Should I Be Concerned About The Online Shutting Down?

Someday of course I would love to platinum this game but if the online might shutter or be unplayable soon I was hoping to get those achievements out of the way. Should I worry?

It's a valid concern and it's inevitable. It's simply impossible to do all the online trophies for every game that have online trophies.

If you're concerned about the online shutting or being unplayable, I would go ahead and get the online done now. The shutdown won't happen today, or this year or even in the next five years, but it will happen before we know it. There will come a point in time when Rockstar Games will announce the shutdown for GTA V PS4 too. That's just the way things work sadly.

There's no need to worry.  Honestly, most of the trophies are actually very quick to do, and only a few of them require other players - you can do almost everything by yourself.  Invest in the Collectors Role, buy a satchel, metal detector and shovel ASAP, and that's pretty much all you will need to quickly and easily reach Rank 50.

The only thing to be concerned about is the fact that Rockstar simply don't give a damn about this game, and barely even acknowledge its existence.  They have such a hard-on for GTA V that none of their other games matter to them.

I would personally prioritize it if I were you, not because the longevity of the online services are of any concern any time soon, but more so because it's a great game with a lot excellent content. Even just in regards to the online, I've had hundreds of hours of fun; I know a lot of other people might disagree because of how much grinding there is to do, or the fact that every so often (like currently) there are "content droughts" where limited time battle passes aren't available but that actually makes now the best time to jump in since you can accumulate resources ahead of time and be able to afford the stuff that'll let you get access to the next one for free.

That's a really weird stance to take considering it got 3 years of solid support, for a multiplayer that wasn't that popular to begin with. Most games only get 1 year, 1 1/2 tops. Even most popular ones.

Did it, though?  When was the last time it got a meaningful update?  R* trickled out some new Roles over the years, like Moonshining and Bounty Hunting.  They introduced daily challenges after a while.  They gave us a couple of time-limited Outlaw Passes that are no longer available. They never, EVER respond to public enquiries or suggestions about what else they could do with the game.

GTA V gets a never-ending onslaught of new content - new vehicles, missions, heists, a whole new ISLAND, double or triple RP/$ rewards on select missions, new radio stations... and, of course, it's just about to land on its THIRD console.  This month, by comparison, RDR2 players can collect a new outfit that was designed by some guy on REDDIT, of all places - two years ago!

R* could have introduced so much content to RDR since it launched - train robberies, bank robberies (just create a bank for the map, like they did with the casino in GTA), co-op missions like the first game had, cattle herding, ranch building, horse breeding, and so on.  These are all things that the player base has asked for, and R* has refused to acknowledge a single one of these requests.  As I said, they don't care about this game, because it's not the money-making cash cow that GTA is.

RDR1 and RDR2 Online do not use dedicated servers and they never will, because it costs more money. Instead they both run on peer-to-peer servers. Which means that a player acts as the host, and others connect to their server.

You are right about peer-to-peer. but if out of a sudden, not a single-player sign in keep the peer-to-peer up. Will the service be permanently closed?

I think they're at least one remote machine that brings everything together which should never be closed

Like August? Blood Money and Call To Arms.

Comparing it to GTA is apples and oranges. One of them is one of the most popular multiplayers ever and one of them you can't find a full lobby, even at launch lol.

The fact that Rockstar gave us what they did, for a flop, is amazing to me and pretending like we're owed more might just be one of the most ridiculous example of entitlement I've ever seen lol.

Yes there's a lot more that they could've done, but that could be said about every single game that stops support after a year.

(BTW, I still actively play. I actually have a horse in this race. Whether they keep making content or not has a huge impact on me. But I've chosen to be appreciative of what we have got instead of acting entitled to what we don't)

One of the top 5 most popular games of the last generation? It's online is in no jeopardy of being shut down for a very long time. Hell, many PS3 titles still have online support including the first RDR and GTA IV which are 12 and 14 year old games respectively. RDR2 is not even 4 years old yet. You have nothing to be concerned about, you have copious amounts of time to get the online trophies done and there's no need to rush.

I never stated that I personally thought they owed us more, and I'm certainly not acting "entitled".  I simply pointed out some examples of things that the wider player base has repeatedly asked for, and mentioned that Rockstar has never acknowledged any of them.  I personally have never asked for any of these things.  Don't assume that I'm throwing my toys on the floor because I'm not getting exactly what *I* want.

So do I.  So we both have a proverbial horse in this race.  You're making an erroneous assumption that I don't play RDR.

Wouldn’t think so.. I play it for fun, plenty of free roam missions / mp races / roles / fishing challenges etc still active or fine to do solo (depending on what).

Should be fine. It doesn’t take too long to do, I’d recommend doing a few things daily such as daily challenges to get your gold up to make it easier and buy better weapons / horses etc….
