“Time Played” is completely off

I played 6 hours of Need for Speed Unbound the other night and that has now tracked, albeit with a sizeable delay. Will leave it on overnight and see if there is any change in the morning, it might be working again...

EDIT: left NFS on overnight, got up at about 4 to turn off the PS5 to see if it would update by the morning, surprise surprise it hasn't yet.

I just spoke to PS support and they said they have a "specialist" working on the issue

Thanks for reaching out to them! I haven't done so yet (but should) because this has been a monthly issue that usually got fixed within a few days, but this time it seems to take longer than before. I don't see much chatter about it, just a handful of Reddit posts, so most people probably don't notice or don't care. I'll wait until tomorrow to see if there's a change and then also get in touch with support.

No problem! Yeah, I've spoken to support about it a few times in the past when it happens in an attempt to at least make them aware of it. It's definitely one of those types of issues that I think Sony doesn't prioritize so if more people contact support when it happens then it does at least increase the chances of them fixing it.

I noticed like since a week ago that my counter completely stopped working, kinda. I started playind and plat'd Callisto Protocol and the timer never showed up. After a couple days after I had plat'd the game the timer popped up saying I had spent 3 hours in the game, which, obvisoully, is totally off. Currently playing another game now and, again, the timer hasn't shown up yet. Whats going on?

Still not tracking... I think at this point I'm just going to have to keep track myself in a spreadsheet.

I use PS Timetracker. You just add a bot and then check your page (private, can optionally be made public). I've used it for a few months now and it is reliable. You can see playtime per session, per game, and per month.

I track my totals in a spreadsheet too, plus purchase price and some other stats, across the gaming systems I use.

I'm assuming this only tracks from when you've added the bot onwards? or does it somehow retroactively display playtime for games played before adding the bot?

It only starts tracking when you add the bot, but the site owner offers to import old data that can be requested from Sony. I haven't tried this yet, so no first hand experience with this part, but the process is explained here

Thanks mate I'll have a gander now, if its far more reliable than Sony's own tracking its worth at least try!

I've used it for a few months now and frequently check the sessions. From what I can tell, it's 100% accurate. Sony also obviously has correct stats too (as evident by the annual summary), so requesting old data, then merging it with the PS Timetracker site's stats, would probably result in exactly the kind of data I'd like to have. I'll probably request my old data from Sony in the new year, but I think I will re-write the letter suggested by the site a little. It seems a bit harshly worded.

Oh wow its interesting that you can do that, but I'll probably just take the hours played to date that are displayed on my profile like normal as "fact", and track playtime going forward using the bot. Thanks again @mrmivo!! :)

yea im the worlds fastest plat on the callisto protocol...my psn account shows less than 1hr played on max security.....im a god, didn't you all know this? but yea on a serious note, its always unreliable..it says i did gow rag in 33hrs or something? lol impossible...it was 50 realistically. and the ps5 itself has been off since its launch considering the xbox360 was more feature rich than this bland console....

It's a difficult to even contact PlayStation's customer support. Feels like a fortress made out of canned responses and artificial walls.

@hydruxxo - How did you go about getting in touch with an actual person? Are you in NA or Europe?

I'm in NA. I went to https://www.playstation.com/en-us/support/ then clicked on the Online Assistant tab in the bottom right. You have to go through a few automated questions and enter in your email & PSN name, but then it'll give you an option to be transferred to an actual support agent.
