed Margit and Godric. Now I'm using a +8 Zweihander, no magic, lvl 34 and I one-shot most of the enemies, got no problem with killing the big bears, dark knights on horses or any mini bosses. :D

14 hours into the game so far, playing a  mage for the first time ever in a souslike game and tbh i have zero trouble killing the first bosses so far. I grinded a few hours to level up and i must say magic is totally overpowered in this game. On the other hand, playing a mage is risky. You really should be a good dodger and try to keep a good distance between you and the enemy. I don't know if all of you know but you can get the best staff and best spell more or less pretty much at the beginning. With this combination the damage output ( when correctly levelled ) is beyond insane.

also you can get one of the best talismans very earl,  extrem helpful:

i am not that far into the game but it's so good. Maybe these tips will help you. Cheers, Davy.

I only killed the cat dog boss thing before the first main boss. The npc follower summon helped a ton

LOL actually I was in this area and found the staff but didn't find spell, need to check.
Only thing with that staff is it can't be upgrade, well at least at the start upgrade place. but its scaling way better then +5 starting staff anyway.

So I grabbed that spell. It is good damage and all but situational, it is hard to use in tight spaces + many block it and takes long time to cast. But overall get it. it is good. And as I mentioned before staff is great too but didn't find ways to upgrade yet

you can't upgrade it because it seems to be already maxed out. But by comparing the meteorids staff with others, it still has the best stats ( at least from what i saw so far )

Yeah, the spell isn't good in tight and narrow spaces, but in a boss arena, the damage is devastating. I killed a boss with just 6 hits of this ( Intelligence 52 )
